Before we turn the page to 2013 for the Denver Broncos and the new National Football League season, we can take one final, last blog dealing with Monday Morning Manning.
From day one with the Broncos, Peyton Manning’s accomplishments have been extreme both in terms of their high level as well as the extraordinary volume.
And the last weekend of the season was no exception to this.
Even though the Broncos were not in the NFL championship game, Manning was in New Orleans for the league Saturday night honors show, and his statistics in terms of honors are just like his stats on the playing field—absolutely dominating, and they speak volumes about his status in the game.
Manning was named the 2012 AP Comeback Player of the Year with 31.5 votes, ahead of Adrian Peterson of Minnesota (17.5).
He is the first Bronco to be named AP Comeback Player of the Year, and this is the fifth straight year quarterback has won the award.
But also:
Manning became the first quarterback to be named Comeback Player of the Year as well as first team All-Pro.
Among all players, Manning and WR Steve Smith (2005) are the only players to be named to the Comeback award as well as first team All-Pro.
Manning finishes second to Peterson for the 2012 AP MVP award, with Manning receiving 19.5 votes to Peterson’s 30.5. No other player got a vote.
His 19.5 votes are the most ever for an AP Comeback Player of the Year winner—the next closest was Miami QB Chad Pennington, who got four votes in 2008.
Manning’s 19.5 MVP votes are a greater total for four actual MVP winners (2005, ’03, ’02, 1997) in the current voting format, which began in 1997.
This year marks the eighth time Manning has finished in the top three of AP MVP voting. The NFL’s only four time winner of the MVP award (2003, ’04, ’08 and ’09), he was also the runner up in 2012, 2005, and 1999, finishing third in 2006.
This is the ninth time in Manning’s 14 seasons played in which he has received at least one MVP vote. Just think: that means that in nine of his seasons there was at least one voter out of the 50 who considered Peyton Manning the NFL MVP.
And this one is amazing to think about—for his career, Manning has garnered a total of 180 Associated Press MVP votes—the highest total by any player in at least the last 25 years and most likely in the entire history of the award, which was first given in 1957.
Just an astonishing set of statistics showing his perceived value to MVP voters, but these stats are just like those he produces regularly on the field.
Incredible, and one of a kind.
That’s it for Monday Morning Manning for 2012.
It is time to move forward to our new season.

Jim,
You do some very interesting articles on old time Broncos who are totally unknown to the newer fans. How about when you go back to “the good old days” that you do an article on the South Stands Super Fans organization. We had a lot of grear times and memorable get togethers.
I’m surprised that no one really is mentioning that T Sizzle Drilled PDog in our Playoff game and after that hit PDog failed to throw a single pass of 20+ yards…
I understand that my football IQ is not as high as some here, but as a casual fan the fact that PDog got hurt and couldn’t perform to the best of his ability should be at least considered, both in the 3rd and 7 Decision, and in the decision to kneel at the end of the game rather than try for a decisive field goal…
The admittance of the fact that Peyton got hurt would reflect poorly on the organization (even though the scope of the injury was outside of the original concern, the general public would undoubtedly tie the two together and use it as an instance of how does Lou put it… Vindication, however unwaranted)
Fact is… Peyton was Peyton, he had a QBR of 59 in the playoff loss and that is typical of the body of work that he has demonstrated over the course of his career… Great Stats against sub-par opposition in the regular season and a tendancy to really Suck it up when the pressure is on…
This team needs BEEF…. There was times yesterday when BAL lined up 4 guys of over 310 pounds and said ‘I dare you to run…’ and Kap showed he still has alot to learn about football however talented he may be…
LONG STORY SHORT… BRING US SOME BEEEF
Vegas has the Broncos at 8 to 1 favorites to win the SB next year in New York. Only N.E. and S.F. have better odds as it stands at this point.
So is Willis McGahee a Denver Bronco in 2013? It remains to be seen. If not, we need a big RB.
I for one enjoyed this season and look forward for 2013. Thanks Denver Broncos.
Go Broncos!!! Go JohnJohn elfoxway!!!
GREAT article about a great QB. Peyton is your QB get use to it and stop blaming him for the loss IT WAS A Team LOSS get it. He is the teams quickest route to the super bowl why dont you change teams if you dont like how its run. The man is one of the best to ever play the game. He will be better this year having played a year with his receivers. If he had chosen San Fran he would be celebrating a super bowl today.. and you would have been talking about how Tebow only won 5 games all year and cant pass at all but a nice man. cant wait for next year go Broncos.
LOL just like I said on the last blog! Nothin but stats for Manning…..the only difference from last year, was one less playoff game and a lower draft pick…big whoop. Put in Osweiler so we can see some heart!
