By now every Denver Broncos fan is well aware of all the changes that have been made in advance of the 2009 National Football League season.
One of the exciting things about change is that it has a dynamic all to itself. There is just so much energy around the team right now, and that bounces onto everyone who comes into contact with Josh McDaniels and the players.
We should never spend any time right now worrying about the results. The results take care of themselves, it’s the preparation that is key. Just like in a classroom setting, if the time, effort, preparation and study are focused and strong, the results usually take care of themselves.
That’s how it is in the NFL as well, and this team and coaching staff is really putting hard work into the process.
There are 45 new players under contract to the Broncos at this time. That number represents draft choices, veteran free agents and undrafted free agents signed right after this year’s college player draft concluded.
Since the days of the 80-man roster, I cannot recall as many new players wearing Bronco uniforms.
They are all different as to height, weight, age and position, but one common theme is the kind of character and attitude each of these new players brings to the team.
The focus is all about hard work, detail, preparation and teamwork.
Certainly, these are values preached everywhere, but it is obvious to members of the organization and to the media covering the team on a daily basis how strongly this is both emphasized and represented by this group.
When a whole team of players is on the same page in that regard, that makes the dynamic of change and the possibility of success very exciting.
The old adage that “you can’t tell the players without a scorecard,” popularized by turn of the century (no, not the old one, the older old one) ballpark hawkers before pro football was even created, has never been more true in Denver since the 1980′s.
But there is plenty of talent here, and the attitude is fresh and moving forward like an all-engulfing fog.
The positive vibe just scoops up everything in its path and carries it along.
This is going to be a very exciting training camp at our Dove Valley headquarters beginning late July, and the four preseason games will garner a local buzz that we have not had in some time.
It’s always fun to share growth and development as a community, and that’s no different for those sporting communities to which we all belong. The writers and broadcasters covering the 2009 Broncos will not lack for story lines, and the almost 100% renewal rate on season tickets guarantees the 40th consecutive sellout season in the Mile High City.
There’s a new culture engulfing the team and city. The coming season will show us all once again that you can’t stand in the way of electricity when sparks begin to fly.

For the first time in 15 years, this is not my old Broncos team. We’re definitely entering into the unknown.
AsianOrange your Bronco team hasn’t been to the playoffs in years…. And the last time your Broncos were in a Super Bowl Elway was hoisting the trophy over 10 years ago. Since the second super bowl win we have won one playoff game, which was at home against New England… and let’s be honest Bronco fans if Champ Bailey doesn’t make that interception at the goal line we probably lose that game. AsianOrange it was time for change.
Well said broncochick1
Middle of the road might as well be the bottom of the barrell (at least they get good draft picks) – I remember all of the pouting that took place when we signed Shannahan – but nobody was upset with the results of that change… Bring the electricity and excitement back. It is nice to feel like we have a chance…
I dont think that asianorange is saying anything bad, because I think it was time for a change, but this is a really extreme change and in all honestly we dont know what we are going to get this season.
because our offense is going to be new scheme. defense going to a 3-4, and we will have simms of orton at qb, Im not saying its going to be bad we could be the biggest surprise in the league this season.
No team has game tape on our team because anything from the past is worthless so we arent the only ones not knowing what we are going to get
“The focus is all about hard work, detail, preparation and teamwork”… “never spend to much time worrying about the results”…. “it’s preparation that is the key”… well said Jim Saccomano!
It was time for a change and Coach McDaniels brings a new attitude plus a new sense of direction. Looking forward to the new season along with all the new coaching staff, players and fan base!!
First preseason game is only 10 weeks away !!!!
GO BRONCOS !!!!!!!!!!!!!
jde_07 I wasn’t saying that this year is going to be all roses for the broncos. It may be a rough year no doubt. There is a lot of questions on this squad and we will just have to wait for the season because the proof will be on the field. I’m just tired of being a team stuck in mediocrity. I want to be back at the top and for the past 10 years we have been stuck in the middle.
Has anyone heard how Tom Brandstater is performing in practice?
