Elway’s Return a Great Moment

January 5th, 2011 - 10:06am by jim_saccomano

There are things that just seem meant to be, and so it is with the return of Denver Broncos Hall of Famer and legend, with the latter transcendent over the former term, to the team which he led into national dominance for 16 seasons.

He came to the Broncos as a great player and truly was one of those athletes who actually met and exceeded expectations. The mantle of greatness and the positive association with the Broncos, Bronco Nation and the entire Rocky Mountain time zone can never be taken away from John Elway.

As the team moves into a new era it is completely fitting that John head the football operations of this franchise.

No one has been more vital, and no one has ever been more competitive.

Many might question how things will eventually work out, and the vast number of media outlets are such that they need constant fodder, and the speculation regarding individual and team success is therefore a constant that we all have become accustomed to living with. But most of them just do not know John Elway.

For all his physical greatness, his mental toughness and absolutely indomitable will to win have always been overriding traits, in my opinion. He is driven by a competitive spirit shared by very few in our society, and that same spirit will both drive John and be infused into the entire organization in short order.

A parallel came to mind as I began to write this, that being Jerry West as a player and administrator.

Jerry West was a great basketball All-American at West Virginia who had a 14-year Hall of Fame career with the Los Angeles Lakers. Like John Elway, West played his entire career with one team, made all the all-time teams, and even earned the nickname “The Logo” for the fact that it is West who has adorned the NBA’s league logo itself.

But after his playing career ended he took that same drive into an administrative career, and as general manager of the Lakers he watched his team win seven NBA championships.

To me, that is more than just a desire fr what will happen to the Denver Broncos and John Elway in the future.

Our fans have absolute love for and confidence in John Elway, and he has never done anything to suggest their confidence is misplaced.

The belief in ultimate success is the first step toward that success, Broncos Country has that belief in John Elway, and the future is a bright one for Broncos fans today.

A Very very bright future!!! John and Tebow have one thing in common… The will to WIN!!! Tebow did a lot of it in college. John did a lot of it in the NFL as well. We are putting together a VERY exciting winning organization!!! John has one thing Tebow is probably lacking a little bit yet, but can be learned! A complete love for the Denver Broncos Organization! Tim will too over time! I feel it! Goooo Broncos!!!

Matt Millen offers Elway advice on running the Broncos, what the Hell does he know,he ran the Lions in the ground for years! what a freaking joke!
If Elway is smart(I know he is)he’ll tell Millen to stick his nose elsewhere!

  6. BeastFromEast92 says:

    BTW,great post Jim!

  7. strandoftds says:

CONGRATS JOHN ELWAY!! WELCOME BACK WE LOVE YOU!!!!!

  8. strandoftds says:

I hear you BFE on Matt Millen. But one thing Millen said about John Elway. John Elway is the best Football player to ever play the game. He said that about John above all Pro players ever. Now thats a high compliment. Just saying bro.

January 5th 2011 shall always be remembered as ELWAY’S DAY in our Bronco history!

  10. Broncos Born & Raised says:

We knew this was coming but it feels so good to know it’s true. I have no doubt John will bring success here. He’s had success in every business venture he’s attempted, including the AFL, so the doubters can doubt if they want but it won’t make a bit of difference to Elway or his legion of fans here in Denver. Next up: new HC!

THIS ONE… IS FOR THE FANS!!!!!!

    Welcome home John!!!!!

I LOVE ME SOME JOHN ELWAY!!!!!

    ILMSDB!!!

  12. Bones1965 says:

Congrats to the Broncos and The Greatest of All Time John Elway.

  13. Bones1965 says:

Everyone please watch Nick Fairley #90 for Auburn next Monday. He should be our #1 pick in the draft.

He reminds me of Reggie White.

  14. strandoftds says:

And last night Kyle Rudolph declaired for the draft. TE Note Dame.

  15. codybleedsorangeandblue says:

And for anyone who doubts Elway knows what he is doing for football operations. Take a gander at the old Colorado Crush Arena Football League team:

5 playoff berths in 6 seasons, 2 division titles, 1 conference championship and 1 league championship.

How hard do we think Elway is trying to persuade Harbaugh to come to Denver?

    As far as the draft:

    1. Patrick Peterson CB LSU
    2. Jared Crick DE/DT Nebraska
    2. Cameron Heyward DE/DT Ohio State
    3. Rahim Moore FS UCLA

Now this may change if we decided to go back to the 4-3 cause then we need a MLB and move Williams back to OLB

  16. BeastFromEast92 says:

strand,no disrespect to Millen, nice compliment to Elway, but the guy knows nothing about running an NFL team,is what I’m saying bro!

  17. strandoftds says:

Ya, the proof is in the pudding.