Karenjaff49 Nothing great was accomplished this year for the Broncos as an organization…we did nothing more than last year, Peyton is done and will be even more tired next year!
Yes. Much thanks to all who were involved in any part of this amazing season. It was a whole lot of fun…as a great game should be for it’s patrons. It ended very much like the ’96 season, and I hope and pray that the next two seasons will be even greater than the ’97 and ’98 seasons were for us. I truly believe that they may well be. And thanks, especially, to Mr. Bowlen, John Elway and Peyton Manning: I believe that the decisions you’ve made, and the commitment you’ve shown this past season, will take this Broncos team to greater heights than this franchise has ever seen, over these next two seasons…and beyond!!
Thanks for the great fun it is to be a Denver Bronco fan!
And, thanks, for the memories.

88 winning more games is meaningless? You have to win to make the playoffs. If you dont see an improvement then nothing can show it to you. you already made up your mind. However, for the rest of us, we know we fielded a better team. Not making the SB doesnt change that.
Last offseason we were looking at unknown, this year we are looking at being a dominate force and a true favorite to win a SB.
For a guy who is “done” Manning worked harder at relearning how to throw a football in one year then the Ultimate Teamate has done in three.
Thinking we are no closer because we were eliminate in the same round as last year is just a lazy argument and you know it.
@880:
Technically our draft standing this year is almost the same as last years’. Our first round BYE is just like winning last years first wildcard round…IMO..too lazy to research..
This year we showed we are the team to beat.Next year I am confident we will be much better.
Ok: no doubt we need the best defensive player available.
If we were in a situation where either of these players fall to us in the first round, who would you pick?
-DT Jesse Williams
-DT Johnathan Hankins
-DT-John Jenkins
-ILB- Manti Teo
-ILB-Kevin Minter
-DB-Kenny Vaccaro
Not much of an argument, and Os will be sitting for another 3 or four more years. Thats why they play the games. Theres no promises to winning the SB but you gotta try. We’re building for RIGHT NOW to win it all. I have a good feeling about these next few years ahead with Peyton at the helm. We need to shore up our D in a few spots. Elway and Fox will have a good game plan for this off season. It’ll be cool to watch it all unfold.
Two players I am very high on…
1st Round- ILB Kevin Minter
2nd Round-DE- Margus Hunt
I’d draft Jenkins. We need big beef up the middle!
Margus Hunt is a freak of nature. One thing about him though, he didn’t do so well shedding off his blocks during senior bowl week of practices from what I heard. He’ll just have to work on that with the team who drafts him is all. Hunt will be a stud DE in the NFL.
B20… if we ended up with both of those guys I’d be tickled Orange and Blue…
I prefer a DT like Jenkins in the first… but I wouldn’t complain if we sign a BEEFCAKE in FA and draft Minter… Hunt would be a Bonus!! Raw talent, but might be worth a 2nd (prefer to spend a 3rd on him and get a OL with our 2)
Strand, I wouldnt say we are building for “right now”. That would mean we have leveraged future success for present success. Elway has not done so. This team has been built for sustained success which is much better. Being in the playoffs every year gives you a shot.
The Ravens may have one the SB but they were not the “best” team in the turnament but they still won it all. probability is funny that way but you have to get to the post season first.
Yea I like drafting BEEF in first round…rarely do we see teams letting go of prime DTs in FA.
Hunt is massive for a DE. With measures like Watt, he could be just as disruptive if polished. I’d imagine moving Wolfe back to DT. Kevin Minter is a stud. And Jenkins makes a lot of sense.. this is tough
RH709 The reason we signed Manning was to have a better chance at getting to the SB and until we get farther in the playoffs its all for not, except to suck the money out of the fans pockets and line their own. Ive bled Orange and Blue since the 70′s when Craig Morton was our QB, Im a fan to the end and never miss a game, but I know a scam when I see one, bringing in Peyton is no different than Minnesota bringing in Favre…got them no where! wasted thier money. You need to draft smart and groom a young talented QB that will be with you from beginning to end like Elway was….not some old goat that dosent really care but just wants to play because he dosent wanna watch from the couch yet. If you really watched the game you’d know that and want that too and not just want some flash in the pan thats only playing for his own future hall of fame BS. Talk about lazy, your just swallowing what the media tells to eat instead of thinking for yourself and seeing the big Pic for what it is. Dont dis me because I see it different than you, if I was lazy than Id just swallow your BS like they want you to.
A True fan suffers through the growing pains of a QB coming of age….not just wanting a quick fix.
Hahaha swallow the media BS. funny. I dont watch espn cause they suck. I will watch nfl network for entertainment but not for the “analysis”.
Manning wants a SB trophy. End of story.
