Off-Season Moves

With Henry gone, we have:

Selvin Young
Michael Pittman
Ryan Torian
Andre Hall
Anthony Aldridge

Plenty of depth and ability in that crew. I like the group. What do you guys think? Thumbs up or thumbs down. I agree with Mike. Sometimes you have to cut your losses. We have the depth, and if we can keep healthy this year, we should make some progress on last season’s record.

Agree with Mike. Young performs at the same level of Henry for a lot less money and without any of the hassles.

  2. cbracken2 Says:

    Hi Mark,
I wholeheartidly think that this was the right move. Releasing a guy with that bad of a record for marajuana is the right thing to do. I think Selving will do an awesome job starting for us and Micheal Pittman as a third down back. Andre Hall is a good change of pace back and Anthony Aldridge has amazing speed. I think this could be the difference make to get us back in the playoffs.

  3. rustycletis Says:

I’m glad we let Henry go. Injuries aside, I don’t like having players with too many issues. Henry had a lot of chances in Buffalo and Tennessee, but he still didn’t learn from those opportunities. Coming to Denver gave him a new chance, yet he still didn’t do everything in his power to make the most of it.
I like our backs that are left. I especially like Young. Pittman and Toraine run strong and I think they will compliment Young well, especially near the goal line. I just hope Young can stay healthy and improve his blocking and catching skills.

  4. rst08tierney Says:

I do think it was the right move if Mike actually thinks Torain,Hall and Aldridge can produce more then Travis could.

Even with Selvin marketing for a 2k season, as a fan I would like to see some vet. stability when week one comes around by having Pittman get the start over the group.

I do like brining in someone of Pittmans size and power for our goal line sets. Look for the broncos to put up 75% more touchdowns in the red zone this season.

  5. emaldo Says:

you know, that dude Henry had all the chances in the world to become a good good back maybe even great….but for some reason some guys don’t jump at the opportunities given to them (i.e Maurice Clarett)….but its okay, if its one position we don’t have worry about its at the rb position….in Denver and in Denver only we have found that an avg guy in a good offense can be good and effective, and a good back can become great here….Henry missed his chance, but I guarantee 1 out of the 3 or 4 backs we have will step up and take advantage of Shanny’s fairness, realistically Pittman and Young will receive 80-90% of the rb carries this year with Young receiving 65-70% of those….no need to worry my friends we will be alright at rb we all know that….

  6. lynch4prez Says:

I think sky’s the limit for Young if he continues to work at getting better. He runs with a lot of heart and is fun to watch. Love the signing of Pittman. I think we’re gonna be a top 10 run offence this year, but if we want to get into top 5 like we’re used to its all on the O-line, optimistic but still questionable. Look for Cutler to florish now that he’s in his 3rd year and getting his weight and strength back.
Also, does anyone know what the deal with Al Wilson is last i heard was he was clear to play and worked out with the Lions but thats it.

  7. Daily Links - Henry’s Release Had Warning Signs - BroncoTalk Says:

[…] right, Mr. Cooper.  It’s easy to forget about Mike Bell.  […]

  8. rst08tierney Says:

Whos Mike Bell? Last I saw some announcer drew a dog house over him and poof he was gone

  9. tcron1971 Says:

I like the move not because of the obvious reasons. The less obvious is that it sends a message to the young guys on the team. The message is that you must perform on this team in order to stay on the team. That is a lesson that can be learned from someone else’s mistake.

  10. 2Bailey4 Says:

I like the release of Henry, in fact I think they never should have signed him. I wish they would have traded for Willis McGahee instead. But now I’m worried because the only REAL veteran RB we have is Pittman. And he was past his prime years ago. I would have liked to see them pick up an RB sooner in the draft than they did. Or pick up someone in Free Agency.
But I guess we will see. Young needs to have a breakout year. And be more consistent on a week to week basis.

  11. ramboskithefan Says:

I like the release of Henry also!! He had his moments early on with awsome stiff arms….but he doesnt have very good judgement, Just go ask his nine baby mamma’s. Anyways….Look for Jay to go over the 4,000 yard mark passing this year. The running back problem is no problem, Young has the talent to do sumthin great. He left some big runs out on the field last year! Hall also shows great speed with decent size!! Aldridge is fast and skillfull…but really small!! Shanny looks at Torain with the same eye he had for TD….big, decent speed, and good cut backs!! hopefully with this the offense can be more productive!!

Willis McGahee PLEase!!! he doesnt fit what we do!! Kevin Jones is better than that!!

  12. rustycletis Says:

I like the way the offense sounds on paper, but I am still worried about play calling. If our guys perform like they should this could be a scary offense. The O-line should be more solid with Clady and also with Hamilton and Nalen back. Our running backs look good too, but we need consistency. Cutler is solid if we can keep him healthy. To be honest, I think he has done an amazing job so far with all the inconsistent play we have had a running back, tight end, and receiver. Injuries have been a huge problem at those areas too, so I think Cutler is doing really well. Brandon Marshall has the potential to be great, but he too needs to become more consistent. His final numbers were good last year, but he was streaky. We need more consistency from him and we need our new receivers to make plays. It can’t just be Brandon or it is going to be a long season. I like the Eddie Royal pick just because of his quickness. He won’t start, but he could be a nice 4th receiver behind Marshal, Colbert, and Stokely. Like I said, the biggest worry isn’t the talent but the play calling. Mike Shannahan does a good job, but since Gary Kubiak left the offense has been much more predictable.

The defense is my biggest concern. I hate to say it, but I don’t think Lynch should be our stong safety anymore. He has had too many injuries and he lacks the skills to cover as well as he used too. I would rather see a new guy start that may be a bit more durable. We need consistency of play and that doesn’t happen when the starting lineup is changed so much because of injuries. I like what we did at Linebacker, especially moving DJ away from MLB. He is a great player when he plays the right position. Corners are good, especially Champ. I wouldn’t mind seeing Foxworth get some more time over Dre. Bly is good, but I feel like he struggles near the end of games. I don’t know if it is his focus or fatigue, but giving Foxworth more time throughout would keep Dre fresh and also give us more depth in case of injuries. The question mark above all question marks is always the defensive line. Who will step up? Will Elvis be more consistent against the run like he is as a pass rusher? Will Moss rebound from his injury and prove he is a playmaker? Is Robertson knee worth anything? I hate to say it, but it looks like our whole season will likely come down to our front four on defense. If we cannot consistently get a push against the pass and the run, it won’t matter what else we do. In years past, we give too much time to opposing QBs. We can make mediocre passers look like Joe Montana (Vince Young as one example). As I have said, I like almost everything we have done this offseason. However, I still am not confident in our D-line. Please prove me wrong guys.

  13. BroncosFan973 Says:

Eddie Royal is better right now than Keary Colbert

  14. cfact Says:

i agree with shanny if players on the team arnt going to do the little things like pick up blocks, study the play book, etc… then they shldnt be on the team its just like a job, if u dont do everthing then you get fired. we need hard working guys that will go the extra mile to get to the SUPER BOWL… and win it. where player and fan can unite in the “WE DID IT” feeling.

TALENT ISNT EVERYTHING…. WE NEED TEAM PLAYERS NOT INDAVISULS.

  15. lynch4prez Says:

I agree, Eddie Royal is better than Colbert right now, and i think DJack would be ahead of him too.
Have to disagree on your lynch comments rustycletis.. 1) he’s our best safety 2) he’s a leader and runs the defence 3) he’s football smart and has awareness on the field like few others.. bottom line, if he’s healthy he’s going to be on the field

  16. broncosrule20 Says:

    Mike is right.
I really like the young talent that is in this group. Young was outstanding in the season and Bell was productive last year in the backfield. Pittman provides leadership and experiance for the young backs and should be a very good short yardage and third down back with his size. I also like what i have seen of Torain in college and his play at camp.

  17. mark_cooper Says:

Glad you all agree. Football’s a lot like life, if you take care of the little things the big things have a tendency to fall in place. Heck, we preach that probably everyday to our kids, all the way through school and afterwards. I remember hearing my father tell me the same thing……….remember?

Mike was the offensive coordinator when I was there and we all loved him. He’s a players coach that you really want to play for. He stuck in there and backed Travis during the tough times. I applaud him for making a decision that’s in the best interest of the organization.

I was pumped when I saw the Pittman signing. I like him, he’s a warrior.

  18. orangecrush44 Says:

    Andre Hall!!!!!Give him a chance

  19. cfact Says:

We can sit here and talk about the offence all day but the biggest concern is our D it was horrible last year its not all about talent its about the system to and the players buying into it and trusting it and each other.

A great man said once “D wins champsionships offence wins games.” sooo keep that in mind this season and well every season we will go only as far as the D will take us.

Dont get me wrong i know we need to out score teams to but that is not something i want to risk every game, anything can happen in those games.

  20. bronncohowie Says:

I like our rbs. PIttman will add a veteran presence. Selvin & Andre are both very talented and can split the load. Torain was an awesome back before he got hurt and Aldridge is a real sleeper. It all depends on how good the oline blocks. If the cutback lanes are there, no problem at all. Go Broncos !!

  21. m.c. the great Says:

WOW i cant believe the lack of footbal smarts im hearing from some people. START MICHAEL PITTMAN!!!! are you serious are we forgeting that the only game he was productfulin in was that one super bowl game he was garbage the entire year. And by the end of camp he will e seen for what he really is, bench shade. ill go and say he dosnt make the rosteer for the season opener.