Does anyone know where to get/find a Peyton Hillis Jersey? I live in San Diego, so it’s hard to find Broncos gear.
to broncofannsd- try to contact gart sporting goods in denver, they seem to have a great selection of jerseys. if not, just search “denver bronco jerseys”. there was a great broncos store on 16th strret mall or try to order from denver bronco store at investco stadium.
broncofannsd-you can get a jersey customized or pick from a list of current players on the Broncos at NFLshop.com.
broncofannsd:
I would check http://www.denverbroncos.com – I think they sell apparel!
Is it just me but am I the only person who still pissed Jay is not here and that McDaniels is our coach.
Welcometobroncocountry your probably the only person
welcome….country, most people have come to the conclusion that we are better off with out them. maybe not today. shanny was 500% over the last 3 years and cutler was good but even with his arm he could not get it done. and thats all i’m going to say b/c i don’t want it to start all over again.
I am angry that Jay is gone but if he was gonna have a piss-poor attitude then he was as good as gone from the beginning because Pat Bowlen hired McD and he isnt going anywhere for at least 2-3 years.
In other news, I am excited for our QB situation in 3 years. Hopefully Brandstater will be the next big Tom in the NFL, as said by a couple articles and magazines i have read. Also, if our d-line can hold up this year i bet that our defense will be an extreme surprise. With Ayers at Will, DJ at Jack, Davis at Mike, and Doom at Sam our LB corp. should be astounding, and should resemble the youthful times of the New England reign.
not 500% it .500 or said as “500″
did u guys read what Tiny Dungy said about CRY-BABY cutler. he said he is not mature enough to be a leader.
Tony Dungy
Cutler been gone for 2 months and just yesterday SportsCenter admitted that Chicago doesnt have the receivers just really take advantage of Jay Cutlers throws. Now they want Buress(actually Cutler wants Buress lol) and no one really wants to take a shot at Buress(Except for Buress himself) Then today Tony Dungy said that Cutler doesnt have the leadership abilities and isnt mature to be an effective QB. Jay already got some hate in Chicago because he wont sign autographs. We really have no idea how well Orton is going to do here, in Chicago he basically had no OL and subpar recievers. Cutler had an outstanding OL and above average receivers. Its going to be interesting to see both QBs perform this season.
boy i did not think any one was on here. but let soneone bring up cutler and the doors open.
broncoboy2012 ya, ok, my bad. lol
Here’s the link on Dungy story —
http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/news/story?id=4230086
i think Cutler and the bears can win the super bowl if they get past dallas, philly, ny-g, alt, n o, s f, seat, ect. ect. and the AFL team doesnot show up.
texark-fan I think part of it is after awhile you just repeating yourself and unless theres new info like a player being signed or released theres really not much to talk about. Jim and Gray are doing an outstanding job of keeping us posted on whats happening in passing camps, but a lot of stuff is going to happen in July I can say this board is going to be more active then when Cutler was traded.
Welcome – definitely not the only person – but there are becoming fewer and fewer who are displeased. I for one was confused and a bit disappointed at first, but after seeing that Jay was happy to be on the team he grew up rooting for, and realizing that team wasn’t Ours, I’m totally over him – and Josh may well be the best coach this team has seen yet (at least this optimist is going to err on the side of positivity, if indeed I err).
Great post Jim!!
And Broncochick1, Tom is participating at practices, from my understanding, just not running the “no. 1″ (first string) reps.
Jde_07 – that is the most valid point of all – not a single team out there has ANY idea what we will be capable of – less than 10 weeks!?!? What a way to look at it, here I am thinking two long months, 10 weeks makes it seem shorter somehow.
Thanks Everyone!! Orange Crush is back!
I watched alot of Bears games last year (cuz I, uh-hum, drafted Matt Forte in the later rounds of my fantasy league) to see how Forte was looking, and I couldn’t help but notice how accurate Orton was. And he basically had an Eddie Royal type guy in Hester (although Eddie is more of a solid receiver) and not much else. Now he has a whole arsenal at his disposal, plus a stout offensive line. Add in Moreno and Hillis to pound the rock, and I see big things happening for us this year. Of course, I’m also aware that we’re in a rebuilding mode, but I truely believe we’re gonna contest for the division title this year. I’m slowly becoming a believer in the Kool-Aid McDaniels is pouring.
This is funny Bill Plaschke on Around the Horn said that the only reason Dungy said that Cutler was acting immature was because he was sticking up for McDaniels…yeah okay another person who hasnt seen the light.

