Countdown to Camp

July 25th, 2009 - 2:26pm by mark_cooper

Jack Williams, Jenn and Chris Simms at Fan Fair. Countdown to camp is right around the corner. Jenn’s a big fan and sent over a great shot of herself and the fellas at Fan Fair at INVESCO Field at Mile High.

This time of the year, the team is adding a few players, getting a few draft picks under contract and releasing a few guys. This is the toughest part of the year for me as we wait to see the opening of camp. Not much is happening, so you haven’t heard from me a lot. The talking heads in the media have been somewhat quiet too.

I was glad to hear Brandon Marshall said he was under contract and would show up at camp. He has a lot on the line, including a possible suspension which is a distraction to the team.  But he’s hopefully coming around and understanding that T.O. has left a lot of money on the table over a career, and today with his attitude.

Thanks for the pictures, as I’ll keep posting them from time to time. I ran across a poll the other day that ranked us about 24th in the league, here at the start of the camp and the 2009 season. What do you guys think? Where do you rank the team before we hit camp?

Curious on your take – you usually have some sound comments.

1st post for the 1st time yesss!!!……But i rank the broncos 1st in the afc west and top 15 in the league

  2. TheRoyalBeast says:

2nd…I guess lol. Thx for the post coop,

Glad Brandon came around as well. Like I always said, not a bad guy just a guy that allows himself to fall into bad situations. I still think he wants a trade, hopefully this season goes well and he understands there no place like Denver. Hopefully he doesnt get punished by the league for the same case twice. Huge The Beast fan.

Can’t wait for training camp and preseason, im itching. Many talk about Orton and simms but I am curious of what Brandstater has to offer when he gets on that field. I am optimistic about this year but i believe it shall either be a train wreck or Brilliance. Hopefully its the latter. I Rank 12 us in the league and second in the AFC west, I think the AFC west will be interesting this year. I may have us as 12 in the league but we have Any Given Sunday on our side.

~Heres Hoping We Shock The NFL
    GO BRONCOS!!!

when I first saw the picture I thought Jen was a dude.

  4. Deify_you says:

I would love to think what the analyst would rank us if we still had Cutler on the team…oh what am I saying we still be at the same rank according to them. I’m going to say number one in the AFC West, top 50 percentile in the league.

  5. Ruga_Rell75 says:

well we just signed alphonso smith to a 4 yr deal

  6. BroncoAussie says:

Doc that ain’t nice. And yes we got smith signed 5 to go.

  7. broncofan96 says:

number 1 in the west and in the league were going all the way

  8. mrbroncofan says:

Clean it up Doc and I do feel that the Broncos can take the AFC West. I say 11-5 or 10-6 this year. Look out for us next year and year after.

  9. Dr.Chris24 says:

next to sign, Moreno and Ayers.

  10. KM#27fan says:

Jamie Dukes has another thing coming this year.

  11. BroncoAussie says:

    Yep he is a joke

  12. 07elway says:

hehe, look what I started!! Awesome!! The more fan pics the better.

Being ranked 24th in the league right now is a joke and so are the people who agree. Might as well put us last if Dukes had his say, good grief. We should be put at least in the top 5. We’ve improved so much just by the changes we’ve made, people need to get more optimistic. This is ridiculous… and dumb!!

And I hope Marshall sticks to his word, shows up, STAYS, doesn’t fool around and do more stupid career-jeopardizing things. He’s only hurting himself and it is a distraction to the entire team. Its a distraction not only to himself but everyone else… only problem is he fails to see that. Reason being why I won’t shed a tear if he leaves… his attitude needs to get cleaned up, BAD!!

    With faith…
    GO BRONCOS in ’09!!!!

  13. BroncoAussie says:

Agree on Marshall, 07elway. Maybe not a top five team, but hey who knows. I still think this team will do really well though and make the playoffs.

  14. KM#27fan says:

If our o-line stays healthy 11-5

  15. BroncoAussie says:

And how D and how RB, if the team stays health we will do well.

  16. BroncoAussie says:

*our not how, bugger me I am tired, stayed up and watched the F1 go Mark Webber.

  17. mrbroncofan says:

I can not wait until Denver proves Jamie Dukes completely wrong. It would not be the first time Jamie Dukes was completely wrong.

