This time of the year is one in which we are in the midst of four weeks of field work, first a couple of weeks of quarterback camp, then two weeks of team camp, although there are a prescribed number of maximum days that teams can spend on the field in the offseason.
And the media is busy during this time as well, getting interviews and setting the ground work for future interviews as well.
You can read and view a lot about both new and old players on this web site, of course.
The PR department is busy working with the media, coordinating where they can go, etc., but also getting much of our own work done, inclduing getting the new head shots taken for our media guide and other publications.
Veteran team photographer Eric Bakke is taking those pictures, and Eric is truly the pro’s pro–he has been my photographer for 20 years.
Rebecca Villanueva, our Media Services Manager, works with Eric in making sure every player is properly identified, has a jersey on and has no unusual clothing items underneath.
A common theme expressed by everyone in my department, including Eric and Rebecca, who have had to deal with every new guy, is that this is a great bunch of people in terms of attitude, politeness, promptness and how they treat other people.
I have had the same sense as the players are coming off the field after each workout.
This is a very likeable group of players.
While that does not automatically translate into good performance, it doesn’t hurt, either.
And it shows that the player personnel department was on top of its game in how they identified every new player who was brought into the organization.
If you are a good guy off the field, you are probably a good one on the field as well.
And that benefits the entire organization and community.
We are in mid-camp mode at this time, so this has to be brief, but I had to pause long enough to relate my opinion via blog that this is a good bunch, and I have found that to be a very positive sign in the past.
My guess is it will prove out in 2008 as well.

Jim,
Thanks for more great comments. Like I have said before that is one of the things I have always loved about the Broncos. We tend to stay away from the problem children. I think if you get a bunch of good guys together they will bond faster and it will pay off in the long run.
Any chance at getting a blog to replace masons’s old one up soon? It would be nice to have a blog where the blogger interacts with the fans more and posts blogs daily. Thanks.
You know, I’ve noticed a real confidence in the player interviews thus far. I’m not sure I noticed anything that resembled confidence going into last season.
I am liking this season more and more! I live in Northern Cal, so I will be at the Monday Nigh game on opening day in Oakland. I’m going to cheer loudly, Raider fans can kiss my behind!
Tlynch…Awesome. Be carefull when you visit the black hole. Im in So Cal so I will be representing when we face the Chargers. Charger fans can kiss my &*% also.
Denver Broncos=class!
Good observation Tlynch. I see quiet confidence instead of bragadosio.
Agreed to Tlynch. But yeah I’m feeling more confident as well. It’s nice to see more people fighting for the starting position as well w/ all the depth we have too. I’m getting more and more excited everytime there is new stuff up…
I think the issue’s of this off-season are blessings in disguise. Marcus Thomas got a big reality check and now he is focused on football. He could really be the difference between Denver Defense being very good or suspect. Then u got B Marshal. He was quickly on his way to being the top young wideout in the entire league. The humility of his injury should keep him in check and speaking of checks we might not have been able to afford him if not for the injury and hopefully once the Broncos suites see he is going to be back full strength they should do his contract immediately. 1 thing that really goes unnoticed is very few teams that over pay at the wideout position make it to the promise land. Now we got my personal favorite TE (The Chef) with his foot. Hopefully if something is wrong we can find it now and get it taken care of in time for the regular season. Which is also a blessing because we need good depth at TE and this is a big reminder. Not everything that is bad is bad! The one thing I hope the Broncos get back to is having fun again. I know there is a lot of stress and heat on the Broncos but we win, when we are having fun! Hat day and humor will lead to the highlife! We have a great team we have a good staff lets have some fun this year and kick some but.
Please Pick up DT: Rod Coleman
I agree with you all! I keep thinking of Royal. I think this guy could be deadly. Sorry, but I have to get a few things off my chest.
Rivers! You freakin bottom feeder, I hope your QB play is as exciting as your character. Put that boy on his ass!!!
And Lynch, please before you retire from your amazing NFL career, could you do me 2 favors?
