Thank you, Jim, for such an engaging rememberance of that far gone league.....the AFL. I would invite anyone reading this to stop by my Broncoscountry page, as it is mostly dedicated to this era of football that Mr. Saccomano speaks of. There are photos of Frank Tripucka, Lionel Taylor and Goose Gonsoulin, to name a few. The New York Titans were one of the early clubs which helped pioneer the pro football scene in the United States, and have an interesting early history just like the Broncos. While Mr. Howsam no doubt did the best he could under the circumstances with the Broncos in 1960, so too did Titans owner Harry Wismer, having to play at the ramshackle Polo Grounds in New York. Early Titan standouts like HOF'er Don Maynard and Larry Grantham were every bit as good as players in the NFL, and help make the AFL legacy that much more special.

Thanks, Jim,

I'm an amatuer historian on the NFL (at least I'm trying to be but as a 25-year old, I have to rely on the NFL Fact & Record Book for much of my knowledge) and I really appreciate these glimpses into the past. Extenuating circumstances forced me to listen to the Colts-Falcons game on Westwood One tonight, but it was nice as Dick Enberg & Dennis Green did a marvelous job with the call. These games each had their own sense of beauty to them today and I hope we can smack the Bears this Sunday. Thanks again.