I have no problem with growing pains if there is growth happening. That was not and is not happening with Tebow. Until this year DMT didnt even know how to run every route on the route tree and it didnt matter last year cauee Tebow couldnt make a read anyway. Plays were improvised not orcastrated. This isnt the school yard.
Elway is building a team that will continue to be successful even after Manning is gone. I expect two more years from Manning. If he is still playing at a high level by then and wants to continue, expect Denver to trade Oz and draft another project. If Manning is done after two, Oz has studied his ass off.
I get my NFL info from sources outside tge main stream. BTW Favre took the vikings pretty far the first year.
I’m personally extremely happy that my team will open up the wallet to bring in the best talent with the goal of winning the Super Bowl. We fell short this year, but so did 31 other teams. To say this year was a failure is a bit harsh IMO, but I do sincerely hope we hold off on all the pep rallies next year while we’re still in the playoffs…..
I agree that the draft is absolutely paramount, but in today’s game, so is free agency. Long gone are the days that a player plays his entire career with the same team, as that would be the exception nowadays, not the rule. Sad but true.
Hola OT!
time for Hockey Bro!!! Go AVS!!! (haha, bet you;re glad you don’t cheer for the Avs!!!)
88……….IF you expected to see a SB win for Denver in the 1st year of Manning being back and with a new team then sir, you know nothing of football.
Young WR’s with up to 2012 no QB teaching them what they need to know to be the best they can be and produce above their talent lvl, an Offensive line that got for an entire year to pin their ears back and pound on D front 7′s with no worry about protecting a pocket passer..A defense that had been worn down after years of worthless offensive output and a coaching staff trying to find it’s footing and identity as a team after the Mcdaniels destruction…….YET YOU WANT A CHAMPIONSHIP IN THEIR FIRST SEASON??????????????????????????????
Then when it doesn’t happen you A) point the finger at Manning, when any chimp who watched that game could argue a better explanation than “it was an old man who needs to sit”. FFS that defense got beat deep 3 times and nearly got beat deep 7……..They could not stop the run, hit flaco less times than they got beat deep and when needed a stop could not produce. The Offense had no flow, the run game was mute, peyton was being pressured, receivers were dropping open passes, and in the end Peyton was trying to force it LIKE ELWAY USED TO! The only true highlight of that game was ST’s.
Don’t sit there and blame 1 guy……that’s as ignorant as voting for Obama for a 2nd time….
‘that’s as ignorant as voting for Obama a 2nd time….’ LOL PRICELESS!!!!
I can’t blame any fan for wanting to win… I see exactly where 88 is coming from. There was no Plan B. We pay good money as fans to keep the NFL what we have all grown to love…
In many many preseason debates we argued the value of Regular Season success against the history of Peyton in the Post season and fans like 88 and I were told it was all good because Peyton was the man… Some never argued his talent level, and for those that did they probably were more frustrated than anything, what we argued was PDog’s ability to actually carry a team in the Post Season like a Great QB has too… Bob Sanders carried the Colts through the Playoffs the year the Colts did win it all, and a close eval of the numbers will show exactly what I’m talking about if you take the time to crunch them…
I love to see Denver win games… and for 13 weeks this season we were in heaven, that’s five more than last year, and in retrospect, the year before we went from 4-12 to 8-8, and then from 8-8 to 13-3, so obviously the team is improving and that should be comforting for most… it is for me. But I’m one of the Denver Die Hards that won’t give Manning a free pass, he had a QBR of 59 in the game against the Ravens… It was a total team loss, but as with any type of team sport, when the team loses the leaders are held accountable, and not a single person on the blog would deny the fact that Peyton is the undisputed leader of this team on the field…
I am personally loving the conversation here lately!!! (well, most of it!)
B-R-O-N-C-O-S BRONCOS BRONCOS BRONCOS!!!
DT Terrance Knighton
CB Derek Cox
There’s your BEEF and a Very good number 2 corner
RH, why argue with a topic that isn’t worth arguing over. I wouldn’t give it the time of day. He’s beating a dead horse. A freaken joke if you ask me. Theres better stuff to talk about with the scouting combine and FA in the near future. I’m very confident that we’ll be in the mix next season and no one can TELL ME different! SCREW THAT NOISE!
While i dont agree 880 some things are just facts. We lost in the same round of the playoffs. And last year almost all the blame fell on Tebow even tho the team was owned. Also Tebow was said to only able to succeed on a weak schedule, tho this year the broncos didn’t play anyone over 500 except for the 3 teams we lost to (and maybe 1 or 2 others). Equally weak schedule. Not saying this to say Tebow would have been the better route, or that im not elated to have manning, or that the trade was wrong or watever. Thats mute, already happened. I am saying this to say how different perspectives are based on your bias for the QB in charge (whether positive or negative). I do believe this team was vastly better than last years and we will only get better. We have a short window with manning so we gotta make it count. Thats why I want quality in the draft. Would even support moving up if we want to Maximize our time with Peyton. And with each year that passes, his knowledge remains the same but his physical skils and endurance detiriorate so based on that, we could possibly have a less stellar manning next season.