1. Put the smack ass on Javon for simply not knowing when to shut up. No your role ya one legged goof ball.
2. Jamarcus Russell needs to realize he’s in OUR division. Put some grass stains on his ass for simply thinking he could hold out on the Crypt Keeper. Yeah, Al Davis I’m talking to you!!
Lastly, can we PLEASE give Eddie Royal number 26? My Clinton Portis jersey went from him, to Tatum, then to Paul Smith.
p.s. D-Will memorial amazing! What a tribute! Nice job Broncos!
GO GET EM’ BOYS!
Please lay Javon out! Sounds like he it might not be in shape to even start but we will get a shot at him hopefully? Also lets start a Broncos Country fund for Lynch so next time you play the Safety position the way it is supposed to be played and separate the ball from the receiver we can cover some of the BS fine you get. Lynch you have a great responsibility to pass the torch to the next generation Broncos Safety to play the game like Dennis Smith, Steve Atwater, Kenoy Kennedy (He is at the bottom of the list, but was a very hard hitter while he was in Denver) and you the legendary John Lynch. I think Josh Barrett has the tools and the attitude. I hope with your guidance he could maybe carry on our great tradition?
I know you got a big fine for the Dallas Clark hit but because of that hit we won that game…period. It could be one of your last years please get a couple 15 yard penalties this year. I know it sounds crazy but if you do, I think it is the difference between 7-9 and holding the trophy. Thank you for your time…go Broncos!!!
I second the notion of a Lynch Mob Fund to pay fines for John and his sledgehammer hits. I really believe this is the year that teams like Indy, New England and any other spread Offense gets scared playing us. With the horrible year everybody had on defense last year I think there is a giant chip on the orginazations shoulders, I see Champ and Bly getting 20 picks together, also I see Lynch and Mcree getting 50-80 thousand dollars in fines this season, look for Mcree to get a couple against Waaa Diego. While on Offense Selvin will remind us of T.D. I think this year that Shanny will try to use Brandon much like Shannon Sharpe, I know what you all are thinking but here is the scoop we have 12 receivers on the roster half of which could possibly be a number one receiver in our scheme Brandon’s ability to block as a receiver makes him an excellent canidate to fill the shoes of Sharpe, I mean really take a long gander at this picture you have D. Jackson lined up outside with Marshall lined up just outside the end, Colbert will line up outside also with Royal in the slot put Young in the backfield and you have a matchup nightmare. This formation would make the defenders eyes pop out of their heads just trying to think on how to cover it. We could run Five plays out this formation and they would work everytime. I’m just sayin this formation reminds me of the stuff we did back in the day WIN we were KINGS.
Broncosfanatic4 at first I thought maybe you lost your mind. But then I read on. That does sound very interesting. I would like to see that a few times. I think you could definately give a few D-coordinator a nervous break down.
On a seperate note any of you fans out there who haven’t checked out this site. You are really missing out. It is a great replacement (for me) for the former Mason’s Morsels. Very responsive and really good information. Check it out!
http://www.milehighreport.com/
What do you all think of us possibly picking up Odell Thurman, the supremely talented MLB from Cincinnati. I know he has issues but we’ve dealt with those before, and shanny is the kind of coach that can straighten a guy like that out. Odell recorded over 100 tackles his rookie year and made that Cincinnati defense what it was when they were 11-5, they lead the league in interceptions. It’s just a thought but with him in the middle, DJ and Boss on the outside, we’ll once again have the fastest and most talented linebacking corp in the league again.
Hopefully there will be less distractions this season and Shanny will get that offensive imagination going again to keep defenses off balance. Last season and off-season, anything that could happen, did happen. I’m always thinking positive at the start of a new season, after all , with the Broncos winning history in the Shanahan era you can afford to be optomistic! GO BRONCOS !
Please update the record book
Dear Jim, (Broncos PR Dept)
Please BRING Mason back!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I’ve never suffered so much due to so LITTLE information or sounding board forum. With the DP going down the drain, and the RMN as useless as ever, we (Bronco Nation) deserve better than this…dont you think?
