All QB’s looked good to me.

August 12th, 2011 - 12:10pm by mark_cooper

So will my title start a new QB controversy….nah. I liked what I saw out of everyone and I have to tell the truth, I had my little guys football practice last night till 8pm. Creek Bruins 12year olds (GREAT GROUP) by the way and having a blast teaching them hands, feet, body position, HOLDING :o ) and few other tricks of the trade…SO I missed the first part of the game but caught as much as I could afterwards on NFL Network and switched around for all the highlights and the late news and early shows this morning.

Great comments on the last blog. As you can tell I have a different perspective on things often as a former player. Overall I thought it was a good game for the fellas only being together for such a SHORT time as a new staff and players andhaving such a short camp and the lack of contact that the have these days. HAVE to share a comment that was made during the negotitations that you may not have heard. Someone made the comment, that the owners, “gave the players everything they could possibly want, except for someone to play for them’. Is that funny of what???? I had to laugh BUT I also have to say, it will be interesting when we compare this year versus past years injuries?

I don’t want anyone to get hurt but you have to wonder if guys have had enough contact and the new guys enough reps to be competitive. I think a few guys will get cut that just never had enough of a chance to be seen in action….will be interesting to watch over the next few years.

BACK TO THE GAME..I enjoyed what I saw and thought for the short amount of time together the offense looked ALOT better than I expected. Same with the Defense and we didn’t get to see a lot of the #1′s so I hold those comments a bit.

Pre-season is a tough time to judge a team, both offensively and defensively but it was fun to get cranked up.

Oh yea, on the fishing thing that got out of hand and I never commented on because it wasn’t worth it. I fish Celebrity charity (catch and release tournaments) 80% of the time and I host one September 22-24 in Basalt that have raised $MM of dollars that have impacted lives of folks with Cancer and Cystic Fibrosis..no regrets. The tournaments buy science. It’s a passion of mine since leaving football. A lot of you know that I do them on weekends during the season so I’m late commenting sometimes. So yep still fishing when I’m not doing the family thing/kids football coaching or selling real estate. :o ) I work to fish.

Love to hear your thoughts.

    Yea Royal…

Miller was speeding around him and slipped and fell and they want to say that Smith “blew” him up….hahahaha silly cowgirl announcers. Always telling it how they imagine it!!

  2. broncosfreak30 says:

But I don’t know if anyone saw but Miller about had 1-2 sacks in that game!! On one play, he blitzed from the middle of the d-line and was a foot away from blowing up the QB but the QB threw the ball to a receiver. I forget the other time!

Also Ayers about had him one as well!

  3. weareamr says:

    Today is:

    release nate jones day!

  4. weareamr says:

is nate jones stiil with the team?
    oh
then go ahead and CUT HIM!

  5. royalbroncofan1 says:

Well they certainly gave Nate Jones plenty of work the other night so he has to be on the bubble. We know the bubble’s been burst since last season.

  6. weareamr says:

    well stated RBF1!

  7. baylinorcrush says:

There are two reasons to give someone lots of work in preseason:

    1. Because a specific player with limited experience is expected to contribute heavily in regular season but he has still a lot to learn to get ready. Example last game: Cassius Vaughn.

    2. Because a specific player with long standing experience is underperforming at a position and you want to give him every shot possible in the sake of fairness before you may need to cut him. Example: Nate Jones.

Other #1 example last game: Mccarthy.

  8. royalbroncofan1 says:

You had some good points on McCarthy on your breakdown of the game bay.
He definitely made a strong case for himself.
Didn’t the Broncos bring him off the practice squad late last season ? I know he played but wasn’t sure if he was on the 53 man roster.

  9. sndvl says:

    Hey weareamr! What is today?

  10. baylinorcrush says:

He wasn’t on the roster, we carried 4 safeties last year, Dawk, Hill Bruton and McBath. He probably was on the practice squad.

  11. baylinorcrush says:

Yeah, McCarthy spent the first five weeks on the Broncos’ practice squad before signing to the active roster on Oct. 16, 2010.