Im feeling Julius Jones coming to Denver some how some way i got that feeling

  22. Terrel Davis is da man Says:

The broncos are in the right by beridding travis henry and i think they should get one back with experience like a former mvp whos stayed out of trouble. Shuan Alexander

  23. Terrel Davis is da man Says:

I would agree with m.c but julius jones sighned with seattle when seattle beridded shuan alexander

  24. jazzyfrizzle Says:

I agree with some stuff that is being said.
BUT, Darrell Jackson will be the number two reciever to start the season. Michael Pittman will make the roster because we hired him as a veteran with some power and experience. And Selvin Young will be #1 on the depth chart. No way no how will julius jones come to Denver. We dont need him, because our guys are better. We have what we need to get er done.

  25. broncos14441 Says:

    Mr. Cooper,
I agree when you say we have alot of depth on our roster, but in my opinion, Travis Henry should be in Denver. Yes, the Broncos have a back for many situations: Young as an explosive 1st and 2nd down back, Pittman as a shortyardege or 3rd down back, and Hall as an all around back-up that could fill either roll if an injury occurs. Sounds good, but the only thing we lack is a proven player. Selvin Young and Andre Hall are very new to the league and Pittman is in his 10th year and has never had a thousand yard season. Henry on the other hand is only in his 7th season and hsa already had 3 thousand yard seasons. So before I finish my response, I will answer the question thumbs up or thumbs down with a hesetent thumbs up. :/

  26. broncos14441 Says:

dang! I proof read that twice! sorry for the grammer mistake. (line 9; *has)

  27. luthcutus Says:

I like our running backs, but I don’t know how we can feel confident in a group of guys that are unproven. It’s not a knock on them, they haven’t had the opportunity, they will this season. They need to prove that they can stay healthy, and be counted on in the crunch. I have to believe that coach Shanahan, if anyone, will get the most out of these guys. The bigger question is, will our defence be able to stop the oppositions running backs. If they do, we’ll have a chance at the playoffs, if not, it’s another losing season.

  28. BroncosFan973 Says:

    -broncosfan14441-
You have bigger problems than grammar. When you mangle the word hesitant into hesetent, pick up the dictionary (these tomes of linguistic knowledge that delight the brain can be found in any bookstore on earth) or else read. It’s a useful skill. (That is literacy and spelling.)

  29. RonaldBailey24 Says:

I agree that releasing Travis Henry was a good idea because he barely played for us and his injury is not getting any better. But I don’t think any of these other guys can step up to be a 1000 plus yards runner. The only guy even close is Selvin Young because he is young and knows the offense better than any of these other guys

  30. BradJamesBroncoFan Says:

Of course I agree with this move, Cooper. When Michael Pittman is one of your chief competitors, it’s an easy decision to cut a player like Henry who has brought more embarrassment than anything else. Obviously, Selvin Young will be the feature back at this juncture, I believe, but Pittman, Torrain, and my favorite one, Andre Hall, should produce plenty of success. Of course, our fortunes hinge on Jay Culter’s continual progression, so in that vein of thought, I think we’re ready to excel. Nice job, Broncos. Many decisions this offseason have been excellent and Shanahan didn’t deter from that with how he handled Henry.

  31. Myke J0 Says:

Sorry guys, I dont like the move. Travis Henry is the perfect style of running back for us on the field, if healthy we would have made the playoffs. We would have lost 1st round but made the playoffs none the less. All you guys dogged Travis from the start and he only had one injury riddled season (leading rusher in the nfl before getting hurt) We dont have anyone close to the caliber of a Travis Henry, we are in BIG trouble at rb.

  32. JimTaylor Says:

    Myke,

Acctualy he had a few seasons where he was injured. It was part of the reason Buffalo got rid of him. And its not only the injury. Its the off-field things like this year where if not for the NFL breaking a rule he would have been gone for a year.

  33. BlueandOrangeHawkeye Says:

It seems to me uncharacteristic of Mike to actually say a player as high profile as Travis Henry wasn’t sufficiently ‘committed’ to the team. I think it’s really bold and a great move. As is Travis Henry, really, seemed kind of like the go-ahead starter, he’s high dollar and the vet you can go with conservatively. Now there are several very talented backs who are competing for an opportunity to have a 2000 yard season instead of a chance at backing up a 1600 yard starter, so as I see it, this provides tremendous incentive to Selvin, Hall, Pittman, Torian, Aldridge, and [hopefully] Mike Bell to make it happen.

I don’t know, maybe it’s because I was always a little sad last season when someone other than Selvin was rushing and every time he WAS in I got that excited feeling like something big and unexpected had the potential to happen. Although it seems like Andre Hall had a wicked run in one of the later games last season that was one of those iconic runs like Ruben Droughns in the Thanksgiving game in 2006.

So good move, it will improve the other backs who it may well have come down to anyway if Henry got hurt or in trouble, bold kind of thing I’m not used to from Shanahan these days giving me hope, and Rod Smith should be forced to coach receivers according to or contrary to his will, Soviet style, because … it would be like having Einstein as your Elementary Physics TA.

  34. imready Says:

Shanny got rid of T. Henry because he wasn’t doing the type of things needed to win a Superbowl. I don’t think he would do that if he wasn’t confident in the players he has in his backfield. He must really be impressed with Torain. He has stated before that he didn’t see Hall and Young as every down backs, to me they are kind of like tag team backs. Both very effective when they were in the game, similiar styles and determination. If Selvin put on some weight as mentioned in an earlier post he might make it as starter but I think Shanny has seen something he really likes in Torain and I wouldn’t be a bit suprised if he emerged as the starting RB this coming season. Is Pittman a good blocker? Might be a good 3rd down back if he can catch the ball. I don’t ever worry about the backfield with Shanny at the helm , he can really sniff out RB’s that can perform in his offense.

  35. BroncosFan973 Says:

do you mean Ron Dayne’s run during thanksgiving.

  36. bigvon Says:

I will say it a gain great move, Good Bye Henry.

I think Young will Start and Torain will spell him with Hall as our back up. Pitt man is a great addition and will move over to FB with Sapp He is a great block and should get the start there do a fantastic job seeing as though he has great hands and excellent blocking abilities.

D Jack will be our number 2 reciver when the dust clears and we and Marshall will do great things together with a choice of stokley or Royal manning the slot.

I think unless Young or Torain have a statement making year this year. We will address the RB position next year with a proven player. Think about it we have no RB on a long term committed contract now, soo we can rebuild next year if Shanny doesnt get the production he wants. We as fans dont see what our coaches see in the players so we have to trust our staff and let them do their jobs.

Good news is if they fail this year, we literally have a clean slate next year. I personally think we will be ok.

  37. columbusOHbronco Says:

I hope selvin can handle the load this year but if he cant then we need to go to rb by committy and next year take a rb in the first round “beanie wells.” I like the fact that we have been plugging in rb the last few years but its time to get that premier back that will run the rock for us for next 6 to 8 years. Also if niko doesnt work out we should look at a mlb in first couple of rounds “james lauranitus”. once we sure up those 2 spots and hopefully we already did this team will dominate the afc west and make a run for the super bowl. P.S. go buckeyes

  38. lynch4prez Says:

I agree with imready, Shanny must see something in the players we have, and if you look in the past, he’s always been able to find someone that fits what we run. You can go back as far as TD.. then you’ll see names like Gary, Anderson, Portis, Bell. All are just shadows of what they were with the Broncos, you can make an argument for Portis but he was better behind our system.. that being said, its not a player its the system. But if we could get a player behind our system he’ll be top 5 rusher in the league. So basically in my eyes we dont have a RB situation we just have a few players that could be gems.. which Henry wasnt

  39. jmonk Says:

i read somewhere young put on like 15 or 20 lbs but cant remember where. anybody else see that article or was i dreaming?

  40. emaldo Says:

Young put on an extra 7lbs, that was posted on one of the articles here on www.denverbroncos.com. Young will be the man, his speed, vision and elusivness is what is going to land him the starting job, you can’t coach that.

  41. emaldo Says:

Young put on an extra 7lbs, that was posted on one of the articles here on www.denverbroncos.com. Young will be the man his speed, vision and elusivness is what is going to land him the starting job, you can’t coach that.

  42. columbusOHbronco Says:

Health is the key at any position and any team to be successful in the nfl. the team that can stay some what healthy will always have a shot at the superbowl. i know this takes hard work and preporation but it also takes LUCK and we need some luck this year. that said if selvin stays healthy he can run for 1200 yrds this year. also did we jump the gun on colbert we signed him to a healthy sized contract and got d. jackson a month later for a third of that and everyone is saying he will start. so does that mean we will cut colbert before season starts or pay him big money to sit the bench?

  43. RonaldBailey24 Says:

How come Mike Bell is not in the mix? I know he changed to a fullback, but he had a pretty good year in his rookie year. He should be changed back into a runningback.

  44. BVilleBroncos Says:

Remember–who was our starting running back the year T.D. emerged as the started. Talk about unproven - he came out of nowhere.

  45. imready Says:

Another thing to think about when talking runningbacks is that more teams are basically using 2 backs as starters to keep them fresh throughout a game and the season. Makes me wonder when years ago Shanny started using 2 backs . Was that his plan and he was just letting people think he didn’t have a clear cut starter? Shanny is pretty sly, you can’t be as productive as he has been without a little cunning…..