I for one dont care anymore about cutler. I just want to watch some FOOTBALL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
1golfdoc and emaldo – thanks for the ideas. I will check them out. Through hell or high water, I am going to find a Hillis Jersey. The kid is a stud!!
It’s been awhile since I last blogged on here. I’ll admit that I was really disappointed in Bowlen and McD for the whole Cutler fiasco, but the more I’ve thought about it I realized that Cutler turned his back on this team and the fans. He is a great talent, but has a lot of maturing to do. Bottom line, Cutler is gone, so let’s move on. I am beyond excited for the season and I think our beloved Broncos will surprise a lot of people this year. Although I disagreed with the changes at first, I think all the changes have been for the better. There seems to be a passion and excitement from the players and team overall that has been lacking the past few years.
Go Broncos!!!!!!!!!!!
We need to stop talking about Cutler, and just start thinking about our new offense…i’ve been waiting to run the spread offense..Shanahan kept running the bootlegs and 2 or 3 receivers…shanahan ran a spread when we were down big, and we looked good, wish we stuck to it…im excited about Orton, and hope he wins the job..im not a big simms fan..so now we have a new still young qb, and rb with moreno, and eddie royal and marshall, with a great offensive line…i will be taking Orton as my fantasy qb…dump to moreno if all else fails…LOL..and broncochick, im tired of the average seasons as well, especially last year losing 3 in a row…new coach, new attitude..evryone playing for a position…CANT WAIT!!!!!!
OH,
and im really excited about the attack defense that the Broncos are going to be running…attack…attack…attack…here we come
Who’s this Culter character everyone keep mentioning?
I dont know the only Jay Cutler I know is a bodybuilder.
Tony Dungy is my hero and he is a great man in various ways. Thus if he says Cutler’s attitude sucks, you can be assured it does. It will be a baptism of fire for our friend Jay once he realizes there’s no weapons at his disposal. Hmmm Forte left, Forte right. That’s what you get for whining, Jay. We’ll do just fine in our progression toward a championship.
A lot of the sports reporters have been dissing McDaniels for the moves that he has made. Some of them I even questioned especially immediately after he became the head coach. All the Bears fans are acting like we’re idiots for trading..what’s his name. The draft analysists say that we didn’t draft the proper players to help the D. To be honest I’m quite tired of hearing it all. What’s done is done and nothing or nobody can change the path were hauling a$$ down now. I do know that for McDaniels not to go and draft a defense says something about what he sees and what he thinks our current players can do with their ability. Yeah last season wasnt’ the greates for D but or coordinator wasn’t as aggressive as he should have been..”imo” and he had some key injuries.
To read these articles about how the team is gelling together and having fun and stuff is very reasuring.
Sorry I just needed to vent, it seems like the only crap I read is someone crapping on the Broncos for the offseason moves. Let’s stop talking about, what’s his name, he is no longer a Broncos. To be honest I don’t think in his heart he was ever a Bronco.
Blue and Orange forver!!!!
Until this team beats the crap out of San Diego, this team isn’t going anywhere! Thinking of that last game makes me sick in the stomach. Nuff said… let’s get this season started already and see where this kid is going to lead us.
broncofannsd just google Peyton Hillis Jersey and you will get all sorts of sites that sell them.
I just signed up for the fantasy league as well, one question would everyone be apposed to doing an automated draft, I think with 20 teams and all of us living in different areas it is difficult to sit down and do a live online draft. I am just in it for fun so I have no problem with an auto draft. As a matter of fact the last two years this is what my league did and I won one year and finished second the other. Let me know what you guys think.
Great blog Jim, always great to get your opinion. While I’m still not sold completely on our new head coach, I see a lot of similarities with this team and Shannahans first year here. I actually think this team is more talanted than the one that Shanny took over and my even have more heart. Look for us to compete this year (though it will likely be up and down). As for the experts writing us off already, remember this team was very talanted the last few years and has only gotten more talent and competition this offseason, but where we will prove the “experts” wrong is in being able to utilize our players a bit better (especially on defense where weve been underscheming for years). I look foreward to watching a more complete and competative team this year. Now if I can just get over these blasted football withdrawls (my doctor tells me there is no medications for this).