  18. royalbroncofan1 says:

    Jamie Dukes….gotta luv this guy…. j/k!
Looks like his pitch to trade for B-Marsh is all for not, as least for this year. What personal vendetta does he have against us?? Did we give him a tryout and cut him before his career ended??? Can’t believe this guy.

  19. LBWilson56 says:

KM#27fan:Thanks for posting that video,i just watched it…I’ll tell ya this…Jaime Dukes is a complete a-h%$&…….

  20. 07elway says:

I can’t stand Jokes so much I refuse to watch anything that has to do with him. He’s a disgrace to football and the NFLN. His show is a joke just like he is… hence his new nickname I gave him. That’s all he does is tell jokes… LAME jokes. But we’ll all get the last laugh, I have no doubt about that! Can hardly wait!

    With faith…
    GO BRONCOS in ’09!!!!

  21. MikeFrom-L.A says:

Hello Bronco community! I’m a die hard Bronco fan from L.a. I’ve been reading these blogs for years just to read opinions from knowledgeable bronco fans on what you think about the broncos off-season moves and about how their season should look like, since it seems that all sportswriters love to bash them and note all the negative things about our team. But this is my first post =] Km#27fan i agree too thanks for posting that video. what i liked about bmarsh was that he didnt bash on the broncos and it seemed like he is willing to play but at a high cost. i would love to keep him only because the man is a “BEAST” but i also woldnt mind a first round pick for him since we do have Eddie Royal who i love because he’s a class act and a monster on the field with so much promise. And he reminds me of a smaller Rod Smith
07Elway, a top 5 pick might be a little too high considering that the team is still meshing and learning the new system but i would say no lower than top 10? But definitely not lower than second in the west. Jamie Dukes must have been high to say the raiders will sweep the Broncos next season because the were ‘imploding’. He shouldnt be posting blogs if he knows absolutely nothing about the broncos and their offseason moves. idiot…

  22. samoanbronco says:

JD Hog you are what we call in NZ a complete Muppet!!!

Hey Aussiebronco thatnks for PS3 add might have to hok up for a game at some stage. Madden 10 due in NZ 14th August.

Any way, Broncos looking to secure Ayres and Moreno for a lot longer than 4 years I hope.

Its amazing that on papaer the Broncos still look like a decent team easily higher than 20th, but these bandwagon hopping so called analysts dont know jack and change their opinions from week to week. I cant wait till training starts in a couple of weeks. I hope photos and crap load of footage will be available on the site.

  23. imready says:

I’m always optomistic at the start of the season. I always thought we had some talent on the defensive side of the ball that was never used to those players strengths in the past few season. I think M. Nolan is going to make the real difference with this team. We have had a great offense the past couple of years, probably as much to do with a great O-line, isn’t that always the case in the NFL? If our new young head coach can bring this group together as a team, I wouldn’t be suprised if we win 10+ games and win the division. It all rests on McDaniels shoulders, time to put up or shut up! Go Broncos!

  24. mikew007 says:

Well, we won’t be out-coached! I really believe that!

Did I say that out loud? I know McDaniels is new but can’t help it. I think he is the real deal.

Tough schedule and SD is strong sooo…..8 and 8……but I’m cheering them on every week.

  25. broncofanlvnm says:

Poor Jamie Dukes, still bitter over the bashing the Broncos gave him and his Falcons in Superbowl XXXIII. He needs to get over it already, holding a grudge for over 10 years is long enough already! There is no way in hell the Faiders will sweep this team. This is a solid team all around and it will shut up these so called football “experts” when the season gets rolling. I predict finishing 2nd in AFC West at 10-6 maybe even 11-5.

