3-0 Makes For A Fun Start

September 28th, 2009 - 7:16pm by mark_cooper

Funny how the papers changed directions today with a headline of 3-0, NO JOSHING….gotta love it. Little different tune than the preseason, huh.

I LOVE BEATING THE RAIDERS, so my season will be complete with another win against them. :o)

O.K. not quite, but it sure makes me smile hard and I loved the jawing that went on before and during the game.

Getting better every week is what I see and that’s what wins games at the end of the season and keeps you in the hunt. Crazy year so far with a few of the BIGS taking it on the chin early, Steelers, Titans, Fins, Cards, Bills, but don’t let that fool you either because a few have made the Super Bowl with early season losses.

Buck (108 yds) and Moreno (90yds) and MARSHALL is back and had a score. Hey Brandon!! Thanks buddy, that’s the Brandon we all love and want to adore. Keep up the good work and you’ll make more money than you can imagine and the endorsements will roll in.

As we develop outside and get the slot guy into the game underneath we will just get better and better and open up the outside for big plays. That’s what I like about this offense, it will create opportunity if your watching this all develop.

D…..DEFENSE, big game and remember back in the preseason when we talked about turnovers and said they will come…..wellllllll, you’re seeing them now. When we need them too. By the way, holding anyone to 137 yards in total offense if TOTAL domination by all standards.

O-LINE, yea baby, churning out another good year. Big week coming with more all pro’s than any team in the league. Great test and a time to shine.

Funny story, I have a neighbor, Bill Jennings, that looks like the NFL “Cowboys” store walking down the street. Even his “Motor Coach” is painted the Cowboy colors and has the big star on it, so I’m looking for some neighborhood bragging rights this week.

I know you all loved the win soooooo what do you think about the offense so far??

P.S. DOOM added 2 more!! :o)

Even though we’ve looked really good in the past 2 weeks, I think we all know the next 2 months are really gonna tell us and the world what we’re made of. And I KNOW we got the goods!

    GO BRONCOS!!!!

As long as we fight each an every game i will be happy.

    Nice post as always, Coop!!

Defense, like I’ve said before has been incredible! Doom, Dawkins, Champ, DJ, Hill, Davis, Goodman… good Lord, somebody stop me! The D is on fire. Hope they can keep it that way against the Cowgirls. Can hardly wait to see Doom terrorize Tony Lamo all day! I got the giggles just thinking about it. haha

Offense is getting better with each game. The more they get to utilize the new system in actual games the more accustomed they’ll become to the system. We just need to have some patience and we all (including the team) need to take this season one game at a time. For Orton not being used to such a complicated system, he’s doing a fine job with it so far. Think about it… he came into Denver not having a clue about McD’s system and so far in the regular season where the games count for something… he hasn’t turned the ball over yet (in 3 games). I’m impressed with his progress.

But like Meisner said up there… the next 2 months will be our big test. Despite having some really tough games coming up we can win as many of them as they want to win. Go ahead, call me crazy… but I can dream if I want to. The games we have against SD will as always be a battle for life or death. NE won’t be a walk in the park. We have to fight for every win no matter if we play the SB champs or the Chokies who have no offense whatsoever.

Every game we have is winable (ha, I just made that up), it’s just a matter of how much this team is willing to fight for that win.

    With faith…
    GO BRONCOS!!!!

Im going to throw out the score that im thinking I say we win 24-6 heres hopeing we can hold another team without a TD.

Bronco Fans i saw we all make an oath here right now!!!!!

From the cowboys on we all need to make an oath that we will support this team no matter what happens. Even if we got 3-13 this year, we need to stand strong with our team. Even though many of you would already do this, it is important that our team stays close and our fans stay close to our team. No matter what happens. This is a rebuilding year, and an evaluation year. Next year will be great i assure you, and heck this year could still be good. But we as fans..TRUE FANS!! Will stay with this team, and support orton even when his bad game comes **which it will**

    Go broncos!!

