This article brought back some special memories for me. My Dad passed when I was 11 (I'm 26 now). Growing up one of my most vivid memories is watching the Broncos with my mom every sunday. Although she knew nothing about football she cheered for the Broncos and especially John Elway because I did. It was her way of being mom and dad. I appreciated this article because it made me reflect on alot of my growing up years and how much cheering for the Broncos played in my childhood. Even as a kid I used John Elway and the Broncos as an example of being resiliant and always picking myself up. Great read Jim and keep up the good work. GO BRONCOS!!

I don't remember all those years, but I do remember a good bit of losing seasons before that first year the broncos went to a superbowl vs Dallas.
As fans we have seen this franchise improve greatly over the years. And thankfully so! There are generations of people who worked hard to help the team reach such a historic mark as 400 wins! "Great job" to everyone who was involved!

Ever since I was old enough to know what the NFL was (I was four years old), I've been a Broncos fan. Being the good Mormon I am (like Spencer Larsen), I would get home from church and watch the Broncos pull out heart-pounding victories, usually with Charlie Jones and Todd Christensen calling the action. The franchise is a consistent hallmark of excellence (especially in the Pat Bowlen era), and there's no reason to believe things will change. I'll treasure win #400 against the Jags and anticipate win #500 when it comes. As always, GO BRONCOS!!!

That was a very entertaining post oldsouthstander. For most of what you mentioned I wasn't even born yet but I remember quite a bit about this team. Of course, all of what I remember the team had become a respected team but even more so when they got to another Superbowl but won - TWICE IN A ROW!!!!!!!!! I'll never forget that. My entire childhood Elway was the QB and then he retired and a steep downhill came but thanks to Cutler my faith in this team was restored BIG TIME, especially this year. I can feel GREAT things are coming for this team, this year.

I've been fortunate enough to go to a few games... I'm hoping this year I can make it to the game against KC in Denver... I'll take me some sweet revenge. I'd love to be there in person for it too.

I can't wait till Sunday and we (hopefully) get our 400th win. What an accomplishment!!!!!!! All I'm gonna say is BOTH our offense and defense come out stronger than ever. If we can combine the offense we had against Oakland with the defense we had against Tampa... there will be NO messin' with us. I can picture it already. Oh and special teams better be pretty darn good too. And the coaching. I think that's it... yep.

Go get 'em Orange & Blue!!
GO BRONCOS!!!!!!!!

Great read Jim. As I have it in my profile on here, I love that our organization is not a loud mouth show-boating one. We have been there when things can't get any worse, and we have been where very few have in a two-pete at the superbowl. But yet we are never known for saying we will cream this team or slaughter that. We stay humble when we win and when we lose, and we are our own worst/best critics. I love that we can talk the talk and walk the walk and back it up with anyone. But we choose to just let our walking do the talking.

I enjoyed even more reading your post OLDSOUTHSTANDER! I have honestly yet to go to a game, but am there with everyone through my t.v. Even if utah ever were to get a football team, my blood is blue in my veins and it bleeds orange!

Good Point, Why isnt Bob Martin in the ring of fame. Is it because he wasnt employed by the Broncos? Maybe its a sticking point in the rules. He should be there, he was the voice of the Broncos and during those tough years gave inspiration, great analysis and hope to us Bronco fans. A no brainer in my opinion. Why not Jim if you read these? Marco

Just remember the names of the QB loaned to the Broncos, Jackie Lee. He fit right in with the Broncos at that time, he was lousy.

Jim,
I do remember. I remember a game that the Broncos were so bad that they didn't get a single first down. I remember when they were "loaned" a starting quaterback for two years. I think from the Dallas Texans, but I'm not sure. I remember when you bought season tickets you got a discount. I remember a female fan running out onto the field during one of the regretably typical Bronco drubbing and stealing the football. I remember Bob Martin and wonder why he's not a Ring of Fame member. I remember Lou Saban and his infamopus" half a loaf " comment and watching loaves of bread being thrown at his in following games. I also remember that that's when the Broncos began their march to not only respectability, but dominance. I remember the '77 Broncos and the total insanity every Bronco fan experienced. I remember that in '77 if you wanted to sell something all you had to do was paint it Bronco Orange. One home was sold just this way. I remember the crushing Super Bowl defeats and knowing that when John did that "helicopter" that there was no way we were going to lose to the Packers. I remember how good Randy was and will curse the HOF to my dying day for not electing him to the HOF. He has one last chance by getting in through the vets committee. Hopefully by the time that happens enough Broncos will be in the HOF to make sure it happens. And if you think HOFers don't influence who gets in look at Troy Aikman and how he got in a twice convicted druggie. I remember a game where former Bronco Gene Mingo was lined up to kick a 9 yard field goal and Bob Martin saying something like "and now Gene will step up and miss this chip shot". He did and the Broncos won. I tremember when the Broncos finally signed their first first round draft pick after losing in the bidding war to the NFL, Flloyd Little. I just wonder what an incredible career he'd have had if he were with almost any other team. And I remember the incredibly long lines to and in the bathroom under the South Stands. They were the laughing stock of pro football for many years, but, we oldtimers kept our seats, raised families and kept hoping that next year wold be better. They have been, beyond our wildest dreams.