  26. eeerockski says:

As a Broncos fan, I’d love to say we’re gonna go all the way this, year, but the fact is, we’re in the midst of (a long needed) rebuilding, and have a very tough schedule to boot. Right now, knowing what I know about the team (and it’s not all that much aside from all the signings and departures), I’m gonna say we’ll be in the 15-20 range overall. And that’s not a diss on my beloved team. I believe in the moves we’ve already made, and I truly believe we’re gonna be a REAL force to be reckoned with in the near future (next year), but realistically, I can’t overlook our tough schedule against teams that are at the end of their rebuilding phase, so I say we end up 8-8, maybe 9-7, squeaking in the playoffs at best. Now, hopefully I’m wrong and we dominate, but over the years I’ve learned to temper my expectations as we seemed to fall off at the end of the season, when the good teams do the exact opposite. I’ll be watching every game this year regardless, and will either have a great day or a bad one based on my emotional investment in the team. But even if we tank this season, I can rest alot easier than in years past cause I know we are headed in the right direction, and that by a year or 2, we’ll be one of the top teams in the league again thanks to a front office that can actually build a TEAM from the inside out! Final say, 8-8, 9-7 at best (due to our tough schedule and gutting of one of the least talented rosters in the NFL- depth wise), and possibly a wild card berth. But we will be competitive, and give SD a run in both games, finally!

  27. eeerockski says:

And Knowshon Moreno will be the ROY!

  28. mikew007 says:

Yep…real excited to see Moreno too!

  29. PJBroncofanFunk says:

I say we should be ranked about 5th – 9th overall, simply because of the raw talent that is present on Our team this year!!!

Of course, I will always rank us at #1, but without the fan-bias, I’d realistically say we are anywhere from 5th to 15th, overall, as I said, due to the talent level grouped up here. Seeing as no one has any concrete ideas on what our Offensive OR Defensive schemes will look like, I can see why they ‘assume the worst’ – but nonetheless….

    Thanks for the post Coop!

  30. rayjr26 says:

i think we will win one and lose one to SD…. sweep the raiders, unfortunately, im not sure bout KC… too many question marks there…. but we will should be in the running i would guess at 9-7. fightin off the chargers again.
    GO BRONCOS

  31. rayjr26 says:

    good article eeerockski, thanks!

  32. Ohio says:

KM#27FAN-Thanks for the blog link to who I think is the worst analyst of the NFL in the history of the NFL. Jamie Dukes is a joke…………does he do research or does he dream stuff up than write about it? I love how he said the Raiders should have no problem sweeping the Broncos and the Chiefs………hahahahahahaha………is he nuts……….maybe this is a ploy so he can get more fans to go to Raider games because there fans have thrown in the towel…..or maybe……..he’s completely delusional. People rank the team near the bottom and I just grin when I see this because I know the league and everyone else is in for a great surprise. Our defense on paper could easily rank in the top 10 and our offense maybe took a step sideways in the Cutler-Orton deal but we didn’t lose anyone on offense and we added a premier running back in Moreno! I just don’t get it, I can’t wait to be 3-0 heading into the Dallas game, after we beat the Cowboys to move to 4-0 then maybe we’ll get some love! Until then I’m ok with flying under the radar, makes for a better story after we win the AFC West and the Playoffs start!

  33. 07elway says:

I only said we should be ranked in the top 5 is because I have high expectations for this team. Go ahead, say its unrealistic but there’s no crime in me thinking this team will be so much better than last year. What can I say, I have high hopes for this team. They will most definitely be improved… they’ll get there. I’m not so sure this will be a SB year for them but they could do it if they wanted to. We’ll just have to wait and see how fast and well they all adapt to McD’s new offense scheme and the return of Nolan to our defense. I don’t know how it will all turn out but I can guarantee there won’t be a dull moment this season. It’s gonna be exciting.

    With faith…
    GO BRONCOS in ’09!!!!

  34. Ellismate_#1fan says:

Look here guys, We’re either going to be REALLY GOOD, or REALLY BAD. I say we either go 12-4 or 4-12. The die hard Broncos fan in me says 12-4, but the realistic side of me knows that we don’t have a very good knose tackle to hold down the 3-4. As far as offense goes, I think we’ll be better without Cutler in the sense that Kyle is going to JUST THROW TO MARSHALL!!! Last year Cutler threw a pic to the Dolphins on a 3 yard slant to B-Marsh, and there was nothing but Dolphins around him… pick 6. That’s what I hated about Cutler. Plus, he’s a punk! Knowone’s talkin’ about Moreno, which I can understand because he’s a rookie, but what about Buckhalter, Jordan, HILLIS, and RYAN TORAIN!!! No doubt, Kyle isn’t going to throw for more yards than Cutler did last year, but he’s going to throw more yards than Cutler this year! And we’ll be RUNNIN’ the ball down everyone’s throats!!!