  6. thundersrevenge says:

Any time you can make the opposing team start to commit “cheap-shot” penalties out of frustration means that your doing a good job all around!

I cant even begin to express my elation with dominating the raiders! I’m absolutely beside myself with the job that the Broncos did!!!!! D was excellent again. O line was awesome!! Gave Orton plenty of time to make smart choices with the ball! And Marshall is starting to look like he wants to be part of the team instead of Mr. One-man Show.

Back in April just about everyone was doom and gloom about how bad this year was going to be. Now each week is new and exciting with how the team is responding and growing together as a cohesive unit. Our D is 300% better than last year, we have a QB that is showing poise and comfort on and off the field (Watch Orton’s postgame interviews) and the atmosphere with the team is not that “we have arrived” but that of “we are not happy until we dominate the world”!!

I guess what I’m trying to say is that “Attitude” is all the difference. This team knows that hard work and building on the positive is where it’s at to be successful. Last year it almost seemed that we walked on to the field feeling that we had already won the game and didn’t need to work for 60 minutes let alone the week leading up to the next game.

I don’t think you’ll have to hide from your neighbor this weekend Coop! Were gonna eat up Romo!!!!!

    Go Broncos!!!!!!!

  7. raidrhadr says:

Coop!!! Great post….you are right about teams starting slow and well… winning it all. The Steelers, for one, have done that. You’re also right about the possibility of the outside recievers crankin it up to get more looks to the slot….that’s why there are 3 WRs spots on the depth chart. Hate to play safety, sam or will against us….mismatch is a comin’….too many weapons to cover.

I thought the O looked good. Dominated the line of scrimmage. I heard alot about the ‘raider front 7′ and how we wouldn’t be successful against them. Over 200 hundred yards rushing quickly dispells that notion. Took any pressure off Kyle so he could make plays in the passing game when he wanted to and not under desperation. In Coach McDs postgame he said Kyle checked into alot of those runs at the line….obviously making the right pre-snap reads. Love it. Love to hate the raiders. Apparently the raiders are trying to to revive thier rep as a dirty team with….Richard Seymour???? Thought Clady was gonna launch a missle. hmmmm….Tom Cable….raiders fighting….you do the math.

Can’t say enough about the Defense. Wooo Hooo!

Here are some other things that not many of us expected:

    We’re 3-0
    We are +6 in turnovers
We lead the league in sacks (10 shared with 2 other teams)
We have a QB with zero INTs (Only 3 QBs can say that)
Have an offense and defense both ranked in the top 10.
Have an excellent rushing attack….and best of all
the #1 Defense in the league!!!!! Woo Hoo!!!!

We are allowing 5.3 points per game…16 total so far…..the next best are the jets who have allowed 33 total.

I have been ending my posts with The Orange Crush Lives since training camp started…..do we believe?….hell yes we do! Get ready to start the DOOOOM! chant in Mile High!!! Bring on them cowgirls!!! See you in the South Stands!!!!

GO BRONCOS!!!! South Stands Forever!!! The Orange Crush Lives!!

    13min. of TIME OF POSSESSION ! ! !
I’m not sure I should say anything else…..

Alright just a few things, I’m going to talk about somethings that could ba worked on.
45 run play’s, 23 pass play’s (not quite balanced but you know I will take it)
    5 penalties for 30 yards.

One more thing, I think The Broncos need to use the play action fake more in the red zone and stop with the shotgun in the red zone.
Let’s use the fact that The Broncos are running the ball so well and use a play action fake then hit a TE in the end zone. Let’s get these TE’s involved more.

don’t get me wrong I couldn’t be more happy with The Broncos and the way things have worked out. I’m not complaining just trying to be objective and helpful.

    TIME OF POSSESSION ! ! !

    GO BRONCOS ! ! !

