All QB’s looked good to me.

August 12th, 2011 - 12:10pm by mark_cooper

So will my title start a new QB controversy….nah. I liked what I saw out of everyone and I have to tell the truth, I had my little guys football practice last night till 8pm. Creek Bruins 12year olds (GREAT GROUP) by the way and having a blast teaching them hands, feet, body position, HOLDING :o ) and few other tricks of the trade…SO I missed the first part of the game but caught as much as I could afterwards on NFL Network and switched around for all the highlights and the late news and early shows this morning.

Great comments on the last blog. As you can tell I have a different perspective on things often as a former player. Overall I thought it was a good game for the fellas only being together for such a SHORT time as a new staff and players andhaving such a short camp and the lack of contact that the have these days. HAVE to share a comment that was made during the negotitations that you may not have heard. Someone made the comment, that the owners, “gave the players everything they could possibly want, except for someone to play for them’. Is that funny of what???? I had to laugh BUT I also have to say, it will be interesting when we compare this year versus past years injuries?

I don’t want anyone to get hurt but you have to wonder if guys have had enough contact and the new guys enough reps to be competitive. I think a few guys will get cut that just never had enough of a chance to be seen in action….will be interesting to watch over the next few years.

BACK TO THE GAME..I enjoyed what I saw and thought for the short amount of time together the offense looked ALOT better than I expected. Same with the Defense and we didn’t get to see a lot of the #1′s so I hold those comments a bit.

Pre-season is a tough time to judge a team, both offensively and defensively but it was fun to get cranked up.

Oh yea, on the fishing thing that got out of hand and I never commented on because it wasn’t worth it. I fish Celebrity charity (catch and release tournaments) 80% of the time and I host one September 22-24 in Basalt that have raised $MM of dollars that have impacted lives of folks with Cancer and Cystic Fibrosis..no regrets. The tournaments buy science. It’s a passion of mine since leaving football. A lot of you know that I do them on weekends during the season so I’m late commenting sometimes. So yep still fishing when I’m not doing the family thing/kids football coaching or selling real estate. :o ) I work to fish.

Love to hear your thoughts.

WOW………..BB surprised you got that thru without moderation!!!!!!!!!!

  2. 1nOnlyTRB says:

Yea Quinn did ok, but lets not get carried away with Quinn 1. Its just a preseason game, and the first one. His first drive wasn’t that pretty either, neither was Ortons or Tebows. I think overall when it comes to the QQ, they all were who we thought they were lol. TRB

  3. samurai713 says:

Tebow and Quinn looked good stat wise, Orton not so much, I say give all three as equal play time as possible next game, take the top two performers and split the third game, and let the best play the majority of the 4th one.

  4. mad_orange_devil_27 says:

My biggest beef with Tebow is you will see a lot of bad ball placement, which would eventually equal injured receivers. He needs to go through his progressions, a lot of wasted routes out there when he’s on the field because he’d rather run.

SS McCarthy looks good. Go Fighting Irish! It’s good to be a ND & Bronco fan these days.

  5. 1nOnlyTRB says:

samurai, Sounds like a great plan splitting the 3rd game but it wont happen, and the 4th game is 100 percent back ups. I don’t think the starters even step foot in that game. The 3rd game is definitely the one where the starters play alot longer, like a whole half, maybe more, if it were possible, would like to see Tebow with the ones in that game. But it doesn’t work like that and if Orton is to be the starter he will need as much practice as possible. TRB

  6. BeastFromEast92 says:

Never did see the holding call on the Tebow rushing TD!!!!!!!!!!!

  7. BeastFromEast92 says:

Tebow is a playmaker…who can’t see that is freaking blind is all I can say!

  8. socalbigbroncofan says:

hey guys. also watching the game. i know the announcers are bias but they talk a lot of crap on Tebow.

  9. socalbigbroncofan says:

yea beast. wish they would of showed the hold.

  10. BeastFromEast92 says:

TRB is right he 4th game will be all backups,to see who will make the 53 or 54 man roster,no starters will see much playing time, the 2nd & 3rd preseason games will showcase the starters and 2nd team players!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  11. BeastFromEast92 says:

socal………….I never saw a hold on the Tebow TD scramble..wtf????

  12. socalbigbroncofan says:

would u guys think of decker and willis in the first half. they looked good. hope to see them in the regular season.

  13. socalbigbroncofan says:

thats what im saying. i dont think there was one. lol.

  14. BeastFromEast92 says:

BTW…the Broncos dominated the 1st half stats,it wasn’t even close dudes,we kicked their arses big time, and to give up that many yards to a backup QB in the 2nd half, was a disgrace to the Broncos, and a slap in the face to Allen, the DC,IMO….PICK IT UP IN THE NEXT PRESEASON GAME!!!

  15. BeastFromEast92 says:

Home field will benefit the home team, but Decker,Willis, and Bell looked great to me!!!!!!