  46. broncozx345 Says:

I aggree, getting Travis Henry out of there was a good idea. Shanny is proving he can take care of the team(as if he already hasn’t)? I think if Selvin can prove to be a every-down-player, we will be fine. If he can’t, either Pittman or Torrain will start. I would like to see Pittman as a short-yardage back, like down near the goal line. Maybe Torrain or Allridge as the 3rd down back. I also wonder, WHERE IS MIKE BELL. Remember the COLTS GAME, MIKE ALMOST WON IT FOR THEM, but then again, keyword almost. Any runningback can be STINKEN’ Awsome in Denver, if he proves himself on and off the field, something Henry obviously couldn’t do. Shanny gave him chance after chance, sometimes you just have to cut a man loose. Anyway, Mike Bell should be there too, I feel. If Selvin proves himself, lokk for maybe 1200, 1300 yards from him. WE GOTTA HAVE FAITH, but it also depends on the defense. I aggree that the front four needs to be consistent for us to win. I think Lynch will start, but come out on 3rd down, replaced by Hamza or Mecree. BRONCOS ALL THE WAY!!!

  47. broncozx345 Says:

Oh, and Cutler is really A CUT ABOVE.

  48. m.c. the great Says:

If none of the guys on our roster dont have a break out year, Shanny is gona have to bite the bullet and spend a top pick on a RB. Weve drafted a #1 pick at every position except for RB. Mikes genuis is on the verge of arrogance, and there is no place for arrogance in football. Its a great system but sports is players not plays, when u think u can win with any one because your system is so great, then you start running in to problems.

  49. superchop7 Says:

    Think about it.

We talk about character and the guy is a habitual woman beater.

Better yet, what does it say to the women that are Bronco fans ?

    He disgraced the Cardinals.

    He disgraced the Bucs.

Now he’s going to do it here.

This reminds me of Clarett, people see “only” what they want to see, then they get a dose of reality.

This is a trainwreck about to happen.

  50. jazzyfrizzle Says:

hey superchop7, what are you talking about? Kinda confusing, would guess you are talking about henry, but he disgraced the titans and bills. We just made a wise move. Go Broncos!

  51. Da Bronc Boy Says:

    thr Broncos

  52. Da Bronc Boy Says:

The Broncos will win the West this year. I believe this because we addressed the areas that needed help and we brought in the neccessary players to make our team much better form the draft and free-agency. Robertson will shine this year for us because the JETS weren’t using him properly at all and he couldn’t perform the way he is able to. Thet (JETS) uses the 3-4 defense which hindered Robertson. He is a 4-3 tackle and will show everyone what he can do this year. He is excited to be playing in this system and can’t wait to prooduce for us ( The BRONCOS ).Marcus Thomas was playing out of shape last year . He wasn’t expecting to play football last year since he was put off of the team at Florida. He didn’t think any team would take a chance with him because of the problems he had while at Florida so when he was released, he stopped practicing, and stopped working out. He was in terrible shape when he got drafted and really wasn’t prepared to be playing football. he was out of football for nearly a year prior to being drafted. Now he has been practicing and playing for a year and feels great. His conditioning is very good, his stregnth is wonderful, his quickness is almost back and his comfort with the game is near where it use to be. He is more comfortable with the scheme and he’s reacting without having to think much. He along with Robertson will bolster our mid-front and will make ouur run Defense 3 times better than it was last year. Dumerville should start along with either Moss or Ekuban. The front four will rank in the top 10 this season no doubt, may-be even top 5. The improvement to the front four will help the linebackers not to mention moving D.J. back to the wil position where he killed his rookie campaign. Boss Bailey at the sam position is an improvement . He is use to that position and his speed will allow him to cover any T.E. out there . The mike position is a question for me but I do believe NIKO will do a great job there. He was back up in Seattle behind a Pro-Bowler and knows the position very well . I trust Shanahan’s decision to bring him here and to start him in our Defense .He will be protected by our tackles anyway so he should be able to dominate the way Ray Lewis did here in Baltimore when we had Sam Aadams and Tony Siragusa . I am not saying Niko is a Ray Lewis but being protected by tackles will allow him to fly around and make plays . The strongest unit now…..The Defensive Backfield . It’s no secret that we have one of the top tandems in the league and that was without a good D-Line . We will rank amongst the top 3 now that we have a very good D-Line . Lynch has been working more and harder than ever to win the strong safety spot and to prove that he still “has it” and is Pro-Bowl worthy . He is very disappointed and hurt because of people wanting him to retire and say that he doesn’t “have it” any-more and can’t cover . He say he will prove every-one that thinks that wrong and he knows his time has not come and gone . He also say that the competition on the Defense is fierse and that every player that starts on the 2008-2009 Denver Broncos will have earned that spot . Lynch say that this is the best team he’s seen since he’s been here . The BRONCOS WILL WIN the WEST !!!!!!BRONCOS WILL WIN the WEST in 2008-2009. The Chargers reign is over and it is the BRONCOS time NOW. Get on the boat now if you want to be on the winning Team !

  53. jazzyfrizzle Says:

Love the positive outlook and confidence. That is how I feel, and that is just the defense. Our offensive will be much improved too. No crybaby receiver, better and healthier o-line. An abundance of talented wide receivers. Selvin young should be a beast with a good o-line, look what he did with our not so good o-line. A healthier stronger QB. And no more distractions with a troubled runningback.

  54. Terrel Davis is da man Says:

I agree with the decision as i said before but I still think instead of Pittman We should have invested in Shuan Alexander with his speed and power he is a great fit.

  55. ocbroncos Says:

The best group of RB’s I can recall in quite some time. I think we have to wait and see who will carry the rock but for now I have to agree Selvin Young has the stuff to be the starter. The four behind him are all very skilled and talented I’m curious to see if we can keep all five? If we put either Torain or Alridge on the practice squad I’m afraid we’ll lose them. I’m excited about Alridge pushing Eddie Royal on Punt & Kick-off returns. Can’t wait for the first preseason game.

  56. m.c. the great Says:

shaun alexander would be the worst back to ever put on a denver uniform. He’s big and has good vision but he tip toes isnt the best receiving option, dosnt run with power cant break takles did i mention slow, and old i mean when old running backs loose what made them good theres no coming back. Its not like a 25 year old who can reinvent themselfs like thomas jones shaun is done

And lets calm down these coments about winning the AFC east, the chargers are heavy favorites as they should be didnt they go undefeated in the division and by mostly blow outs…. or was it just us that they turned into their personal whipping boy

  57. ramboskithefan Says:

shaun alexander would have been awsome in the system..right out of college… he ran perfect for that…but now he sucks!! anyways…..give the running back job to YOUng or Hall and unless torain comes thru like TD and steals the show…..but we had a much better O line back then too….this years O line might cause us sum issues!! hope not!! 1

  58. oldsouthstander Says:

Have I missed something? I don’t remember any stories about any of the Broncos 2008 draft picks being signed. Are they just not swetting it or do holdouts loom on the horizon? I certainly hope that none of the holdout. They can’t afford to miss any training camp time.

  59. Broncostildadayidie Says:

We need to start honing a feature back. That guy is Selvin Young or Ryan Torain, forget about the others, we don’t need alot of backs if we have one great one. Look at the chargers, you hear about LT or Michael Turner(now a Falcon), or the chiefs with LJ or Priest Holmes, the great rushing teams don’t need alot of mediocre backs when they have a great one or franchise back. The team needs to pick the back of the future kind of like how they chose Jay Cutler to be the franchise quarterback. Again, the guy is Selvin Young or Ryan Torain, the rest of those backs will never have 1000 yard rushing seasons, lets be realistic.

  60. Broncobailey99 Says:

I agree that the future back will be Young or Torain… but you cant just eliminate Hall or Aldrige because you havent seen them in NFL pads (Hall =not enough/ Aldrige =not at all) So i think come the 2nd week or so of regular season is when we’ll find our franchise running back

  61. Broncosfanatic4 Says:

    M.C. The Uselees

Please go jump off a cliff lots of fans get on here to have positive conversation with fans of like minds, if you just want to trash the team use seem to cheer then change the tude otherwise go chill with the raiders or chiefs fans you uncle tom.

  62. superchop7 Says:

What am I talking about ??

I’m talking about a habitual woman beater.

His ex said that he physically abused her 30-40 times.

Everywhere he goes, he beats women, he loses his job, gets sent out of town.

Everyone that knows me “knows” I will give a man a break on his first offense, from there……better walk the straight and narrow.

This man is a repeat offender…….big time.

He doesn’t deserve the planet, much less a Bronco uniform.

  63. superchop7 Says:

P.S. I am very happy with the young men (RB) on this squad, they deserve a shot, this guy doesn’t.

  64. Cisco24 Says:

Well I have to say I was happy to see Travis go. I was actually happy to see him hurt last year. It made way for Selvin to showcase his skills. And if nothing else, he impressed me.

Now what I think will happen this year is hard because there is a lot of talent. But I do believe Selvin Young will start. He was meant for Denvers zone-blocking scheme. I don’t think he’s the next Terrell Davis, but I hope I eat my words. Also I’m excited to see what Ryan Torrain can bring to the team. Andre we all know is very talented so he might breakout this year and who knows, maybe Pittman will flourish in Denver but only time will tell.

All we can do is put our trust in Shanahan, he can get us there again!!!

  65. m.c. the great Says:

hmmm go jump off a cliff.. thats real positive talk so now your adding hypocrite to that list of stupidity, lack of objectivity, and ignorance of facts.