  9. brian_schneider says:

I know that most teams change their game plan up every week, but last night I watched the Cowboys. They didn’t look too impressive. Carolina isn’t no pushover team even if they are 0-3. Ware, yeah he’s good, but we have great tackles. I’m looking to setup the run early, use the middle of the field, then take some longer shots to Marshall and Royal downfield. On D, if we continue to play the way we have the past 3 weeks, no contest. Even if Barber starts, we have the attacking ability to shut him down. Then make Romo throw to win, and watching the Giants game against the Cowboys, he’s not too good at doing that with the WR that he has. I do know that this is going to be a very interesting game. I sure hope Dumervil gets some more sacks, and Champ, Goody, Dawkins and Hill get some picks.

  10. brian_schneider says:

Question: Does anyone know if Stokely will get to play this weekend?

  11. whitebronco#1 says:

    Cheers Coop!

Thundersrevenge… not “everyone”. There were some of us faithful all the time.

I agree with you monodono… a play action in that series on goal line would be perfect. We had 2 TE in there and 1 of them surely could have gotten free after 3 running plays.

My favorite play… well, it wasn’t a play, but… was Seymour’s frustration vs. Clady’s coolnes. I bet even McD told Seymour something about it at the end of the game.

    Go Broncooos!

  12. TheRoyalBeast says:

    Hey Coop,

Glad Marshall finally showed his critics he could still play. Sure they always questioned his character but they were almost starting to question his skills as well. Now they both seem on the up and up and thats all we can ask for.

Ill agree with Monodono on the whole lopsidedness. U usually want more runs than passes if any would over power the other especially if your qb isnt a gun slinger (not orton bashing, just stating facts). The very first drive we had about 5 opportunities in their 5 and we ran all the time. sure the run was working but they knew that and they dont fear our QB. We shoulda play actioned like he said, or ran the quick sheffler slant we did earlier in the year. either way, the next time we got that close, we passed to Marshall and it worked cuz they weren’t expecting it.

Other than that, Oline was solid. Clady could break the no sack allowed record this week. front 7 did their thing agaisnt the raiders and brought down b Jamarcuss Russel. Running game was in full effect, probably why we are 4th in the league but that passing…..its enough but its JUST enough in my book. Need peopel to fear the pass like they would the run. We are like complete opposite of last year. This year we go Stronger Def than off. Opponents who fear the run instead of the pass. complete turn around. But im happy with where we are and we are steadily improving. Its funny that we get back to shanny football after welll, shanny is gone lol. Run them into the ground and open up the passing game. Just need more play Actions in my opinion. great post as always coop.

THE SEASON IS OURS FOR THE TAKING
    GO BRONCOS!!!

  13. kearly37 says:

Any time you can run up 200+ on the ground and basically grind the other teams d-line into the dirt, I’m all for it. Besides, when you’re up 20 you don’t really need to be throwing all that much — especially when the o-line can blow them off the ball and the backs are hitting the holes hard.

Kudos to both Knowshon and Buck for running hard and making the most of every play. Glad to see that Marshall is working hard and playing smart, too. Orton is doing just enough at this point, but I seem to recall that it took Matt Cassell about 5-6 weeks before the Pats offense really started clicking last year (and then look what they did to us). The fact that he’s making the right adjustments at the line is really starting to make me think that he’s got the goods. Every time I see him change the play and they rip off a big chunk I start to think of all those times we’ve watched Manning and Brady do it.

    As for the D…

Can I just say that I think I’m in love? Best pickups of the offseason had to be Dawkins, Goody and Hill (and Coach Nolan!). Nolan is really getting them to play together and set the tone early — which is why I absolutely LOVED the choice to defer after winning the coin toss. Best thing about our D — they’ve got a LOT of guys who are great leaders. Dawk, Champ, Davis, DJ, Woodyard…they’re always talking, picking guys up, getting everyone on the same page and then they all line up and fly around making plays. Can’t wait to see Doom & Co. beat up Romo and make him throw us a few picks this week.

    GO BRONCOS!!!