LLoyd,Royal,Decker,Willis,Anderson,Dell…and Thomas(if healthy) we could very well have the best WR core in the NFL…seriously!!!!!!!!!!!!

  16. BeastFromEast92 says:

    Bell..Dell……lol!!!!!!whatever!!!!!!!!he is a great WR,IMO!

  17. socalbigbroncofan says:

I agree. offense has been good for a few years.(not talking about the qq) but if the d can pick it up that would obviously help.

  18. BeastFromEast92 says:

    socal..you are so right!!!!!!!!!!

but c’mon man we gotta score points too bro,we ain’t gonna win very many 13 – 10 games,we gotta put the freaking ball in the Endzone…..we need to average at least 21 points a game to finish 8-8,IMO….just me!!!!

  19. socalbigbroncofan says:

i admit our redzone offense has not been good. and wasnt it like that when culter was here, not the best. thats gotta get better.

  20. BeastFromEast92 says:

The Offense has been subpar since Cutler left, not many fans will agree with me on that, but I remember the Plummer days,so mediocre that it was pathetic,we have a chance to go with Ordinary Orton,Titanium Tebow,or just plain ole Quinn,I will cast my vote for the man that I think can get the job done and lead us back to resapectability, and that man’s name is ….Tim Tebow..sorry that’s my gut feeling and that’s what I am going with!!!!!!!

    BFE

  21. BeastFromEast92 says:

Almost 2:00 AM here………..where’s the real Bronco fans at?????

    LOL/JK!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  22. 1nOnlyTRB says:

I thought TN was 1 hr behind EST … its almost 2am here

I don’t believe its been better. In Cutlers last year, our Offense was never better. Unfortunately that was the year we lost alot of RBs, but the people we put in got yards too. The passing game was phenomenal. We drifted away from Broncos running history, but the real killer was D … our D was trash but our Offense was high flying and one of the best IMO.

  23. BeastFromEast92 says:

As most of you guys know me,I AM a big believer in Defense wins Championships,so I’ll leave it at that tonight,we are looking a LOT better on Defense, but we got a long way to go to be a Division Champ, let alone a Conference Champ, but I do have faith in our 1st string Defense…..C’MON LET’S GO MEN…WE NEED TO BE RESPECTABLE 1ST…THEN COMES THE CHAMPIONSHIPS AND TITLES.I know we have the talent to Get-R-Done….so don’t hold back…let’em hve it with both barrells, kick some ass this seasoin dudes!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  24. BeastFromEast92 says:

TRB..the EST is the same time zone you are on,and Cutler was the last QB we had that was even remotely considered as an NFL QB!!!!!!!!!!

Our Defense has sucked for the past 10 years, really!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  25. BeastFromEast92 says:

Broncos was the 3rd best OFFENSE in the NFL in ’08!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  26. 1nOnlyTRB says:

3rd ranked. thats sounds about right. All we needed was D lol. Ooo the McD error lol.

Oh, I guess u don’t live in Nashville. My cousin and sis went to school in nashville, my boy is still down there too. So i know nashville is Central time but i guess parts of TN like maybe Knoxville or Chatnooga is EST … Not sure just geussing. TRB

  27. BeastFromEast92 says:

Imagine if we had Cutler,Marshall,LLoyd,Decker,Royal,Thomas….and the …O line we got jelling now, plus Moreno and MaGahee with the Defense we have brewing now, sorry but we would have the top 5 team in the NFL,instead of rising from the ashes, like we are,McD Royally screwed us!

  28. BeastFromEast92 says:

Yeah TRB I live closer to Knoxville than Nashville,so I am on EST,barely!

  29. raidrhadr says:

Watching NFL replay Den vs Dal. I love the way Jeremiah Johnson runs. I know this subject was covered last night in the live blog but man he hits the hole fast. Love it!!!!

  30. BeastFromEast92 says:

Nate Jones sucked in the last drive and Vaughn didn’t help him out much either!!!!!!!!!!!

  31. 1nOnlyTRB says:

I like Vaughns speed but he has alot of work as a CB. I like Cox after Champ and Goodman but he may be prison bound. Like he said, he finds it harder to play inside (nickel) than to play LCB or RCB. He does alot of good things in coverage, but I also think he spends too much time looking in the backfield that he sometimes loses track of who he is to cover. The most stellar Nickel we got is SyD. Vaughn needs to go back to KR … he had a great showing last year in the last game against SD. Him and Bing (if he makes the roster) should handle KR/PR. Bing is super fast. But I don’t think he is doing well enough as a CB, but I hope we keep him. I still think we should look into Lito Sheppard. 2 maybe 3 year deal. TRB out

  32. Yovi21 says:

Jones did terrible on every drive BFE…not just the last play lol

  33. weareamr says:

    McCoy’s playcalling= c-
Allen broght thye house alot, I’ll give him him a c+.
    ST’s =d
    1st team O = c
    1st team d= c+
    both backups performed like backups.
    Overall C

    Go Broncos!!! Go John,John ElFoxWay!!!

Real nice to see the Broncos play again, yeah, football is back!