  18. BeastFromEast92 says:

    Draft by Rounds:

    1.Fairley DT/DE Auburn
    2.Paea DT Oregon St
    2.Jones ILB Michigan St
2.Rudolph TE Notre Dame (if we trade Orton for a 2nd)
    3.Black S Florida

  19. BeastFromEast92 says:

I’d like the Corner from Utah if we trade and get another 2nd or a 3rd.

  20. BeastFromEast92 says:

    Brandon Burton CB Utah.

  21. strandoftds says:

BFE, Elways intro at 3:30 EST.

  22. BeastFromEast92 says:

    Thanks bro!

  23. BeastFromEast92 says:

Is it a local channel or NFL Network or ESPN?

  24. strandoftds says:

Not sure. My guess is on NFL Network and ESPN. Local for sure out hear. But I bet all the big sports Networks. This is huge news.

  25. papacy808 says:

2nd pick in the draft… IF we can get the right to Andrew Luck we can get almost any player via trade… Go Broncos

  26. 07elway says:

Music to my ears… Elway’s back in the house!!!!!!!!

    Wooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo
    Hooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo!!!!!!

That’s my guy right there and I have no doubt in his ability to run this team successfully. Millen’s problem is he is NO John Elway. Our #7 can get anything done… from legendary 4th qtr comebacks to running this team’s front office.

This is the 3rd best day ever!!!
    1 – Elway’s first SB win
    2 – Elway’s second SB win
3 – Elway returns to Denver

With someone has legendary and respected as Elway, we’ll be getting back on the right track in no time. BUT even with all the changes we’ll be making, this team still has a lot on their plate to fix. Bowlen finally made the right move… realized he’s not too good at hiring a new HC so he handed that job over to the pro. Elway’s gonna look at from a player’s perspective which is a sweet deal. Having been in that position of transitioning from one HC to another he will have a much better shot at finding a more reliable and suitable HC for us. Like I said, he’ll look at it from a player’s point of view in the interview (or he should)… in the interviews he of all people should ask himself, would I really want this guy as my HC if I were the players? I can’t imagine he wouldn’t.

Nevertheless, glad to have him back!! Good day to be a Bronco fan… no other team has a John Elway to brag about! ahaha

GO BRONCOS in 2011!!!!!!!! Love you Elway!!! ;)

  27. imready says:

Anybody else here think he’ll hire Harbaugh and work out a deal with Carolina for Luck whether Carolina likes it or not? They may want Tebow to fill their stands plus swap picks. I could see that happening. They’re are saying Luck is the best QB to come out of the draft since Elway and Mareno back in 83′. The excitement begins! Go Broncos!

  28. broncofanatic66 says:

Any new coach should have the following qualities:

    1) He believes that Tebow is our future.
    2) He knows that defense wins championships.

  29. olddaddy says:

Bowlen let the other HC trade all of our good players away.So elway has a huge mess on his hands but i think he will get the job done and bring the broncos back to respect.Glade to have you back in the bronco family. From all the bronco fan’s here in texas.

  30. ocrdrhtrs says:

we dont need Luck … We have TEBOW !!!! believe me he’s gonna be great..

  31. WieminCA says:

In a word – HALLELUIAH!!!!!!!!!!!! (I had to look that up on Susan Boyle’s album to see how to spell it – how many of you could have do it without looking it up???) …

There’s a lot of ways it could go, now – w/ the HC, w/ the Draft … what say we just sit back and let it happen, and not criticize each and every move … the temptation will be there to do that, but it’s gonna take 2 – 3 years before we know if they’ve done it right … w/ McD, we never let up on him, from the very first when he got on the wrong side of Cutler … I still say, he had enough time to fail, but not enough time to succeed … well, he failed, I think we’d all agree on that, so it was time to cut bait … I think it’ll be different this time … it’ll be done a lot more professionally … just hope the owners/players debacle doesn’t screw everything up …

All I can say is – GO BRONCOS!!!!!!!!!!!!

  32. nbarnett says:

WiemanCA…good job looking up the spelling…however you still got it wrong.

07elway…You are right, elway knows how important the right coach is from the player’s perspective. However, it will be those two years under Wade Phillips that will mean the most. The team went into those seasons so excited to have a “player friendly” coach after Reeves left, but in two years they were ready to give that up for someone who could win. Everyone loved Phillips but he didn’t know what to do as head coach. Elway will know to look for someone who can command an organization, build a great coaching staff, and manage games effectively. These are things we haven’t seen in Denver for several years. Who knows, we might even learn how to use time outs effectively.

  33. austin-bronco says:

I would love Luck, and I’m sure Elway would too, as well as Harbaugh. Stanford connection would make great sense, but everything I hear has Harbaugh going to San Fran.

  34. stevecan2 says:

interesting, i didnt know you go back this far….

so Tebow is done in Denver, no one wants him but the fans. John Fox is the head coach and we are shaping up to be Jacksonville. wow, i was so much more optimistic back in January.