    GO BRONCOS ’09

    RED DRAGONS!!!

  35. royalbroncofan1 says:

Thanks broncofanlvnm… had no idea Dukes was part of that Falcons Team. NOW I understand. Never really knew who he was during his NFL career.

Like your name for him 07elway!!

Coop – back to your original post. I have checked out a few power rankings and honestly feel these guys are way off on their prediction on where we’ll finish. Especially if they’re going off last year. We’ve have made improvement with key aquisitions and drafts picks. We’ve retained our offensive line plus our great receiving corp. Defensively some major changes other than DJ Williams, Elvis and Champ, so this will be a key area to watch. Love the addition of “Wolverine — Dawkins” !!
Coach McDaniels, his coaching staff & the Team will be flying somewhat under the radar this year which is fine with me, (except with us). What I see in McDaniels is that he will be making adjustments as the season goes on and they will get better with each week that passes by. (We have the talent).

Won’t make any predictions other than we will make the Playoffs this year !!!

  36. 07elway says:

He earned the name Jokes… it was well deserved!! hahaha

  37. archangel77 says:

07elway, I agree with your prediction even if some consider it lofty. One of the things that I have seen in the acquisitions on the defensive side of the ball have me believing that this could be the sleeper unit of the ’09 season as well as the one thing that puts us over the likes of the Chargers. Over the past few years the Chargers have dominated us physically. Last year during the last game of the season my oldest son turned away from the game and asked me why the players for the Chargers were so much bigger than those of the Broncos. This may seem like a simplistic observation but it is something that has been gnawing at me for the last four or five years. We have simply been out muscled in many of the games that we have lost. Last year we saw a dramatic turn around regarding the size of our offensive line as well as some of our receivers and running backs (The Beast, Graham, Hillis, and Clady) and the effect was undeniable. These bruisers not only have the speed and physicality to make the play but they punish the players on the other side of the ball as well. In military terms this is what the “King of Battle” (artillery) does to your enemy. It destroys their will to fight. With the shift to a 3-4 hybrid I am seeing moves that emulate a similar philosophy on the defensive side of the ball. Am I talking out of my a@#? Maybe; but you will notice that my cheeks are orange and blue!

    Break their will to compete!

    Mike in San Diego

  38. Crush Arizona says:

We will be fine and I agree with eeerockskii about our being 8-8 next year and that we are going in the right direction and who knows? with all the moves on the D side and special teams I think that no matter what we are going to be an all arround well ballenced team.

  39. Crush Arizona says:

OH Yeah! Jamie Dukes,,,,Who the hell is this guy any way? Did anyone even know him before he self appointed himself the anti Howard Cosell on NFL channel? To here him talk youd think he invented football, Did you see him the other night when Hot Rod Smith was on W/ his two rings in tow? You could see the envy in his eyes…Good for him. A good serving of Crow never hurt anybody. This Dummy even tried to dress down Smith like he knows what it takes to win a championship.

  40. mark_cooper says:

I knew I could count on you all!!! GREAT STUFF!

I love you guys and gals with the posts on Jamie (Joke) Dukes. Heck, I still hate the Giants because they cost me a World Championship ring in SB XXI and refuse to listen to that stupid “New York, New York” song for as long as I live. :o ) yea, I know, kinda childish, but SO!!

    That’s funny.

On a serious note, we could be a lot better than folks think, when you take into account the injuries we had at the receiver position throughout the year. I think we may surprise some folks. I have to go back to mondono’s mantra. “Time of Possession”. Mondono, nice fish, I’ll have to post that. I know some folks won;t appreciate the fish thing now that camps started but I get some artistic latitude since I’m the POST boy.

If we can control the ball with the offense I think we’ll have and improve on D every week, we have a shot at San Diego and the AFC West. That’s were you have to start. Winning the division.

  41. monodono says:

    THAT’S RIGHT COOP TIME OF POSSESSION ! ! !
control the linebackers, make them think not react and you have them………….

    TIME OF POSSESSION ! ! !