  14. South Stands says:

I am with you bronco-blaze. I agree we need to stay loyal to this team and coaching staff. I have always been impressed with Josh. He brought in talented coaches and kept a couple key coaches from Shanahan’s staff. He signed several talented free agents and cut players (mostly on the defensive side of the ball) that really didn’t have the talent to be in the league. He drafted a good group of young players. And now the coaching staff is creative in developing winning game plans. As we expected the team is improving every week. Should be a fun year and exciting times ahead. I will stay with this team, and support the team even when bad games come.

    Go broncos!!

  15. azbronc4life says:

    WOW monodono.

As I was reading the posts, as I do prior to posting myself, I read yours. And was pretty close to what i was already thinking of posting. lol. I was thinking a key to the Dallas game is to really get the TE’s involved. Dallas’s LB’s is probably the weak point in their D. and if we use our TE’s to cause problems underneath it will open up alot of other Offensive attacks for us, maybe even the running game. Also they wont gameplan for our TE’s because we havent really utilized them as of yet. Just my thoughts.

    GO BRONCS!!

  16. oldsouthstander says:

When you look around the other NFL teams and see which McD cuts are playing for them and in what role you realize how correct he was in all of his decisions to cut folks. Not a single cut is making a major contribution to another NFL team.
While the Broncos will have the advantage of not having played Monday night as the Cowboys did, this is not going to be an easy game. Cowboys have above average backs, TE and DL. It could be a real barn burner. If we can hold them to 17 or less, the game should be ours.

  17. TheRoyalBeast says:

At least its looking like both Barber and Jones are gonna be out. So its up to tashard choice that destroyed the Panthers…..I would like to believe we have a better Run Def than Carolina. Not to mention We kept McFadden and Bush in check, a pretty darn decent 1,2 punch. Keeping just choice for the most part in check should be very doable.

  18. broncos20 says:

GUARANTEE, DOOOM will get 2 more…He is feelin’ it out there..

  19. monodono says:

whitebronco#1, You ever notice when a new player goes to the raiders they become more dirty? Just an observation over the years. COOP! You ever notice that?

azbronc4life and whitebronco#1, I wouldn’t even mind if The Broncos went with three TE’s if it meant cracking the end zone. But we got to utilize that play action in the red zone.

    TIME OF POSSESSION ! ! !

I’m pleased and while I’m surprised at the defensive stats, I am not shocked at the team playing well and showing what they’re all about. Many Cowgirls fans nationwide need to be humbled, so let’s take it to them. dre bly starting and making a contribution are 2 different things…the 49ers are ranked 24 against the pass. We’re ranked #2 in that category. Even better the cowboys are ranked #27 in that category…17th against the run. We’re gonna kick thier asses too.

See you all in the South Stands on Sunday!!!!

Im looking foward to this win i now live in houston tx. not a bad town but not north denver either… Anyway big game for me i know alot of cowboy fans , the bronco D looks better then dallas and orton looks like he has more control then cutler ever has. I dont remember cutler ever winning 4 in arow… big game across the board. GO BRONCOS and agree on BDAWK GOODIE AND HILL !!! 1 last thing coach McDainals has a look in his eye that i can see he lives to coach big props to our great owner nice job Pat, he did it again.

  25. 47rocksurworld says:

I know it is still early in the season but hats off to Mr. Bowlen for making the right choice for getting McDaniels. Then hats off to McDaniels for making the right choices on the rest of the coaches. Hard to believe that Shanahan didn’t want to get rid of his D coordinator after the horrible defense the Broncos have had the last few years. It is all about game planning and matching what your team does best against what the opposing team doesn’t do well. Shanahan had started to lose the edge in that department which is why I believe that the Broncos would start out well and by the time the season was half over they weren’t nearly as effective. The most important part is that for the first time in years the Broncos are playing as a team, and finishing the plays on defense. Player accountability along with doing your assingment and trusting your team mate to do his job is what is making the Broncos successful at this time!