  12. seweatherman1 says:

Matt Prater is an idiot. When are these professional athletes going to learn that there are young children that idolize them and some try to mimic everything that they (pro athletes) do. Somebody said in an earlier post that all he had to do was pick up the phone and call someone to come give him a ride. I agree. I also don’t think that neither the league nor the team should sweep this under the table. It should be known around the league that if you take the field in a Bronco uniform then you are one of the elite of the group; not only athletically, but morally as well. Our players need to know that this type of activity is not going to be tolerated what-so-ever. It wouldn’t hurt the league to take this same attitude. This might be his first offense, but if it is no problem. His stiff fine, penalty, suspension imposed by the league and team will be a firm reminder to him about not doing it a second time.

I don’t know if any of you are or have been law enforcement officers, but I have spent over 25 years of my life in this field and there is no excuse for D.U.I. There have been many occasions where I would be talking with a group of young people and one of them will say to me “Why can’t we do this? (So and so, being a pro athlete) does it and he doesn’t get punished like this.”

  13. henryac says:

Why is it I think weareamr wanted to leave Nate Jones is Dallas?

  14. royalbroncofan1 says:

    Thx bay much appreciated.

  15. baylinorcrush says:

About Jones, only problem for Fox is he is very short at CB, only 4 he can count on, Bailey, Goodman, Syd and Vaughn, after that Cox is on the edge of the judiciary precipice and Chris Harris and Bing are in no way ready to contribute, so point is if Fox can’t get CB help before the 20th, he might hold onto Nate until the final cut Sept 3rd, but I think we can sincerely all say (other than Nate) that we hope he’s gone for the regular season.

  16. baylinorcrush says:

BTW, McCarthy only played on ST last year and was placed on IR in early December.

  17. baylinorcrush says:

McCarthy tore his anterior cruciate ligament covering a kickoff against the Arizona Cardinals.

  18. baylinorcrush says:

Bengals rookie QB Andy Dalton’s first pass…interception.

Come on Orton, take a pay cut, LOL.

  19. 1nOnlyTRB says:

Wow its crazy that young folks actually say that to a cop seweatherman, granted they are tipsy/drunk at the time but thats a blow to those who say young folk don’t pay attention to that and mimic that.

Nate jones must go indeed. As I was watching the game, and commenting on live blog, thats all I kept saying. Lito Sheppard is out there, Kelvin Hayden, ANYONE but Nate Jones. He stunk it up. Maybe he is better in man but when he was playing zone, he got TORCHED.

    TRB

  20. 1nOnlyTRB says:

Brandon Lloyd is working on his field goal kicking during the special teams portion of practice.

looks like they are already getting ready to move on without prater lol. TRB out…

  21. weareamr says:

    SNDVL.. TODAY IS:

release nat jones day. Thanks for asking.

  22. weareamr says:

    henryac,
i think he just wants him off the roster before he lets someone else score on our defense.

  23. baylinorcrush says:

There is no way they will let go of Prater for that, it is obviously for now what looks like an isolated occurence and they will keep him and have a replacement for him if and whenever a suspension occurs, but just temporarily, no way they can give up on a guy with that much potential for one bad mistake. But I take it you were joking anyway.

  24. sndvl says:

As TRB mentioned- Lito Shepard, Kelvin Hayden and Karl Paymah (remember him) are all UFAs. Who can add depth and experience more than 1 Nate Jones can provide. Asante Samuel can be had in a trade as well.

    Release Nate Jones Day!

  25. baylinorcrush says:

PAYMAH!!! “PAY ME MO” PAYMAH, no thanks he was horrible.

  26. weareamr says:

    sndvl..

    Amen Bronco Bro,

    release nate jones day!

oh no he let another unknown into the endzone, again.

  27. baylinorcrush says:

To me this one doesn’t require a “must go” campaign for Jones, not like Marshall, Fox can surely tell as well as any of us how horrible Nate was, it will be taken care of in due time, but most likely not today nor tomorrow.