What about last season says we need to be ra ra about the broncos, champ bailey got beat by second teir receivers…(bernard berrian) for a game winning touch down, dre bly got beat by a rookie, james jones for like a 50 yard fade route, thats 2 games we lost and for the most part at the hands of our “STELLAR SECONDARY”.

We scored 6 points in two games against the chargers is that somthing to celebrate, nope not to me, to me when in 2 games all you can get is 6 points on a team they’ve turned you into a whipping boy.

We split the series with the raiders and they’ve got better, as have we but is splitting a series wit a team that drafted in the top 5 any thing to brag about….. ummm im gona say no.

We got blown out by the lions and texans, two 8-8 teams.

how do you have a completly positive conversation about this team with facts like these to deal with. Is this how all u hippies think about every thing, annoy the facts refuse to be objective and keep that same train of thought

Im simply presenting facts how bout you and your happy thought hippies grow up and get out of your oarnge and blue fairy land and take a look at how where fitting in with the rest of the nfl. Im a real fan because i can look at the facts and still not loose any love or enthusiasm for the broncos and have hope that they will turn it around.

  66. jazzyfrizzle Says:

    ok superchop,
did my homework. all I was asking was who you were talking about in reference to a woman beater, because travis henry doesn’t seem to get along with his ladies, and I now know you are talking about Michael Pitman, who got arrested a few years back for ramming a car off the road…. a Benz, which had his wife in it. I didn’t know he played for the cardinals, but anyways, all that to say, you got a point….. hmmmmm.

  67. Broncobailey99 Says:

Ok this whole thing is getting out of hand… this is about running backs and who will get the role this coming year… not about a lady beater or like M.C. said basically “All the people that are excited about next season and are stoked that broncos have done a lot to get depth and now know that Jay had a problem last year that will be fixed and we now actually have a lot of people fighting for that starting role is [stupid] to be excited about…. Now im stoked about all that stuff… so im a hippie?…. Come on M.C. what are you talking about?

ANY WHO…. Young starts…. with Pittman and Torain doing stuff as the backs to sub in…. thats how it most likely will be… But wouldnt be suprised if Hall sparked or even Aldrige did some good stuff and got up there on the list…

  68. Cisco24 Says:

I think you hit it right on broncobailey, but the question i want to know is does anyone think we have a franchise running back in this group? if so, who continues on with the team as the starter after this year? I know its hard to say, i just want opinions. And m.c., how many players did we have on IR???? And Champ isn’t superman, he can’t do his best job if he has to constantly worry about the run? It will be way better this year!

  69. Broncfalls Says:

    Hey Cisco,

I think we do have a franchise RB. Actually we might have more than one. I think we’ve seen the Broncos make an attempt to find that main go to guy each year. However, those season’s usually ended in an injury to that main player. On the upside, because of that injury we filled in with a guy that gave great effort and did some nice things.

In the end we seemed to pile up on that #1 spot for the upcoming year. Meaning we had the #1 starter that got injured the year prior competiting with the guy that filled in for him.

You raise a good point. One I actually have thought of myself. When we’ll we see the injury free, hard, cut back runner we saw in TD. I’m not comparing our RB’s to TD but it seems like we’ve moved to RB by committee. Now is it by choice or circumstances.

We’ve got some real quality RB’s on this roster. I sometimes wonder which one flourishes if they get the reps? I don’t think it’s wrong to think Torain can be that guy. We also know Young is capable of doing some special things. I’m not sure. What I do know is Shanny is going to be doing great in the running game this year! I too though would like to see that 1 goto guy!

    Great question Cisco!

COOP, DAMN GOOD TO HEAR FORM YOU SIR!

    GO GET EM’ BOYS!

  70. BossTheHausBailey Says:

I think we’ve made some great off-season accusations, but we still have some spaces to fill. Let’s face it, Dre Bly and Domonique Foxworth can’t cover against good QB’s. (for instance, Brett Favre, monday night, BLY!)
What about picking up Ty Law? He’s a pretty good shut down corner who’s still on the free agent list. He’s had mostly great seasons his whole career, but no one seems to want him.
Next, I know the running game is gonna be great this year. Selvin should start with Pittman as a 4th and 1, goal line type of back. Hall and Torain should get an occasional carry on third and second downs.
Thirdly, how come everyone is ignoring Darrel Jackson? He’s had a way better career than Keary Colbert. Starting Wr’s- Marshall, Jackson, and Stokley. I think Marshall and Cutler are going to connect great this year and have an amazing season.
On special teams, I definately think Eddie Royal should be the number 1 KR, with Andre Hall as the number 2.
Linebackers, Boss is gonna be great. I think he has something to strive for now, cuz no one wants to hear that their brother is better than them. Not saying that he’s gonna be better than Champ, but has a possibility at Aloha.
Next, whoever said that crap about Lynch SHUT UP! you know he didnt have to come back this year, and he’d be way better than some rookie!
And MC, youre a gay retard! True fans dont say, MY TEAM’S GONNA SUCK LIKE LAST YEAR! you say you have optimism, YEAH RIGHT!

  71. m.c. the great Says:

boss shut the hell up, never did i say where gonna suck, I dont think were that bad, i think weve takin steps to improve our team and looking at the schedule and our team in an objective way i see at least 10 wins, we should at worst of all worst if a disaster happens and we loose to the patriots finish 9-7.

Now does 10 wins win you a division ummm if your in the afc east maybe. And theres no way of telling how much weve closed gap on the chargers untill we play them. I hope for a super bowl, i beleive jay cutler is the truth the light and the way, that some day he will get one. But to buy your tickets for the super bowl right now is just stupid.

There are a lot of questions that have to be answered: Will our run D improve or be like the last 2 years

Is Selvin young the answer at running back I hope so but i hoped tatum bell would be Clinton portis #2, but we see how that turned out.

    Can T schef stay healthy.

Will we finally be able to get pressure on the QB with out blitzing I think with the players added, and with the ones we have getting better and healthy, and with Elvis being Elvis i think that should happen, will the secondary perform to their potential, hopefully with better play up front well see secondary play un matched by past years. And if we played more bump and run more often which would play to bly strengths and champs as well. that could happen

Whos gona be our #2 receiver we gota boat load of #3’s but will any one step up and take the #2. Actually thats the least of our concerns if selvin steps up and sheffler stays healthy, and of course wit Marshall that should be enough.

And We have to get in the end zone we gota score touchdowns and stop settling for feild goals.

Im not saying that these things are gona make us a bad team, every team has issues, but if were gona take steps to get closer to the super bowl we gota address some of these things. im just saying lets at least get into training camp before we start submitin pro bowl votes.

  72. jmonk Says:

i wish people would lay off bly about that green bay game, am i the only 1 who remembers that he hurt his shoulder earlier in the game makeing an int? i know your shoulder doesnt stop you from running but ive had my shoulder dislocated a couple of times and when its bad enough it makes the rest of your body useless.

  73. jmonk Says:

im not saying i believe that bly is gonna make that play everytime if he wasnt hurt but i do think his mind was on the pain of his shoulder and not that he should have dropped back a bit because of that wr beeing faster. i think bly is in our system filling his role just right. hes no champ but hes not useless. the thing that kills me is i was watching something right befor the drat and they were saying how cromartie is 1 of the best cbs in the league right now and that hes better then champ. dont get me wrong the guy aint bad but just because you pick off maning a couple of times in the game doesnt put you in the weight class of a guy who can make it to the pro bowl off 3 ints and his name lol. any 1s thought?

  74. broncos14441 Says:

Dude, were on a blog. I just wanted to talk football and i don’t care that much so before you go writen stuff to offend people just think that were all just on here to have fun. Go Broncos!!!
    -broncosfan14441-

  75. Broncobailey99 Says:

Thanks Cisco for the agreement… And yes.. i do believe we have our franchise running back right know and we’ll soon find out who… but do we have a franchise RB like a TD or an Emmit?… and that will take a long time to tell but i sure hope we have a RB like that in this group… Only time will tell… but as of right know i think Young is our #1 guy right off the bat… but anything… absolutely anything can happen so I cant put my life on that

  76. jmonk Says:

i just read an article on espn.com with javon walker crying about the way denver used hims and how we didnt want him to be a part of the offense in the second half of the season and hes gonna show us what were missin. i cant wait to see champ shut him down on the monday night opener. im guessing hell end up with 3 catches maybe 20 yards if hes lucky and possibly a td if champ gets bored or has a cold or something

  77. Cisco24 Says:

m.c. you are absolutely right. But think of it this way. Every team has holes or ways to beat them. Every team is always trying to improve. Not just us.

I do believe you are right when it comes to pressuring the qb, it should be solid barring no injuries. I also think they need to mix up their strategies more and we will probably get that with Slowik. As far as the #2 WR, we need to have a deep threat receiver. Not saying B-Marsh can’t do it, but he has more uses than that.

I’m not saying we will win the superbowl. I do think we get a wild card and go to the afc semis at least. Then again that is just a prediction.

But right down to it, Selvin has the starting job to lose but regardless, we have a more solid line, (still unsure about the right side, but the left is good) so I think we will see the broncos running game on the rise the next few years until we are back where we belong.

Thanks for the comments broncfalls & broncobailey

  78. Cisco24 Says:

Ya! hahaha Walkers a joke, he’s whining to make himself sound like it wasn’t his fault or doesn’t have to blame it on his knee. What a punk, I can’t wait to see the raiders get trampled. It just sucked when warren sapp went there. I actually really like Sapp.

