One Down, Three to Go! Short week to Houston …

December 10th, 2007 - 8:23am by mark_cooper

How much fun was that to watch!! I have a little different perspective than the press. They’ll ask questions. They’ll say it was a lesser foe, you name it. They’ll have a bunch of excuses for our dominance. I say, “One down, three to GO!!”

One game at a time and we build on each game. We gain confidence with a game like KC, because when you execute, you produce, when you produce, you score points. Man that was fun to watch.  Brandon Marshall, Selvin Young, Brandon Stokley, Elvis Dumervil, Nate Webster, Chris Myers, Erik Pears, Tony Scheffler – that’s the future and that’s going to be fun.

The Bolts won in overtime, close call. We need some help to make the playoffs, sure. But we have to take care of what we have in front of us … Houston, (short week) and we know Gary Kubiak would love to get a win against the Broncos, the Bolts and Minnesota, who has come on and really improved here at the end of the season. So, no easy task. We have to stay focused and take it “ONE GAME AT A TIME.”

By the way, we’re having some issues with my side of the blog replying, so bear with me folks. I replied three times last week and it didn’t post, (small glitch), we’ll fix it this week or you’ll see me re-post and answer the week’s reply, so I’m not ignoring anyone, promise.

This season is too much fun not to be in on the finish and you’ve all been true fans throughout the season. Thanks for hanging in there, O.K.

Thanks COOP for your posts. I enjoy reading them!!

    Coop:
Is there a reason you did not include Kuper in your list of “futures”? The kid has done an outstanding job of playing next to and learning from Lepsis.

  3. twindaddy says:

That was a great win, and its exciting to know that we are a young team. Since getting dominated by the D line in Detroit, the kids up front have done a great job. It will be interesting next year to see who ends up starting after getting Hamilton and Nalen (arguably the best 2 lineman) back from injuries. But I agree with firstfan, that Kuper has been outstanding at left guard. Where does he go next year?

whats meant t be must be.

    Hey Coop,

Finally a writer with some optimisim…I think we will win the WEST and make the playoffss….come on Bronco Fans…lets go!!!!

Thanks for the support, Mark. We are capable of winning these last three games because in the Titans/Chargers game Philip Rivers sucked throughout much of the contest. If Jay Cutler plays like he did against Kansas City down the stretch, you’ve got to like our chances. I don’t think we surrendered even 150 net yards to the Chiefs. If you can do that to an opposing defense and get solid performances like we did from Jay, Selvin and Brandon, we’re tough. If we can sneak out a wild card berth, then I think we’re really dangerous and of course, better for 2008!!!

    So If we win out:

Next week’s game between San Diego and Detroit is meaningless. Regardless of the outcome, they have to lose to the Raiders for Denver to win the division.

    OR

Cleveland loses two (best shot is to Buffalo and then Cincy in the coming weeks).

Tennessee loses one (maybe Kansas City can help us out, if not they’ve got the Jets and the Colts).

Buffalo loses one (hopefully they beat Cleveland this week then lose to the Giants and/or Eagles).

So, as much as it pains me, we are all going to have to root for the Raiders in week 17. And of course, Go Broncos!

  8. clutch734 says:

    hey chickennob2,

you summed it up pretty well….so we have to root on the Bills this week!!!….
Sd lost Merriman maybe for the Denver game too….Neal (FB) out for at least 3-4 weeks…Den has a real chance!!

  9. milehimiracle77 says:

gotta wish the lions well against the bolts. a win by the lions would allow the Broncos to drop one in houston or minnesota, go 8-8 and still win the division! from there it is on through the AFC second seed, winner of the wildcard / first seed, and NFC champ for the greatest super bowl victory season in the history of the sport! bank on it!

  10. mark_cooper says:

Great summation of what needs to happen. Root for the Raiders….hmmmm? Only if it helps us. :o )

You’re right, Kuper should be in there and I’m glad you all noticed the lineman. Hamilton’s done a nice job and it will just make our O-line that much stronger in the future. Hopefully we don’t lose any of these guys to free agency. I haven’t even looked that far in advance to be honest with you. I’m still looking game to game. You can tell how my mind works.

Hopefully we don’t see another year with the run on injuries we’ve seen this year. Cutler should have been mentioned again, but we’ve talked about some of these guys throughout the season.

The “FUTURE’S SO BRIGHT WE HAVE TO WEAR SHADES” :O)

I hope we can stay pumped up for Houston and then judgment day, with the Bolts. Thursday night under the lights. Bring em on baby!!!!!

  11. Dekreybroncofan says:

So you dont consider Jay Cutler as part of the future?

  12. Dekreybroncofan says:

Oh my bad didnt read you last post… So I really think Det has a chance to beat SD with Sean out and Rivers not in practice yet. If we beat them and are tied what happens? Will there be a tie breaker because I know if they loose to us and Det we will have the Same AFC West record right? What about the all arround AFC record dose that play into things before going inot a tie breaker?

  13. Ed-the-relic says:

If we win out and San Diego loses to Raiders we win division.

  14. mark_cooper says:

Thanks for keeping on top of the Playoff picture. I’m still old school in that we have to take care of business first. I know it’s a little weird but if not the rest doesn’t matter. I guess that was always programed into me as a player and it’s tough to get past. I’ll work on that. :o )

I’ve been watching the Playoff picture mainly on ESPN, so I haven’t drilled in deep like you have, thanks.

It’s kind of interesting how we match up with Houston. They’ve had a similar year of injuries. When I think of Houston, the first thing that comes to my mind is the Houston Oilers and Earl Campbell. Remember the old Oil Derrick logo. How about Earl Campbell, now that dude would lay some wood on the defenders and was fun to watch run the ball.

I played for Bum Phillips and his staff in the North/South all-star game in Alabama coming out of college and got to know them a little at the time.

  15. Dekreybroncofan says:

    Ed-the-relic,
So Say SD losses to Det and Us we win out, but SD beats Okland. That would mean the SD is tied with us in AFC, AFC WEST, and NFC Wins… How do they decide who goes from there? Do they decide by a coin flip or by the records of the teams we beat? Dose anyone know? Mark is there someone you talk to that might be able to give us some insight?

  16. mark_cooper says:

    Chickennob2, might have the answer??

  17. buchmannb says:

    Mr Cooper,
I have some concerns about the Denver Broncos this year 2008.Some fans seem to be always concerned about the Broncos offense but I am more concerned about the Defense more right now. I still thin the Broncos have a Major Middle Linebacker problem as well asa Defensive Line problem. Last year the Bronco’s could not stop the run.Plus the defensive coordinator situation is not looking to good. Why is Shanahan going through so many coordinator’s? Bronco fans need to understand that defense wins Championships. Look at the Giants this year and other years when the Broncos faced the Giants “D” they got crushed even during Elways time at QB.Plus Shanahan has gotten away from the run and he passes more because of Cutler. Please let me know Mark how the Bronco’s might fix some of these issues at hand. Thanks Bryce