Hmmm, let’s see – We get a coach that mentored Brady and Cassell, we get a new system that says no one is better than anyone else, we get players with the intelligence to learn the system, we switch to a 3-4 D, we get a great RB, we got ERoy and BMarsh, etc. Now that all the players have bought into the plan, I am excited that we could become the Pats West. The system can take inexperienced, untested players (Cassell) and make them function efficiently. Imho, McD is a good judge of talent and comes with a system that works. I think most have a high regard for Nolan’s type D that he brings. SO let’s get it on and go for it. I bleed Blue & Orange!
i loved jay cutler, no doubt. his arm strength is what made him a good quarterback. he did some good things while in denver. except win. he was 17-20. now he is gone because mcdouchebag screwed him over. but i look back and jake plummer’s career. not an outstanding player and threw a lot of picks (so did cutler), but his leadership skills impressed me. and not to mension he was 39-15 as a starter. now this is MY OPINION and is what i think.
BRING BACK THE SNAKE!!!
hay, if your gona bring back the snake make it KEN STABLER.
yes, shanny was a little off the day he pulled jake and put in cutler. we were like 7-4 and on our way to the playoffs. jake was/is our winingest q/b.
dont remind me about ken stabler. the man was a good quarterback but since he played for the hated raiders, im not even gonna mention him. im not saying shanny made a mistake in starting cutler, but he had to realize how well plummer lead the team. yes, he did have the best running game in football that made him more valuable, but it was TD that made Elway a champion.
shanny should have let jake play the rest of the season, anyway
How bout we declare that Cutlers’ name never be mentioned in these blogs again? He’s gone….lets move on people……
LBWilson56, I’m with you. I’m getting burned out reading the “they should have done this” and “they should have done that.” SHOULDA’, COULDA’, WOULDA’, DIDN’T! Geez, guys, move on already. Let us never again speak the name that should not be uttered. Under penalty of death, ha, ha.
ken stabler was one of the best. could come to the game with a big hangover, call his oun plays and still win the game. even though i am a bronco fan I still realize that other teams have great players, and not just the ones in HOF. Look at the old vikings 0-4 in superbowl but had one hell-of-a team marshall, tarkington, forman. Talk about people getting no respect the bills 0-4 vikings 0-4 and broncos 0-4 in superbowls. if espn was on tv they would not have said anything good about those teams either.
if shannygone? wants to talk about and admit to every one that he has a new look at the things that have happened this winter and is seeing a bright light ahead, this is good. many other people want to come out and say what he did, but do not have the guts to do so. the fans were 70/30 that bowlen had lost his mind. It would be good to think that now at least 99% are behind him again. Just look at his name, you can figure he is not sure. A lady got on for the first time (about a wk ago) just to speak her mind about this winter. Just becouse you and me have hashed this out all spring, there are going to be a lot of people that are coming on to give their thoughts. We should talk to them and let them get it off their chest. and names are going to be brought up until other names win the big game.
boy i did not think that i could type this much without saying SIMMS. LOL
I know this is going to be a change for us longtime Broncos fans. I am looking forward to seeing what McDaniels is going to put on the field. From what I have read thus far it seems that things are coming together but then again there is a major difference when you are in helmets and shorts and looking to elude that defender who is out there to knock the crap out of you. Bronco Country lets get ready for a very unpredictable season.
I am soooooooo stoked about the coming season! Went to the Broncos Fan Fair this past Saturday, June 6, and could feel the electricity there. I had the time of my life! Thanks to ALL the players and coaches for making my B Day so AWESOME! Love Da BOYZ!!! GO BRONCOS!!!! JJ
A former bronco recently said that Shanny spent four years explaning that Dale Carter was a street thug and a person with such a low personal character would never be a bronco, and then Shanny made him the highest paid person on the team. After that, how could you as a player respect what he says? He definitely needed to go. Coach McD treats everybody the same, just ask Brady. When you are dealing with a straight shooter you can at least respect what he has to say. Imagine how the big baby Culter would be reacting if he had to be treated like every other player on the team, what a cancer! He had to go as well. At this point I don’t care how many games they win, just as long as the players are giving it up for each other. A team moving forward together is much better then a bunch of guys winning games. Come on guys, do me proud!