  79. jazzyfrizzle Says:

of coarse we didn’t want to use javon the second half of the season. No one wants a grown man who cry’s like a little girl on the field. I still remember an interview from last year where his bottom lip quivered when he was talking cuz he was about to breakdown. And to think, I ALMOST bought his jersey….. close one.

  80. BossTheHausBailey Says:

What’s wrong with u guys? Darrell Jackson had 10 TD’s just 2 yrs ago.
A number 3 rcvr? Dont think so! He’ll be the number 2 and have a pretty good year. Samie Parker and Colbert aren’t good enough to be a number 2, so Jackson has no competition besides Eddie Royal if he has a good rookie year. Royal will also be a great kick returner, I’m assuming atleast 3 KR TD’s.

  81. Broncobailey99 Says:

AGREED… Darrell Jackson = #2… Royall i dont think will play too much reicever this year but will focus more on returns… although i do think we’ll see royall a few times and especially in the future as a Reciever

  82. BossTheHausBailey Says:

Thank you Broncobailey, atleast someone agrees with me. It’s nice to know not everyone on this blog is a raider lover like M.C.

  83. jazzyfrizzle Says:

hey if you read in past blogs, i have been stating the same thing, jackson is the number two guy. Not many people seem to acknowledge that, but I just stopped talking about it because I think he will speak for himself when he gets on the field. Glad to hear you guys in agreement.

  84. m.c. the great Says:

Cisco Thats all i wanted people to realise, that other teams in this division have tried to make their teams better just like we have, you think the cheifs want to get pounded by us again next year no…. even though with brodie croyle its gona happen any way.

The only difference is which team was right about those “upgrades”

And boss you get better with each one, so now because im not blindly optimistic and i dont ignore facts that makes me a raiders fan, I hope your the only idiot on this blog.

And two questions one for any one who attended practesis the last 2 years:

Every time i watched a broncos parctice clip it was always cutler bootleg and walker beating champ deep, was this the norm or was it just walker got one on champ?

And another If we move DJ back to weak side that mean boss will have to play strong side and nothing about his days in detroit suggest strong side line backer, So would it be better to put DJ at strong and have boss play weak, which his speed and athletic ability is bettter suited for covering backs out the back feild, rather than stuffing the run on the strong side.

Or would leaving Dj at middle put boss on weak and the other guy at strong, be a better match up, i mean if you can play middle cant you play all 3 LB position, and since this K guy is supposed to be an answer at middle, but i know he wont be as good as DJ was move him to strong side, and let DJ turninto ray lewis #2 at middle

  85. BossTheHausBailey Says:

M.C., I’m glad that you said “i dont ignore facts”, because that just proves my point even more. DJ is much more comfortable at outside LB, which he has said before. Forcing him to play at a position he does not feel comfortable at would be ignorant. Say the chargers moved Merriman to MLB. Would he have a better season? I dont think so.
Secondly, the Lions never gave Boss a chance because they had their up-and-coming star in Ernie Sims. Boss was great at strong side in college when they gave him a chance, and the Broncos will be the same way.

  86. Broncobailey99 Says:

Thats a tough one M.C. … What i think is you should really keep D.J. outside, becaues thats where he is used to playing in college and the start of his NFL career. With the whole boss thing that is tough as well because he isnt a big superstar and you cant quite tell if he would do a good enough job yet.. but after you’ve said that i think it would be best so try D.J. on the strong side with boss and the weak and have whom ever in the middle

  87. jazzyfrizzle Says:

    Ok, here is the answer,
If you want to keep a quality player on the team, aka DJ, then you need to listen to what he wants, especially after all the great playing and willingness to do whatever he has done. With that said, DJ says he wants to move back to the weakside, because when you get moved to a different position every year, it stops you from settling in and improving on your technique. So he feels like he is being held back from showing his true potential. So DJ will play on the weak side this year and hopefully for a long time. Now to Boss. He is said to be faster than champ and, he said that Detroit didn’t use him right, which is probably true being that Detroit has sucked for quite some time now. Boss is fast, strong and a hard hitter. so if Slowik can put in a good system which will use each player correctly, then these two spots should be taken care of. And the middle? Well Niko seems to be the guy, time will tell, but he was only the backup because he played behind one of the best guys in the league in Seattle. He was a monster tackler for them on special teams which means he has good tackling technique and very nice speed, which Nate Webster had neither of so much, he has alright speed, but he is an all or none type of tackler. He will either hit you and make you hurt, or he will miss you and give up a huge play. So lets hope Niko can play middle and we will have a very good trio of LB’s.

  88. jazzyfrizzle Says:

By the way DJ has also vocalized that he dislikes playing sam, he likes it least out of the three positions.

  89. m.c. the great Says:

Im not hearing too much confidence in our LB situation, should we have focused more on the position in the draft, because even if the situation with our Starting LB’s is handled, whos backing them up, what happens in a case of an injury. I mean the only thing good i see outside of DJ and Boss, is the guy out of USC and thats only because USC LB normally turn out to be pretty good. I guess we all just have to wait it out and see

  90. Broncobailey99 Says:

I like our LB situation.. but it is kinda thin (no depth) or at least not with the best back ups… but i think we should be able to pull it off this year and then can focus on a possible drafted LB or even come across a LB in a trade or in the free agency that can have a big help

  91. m.c. the great Says:

my bad i was thinking about the Jags when i said the guy out of USC, we got that guy from arizona, from scouting reports it sounds like he could be a find.

  92. broncos14441 Says:

    READ THIS!!!!!!!!

What rookie will make the biggest immediate impact on the broncos?

My choice is Eddie Royal. He is going to help out in the return game and has the hands and speed to be a quality reciever.

  93. Broncobailey99 Says:

The biggest?… Well thats our #1 draft pick Ryan Clady… but the one you’ll notice more because all eyes will be on him when he’s on the field then that would be Eddie Royal…

  94. West Coast Says:

I seriously think we have improved at every position and am very excited about this years team. I have to listen to all these Bandwagon Charger fans down here and am ready to unload our offensive weapons on them. We have a great group of receivers and dont forget Parker is one of the fastest in the NFL. We have a ton of depth and I think we have the ability to put up a lot of points. Happy Fathers Day to all you Daddy Bloggers. Take Care,
    ….West Coast

  95. broncozx345 Says:

Wow, these blog entries got heated!!! MC, your are right in the fact that Denver does have holes to fill, but so does every other team in the NFL(someone already said that, can’t remember who.) GO BRONCOS!

  96. Broncobailey99 Says:

Yeah every team has holes… you’d be unhuman if you had no holes on your team… but I can’t wait either.

Just the fact that Jay will be healthy and ready for his 3rd season is exciting… he now has more recievers w/ experience and a some what better O line… that should be good… Defensively im excited about D.J. back in his spot and Boss with us now…

We’ve most defenetly improved… im not sayin Superbowl status (which would be awesome) but i think we’ll be back in the playoff run and become that playoff team we use to be…

***JUST FOR “KICKS AND GIGGLES”… WHO DO YOU THINK IS GOING TO DO THE BEST FOR THE BRONCOS THIS YEAR (IN OTHER WORDS… WHO WILL BE THE TEAM MVP)***

  97. jmonk Says:

i think ether selvin young or b marsh, but i could see champ haveing a great year after whats considered a bad year for him last season

  98. jazzyfrizzle Says:

Either Dumerville because he will lead the league in sacks, if the other guys help him by doing enough so that he doesn’t get double teamed all the time, or jay cutler with all these receivers at hand, he just might have himself a great season, but the catch for this to happen is A) B marsh has to be a monster and recover from his injury, and 2) the o-line needs to give cutler time to make some deep bombs. Sammy parker looks like he knows how to stretch the field.

  99. Cisco24 Says:

MVP? Wow. It could be a number of players. Jay, B-Marsh, Selvin, Champ, Jarvis, Elvis, D.J. There are a few candidates but hoestly I think it will be either Champ or Cutler.

And I am also looking forward to this season. I have been waiting too long already for this. Does anyone have any predictions about the records for this season in the AFC West??? Here’s what I think, and everyone is entitled to their own opinions so nobody bite my head off plz.

    Chargers: 12-4
    Broncos: 10-6
    Raiders: 6-10
    Chiefs: 3-13

Just to add some depth to this, I think we will go 1-1 with the Chargers. We will go 1-1 with the Raiders. And I can see us destroying KC so I will go 2-0 against them. What do you guys think?