We’re loyal, we’re open and honest, and we keep this site hopping/lively. The faith instilled to us fans via Mason was incredible. The consistent quality of feedback was a Godsend for both the Broncos and us. I have to think what Mason did for Denver Broncos was invaluable, as he was the conduit, and the voice of PR, and info control. His services were priceless, and unbelieveably missed.
So, again I urge you guys to re-build what has been deconstructed. Give us a forum and voice, and a unifying dialogue that satisfies the needs of many.
Thank you…
Honestly, you all have good points. One that really shot out at me was Broncfalls blog. I wanna see Rivers shut up fast, and we have a healthy crop of D-linemen to do just that. Not to say Lynch couldn’t do it too!
We DID get some quality players with great attitudes as far as I can tell. I think the biigest part of that s that Shanny and the rest of the coaching staff can just worry about coaching and getting these guys ready for the season. Last year there were some off-field situations that we all know were in the back of the mind of Shanny and all of us. This year looks very promising with lots of depth. I belive very strongly that if we can stay healthy, we WILL be in the playoffs (knock on wood).
Keepin the Bronco legacy real up in the Canadian Rockies.
Go Broncos!!!!!
Round 1- No brainer
Round 2- Set the tone for the rest of the draft, I would have turned off the TV if the Broncos picked Desean Jackson, so I was fired up about the Royal pick, but worried how the rest of the draft would play out (needs wise)
Round 4A- Lichtensteiger- Great Pick !, IMO, one of the best interior linemen in the draft.
Round 4B- Jack Williams, these days speed and athleticism are paramount for a DB, Jack has both.
Round 5A- Torain, Bronco’s know RB’s, if they are high on him, so am I.
Round 5B- Powell, Loved this pick, he is one dimensional, BUT, exactly the dimension (run stuffing) that the team needed.
Round 6- Larsen is a old school hard nosed player with a great attitude. Broncos will find a place for him.
Round 7- Josh Barrett- Sleeper pick with great potential.
Round 7B- Unbelievable pick !!! Woooohoooo !!
Undrafted- Anthony Alridge, another great addition, spread the field and let him go.
IMO, this was a great draft, as a fan you appreciate the character of the players, if I wanted to root for thugs and selfishness, I would be a basketball fan.
Thanks for your blog, nice to hear that the new guys are walking the walk.
To: Superchop 7
Do you know who draftee 7B is? I doubt it, but I’ll tell you that it’s Peyton Hillis (Ark) ranked #1 or #2 in all predraft analysis. The kids a bruiser, blocker, runner, receiver, special teamer. So in future, you might want to learn his name, because I think you’ll hear a lot it alot more in future camps and as the season goes on.
Lastly, you seem to have forgotten the best value in the UFA category. Yes, it’s Wesley Woodyard, not Aldridge. Woodyard will be a back-up to either Boss Bailey or John Lynch. He was slated to go in the 4th round. All SEC in last 2 years, he’s a tackling machine. He’ll start on ST for sure, but dont be suprised if he doesnt burst onto the scene. He’s a gem, a sleeper, a hitter. Along w/Polumbus, who has tremendous upside.
Denver’s best draft came from the 5rd round and on.(including UFA) This is where the best value will be realized. More players will come from those spots in years to come, than the 1st 4 rds. Except for Clady. He was too obvious and too talented to be missed. We’ll see!
Shannhan should consider using his later round draft strategy in the 1st 4 rounds or so. He seems to have a eye for talent, when the talent is not so obvious.
THey cut odelle cause after 2 years of no football… he sucked and that was in shorts and shirts. And as long as our lines dont play like a bunch of buffed up power puffs i dont care about hown nice they are, or how good they get along with each other. Is this really the crap your feeding us fans u can think of a better topic to write about rather than sittin outside watchin the team walk off the feild and thinkin that some one would really give 2 craps about them leughin and smillin.
M.C. The Completely retarded,
Go haggle a Raiders, Chiefs or Chargers fan don’t come on the site where we real fans get together and Odell was cut because he sucks they cut him because football is not priority one in his life whether that be family or the trouble he gets in. If fans like you were in charge we would be the NBA.