Later days,
TRB
Right you are Strand. Right you are.
btw: I am high on Minter as well
Good morning strand – Hope all is well down the in Springs bro! Looking foward to the combine and F/A as well.
Oh yeah & warm weather…lol.
TRB- you’re writing skills have not diminished in the least.. always enjoy reading your input.
Good Morning RBF1. Thanks
Can’t wait for the Draft and FA, possibly one of the most exciting times for me. Combine is in about 2-3 weeks too i believe. Already febuary in the new year. Im just ready to forget what happened in the 2012 season and i cannot wait for when NFL.com moves from all this ravens coverage to offseason coverage. Currently a Ravens parade going on right now … I can tell you which MD native will not be there lol
TRB
This is funny to me:
ESPN and John Clayton are already claiming that Denver has a weak schedule next year. For the record, they started last year by saying we had the toughest schedule then ended by saying we had a weak one. Conclusion: the NFL is way too dynamic with players, coaches draft, FA and other events happening year to year. There is no way to know what teams are up and what teams are down and therefore no way or reason to predict future strength of schedule. If it is for fun and postulation that is one thing but claiming it as fact is asinine.
Oh ESPN, how you have fallen from grace. Clayton is terrible.
Morning Royal!
RH, I like your mindset. To argue with such a thing and with a newbie at that. Its just not worth it bro! Theres better topics to debate about. LOL
Good morning TRB!
Our home games are weak teams and the road games are brutal. Thats the way the ball bounces. LOL
The Combine starts Feb. 20
Good Day to you Strand
I agree, predicting strength of schedule is meaningless. Cuz teams change every single year and people aren’t as impressive as you expected. Not to mention some team start of slow and end hot, so if u played them earlier in the year it was like playing bums but if u had played them later when they jelled it was like playing gods. Mix that with the fact that every loss you as a good team deals to one of your opponents is another loss to put them under 500. So would they really ave been under 500 if they never played u if they end 7-9 or something? Only think strength of schedule is good for is when it comes to deciding who is going to the playoffs if it gets all the way down to THAT tie breaker. Thats how i view it anyway.
We don’t call it any given sunday for no reason
TRB
And is our schedule next year actually “weak” as they say or is it only weak because we are a strong team. I mean, if not factoring in “any given sunday”, only about 4 teams based on skill can go toe to toe with us, SO not unless we play all of them 4 times in a season, the schedule will most likely be considered weak… right? lol. And our schedule is probably considered weak because they consider the AFC west the weakest division, but who is to say the Andy Reid Chiefs and the McCoy Chargers don’t resurge? lol
(only 4 teams was just an example, its probably closer to 6)
TRB
I think we play a gnarly schedule in 2013! What does Clayton mean easy?! LOL
Right now the projection of the SB of 2014 is S.F. vs Denver.
I’m with you there TRB, because in that case you are looking backwards. It is still tainted as you said because you have dealt a loss to some teams and in essence changed them but for seeding tiebreakers, it is a good tool.
Broncos Schedule 2014
Home; S.D. K.C. Oakland, Tennessee, Jax, Baltimore, Philadelphia, and Washington.
Away; S.D. K.C. Oakland, Houston, Indianapolis, N.E. Dallas, N.Y. Giants.
Well said about the teams that can beat us TRB.
The thing that makes the NFL so difficult is the “any given Sunday” thing. If you look at it from the probability side, in order to truly find who is the “best” team they would have to play like baseball does. Best of seven. Of course this is not feasible with a game that is so brutal on the human body.
The Ravens did win the SB. No arguing that but I still do not believe they were the “best” team in the playoffs. more like 5th or 6th of 12. They beat the odds to beat Denver, NE and SF. So really, good for them. That is impressive. However, if you played more games so that the outliers happen but don’t have such a drastic effect on the outcome then the Ravens don’t make it to the SB.
I am not trying to take away from what they accomplished, just making the point that once you get to the playoffs, you don’t actually have to be the best team to get to or win the SB. So once you make the top 6 in the conference, it is anyone’s game.
This circles back to saying we are no better off then last year. That is a crap argument. Did we get any further than last year? No. Are we a better team? Undeniably so. The future is bright.
The future is really bright for our team!
new blog
We play both BMORE and DC next year … and BOTH HOME .. COME ON! Sheesh, they coulda given me at least on of those game sigh,
Is it just me or do we always play NE? lol
TRB