  100. broncos14441 Says:

Ha! I like how you (CISCO24) said evry1 is entiled to their own opinion so dont bite my head off because i hate when people argue so much. Here’s my opinion:

    Chargers: 13-3 (6-0 in Div)
    Broncos: 11-5 (4-2 in Div)
    Raiders: 8-8 (2-4)
    Chiefs: 4 -12 (0-6 in Div)

  101. m.c. the great Says:

4-12 and 3-13 thats funny the cheifs are gettin no love ill give em 6 wins at least i think they can take steps forward with the additions theyve made to the team. I dont think they can do much in the division but they play some bad teams so i think theyll look better than they really are

  102. Broncobailey99 Says:

I like a mix of Ciscos and Bronco14441…. I think we’ll make it to the playoffs… and so do most people from the cast of NFL Network’s NFL total access (if you have NFL network you know what i mean by Total Access)… Chargers will defenetly still be the division champs… but hopefully not… I personally think that chargers are that GA-REAT… and the Broncos can defenetly take ‘em on… but based on the past i think AFC WEST goes to Chargers

  103. Broncostildadayidie Says:

M.C the Great actually said something that got my attention, when he bombarded my computer with all the problems we have. But what’s even more alarming is that all of the things he said are absolutely dead on. But what’s even MORE ALARMING is the responses he got back. Ya’ll say the Broncos have problems but they’re no big deal because every team has problems, but that is total bs when it comes to us. We shouldn’t be like most teams. We should not have lost to the sorry @$$ Texans, Raiders, or Bears, and dropping two to the Chargers both in blowout fashion doesn’t make me very excited. I’m sorry if I sound like a non-believer but I’m anxious but scared for next season because Slowik is of the same mold of the last defensive coordinator we had, and last time I checked that guy gave us a 31st ranked run defense, only above the Raiders. Yall make it sound as if our problems are small problems that anyone can live with but their not. No Championship team or even playoff team can survive with our problems. We can’t stop the run and Niko is not the guy, there is a reason the Seahawks replaced him in his prime with Lofa Tatupu and don’t give me that “because he’s a monster” because they did know he would evolve into a pro bowl MLB in two seasons. Our offensive line situation doesn’t look that great because unless we get 4 more Ryan Clady’s we’ll be doomed at the LOS. I say that because age has cost us Tom Nalen’s better days(He is a beast but we’ll only have him for like two more seasons), Ryan Harris protected Brady Quinn and ask Brady those days weren’t great when he was getting beasted on at Notre Dame, and don’t even get me started on the guards, I’ll go all day.

Don’t get me wrong we have all kinds of talent on the perimeter, but I think the Giants game reminded us all where Championships are won, IN THE TRENCHES. Our running attack is set but as far as our so called “scary receiving corp” goes, I’m not impressed. For all the believers in Darrell Jackson, I have to ask, what happened in San Fransisco. And to top that what about Seattle? Folks, there is a reason people get cut and traded and outright released in this league, Darrell wasn’t getting the job done therefore thine @$$ had to be let go. And Samie Parker didn’t even start in Kansas City, and they had no receiving threats at all so what make everyone think he’s the answer. He has explosive speed but his hands are not even nearly up to par. The way I see it if you can’t start on the Chiefs at WR you don’t belong in this league, their receivers are all garbage besides Dwayne Bowe.

I know some of you will want to eat me up for this but it had to be said, now can someone break it down for me why we’ll belong in the AFC title game, let alone a superbowl with the problems we have?

P.S- M.C the Great hit the nail on the head, but gets abused on here for being a realist, now I’m not calling how he abuses everyone’s opinion correct but he gets points in my book for his objectivity. You can’t look at our squad and it’s issues and say we’re a championship team objectively and I’d like to thank M.C for being realistic on that.

  104. Broncobailey99 Says:

Im kinda neutral… i want and believe that we can do a ton better but deep down inside i worry… But i strongly believe that we’ll be back in to the playoffs like we usually are… but the catch is it will be wild card. I really dont see us going far. If we do get that wild card spot, then hopefully we could win the next game, but i doubt it.

Now with the WR issue… I dont think it’s as bad as some think. I also dont really see Jackson doing great but he will contribute in a way. B-Marsh and Stokley will be our main guys, Even though Stokley is considered 3rd on the depth chart, he willl do tons better then jackson. I also think you’ll see some of Royall… but some. Since he is a rookie, he’ll probably just focus more on the returning and some recieving. But hopefully Jay can indeed make Jackson look like a great player… Which brings me to my next point… Cutler is healthy now… we know his problem, and i think that will make all the recievers look a lot better.

In the words of Cisco… This is my oppinion and dont bite my head of please…..

  105. jazzyfrizzle Says:

Djax is gonna be great, he did crap in san fran, because, who didnt do crap in san fran? It’s called alex smith is the problem out there. He has a great upside in denver and i expect him to turn some heads. Sammie Parker, I am skeptical about, but again, they havent had a qb have a great season in time….. Colbert, again some upside, nobody did great last year in carolina since jake D went down. Not even steve smith. And when jake d was healthy, everyone knows he rarely threw to anyone outside smith. So lets give them the benefit of the doubt until they give us a reason to say they wont get it done. Word floating around camp is that this is the best lineup of wr’s we have had in a while. Most positive group, which leads to good team chemistry. There’s my two cents, take it or leave it.

  106. Broncobailey99 Says:

    AGREED….

  107. Cisco24 Says:

Haha! Jayfrizzle, you hit it on the button with the WR issue. Alex Smith was and STILL is the problem im San Fran. Djax has good speed and Parker is one of the fastest in the NFL. Lets just see how they work out with a QB that can bomb it 63 yards off of his back foot. Lets just see how they can produce with some talent.

Broncostildadayidie, think about it. We won 7 games last year with a load of injuries, especially in the trenches. We did not have great depth and outside DJ, the linebacking core didn’t do produce. Cutler was losing weight and strength and Walker was out. Lepsis was struggling. I could go on a bit more but im sure everyone gets the point.

Now look. We have depth, Cutler is healthy, and hopefully we can keep the injury bug away. Lots of you including me were skeptical about Niko but look at the improvment from last year at linebacker. If you ask me, we are way better this year. So much talent!

Don’t get me wrong, I like the different views, it makes for great debates. But in the end I am being very realistic saying we will be in the playoffs considering we weren’t that far off last year with the team we had. And maybe/possibly, if the Chargers happen to have some key players go down considering their durability is questionable and no depth, we could win division. But my prediction stays the same. We get to playoffs in the wild card with a record of 10-6 and maybe 11-5. I think we will make it to the 2nd round and we will see from there.

Thanks Guys, seems like i have a catch phrase now hahaha!

  108. broncozx345 Says:

I guess I’ll give my predictions:

    SD: 12-4
    DEN: 11-5
    OAK: 7-9
    KC: 5-11

  109. Broncostildadayidie Says:

Now you know I really agree with everything you said Cisco, but what’s been unaddressed constantly by everyone here is Darrell Jackson. I understand that Alex Smith is a bust, but last I checked, Matt Hasselbeck is a pro bowl QB and the decision to let go of good receivers would usually upset QB’s. You notice how unupset he was with the letting go of DJAX, shouldn’t that tell you something. And the 11-5 is extremely realistic, thanks for not going crazy on me and saying “ohh, we’re so good we’ll return to 05 form and better and go 15-1. Because we still have alot of building to do.
And you have all made great points about the linebacking corp but I still don’t sleep well knowing my season could be decided by Niko in the middle. That makes me uneasy, I explained earlier why I don’t like him but I guess only time will tell. Now if he smashes LT or gives Philip Rivers the hit of a life time that would change my perspective but until then I’ll wait and if you all are right you’ll see me on here apologizing for having doubted him.

    Go Broncos!!!

  110. broncos14441 Says:

Personally I’m excited for the upcoming years in denver. This is the list of quality players we have that have 3 years or less of expirience:

    Cutler
    Marshall
    Scheffler
    Young
    Dummervil
& We’ll see about rookies Clady and Royal

All these guys have THE POTENTIAL to be great NFL starters for years and years to come if they develope and work hard. Yes, Marshall’s injury will slow down his improvment but he’s a WR and they hardly have to do any work on half the plays so i don’t see it affecting him very much on the field. And no, we don’t know about Young yet but Shanahan seems to have faith in him and come on, they could stick Ebinezer Ekuban in the broncos backfield and he’d have a 1000 yards season. Well, not literally but you get the point. So no matter what happens this year, we’ll keep getting better and hopefully, in a couple years we’ll get back to the superbowl and take home the trophy.
    Go Broncos!

    -broncos14441-

  111. Broncobailey99 Says:

I think Niko will do GOOD… Now not great…but good. This is like what i said about Djax… Djax will not be our great WR… but he’ll do well enough to help us improve with his experience. Now with Niko i dont see him getting a Defensive player of the year award… or any great title for that year… but i think he is a safe player to have there. W/ his speed and intensity in the game, he’ll help us get by.

Now I say this from what I think… But I really hope I’m wrong and I hope that he is GREAT… But as of right now I think he is good

Like what Jayfrizzle was trying to get across…. Basically dont just automatically assume that these guys wont do good… Just give ‘em a chance because they just might surprise you…

My Final Thoughts: Niko and DJax seem to be the more popular ones to debate about… My thoughts are that they will both do good. They wont be those players that when you think of the Denver Broncos you picture Niko tackling someone or Djax making a catch… i think you leave that to Cutler, Lynch, and Bailey…. but these two will do G-O-O-D…

  112. m.c. the great Says:

Broncostildadayidie it seems weve destroyed bronco wonder land where Cutler and marshel deliver the mail, and mike is the mayor, and youve got 4 bronco cheerleaders and champ baily on your speed dial.

But really every one on here is basically saying 10 or 11 wins, i just think that some of us see a possibility for greater acheivment and are afraid of of another 7-9 year. While some of us dont see 7-9 as a possibility. So i think that fear 0f another 7-9 season after all if we wouldnt have kicked to devin hester TWICE, and champ not get beat on a out route in the end zone, and with all of that we lost that game by 3 points, got burnt by james jones in over time. that puts us at 9-7 and that was with no javon walker a o line that was useless on the goal line. But thats been the last 2 years in 06 it was oh it was cutlers first year and all that, basically some of us dont want any more excuses as ligitament as they mey be, we just want results, and for this team to live up to its potential. And i honestly think that this year this teams potential shale be realised.