HOGblog… I think Mason is writing for thr Panthers now. Jim, don’t wan’t to sound like a jerk but you need to realize that us bloogers are the real deal fans. We check the site daily hoping to hear something about our team even if it’s in March. When we lose on Sunday we are p&##ed off for the week. Please, please take this blog serious our find someone else who will> We need updates and more updates.
Thanks, West Coast
Hey Bronco Nation!
Quick question for you guys. Is Ramsey going to be the backup behind Cutler? Has anyone heard of upgrading the 2nd string QB? I certainly hope Cutler stays healthy but I’m a little nervous with Ramsey.
Just wondered if you guys/gals had heard anything.
GO GET EM’ BOYS!
Just found out we picked up Michael Pitman from the Bucs.
Love our new Website Staff they do a video feature on Darrell Jackson and then follow up with a story about Darrell Jackson and in that story they quote the same stuff from the sound bites, THAT IS CUTTING EDGE STUFF. Why is it so hard to put the numbers of the new players in the team section.
Go Broncos, Love the Pittman signing.
Hey Jim,
Im from so cal and a huge bronco fan and im going up to colorado during the summer and was going to go to the broncos training camp and i wanted to know if you or anybody knew when and where training camp was and how to be able to go?
Pittman signing a good one! Nice job front office.
You know what I like about our offense? Travis Henry got banged up and went down. However, before that we saw what the guy still had through the first couple of games. Lead the league in rushing I believe. Then we relied on Young and Hall and I think we were all pretty impressed with what the boys did and that was with a banged up line. Now we’ve added Torain & Pittman. We’ve made a great choice in Clady on the line and expect the O line to return to form. Giving Bronco Nation a great show in rushing opportunity.
Again, add the WR list with Colbert, Stokley, Marshall, and crew….WOW! Stay healthy and Defensive Coordinators are going to lose their minds!
Defensively, I like what I’m already hearing about the simplicity of schemes. Shanny has this hitch in his giddy up and I think he knows deep down what us fans are expecting. A roster filled with talent and depth.
New England, San Diego, Jacksonville, Indy…I think you just woke a sleeping giant and it appears to be in the form of a horse!
GO GET EM’ BOYS!
Why is evetrybody drooling over Hillis? You’d think he was the reincarnation of Jim Brown, Jim Taylor and the Deisel rolled into one. Yes, he has the potential to be the first true blocking back the Broncios have had in about ten years, but…
Give a listen to a few comments from the “experts”
“Not a devestating blocker.”
” More of a tailback in a fullback’s body.”
“His versitility mioght bercome his greatest asset in the NFL>”
“Doesn’;t deliver strong, aggressive blocks or consistantly get through the line in time to block the linebacker.”
“At times seems disinterersted in blocking.”
“Does not consistantly stay after his block.”
“The more film of Hillis you watch the more he grows on you because of his ability to contribute as a blocker, receiver and ballcarier.”
What an intersting assortment of good and bad comments. Lets hope that ther good prevails, but……….
Love the Pittman pick up. Every single day I get more and more excited about the Bronco’s next season. We have plenty of depth now in those positions we had trouble with and its looking good….
Hey Bronco Nation,
Did you guys/gals see the report of Henry out with a hamstring injury already? I saw it on NFL.com
Just wondering what the depth of injury was.
GO GET EM’ BOYS!
This morning I attended a military funeral in muggy Baltimore. I was listening to the eulogy when I learned that one of the deceased person’s passions was the Denver Broncos.
I thought I would share with Bronco Nation that it lost a friend this past week.
Dr. Karla Adeline Moore was a tocicologist working at the federal pathology lab in Alexandria, Virginia. She grew up in Colorado and got a degree from Colorado State University, among other schools.
Let Bronco Nation give a quick moment of silence for a fallen fan.
Fred Ryland
PS. Please say hi to Eric Bakke, a good guy even back in high school.
