Little Bit O’ Everything

October 24th, 2007 - 10:02am by keela_harris

As I sit down to write my blog this week I can’t help but reflect on how quickly time passes. Although the Broncos season has just kicked off, it is midway for the Denver Broncos Cheerleaders as we have been up and running since March! I have a hard time believing that this is my fourth season with the Broncos, and when I walked away from the stadium Sunday night, the stadium lights shut off, tailgating parties at a close, and the Broncos community celebrating a win, I was left in awe.

It never gets old to dance from the top of my head to the bottom of my feet in front of 76,000 fans.  It really is hard to put words to the energy in my heart when I step out onto the field on game day. I saw a lot of Terrible Towels in the crowd on Sunday, but I saw and heard far more Broncos cheers and colors–and it resonates in my heart that I am in a beautiful place right now, and I feel completely blessed to be a part of this organization. There was a point in the game where I looked up in the sky–pitch black, little flurries of snow began to fall and every face in the crowd lunged forward with pure anticipation.  There were 11 seconds on the clock in the fourth quarter, and moments later, Jason Elam came through yet again for the Broncos to pull out the win.

Rebuilding in New Orleans

October 3rd, 2007 - 2:49pm by melissa_aust

Hi everyone, this is Melissa Aust and this past weekend I took a very special trip. My good friend Keela asked if I would share my experience with you, so here I am.

Have you ever sat down to write something and wanted it to be really meaningful? Maybe it was a toast at a wedding, a speech to your fellow classmates or a eulogy at a funeral. Whatever it was, you probably sat there thinking about exactly what you wanted to say and how it would sound.

Well, I sit here typing this in that state. I hope that I can say something meaningful about this trip, and I hope I can provide you with something to remember.

You’re probably thinking, “So what’s this story?!”

So here I go…

A Final Mile High Salute!

September 22nd, 2007 - 1:45pm by keela_harris

Last night was a big night at INVESCO Field at Mile High. The occasion? The Ring of Fame–created in 1984 by Pat Bowlen recognizing and honoring Broncos team members who played momentous roles in the organization’s history. This Ring of Fame dinner was to welcome and celebrate its newest inductee — Terrell Davis.

The event dually honored alumni, while presenting Terrell Davis with the honor that only 20 other members of the Denver Broncos can be associated with. In tribute to the Broncos Alumni Weekend, individuals from the ’60s, ’70s, ’80s, ’90s, ’00s as well as some existing Ring of Famers gathered to share their mutual admiration and put their hands together for a career well done. After an introduction from Pat Bowlen, Mike Shanahan, and a highlight video it was time for the guest of honor. Terrell Davis accepted his newest achievement in true T.D fashion, humorously including stories of his years in the league, emitting humility, gratitude and sincere thanks to all of his coaches, fans and mentors, and of course topping it off with a Mile High Salute to solidify his final thought.

Sunday Play

September 9th, 2007 - 3:35pm by keela_harris

I must be honest, it is quite a treat to have a few more bloggers throwing their comments my way. I do appreciate you stopping in. I know there are some that just stop in to read and others who take a few minnutes to comment and I appreciate both — that is what makes it fun to have a blog — regardless of of why you stopped in thank you for the interaction!

It is Sunday and the organization is celebrating our win over Buffalo this afternoon. We do not travel with the team, so today we were busy doing a little work of our own. I had a charity with Serita Archuleta this afternoon, a fellow cheerleader, off of Wadsworth at Clement park — The Buddy Walk, hosted by the Down Syndrome Association. What an amazing way to spend my Sunday morning. Teams of friends, families and co-workers gathered to walk for those, close or distant, impacted by Down Syndrome. Events like this are incredibly rewarding because of the experience they leave you with–we welcomed and cheered for the teams as they passed the finish line, commending families on their accomplishment. We also signed posters for the second half. However, the afternoon had nothing to do with the tangible things we completed, like I said, the afternoon was that of an experience.

Game Day Rundown

August 29th, 2007 - 7:48pm by keela_harris

Another week into the season and our first home preseason game is under the belt! Although we suffered a loss, it was fun to get the rookies on the field for their first time and get all of the veterans back out on the field to make some more memories.

After the game on Thursday I started reflecting on what actually goes into a game day. The majority of the work to prepare for our games comes into play during rehearsals, training, and technique — so game day is really where everything comes to fruition.

Muddy Buddy

August 20th, 2007 - 11:58pm by keela_harris

Keela here!

Things have been moving pretty quickly as usual for the cheerleaders. Summers always seem to fly and before we know it the season has begun! Year round’ we are able to spend time in and throughout the community on promotions or charities; yet around this time of the year, well, everything just seems to pick up the pace.

As we all feel the heat of the season upon us I usually feel a mixture of overwhelming excitement to get out on that field for another season of Broncos football and anxiousness to get our first game underway. Our rehearsals are packed full of everything we can manage to fit in, including but not limited to, continuation of learning new material, cleaning existing choreography and maintaining technique. All of this anticipation left me feeling the need for a little something different to relax and re-focus my attention before our first game this upcoming weekend…and I wasn’t the only one.

We’re Back!

August 2nd, 2007 - 11:03am by keela_harris

We made it back safe and sound from Pro Dance in Palm Springs, and it definitely charged us up for the season! We worked with some of the most exceptional choreographers in the industry bringing some of the most exclusive and innovative material to the front lines; we are so excited to bring our new routines to the field for game day this season!

I really think one of the most unique parts about the entire experience was the opportunity to dance side-by-side with so many talented men and women in the industry—including my fellow teammates. Teams from all over brought representatives to learn material to take back to their fans nationwide! We were able to spend time with cheerleaders, dancers and representatives from the NFL (Falcons, Colts and Patriots were all in attendance), NBA and NHL.

Getting Ready for the Season!

July 26th, 2007 - 10:33am by keela_harris

Good morning, Broncos fans!

We sure have some new and exciting adventures coming up. Today we actually begin shooting our 2007 Denver Broncos cheerleader poster. For those of you who have been in the Broncos fan arena for a while you know that in past years the cheerleaders have always shot the poster at a different location around beautiful Colorado–such as the mountains or the stadium (old and new). However, for the past four or five years, as our team has grown to 34 members, we have begun taking the photos at a photography studio in the area and have also incorporated a separate backdrop.  Our posters are done in segments, in essence, by taking about five girls at a time.  After all of the groups of five or six have been shot they put all of us together to create the final product!