  113. jazzyfrizzle Says:

    realistically,
I believe we can win 13 games with the talent on this team. It’s just a matter of finishing teams off. But 11 or 12 wins seems like a more likely win total, so on my final standings, i will go with
    Broncos 12-4
    Chargers 11-5
    Cheifs 3-12
    raiders 3-12

Hey it looks like by the end of game one, walker might be found laying on the ground unconscious for the second time this year, give em a good lickin lynch, like the one you put on the cincy receiver at the beginning of all those bronco videos. I love that hit.

  114. mark_cooper Says:

You’re all on fire. I didn’t know a few things I just learned about Pittman either, but you guys went after each other…..hmmm. Passionate about the game, I love it.

The predictions were interesting too. The Bolts, unfortunately are the guys we have to chase and I like our chances with the rest of the division (If we stay healthy)…last year was the worst I’d seen in some time, injury-wise, but that’s the NFL.

Camps not far off. In the day, the 4th of July was the last real weekend off and if I wasn’t in TIP-TOP shape at that point I’d be scared to death. So you really pushed hard after the season, maybe take a week or two off and then get back in the gym and start getting going before the 4th of July. Sure there were mini-camps but the real push was for early July..to be ready to compete again.

We’re better on paper than a year ago, so I’m anxious to see how we look in camp. Go Broncos!!

    Coop

  115. Broncobailey99 Says:

Wow Coop… that is the best way to put how I, and most, people feel about the broncos… “We’re better on paper than a year ago”… That’s the perfect way to put it… As of right now we are way better than last year… but time will tell if we really are or not

  116. m.c. the great Says:

hey jazzy could you go down the schedule and pick the 12 or 13 games you say where gona win

  117. jazzyfrizzle Says:

    kc
    kc
    oak
    oak
    sd
    NO
    TB
    Mia
    Atl
    Car
    Buf
NE, we usually have their number, thats 12
and we will have a shot a beating the browns

  118. Broncobailey99 Says:

When you look at those teams… It really boosts my confidence. It is VERY VERY possbile to get 12 wins…. but at the same time it is possible not to…

  119. jazzyfrizzle Says:

hey anything is possible. And with us, we will probably end up getting some games backwards. Meaning we lose to miami (they have our number lately) and then we beat jacksonville. Any given sunday.

  120. stephanie_hollis Says:

Thanks for the blog Coop, it’s the only blog on here that is worth anything.

  121. Cisco24 Says:

I definately agree with you Steph. Coop I’m glad you give us really good topics to talk and debate about. It really teaches me a lot of things that I didn’t know or realize. And although we are capable of winning 12 this year, I still believe we will win 10 or 12. Good talking to you guys, see you on Coop’s next blog.

  122. Cisco24 Says:

    Sorry, I meant 10 or 11

  123. Broncobailey99 Says:

It’s ok Cisco… we all make mistakes

Coop. thanks for actually interacting on your blog. We love it when you leave comments and join in the conversation. Thanks, I look forward to your next blog.

  125. m.c. the great Says:

Its not too far out there, i have us splittins the series with oakland and loosing both games to the chargers, cause I donth think our offense has changed that much and it only put 6 points on them last year, but if our o line improves then i think we can score some points on them. How we play in our first 4 games will tell alot about how this year will go.

  126. jazzyfrizzle Says:

Mark my words, the raiders WILL NOT beat us again this year. And we were in such a mess last year defensively that we were getting killed by the chargers. We have a much improved D this year, much healthier. And our o line is improved and without javon and travis, who in my opinion had a lot to do with out offense not having any unity and being distracted. So I will personally be disappointed this year if we lose both games to SD, even more so if we dont improve on last year. Now oakland has a few new cancerous bugs and they just won’t get any better until Al Davis is dead, as he just won’t retire.

  127. Broncobailey99 Says:

I beg to differ… Our offense has changed a lot… Cutler is healthy…. We have WR that have actually had a starting position in their career(and we have a lot more depth a WR)… Cutler, Marshall, and Sheffler are all getting better and have matured into their role on the team more… We have a stonger and healthier O line… RB is kinda tuff but we have experience and depth their… Our offense is much better and has changed

here is an interesting link which is titled something like so: Mark my words, Denver will go 13-3. Of coarse its just an opinion, but the dude backs up his statement very well. Check it out. And btw, I forgot on my list of teams we will beat the new york jets. When I saw New York on the list @ Giants stadium, I thought it was the jets. But we will beat them and according to this article, we have the 3rd or 4th easiest schedule on paper.

  129. jazzyfrizzle Says:

*correction, I thought it was the Giants, not the jets, and it is the jets.

Thank you JazzyFrizzle for posting that article link

  131. m.c. the great Says:

Ok, you just described our WR situation from 2 years ago, walker is now marshall and the #2 spot was an unknown, high on potnetial but low on stability at the TE spot, 2 years ago our o line was healthy.

The only things i see that can change our offense is how selvin plays, Im hopefull royal will be our #2, and will schef stay healthy. I am honestly not convinced on the rest of the wide outs we have so all hope goes into royal being a great #2 then stokely can stay at the 3 spot. And really if selvin has the year every one wants him to have the #2 wr spot wont be all that important.

And th emore i look at it the more i see that, if we dont give games away we could win 12 or 13 games, i just dont want to be the jags from a few years ago, or the cowboys from this year. It is possible but i dont want to hear how weve become jugernaughts after this year after beating up on bad teams

  132. broncos14441 Says:

What will the WR Depth Chart be this year? I cant decide but right now this it go’s like this:

    1. Marshall
    2. Jackson
    3. Stokley (seems like most people have forgot about him)
    3. Eddie Royal
    4 or 5. Keary Colbert
    4 or 5. Samie Parker
    6. Glenn Martinez

  133. Broncobailey99 Says:

No one has forgot about Stokley, it’s just his position is taken care of and no one is debating on who will get #3 because it is taken by him

  134. jazzyfrizzle Says:

I sure hope brandon marshall doesn’t get suspended, the nfl is starting to investigate his three arrests from last year. Them in charge should watch his latest video on this website and see that he has changed and that he is lookiing to be a role model.

  135. m.c. the great Says:

he was arrested but never charged with any thing and its done and over wit. The NFL wont get involved if no agency gets involved.

  136. jmonk Says:

would anybody else like to see what a 1st round talent rb could do with our line? dont get me wrong i like young alot but its scary to look at what he did last year and think what would happen if we got a guy with peterson type talent, i know there wont be another guy just like him but i mean some1 comprable in terms of speed power vision and all of that. anyones thoughts?

  137. jmonk Says:

oh i also love how theyve had that 1 blog up there for like a week now with no posts on it but this 1s at 100 and something, did any1 see the 1 that was put up that had some1 complaineing about cutler at fan fair and it was gone the next day?

  138. Broncostildadayidie Says:

Actually M.C the Great, the league will go after you. I know you said if no agencies are involved but Pacman never was convicted of anything and it’s not like Brandon isn’t a repeat offender so watch out. Not to mention Goodell isn’t exactly Paul Taglibou or however you spell it, he’s pretty damn heavy handed.(excuse the language). I sure hope Brandon doesn’t turn into our scenario of Chris Henry from the Bengals?

  139. jazzyfrizzle Says:

Marshall is no Chris Henry. But you are right. No conviction is needed. The NFL is a union and they have their own rules, if you violate them or even if they just don’t like what you did, they can suspend you or even the head coach can bench you. But Marshall is a good guy, his heart is to be a leader. He just seems to be very emotional and he has a hard time controlling his anger when he is upset. I think he will get zero arrests this year.

  140. m.c. the great Says:

oh i was speaking on the NFL investigating, they have very little power to actually discover any thing other than players body fluids……. How did we get on this topic any way.

But Jmonk Im right there with ya ive been saying the same thing why is mike against getting the best talent at the RB position when he goes for the best talent at every other position.

  141. jmonk Says:

sometimes i think its because of the guys weve had doing so well he thinks he doesnt need to go out and spend all of that money on a 1st round rb when when a 5th and 6th(or something along those lines) will do, i cant blame him for his thinking because it works but i gotta admit i loved it when people would talk about who was the rb in the league that every1 wanted on their team and a majority would say td.

  142. jazzyfrizzle Says:

which he was a 6th or 7th rounder. so having an elite back is being missed, but td and cp both prove that they dont need to be a first round back.

  143. jazzyfrizzle Says:

excerpt from an article i read:

Marshall’s arrest two days later was his third in a year, and his latest run-in with the law has put him under the league’s scrutiny. NFL spokesman Greg Aiello confirmed Wednesday the league was reviewing Marshall’s March 6 arrest, for which he faces a misdemeanor battery charge for allegedly hitting girlfriend Rasheedah Watley.

He was released from jail the next day after posting $1,000 bond.

Under the NFL’s Personal Conduct Policy, Marshall could be suspended because of his multiple arrests and alleged incidents. He’s due in court in September for a trial on a drunken driving arrest on October 2007.

So it is possible, lets just hope it doesn’t happen

  144. Broncostildadayidie Says:

Man I sure miss Clinton Portis, he had the potential to be the premier back of the league, I’m sorry I know i’ll get flack for this but I’m starting to think we got the worst part of that trade with the Redskins. Just think about it they gave us a corner who’s career was half-way over anyway for what was thought to be at the time, the best back in the league. By now for us he probably might have won an MVP or two and we have nothing to show for getting the best corner in the league. Sure, I know how good he is but we have no rings to dignify it, Champ is a great Bronco but the NBA draft I watched last night reminded me you shouldn’t give up your best young talent for an older guy for the so called “win now” situation. Which is what we were in when we got Champ. The draft made me think of how if you go into that we’re gonna do whatever we have to do to win now, then you had better win now. Because you have completely abandoned “down the road” when your best players are gone.
Look at the Celtics, in three to four years they’ll be in complete devastation, because they’ll have no KG, Ray Ray, or PP. It may sound stupid that I’m using basketball analagies but what you do with your young talent affects what direction your franchise goes in, regardless of the sport.