  26. OrangeHush says:

I absolutely love our defense!! I agree with many of the comments made by everyone. I think we have a really tough 2 months ahead of us, but I like how we aren’t downplaying the importance of that just because we are 3-0. The critics are still saying we are the worst 3-0 team (I don’t get that one, especially with how we rank on all sides of the ball) but it hasn’t really affected the team morale. I like the progress that our offense is making week to week. Orton isn’t the flashy type, but he plays smart football and hasn’t had an interception yet. It’s going to take them a bit longer to adjust to a new system, but I think we have amazing talent on the team with the passion and heart to win week to week even in the toughest of situations. It’s great to see such enthusiasm within the offense again. And I can’t wait until Orton can play without the glove!! Let’s show the Cowgirls what we are made of. GO BRCONOS!!!!!

  27. thundersrevenge says:

After reading everyones posts I’ve come to the conclusion that McD is more crafty than we all are allowed to see on a week to week basis.

Monodono- youre absolutely right about the PA. We would have scored 28 more points in the last two weeks if we had been using it……but……this is my guess…….I think that McD has a “game plan” beyond the weekly gameplan that says to not use the same tricks every week. My guess is that we are going to see PA in the “big” games like pittsburgh and new england because they are going to be watching this seasons film of the broncos and they won’t see a play action in the first several games. Just a small trick but i have suspicion that there are others like that in the waiting. (End around, bootleg, fumblerooski….etc)
All of these teams we will face have seen these plays, but when your studying game film all week and expect a certain scheme….then it changes in game on you……waa la…..Broncos are scoring on you.

We’ll see if I’m right or wrong.

    Go Broncos!!!!!

  28. Crush Arizona says:

great post COOP and this is what I think, Orton looks pretty good I liked the way he threw the ball OofB instead of taking a coverage sack that shows real maturity I would like to see him more comfy in the pocket the O line can and must do better though they are pretty good…Its the red zone that seems to be our Achillies heel and I cant for the life of me think why Hillis keeps trying to move a pile when he ccan bounce it outside and only have to beat what one or two guys instead of six or eight. Clady keep your cool and dont let the OPFOR get under your skin( you could have got ejected against the Faiders when you lost your cool and got in the reffs face, that would have been a disaster cause you da big cat man) I would like to see the recievers making some better blocks and maybe we could get more on the outside rushing Marshal is a big guy and so are our tightends….sell out and seal the edges and Americas Scream wont have an answere dont and look for a long day against Dallas because the middle is where they make thier bread and butter and as for that D could weapon X hit any harder? Sheeees I can only say Shades of Atwater my god this guy is a brute and everybody’s afraid to throw to Champ’s side….So you get picked on the other side looks like the Crush is Back…….WE DA ORANGE CRUSHH!!!! GET READY FOR SOME HURTIN BOMBS!!!

Back…..long week at the end of the month in real estate I was fire fighting and hand holding deals to the closing table and kept thinking all week I need to get a comment in.

Sorry, good stats from raidrhadr and Mondono and many others so we’ll see which Cowgirl team (O7elway) shows up. :o)

Was at my littlest guys flag game this morning early and was discussing with Jim Lynch a good buddy and the coach how Romo’s starting to get the rap of playng down or being the QB that your not sure which one’s going to show up at the game.

I like him but I hope the “other” shows today. Like you’ve all said the coming weeks will be ALL proving but I love the start and the enthusiasm and recklessness on the field that we missed last year and many of you pointed it out which actually may have been as much confusion as it was effort.

This “D” is different all around and filling the right gaps to date.

azbronc4life, you make a great point beacuse that’s how Pat’s beat the Bills a few weeks back, they did exactly that…… spread the field…dinking then outside all day then threw to the TE down the middle for 2 scores. Great observation.

O.K. I can’t leave this blog without talking about the U. BIG GAME tonight…..under the lights…….wish my boys luck as they face OU in the OB, now called Landshark Stadium……..I’m still mourning the tear down of the original Orange Bowl :o( …can you tell…….wierd……..played some high school games there and my entire college career….watch my 1st NFL game there as a little guy.

    Love Doak Walker, nice link.