  34. runnittburger says:

I know you all know football better than I ever will but, has anybody ever given any thought to playing Tim Teboe at fullback. It will allow him to showcase his apparent running skills but allow him time to further develop his mechanics by letting him pull up and throw the occasional pass keeping Kyle Orton quarterbacking the team.

  35. baylinorcrush says:

FB is a brutal position, that would be the most certain asinine way to diminish Tebow’s chances to ever make it as QB in this league.

And guys, there was a hold on the Tebow TD run, trust me, by Chris Clark, they showed the replay of it on the live broadcast, but since you are watching a replay of the game that must fit in the alloted time slot they probably cut it out.

  36. baylinorcrush says:

Here comes the Denver media to the rescue of all Orton supporters:

Broncos’ split-second lapse cost bid for TD
    By Jeff Legwold

The difference between a touchdown and a field goal for the Broncos’ starters in Thursday night’s preseason opener was about a second.

“That’s it, I was about a second too late,” Broncos quarterback Kyle Orton said.

The Broncos, having opened the game with a quality drive, had a first-and-goal from the Dallas 1-yard line. They tried a fade route to Brandon Lloyd and Orton’s pass was incomplete.

WOW, great insights Legwold, thanks for everything otherwise I still would be completely in the dark about Orton’s failure in the end zone, hopefully you didn’t get your face all smeared up in the process, geeee.

  37. baylinorcrush says:

    Prater is bummed:

According to the reports, Prater told officers he “didn’t leave a note on the vehicle he hit because there was multiple witnesses confronting/yelling at him.”

He didn’t think to call police, he said.

Prater said he had not been drinking, but officers reported they smelled a strong odor of alcohol on his breath.

Prater failed to pass roadside maneuvers and officers arrested him.

After being transported to the police department, Prater said: “I really messed up. I’m going to lose my job. I deserve this,” the report states.

A breath test was administered at the station.

Bummer. We might eventually lose out on a couple three pointers.

  38. royalbroncofan1 says:

I did watch the replay last night. The 2nd string offensive line struggled in run game. Lendale White seemed to be hitting hole quicker than when I first saw him run night before, so he seems to be healthy. Maybe because I was paying a little more attention to him. Footwork looked good. We should see a different outcome if he rotates in with the ones.

Moreno does seem to have a little more deceptivness with his cuts, as he left a couple players grabbing for air. McGahee looks to be a great addition for the Team.

Lance Ball also struggled behind 2nd O-line but did have a nice catch and run on screen pass from Tebow right after 45 yd pass to Matt Willis.

Jerimiah Johnson – nice run for TD !

Old news I know… just throwing in my 2 cents.

  39. baylinorcrush says:

To tell you the truth, in live action I really could hardly ever see White hit a hole so no way I was able to see his quickness, hope you are right though, that he is healthy, would love to see him contribute this year, he was our only shining spot at RB last year for the short time he was in.

  40. royalbroncofan1 says:

He did get thru to second level a couple of times was but tackled immediately, so don’t really know if he can cut liked he used to. That was the only thing I really didn’t see him accomplish, but he hit a few small running lanes rather quickly.

  41. baylinorcrush says:

Cutting after a ruptured achilles would sound like the hardest thing to do, at least mentally I would imagine.

  42. KnowshonForSure says:

    testing 1-2-3

  43. 3rdGeneration says:

Thanks for all the updates. Been camping since Wednesday, so this is all I have to understand the game. I have it on DVR, so I can’t wait to watch it when I get home.

  44. weareamr says:

    release nate jones now
    and
like to see RB JJ get meaningful carries. Looked like he was playing faster than everyone else and we know we need a homerun RB.

  45. weareamr says:

    today is:

    release nate jones day!!!

  46. weareamr says:

did anyone mention release nate jones yet?

  47. weareamr says:

nate jones inhales through a straw! release him

  48. weareamr says:

did you read, looks like weareamr wants the Broncos to release nate jones.
    yeah, i read that.
then, the Broncos better release nate jones.

  49. royalbroncofan1 says:

It was funny to hear Cowboy announcers on a 3rd down play, (Broncos on D), as they mentioned Tyron Smith “blew out” Von Miller…lol.
On the play Miller rushed the outside edge really hard and fast, and had Smith moving, when he cut on Smith’s inside shoulder and had a clear path to Romo, but slipped and fell. Romo was fortunate Miller didn’t keep his feet as he would’ve cleaned his clock.

On another 3rd down play, Dawkins blitzed and shoved TE Whitten right up Romo’s backside causing an incompletion to Bryant. Dawkins looked strong on that play.

Good to see some defensive stops by the ones.

  50. broncosfreak30 says:

I have now watched the game about 2 1/2 times and Jones gave up big play after big play. He also gave up the big play down the field where they threw it to a wide open receiver at our 15 yard line!! He has got to go! If any of our starting corners get hurt, God forbid, it’s game over because QB’s will keep targeting him just like they did in that game!!!