When we took Bailey it was to win now, but we haven’t the championships to show the mode we went into, and now Bailey is approaching the downside of his career and CP is the centerpiece of the Redskin franchise. So you look down the line and tell yourself and me who got the best of that trade. (And this isn’t directed at any one person but to the overall Bronco nation)

  145. m.c. the great Says:

That trade didnt work out for any one, Portis hasnt came close to the type of numbers that he had while he was here, and they traded him cause he wanted a new contract and denvers policy is they wont give you have to play out your whole rookie contract before they give you a new one and portis wasnt hearin that. But our system wasnt perfect for Clinton but our Defensive system isnt right for champ Its just all wrong

  146. jazzyfrizzle Says:

you are both crazy! We got the way better end of that deal. I don’t know how a couple of rebuilding seasons can throw you guys off so badly. The past three years, champ has had a combined 21 picks, and he would have had more if he wasnt playing the run last year when our d line just couldnt get it done. And yes, last years system was wrong for champ, but it was wrong for the whole dang team. We also got tatum bell out of that trade who did put up some pretty decent numbers for a few years. CP is injury prone and he is on the decline much more than champ. Ask most people who really know the league and they will say that champ is the best corner in the league. A few years back, people stopped throwing to champs side because it would get picked off almost every time. Give the hall of famer some slack, last year our D just didn’t click. We had the worst fricken run defense we have ever had. So you bet teams are gonna shove the run down our throats and the coaches told champ that he had to help stop it when it got past the front guys. If our line does as good as it has the potential to do, and our LB’s do their jobs right, then we will have plenty of pressure on the QB’s and Champ and Bly will be the leading duo of corners in the league like everyone thought they would be last year. Bates was a joke. And luckily Slow knows what he is doing and he is much more aggressive. And just for the records, Champ is only three seasons older than CP, and because running backs careers are so much shorter than corners, darn right you will get flack for saying champ is on his downside, and CP is the centerpiece. Because the Skins havent gotten any further with CP in the playoffs than we have with champ. And one man doesnt win a football championship.

  147. Broncobailey99 Says:

That was perfectly said Jazzyfrizzle, looks like somebody did his research.

  148. Broncostildadayidie Says:

I never said Bailey wasn’t good, but if you want to blast me, then answer my question how many rings do we have to show for the hall of famer, Portis hasn’t even hit his true prime yet and Bailey is damn near out of it, so answer the question. If you want to talk about our rebuilding, when you’re rebuilding, your usually not in the Superbowl hunt for 3 maybe 4 years or longer, Bailey is an 11th year corner this year, who’s to say he’ll play that much longer. His skills would allow him to but he could pull a Barry Sanders and go out with much more in him. LT has alot of good years in him and he said he might not even play 5 more seasons to get the rushing record, so who’s to say Bailey will want to play the amount of seasons required for our “rebuilding” to be done.
And as far as your little tidbit about Tatum Bell, last time I checked he was a backup running back in Detroit, so what is he doing? And Clinton Portis is the centerpiece of the Redskins, the only reason his numbers aren’t ridiculous is because he lets Ladell Betts get some reps.

  149. jazzyfrizzle Says:

    dude,
I am not ripping you i am stating facts. Portis will retire before champ, running backs wear faster. Tatum bell put up good stats for us for a good seasons, read carefully, and if you want to take it a step further, I don’t care what he is doing now, because we got Dre Bly. So in reality, we got bly and champ out of the Portis trade. CP was in his prime with us, he got injured in washington which is why Betts took his carries a couple years ago, he shined, so of coarse he still gets a few carries. CP has a few good seasons left, and thats it. When a team changes direction at QB, especially with a young QB, expect a couple of years for the team to get good. I was simply giving you flack, like you stated you would get and telling you why I disagree. Thats technically not a rip. I work very hard at not ripping other denver fans. Bailey has played 9 seasons and is going into his 10th. Not 11th. CP has played 6 and is going on 7. And I never said that you said Bailey wasn’t good, I disagreed with your statement that we got the worst end of the trade and with MC’s statement that our system isn’t right for bailey. That just is not true. So please read the facts I state before jumping to conclusions. So to answer your rhetoric question, we have won zero rings with champ. As have the skins won zero with CP. This is our third year under Jay and he will do great, as will our team. we will make the playoffs. One last thing you, cant compare a RB’s longevity with a corners. It’s just a proven fact that RB’s start losing it after so many carries. Shaun Alexander is a great example, MVP RB, he doesn’t even have a job and he played for 8 seasons and lost it in his 8th. Edgerrin James? So I say CP has 2 or three good seasons left in him, and he finishes without a ring.

  150. jazzyfrizzle Says:

Water covers 2/3 of the earth, champ covers the other. I love that saying.

  151. broncomaniac81 Says:

    http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/news/story?id=2822035

jazzyfrrizzle is so right about CP vs. Champ, read this article from 2007 about the 2006 season and who should be NFL defensive MVP. You especially need to read Eric Allen’s part as well as Len Pasquarelli’s part as they are some of the NFL “experts”.
All I have to say is in 2006 Ron Jaworski stated on MNF pre-season against the 49ers that Bailey only got tested 35 times and only 4 passes were completed over him for 0 TDs, once again ONLY 4 PASSES COMPLETED and 0 TOUCHDOWNS ALLOWED all 2006 season. Name a CB that has had a season like that. And most experts say that he is the best shutdown corner since Deion Sanders, but one thing Sanders could not do that Champ can is tackling, and he is the best tackling CB in the game, most fans of other teams fear that when a RB or TE comes there CB’s way is that CB is not going to make the tackle, but here in Denver you know Champ is going to make that tackle.
Also CP’s numbers have been and will do nothing but decline in washington, the redskins havn’t done anything in the playoffs, but even though we haven’t won a ring with champ at least he gave us a chance in 2006 by beating the patriots in the playoffs and helping us get to the AFC championship a lot more than CP can say there in Washington.
All I can say is that and especially here in Denver, you can easily find a RB that can put up numbers, but think of how hard it is to get even a decent CB, its a lot easier to name the the good RB’s in the game, but not so easy to name the good CB’s in the game and Champ is the best out there period.
In my opinon and I think most here in Denver we got the better end of the deal.

  152. broncos14441 Says:

Yes, Portis was great for our system, BUT EVRY ONE IS! Last year was the first year since we traded Portis that we didn’t have a 1000 yard rusher. That was because we had 3 different starters over the course of the year because of all the injuries. And since we traded Portis, no person in the ENTIRE NFL has had more INT’s. So in my opinion, we dominated that trade.

  153. jmonk Says:

i would make the trade for champ with cp hands down everytime. champ pretty much takes his side of the field away from qbs 9 outa 10 pass plays portis isnt a threat to score every time he touches the ball because he get hurt to much, champ plays through injurys more often then not portis warms the bench i think at the end of the day champs value is way more because we cant just plug any1 into our cb spot and have them make the pro bowl year after year and even when they have a bad year statisicly.

  154. ramboskithefan Says:

portis was good but he was too cocky and we dont like that round here!! Champ is the man….and is the reason we even made it to the AFC championship that year…with his huge pics all year in the redzone…and even better taking it from brady to secure the game….how many playoff games has Portis been in??? i dont know all the stats i just know Champ is the best CB in the NFL…and Portis now a days barely cracks the top ten for HB’s

  155. m.c. the great Says:

Im not sayin our system is wrong for champ, but when a corner cant play bump and run they have no control of the receiver, and they are in a strictley reactionary position, champ has all the skills needed to play bump and run witch by default is better than playing off of the receiver after all the greatest corner to ever play the game played bump and run and addvocates for champ to be allowed to play it more often to take complete advantage of his skills.

And wit this “every one is good for our system” bull chowder, i wont even include last year in the discusion, Clinton put up rediculous numbers here that no back since has come close to, and he was barely getting 20 carries a game and putting up 15 and almost 16 hundred yards rushing. And why is 1000 yards the magic number people look at??? you only need like 66 yards a game to get 1000 really is 66 yards a game an IMPACT thats the differnce betwen clinton and mike anderson, and this laughable stock of backs weve had lately, CP and Mike won games for us made an impact, you cant say that any one since then was the reason we won a game or.

And for you people stating oppionions wit no facts Porits has had a 1500 yard season in washington and was 6th leading rusher last year, and thats against a 8 man box every down, which in denver he wouldnt have to deal with, and he’s only 26.

Im not trying to bash champ or anything i love him to death but with him not playing bump and run here, hind sight says I would have to say i would rather have seen Portis here, knowing that we havnt won a super bowl yet, it would be nice to see if that would be different if we kept portis, now if there was a way to get both of them here in denver that would be the day i become a resident of this broncos fairy tale land that so many of yall live in.

So you think Portis is the man huh. You are looking at some numbers, as am I. So let me tell you the numbers I see and why they dont impress me. For starters, CP is the centerpiece for the skins… which he should be since they have crap for a qb and have for a while. With that being said, he gets the ball quite a bit. So here is some numbers and some comparisons. Last year CP was 6th in the league in rushing, correct, but he averaged 3.9 yards per attempt. Not so hot. Which means the