  28. 1nOnlyTRB says:

Ahhh yea, I was joking … even if they were to move on without prater which they won’t, im pretty sure it won’t be the starting WR replacing him lol … so yes a joke. TRB

  29. baylinorcrush says:

BTW, isn’t next saturday’s game the stupidest of all preseason games, us playing Buffalo who we’ll play again in regular season, talk about the ultimate vanilla game from both side, that is so stupid, preseason games are usually pretty boring, but this one will take the cake!

  30. seweatherman1 says:

Bay, I am not saying release Prater. I am saying that if they give him a fine, make is such that it hurts to miss that money. I am not even advocating a suspension for this the first offense. All that would do is give him an unpaid vacation, and I am not for that at all. Hit him in the pocketbook and make it count, along with a stiff warning that the second time around will not be looked at so lightly. We already know that being found guilty in the courts they will deal with it to their limits, but what I am saying is that by the time the league AND the team get done hitting that pocketbook he will feel it enough that he will thiink the next time he goes and takes that drink and gets behind the wheel of a vehicle.

  31. weareamr says:

    bay,

you truly r the “cool head” that prevails.

a statement needs to be made though, after the players watched the film of nate jones “o’laying” recievers into the endzone. Fox needs to say that kind of play is and always will be unexceptable in orange and blue, period.

  32. baylinorcrush says:

And what will be weird too, is that the game will be played on the 20th and on that same day just few hours later is the deadline to cut the roster by 15, bet they will have the cut list ready before the game and it will take a miracle performance by anyone on it to change their minds.

  33. baylinorcrush says:

Yeah weatherman, hit him in the pocket book and next time he might have to stay at Motel 6 instead of La Quinta, LMAO. LaQuinta, that’s a pretty cheap place, I guess Prater is cheap.

  34. seweatherman1 says:

That is weird. I had not thought of that. Talking about having your mind made up. Go in at the end of the game and be notified you are being released. Wow!

  35. seweatherman1 says:

He didn’t want to spend much on his lady friend apparantely. That must have been why she was trying to catch a cab when she talked to the police.

  36. baylinorcrush says:

Yeah, Saturday will be Black Saturday for 480 players, their NFL dreams busted for this year unless another team picks them up and the odds of anyone picking the first cut left overs are minimal at best. Very tough for those guys for sure.

  37. Bro says:

When and how much players get cutt for the first time bay?

  38. baylinorcrush says:

And on Sept 3rd 704 more players will have their NFL hopes dashed, even if few of those will make practice squads or might even find spots on other teams, but still, the great majority of those 704 players will be out of work, with the 480 that’s 1184 total, just thought a reminder to that fact was important to point out when we usually think how easy players have it in the NFL, well not all, just saying.

  39. baylinorcrush says:

90 to 75 by next Saturday.

  40. Bro says:

    Allrighty, thanks

  41. BeastFromEast92 says:

    Karl Payma sucks balls!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  42. baylinorcrush says:

That’s what I was trying to say to sndvl earlier, but obviously I didn’t have the necessary vocabulary, LOL.

  43. mark_cooper says:

Pulled this from ESPN site and heard it around the lunch hour.

Thomas (strained pectoral) and Warren (torn triceps) won’t be back on the field anytime soon.

On Thomas, the Broncos made the former Patriots star interior lineman the centerpiece of their free agent class by signing him to a two-year, $8 million deal that included a $2.5 million bonus and $1.5 million salary for 2011.

They also re-signed their own free agent defensive tackle, Marcus Thomas, at $1 million for one year.

Both were injured within five minutes of each other when they lined up with the first-team defense during a 9-on-7 drill Monday.

Thomas (strained pectoral) and Warren (torn triceps) won’t be back on the field anytime soon.

Thomas’ chest muscle wasn’t completely torn off the bone like Elvis Dumervil’s was when he suffered a season-ending injury early in last summer’s training camp. So, the Broncos are hoping he’ll be ready to play by the time their season starts Sept. 12.

Warren is out indefinitely. The Broncos are hoping he won’t need surgery and can return to the field at some point this season, although that would mean going with a 52-man roster for a while.

With the hip from last year and and now the tricep, if it needs surgery might end his career…not sure and hope not or that would be a tough way to leave the league.

I’m still wondering how much/many injuries we will see this year with the limited contact and reps the new CBA allows???
