Offseason in Full Swing

The offseason will be busy and we’ve already seen Coach Bates leave and Bob Slowik has the job. He’s been with the team since 2005, so that’s a positive. I don’t know a lot about him. I’m sure we’ll get to know him quickly.

Big playoff weekend coming up. My dark horse team is Jacksonville as much as I like the Patriots who aren’t playing like they were earlier in the year. I like Green Bay, the Cowboys even without T.O. and Indy. Yea, yea, I know I sound like a front-runner, right?

Let me know your thoughts and check in throughout the offseason and let’s keep in touch and I’ll give you my 2 cents worth and keep you up to speed on what I know and hear and you do the same.

The Super Bowl, the Pro Bowl, the Draft, acquisition time and the Hall of Fame inductions, then the season. It will go fast. I went to John Elway and Jim Kelly’s inductions and had a blast. I had my eldest son with me and he really enjoyed the venue and all the history and hoopla. There’s even a (little) picture of me in the Hall of Fame, thanks to John and the DRIVE.

I tell everyone that I helped John get into the Hall of Fame and they look at me funny. I go on to say, someone has to take credit for his scrambling abilty………..why not me? Ha! Ha!

The Cowboys? I’m going with the Giants. There defense is relentless and Eli is good on the road.

I’m picking three upsets this weekend, I think the Jags, Seahawks and G-Men all have a great shot of winning and will do so. This is why, New England will find out just how tough Jacksonville is when they get hit in the mouth repeatedly and Brady will be harassed more than women at Jets games. As for the Cowboys, the Giants know them like a book and they love playing on the road. Dallas is somewhat sketchy, especially if TO can’t go all out. Green Bay is just too young, other than Brett Favre, the playoff experience is fairly thin on this squad and the Seahawks can win difficult games when called upon to do so. Indianapolis will advance because players like Peyton Manning and Bob Sanders are great leaders and play with exceptional passion. No one wants to send Tony Dungy out a loser, if he is indeed going. Plus, that a-hole Philip Rivers needs to be humbled. Hopefully, you like these picks. I’m out.

Whoever the Broncos can learn from the most is who I want to win. And the Chargers to lose.

  4. clutch734 Says:

i want the chargers to lose…indy or jacksonville to win it all

  5. imready Says:

i don’t like the pats or their coach but i don’t see them losing to the jags.
i don’t like san diego either, i don’t see the colts losing to them.
seattle has got a big chip on their shoulder and green bay is pretty young, seattle wins this one.
the giants are playing pretty good and very smart, the cowboys have been heading the opposite direction. i’m picking the giants.
if you are putting money on the games, bet the opposite of me cause i am never right!

I’d like to see history repeat itself with this year’s superbowl. The Colts go into it as the returning champions and favorites to take it all(like the 97 packers). Brett Farve and packers pull an upset and win it.

  7. RNST Says:

please change shanahan, his era is over .again waits for a 2008 to us of mediocrity with him

  8. ilovebaily24 Says:

If cowboys have owens they will win if not they could still win either way i go for the cowboys. id like to see the jags win and the chargers lose. greenbay and seattle i dont know.

I’ve been trying to get a handle on Slowik, the only thing I can find philiosophy-wise is that he prefers bump and run coverage.

    Amen to that.

Hopefully he is blitz-oriented, hopefully, he allows the DT’s to shoot the gap and be disruptive.

From a management standpoint, he seems to have his act together, he just missed getting the Bronco job from Ray Rhodes.

If he can get his hands on some big-uglies in the draft, we’ll be allright.

Wow! what a weekend. I should have stuck with some of your choices. By the way, some very funny comments made above (bradjamesbroncofan). You know what’s funny, I can imagine you typing away with a smerk on your face.

The Cowboys and Colts take it on the chin. My darkhorse Jags are out of the running………..so who do you like this week??

I have to go with the Pats and the “Ole guy” :o) at the Packers. Got to love his swagger.

Not much happening in Bronco land or the home front. I agree with superchop7 on the bump and run and blitzing.

I’m headed down south at the end of the month to a charity golf tournament. Many of you know of Tim Wakefield, Redsox (knuckle-baller). He has a golf tournament that benefits the Space Coast Early Intervention Center that helps kids with learning disabilities move into the mainstream. Very powerful. We visit the center each year and play with the kids and clown around for a while before the fundraiser that evening, with the golf tournament the following day

I met Tim years ago at a charity fishing series that I have been fishing in for over 17 years (Redbone Series) www.redbone.org. Tim was with the Pirates at the time. Tim is an amazing guy, he matches whatever is raised on a weekend event which runs into the six figures.

And you know me, I’ll slip a day of flyfishing in on Mosquito Lagoon for redfish the day after the tournament, then head home.

Mark…interested in your take on what the NEEDS are for the organization?
Stregth(opening and maintaining blocks on offense, controling the line of scrimmage on defense) on both lines seemed to be problems the last couple of years, not just this one. Is this due to youth, or just players??
Should the organization work towards “building the engine”(tough, strong, physical lineman on both fronts)? The “hood ornaments”(skill players) seem to be in place?

  12. #80fan Says:

The Giants kind of remind me of the 2006 St. Louis Cardinals. They are beat up and tired yet they keep winning in the playoffs. I think that they will beat the Packers. The Patriots will win. Philip Rivers needs to learn how to grow up and quit taunting fans like he did against the Colts. LT said something about how the Patriots had no class when they Pats beat them in the playoffs last year. Philip Rivers had no class in the win over the Colts. I do not like the Chargers at all. I saw a re-run of Super Bowl XXXII and during game they said that the Broncos had the worst rush defense of any team to make it to the Super Bowl. They allowed almost 5 yards a rush. The defense was aggresive with a lot of blitzes and they created turnovers. Hopefully Solowik brings back an aggressive defense.

Hey Mark, how about a blog on our HOF nominee’s ?

  14. superchop7 Says:

Oh, and BTW, quit kidding yourself, you guys were tough as nails on the o-line.

  15. mark_cooper Says:

t-bonevr, simply, we need to bolster the D-line and maybe add a linebacker. That will take some heat off the secondary. Pressure on the QB is essential. I like the O-line as it has depth. Left tackle spots critical.

Hey no predictions………….the games are starting in a few. O.K. Packers vs Patriots Superbowl.

Let’s see how accurate I am Monday and visit the HOF and team needs more.

    Coop

  16. #80fan Says:

Man, I should be an NFL analyst!!! I was right on with my predictions.

    Go Broncos

  17. mark_cooper Says:

    O.K. #80fan……NFL Analyst………your prediction and point spread. :o)

I have the Patriots and 7. What’s your call??

  18. // / yardo Says:

I’m saying the Giants win by three. 27 - 24

  19. mark_cooper Says:
