Broncos’ 50th – By the Numbers

March 20th, 2009 - 1:09pm by jim_saccomano

One of the oldest sayings in sport is “You can’t tell the players without a scorecard.”

That goes back in time to the first and most basic team marketing efforts, that of selling scorecards for a penny (prices have really gone up!) to the fans in the stands.

Ever since teams started putting numbers on players’ jerseys — a practice which began in the 1920′s — what number a player wears has become as much an identification of some athletes as their name. I was just doing a little research into Denver Broncos all-time player numbers, with this being the 50th anniversary of the franchise, and here are a few Bronco number notations.

Every jersey number has been worn at least once in francchise history.

Three are retired: 7 for John Elway — one of three players ever to wear No. 7 — 18 for Frank Tripucka, and 44 for Floyd Little.

Three players have worn three different numbers: offensive lineman Sam Brunelli wore 64, 68, and 72; tight end Nate Jackson wore 14, 81, and 89; linebacker Keith Burns, now a Broncos special teams coach, wore 51, 55, and 56 while firing up the fans.

There are three numbers that have each been worn just once: Tripucka is the only Bronco ever to wear 18, placekicker David Treadwell is the only No. 9 in franchise annals, and the legendary Johnny O (John Olszewski, a well traveled NFL veteran fullback who concluded his playing days as a Bronco in 1962) always liked to wear a uniform number that symbolized his nickname: the nickname was Johnny O, hence the number was 0.

American Football League fans will remember that the Oakland Raiders’ great Hall of Fame center Jim Otto went Johnny O one farther by wearing 00 on his back, the lowest number ever worn in sports history.

Despite great research efforts by the public relations department, the Broncos have three early year players whose uniform numbers remain unknown: tackle Leo Reed (1961), halfback Harold Williams (1962) and end Hugh Smith (1962). Early record keeping was very sporadic, and it’s amazing how much we actually do know about the early years, but we don’t know the uniform numbers of those three men.

The highest number ever worn is 99, which has been used ten times, always by a defensive lineman.

Lots of players have worn two numbers, and among the most prominent are linebacker Randy Gradishar, who was 52 as a rookie before becoming the legendary number 53, and tight end Shannon Sharpe, who was 81 for two years before donning his familiar 84.

In the early years, Cookie Gilchrist wore number 2 his first time with the Broncos and then opted for number 30 when he returned to the club.

And everbody knows John Elway’s No. 7.

But before Elway wore it, Craig Morton had it from 1977-82, and since John’s arrival was 1983 that means the Denver quarterback wore 7 from 1977 through 1998, 21 consecutive years.

But the first number 7 was Milton (Mickey) Slaughter, who wore numbers 7 and 14 duing his early 1960′s Denver career. Although not familiar to many Bronco fans today, Slaughter continued in the game as a fine coach and his most notable player was Hall of Fame quarterback Terry Bradshaw, tutored by Mickey Slaughter while a collegian at Louisiana Tech.

So it is still true that you can’t tell the player without some form of scorecard, but it’s also true that even a scorecard does not tell you the history behind a number.

1ST in. Great story. Which is some news we need. Who has worn #6 before Cutler?

  2. tnalen66 says:

I think we should retire #27 for Atwater and D Will

  3. TonyTZ7 says:

Bubby Brister had the number 6 he was the back up to Elway when they won the Super Bowl

  4. wgbronco says:

    To TNalen66,
    Jay Cutler QB 2006-07
    Jason Baker P/K 2004
    Joe Nedney K 2000
    Bubby Brister QB 1997-99
    Ralph Giacommaro P 1987

    These are the #6 wearers

This is all on Broncos web site under traditions

  5. broncoryan says:

I wonder when the last time any NFL player wore a 0 or 00 before these guys

  6. tnalen66 says:

    Thanks

  7. TonyTZ7 says:

I am not sure, but the last one I can think of was a Houston Oilier I think is name was Kenny Burrose or Burros he wore a double zeros,. I have C.R.S. so don’t take my word for it.

  8. papacy808 says:

Mr. Saccomano a little trivia is ok BUT the real news is our QB. This site is to keep the fans informed of whats going on. It’s your job as VP of public relations to update us. It seems to me that the whole organization is shying away from the real issue OUR Jay Cutler. Looking forward to your response.

  9. 07elway says:

I totally agree tnalen66… #27 should be retired for both of them.

There’s a lot of number I can think of that should be retired out of respect for certain players we had. #80 should be one of them for Rod… no doubt he’ll be a Hall of Famer. #30 for Davis, #84 for Sharpe, then again if we retire all the great number, what’s left for the current and future ones? Make up some number, those should be off limits!! That’s only 4 numbers right there, not gonna kill ‘em to retire those.

Nice change of pace from everything else going on. Although I’d love to know everything going on in our current mess, its nice to get my mind off it. Makes me furious whenever I hear about.

    With faith…
    GO BRONCOS in ’09!!!!

  10. denverbro89 says:

yeah 27 should definitely be retired

  11. Phelpster-AZ says:

I have three questions for JAY, PAT, Coach and the Bronco Organization:
    1) Trade Cutler and who benefits?
    2) Keep Cutler and who benefits?
    3) Why would any sane person consider number one?

You guys, all Bronco Fans included, are nuts if you think someone can do better than Jay! Please do not help Cutler’s agent out on this issue. And Jay – Please shop around for a new agent! Cook is only out for himself.

  12. 47rocksurworld says:

Good luck with that wish 808, wouldn’t that be nice!

  13. powerbronco says:

    Well Said Phelpster-AZ
    1) Trade Cutler and who benefits?- The Team that gets Cutler and the AFC WEST cause they lost a threat!
    2) Trade cutler and who suffers?-The broncos and all the fans
    3) Trade Cutler and who gets lost- All of the fans
4)Trade Cutler and who do the FANS hate- Coach McD
5)Keep Cutler and who do we love- THE DENVER BRONCOS
    6) Keep Cutler and who benefits?-The broncos and the fans
    7) Keep cutler and who suffers- the AFC west cause they still have the threat to deal with

  14. BRONCOBAILEY99 says:

I hate the idea of retiring #s… because eventually there will not be enough numbers… (there is andexception with our very 1st franchise QB, that led us to 5 SBs/winning 2)…. But out of respect for two great Broncos… I would be 100percent fine with retiring #27 for those two great DBs we once had…

  15. Cutlerizer says:

Cutler is a stud. Go 6!
Mr. Saccomano, if you’re trying to get our collective mind off Cutler, you’re going to have to do better than this.
Come on Denver, get your poop in a group and make us all happy with a healing headline…
    “CULTER: BACK IN THE SADDLE!!!

  16. TheRoyalBeast says:

Yea man, Atwater was a beast and so was D will. He was great and was on his way to being one of the best CB in the NFL. I say retire #27 as well IMHO.

I was just wathcing the vid on NFL.com of players reactions to the broncos situation and maybe I’ve been watching to much “Lie to Me” but when Royal is talking about cutler he looks sincere but when he talks about the coaching staff he does a not so subtle nose brush that is a tell tale sign of lying when he says “We have a great coaching staff.” See it your self lol

  18. BradJamesBroncoFan says:

Yes, Cutler back in the saddle and holding the reins. The entire NFL will look silly once they realize that we won’t let Cutler go. We’ll find a way to make it work. GO BRONCOS!!!

  19. dwillwilliams27 says:

ok well if were going to trade a great QB, Denver needs something big in return. All of the Broncos fans hear me out.

We trade Cutler to Detroit for there # 1 overall pick, also there second rounder and a 4th. We then trade Detroits second rounder our second rounder and Detroits 4th round pick’s to Clevland for Brady Quinn. Cutler goes to Detroit and Clevland gets 2 seccond round pics and a 4th.
Denver then takes the # 1 pick and Drafts Aaron Curry the stud LB ?
DENVER FANS WHAT DO YOU THINK ?????

  20. cutler6101 says:

with what we have done on defense so far and do some more to it and keep Jay Cutler and we will have a good team! Take a LONG look at the schedule and look hard…without Jay Cutler we WILL have the first pick in the draft next year! Jay is the offense and without him (I am not dissing all the good players like Royal, Marshall, etc) we will be starting over…Chris Simms…really??? …what a joke! He can’t run this team past this schedule! And neither can Brady Quinn!

Focus on draft and lets find the next Atwater!

  21. texark-fan says:

there is only one thing wrong with your plan dwillwilliams27. jay cutler will be wearing #6 for the broncos at least for the next 3 years.

  22. Davis4H.O.F says:

Content of the before mentioned letter to Mr. Bowlen

    Dear Mr Bowlen,
I am part of a huge movement to try to contact you and urge you to intervene in a clear and assertive manner in the Jay Cutler situation. As a rabid loyal fan of the Denver Broncos since the age of 12 (1976), I am very upset with recent team developments most notable the handling of Jay Cutler by Josh McDaniels. I promise you that I am in the major majority of fans when I say “What the HELL was Josh thinking? the fan base was shocked and incredulous at the thought that anybody would have been stupid enough to entertain the thought of trading Cutler let alone for a one-hit-wonder like Matt “couldn’t even start one game in college” Cassel. Jay’s passion, loyalty, and competitive spirit give Bronco’s fans real hope for the first time since J. Elway retired, not to mention his incredible talent! As you are well aware fans are the financial and marketing life-blood of any sports franchise and for the first time in my 32 years as a fan I questioned my loyalty to the Broncos, something I thought impossible before this situation arose. If I wanted to have my team be a New England clone I would have just been a Patriots fan to begin with. We fans take pride in the team that you have guided over these many years and would like it to keep it’s class and the same character we have grown to love over the decades. In conclusion I would just like to urge you to make a public Statement in support of cutler being the QB of the future in Denver and urge Josh McDaniels to put aside, what looks like to the majority of us, to be an ego motivated power-trip and do what is necessary to engender the same fierce loyalty in Josh McDaniels that Jay had in the previous coaching staff, and that the fans have for Jay Cutler. It may serve to stem the tide of fans that are calling for Josh’s dismissal and having Coach Nolan take over. It is the general consensus that the great defensive free-agency moves have been Coach Nolan’s influence and that has been the bright spot of this off-season and the catalyst for hope for the near future in Bronco country. Thank you so much for your time and it is my hope that these things might be seriously pondered for the sake of the franchise.
    Yours respectfully,

  25. mikew007 says:

You guys can’t root for McD to fail AND for Cutler to come back and win! You’re gonna have to pick one as they mutually exclude the other. Better start rooting for both of them to get their heads and egos in check….

I want them to work it out and win together. We better hope they do…..the alternative doesn’t sound good.

  26. Bman6 says:

I dont like what Mcd has done but the man knows how to coach and he needs cutler for this thing to come together thats the bottem line jay or not sad to say the broncos will suit up on gameday but i want cutler there with them thats the only way i see this team winning with #6 and Mcd on the same page they both need to let some pride go and get to work on winning the super bowl

  27. voteTDtotheHOF says:

I hope these two men can put aside their differences and work together. Cutler needs to take a step back and understand why McDaniels considered trading him. He wanted to bring in his own guy which anyone would like to do. I think Cutler can be a great quarterback, but he is not there yet. To say the Broncos will lose all their games without Cutler is comlpetely false. Do not forget the stare down on Marshell and pick against Buffalo. Not to be followed up with missing Stoke running wide open to the middle of the field that any high school quarterback could have understood the middle being wide open, but throws the ball back into coverage? Also same game misses Eddie wide open down the field and overthrows him by 10 yards. He throws pick after pick in the red zone, does not hrow to the open receiver instead forces passes and misses on picking up first downs (which the game is all about) Pile up first downs and you end up in the end zone.

McD stood on the other sideline while the New England D dismantled Cutler and the offense. This whole team needed work and Cutler needs to pull his head out and understand he still has a lot of work to do to catch Manning and Brady. Cause either of those two would have had the Broncos in the playoffs

  28. imready says:

A minimum of 10 teams would be interested in aquiring Culter, that is a 1/3 of the league. That says it all ! I doubt that 1/3 of the league would feel the same way about McDaniels right now. Bowlen better get smart and help his new young coach make the right decision! Get Cutler in camp! Open the purse and give him the contract he deserves!

  29. mrbroncofan says:

I know i am about to be hated by a lot of people. I like Jay Cutler. He is a good qb. there is no argument there. I just would not mind seeing another qb in denver. i think brady quinn could run mcd offense very well. of coarse he is not considered as good as jay. he is not proven yet. we can get him and a first round pick for jay. we could have a high enough first round pick to get aaron curry and if raji fell to 12pk we could get him too. that would be a complete turn around on defense. i’m just sayin it might not be all that bad to lose jay. in the end ya i would like to see jay stay and do good for the team but i can’t say i will be upset if he goes. if we get quinn and mcd did to him what he did to cassel quinn would be a great qb. maybe not a cutler but a qb that could lead denver to the super bowl. of coarse he would have what jay did not and that is a defense. i’m good either way trade him or not. i am a bronco fan

  30. aSharpeIdea_84 says:

voteTDtotheHOF – “…he still has a lot of work to do to catch Manning and Brady. Cause either of those two would have had the Broncos in the playoffs.”

Not so fast there. When the defense gives up more than 30 points Manning’s record is 6-23. Elway’s is 6-21. Cutler’s is 3-12.

I agree with you Cutler has his share of mistakes and work to do, but imagine the pressure on him when there is no running game and no defense.

I disagree with you completely that Manning, Brady, or anyone else would’ve gotten the Broncos into the playoffs with that running game and defense. The stats don’t lie.

Also, McD AND Bowlen have their part in this fiasco going on and Cutler isn’t the only one that needs a bite of humble pie.

You don’t bring in a backup and pay him more, try and trade for a guy making $14 million who has one good year under his belt and not expect there being some fall out. C’mon people! This is not all on Jay.

Bowlen should get in there, take control of this situation by telling these guys, “Hey, you’re working together and that’s that! And, oh, by the way Jay, here’s a new big fat contract to show you that you really are MY guy. You may not be McD’s yet, but you’re mine, and I sign both of your paychecks. Now you two go have a beer and work this out because I expect you both to give me 100% starting tomorrow.”

  31. CaliBroncFans says:

I think McDaniels is doing a great job so far. He is establishing that all players are going to be treated the same. He did the same at New England – anyone ever see him curse out Brady – and Brady actually earned the right to be treated special, unlike Jay who has yet to be better than 8-8. McD is exactly what Jay and the Broncos need and if Jay can’t hack it then good riddance. Football is a team sport – and if there’s one person who matters more than the others, it’s the coach, not the QB. Also, please stop saying we were 2nd in the league in offense. We were not, we were second in total yards. We were 16th in the only stat that matters – scoring. Jay did the same thing in each game that he did in the season – choked when it mattered – he’d put up tons of yards and then couldn’t finish the job. You will see that there was only one QB in the whole league that had more interceptions than Jay – and that was Brett Favre who, after the performance he put in last year, finally got the hint that it was time to hang it up. Jay’s got a great arm, but really, we’ll live without him.

  32. ProQBbydaySuperHerobynight says:

I’m rooting for Jay and McD to make nice again and for us all to move on. BUT if worst comes to worst, i follow Cutler, cause this whole thing has left a bad taste in my mouth. What i really think is going on is just a publicity thing. It happened all the time in new England. so y not? Drum up some support for ur QB and then show off ur stuff on the field. All we can do is wait and pray for the best.
    GO BRONCOS W/ JAY
    otherways GO JAY!!!!!!!

    SUPER #6!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
    #6
    #6#6

  33. broncfan1986 says:

There is one problem with that statement Calibroncfans, Brett Farve may have thrown for more interceptions but he also has won a super bowl with his gutsy plays and as for Jay maybe the same plus more. Which is why we should keep Jay because of his gutsy throws. He also has the strongest arm in the league right now that Brett Farve retired. So I don’t think we want to rebuild again I think we want to win and to win more than eight games the defense needs to be a factor also.

  34. texark-fan says:

if we could get the networks and newspapers to stop reporting on MCJAYGATE it would be alot easier for the two sides to smooth things over. b/c they are just looking for news and there is no new news they are bring up old things, like the S. D. game where jay lost the ball or where jay made a great play. if we are fans, and all of us are, we need to write the networks and tell them we are tired of MCJAYGATE. just like last year we were tired of B. Farbe every 5 mins. Tell them you are a fan of another team and you are tired of hearing about Denver.
jay and mc are both backed into a corner, and what happens when that happens? nothing good. only more fighting and finger pointing.
Pat Bowlen did the right thing when he said he couldnot remember the conversation with jay after shanny/bates were let go. he wasnot going to add fuel to the fire. he knows what to do, he has been around a long time. he gave the reporters nothing to write about. ‘loose lips sink ships’ thats the way he played it.
We should tell all the networks to let it lay.

  35. monodono says:

    GO BRONCOS ! ! !

  36. jjbadd385 says:

I have been a Broncos fan since I watched the drive on a 12 inch black & white TV many moons ago. I pull for the Broncos faithfully and its not easy being from SC and not rooting for the home team. But this thing has gotten me to where i feel like jumping ship! I can handle the losing, bad seasons, firing of the coach, and all the other crappy things that has happened as of late, but to let an immature 32 yr old unproven coach come in and slap your up and coming QB in thw face and diss him like McD did is appauling to me! Not that some of it dont fall on Jay, like worrying about where Bates ended up, that was a coaching decision that is one of those thing I can deal with as a fan, but McD was 100% disrespecful to Jay and the Broncos to want to bring in Cassel who had a ton of talent to help get him those wins. Jay won with alot less help. No defense to speak of, and no run gam in most games last year. Pat should intervene and have McD at least say he messed up and guarantee Jay that he will get a new contract to show their loyalty to him. I dont want to lose Jay as a QB, its important that he stays, but if it has to be that he goes, i hope its the Browns deal that everyone is talking about. If we lose Jay and suffer another long dreadful season for lack of offense, I could jump ship!! I dont want to but this situation is sickening as a lifetime loyal fan!

  37. imready says:

Cutler is considered to be one of the top 5 QB’s in the NFL by some analysis’. He gets respect from everywhere else in the league but none from his new head coach. McDaniels doesn’t have to kiss his butt , he needs to treat him with respect. Alienating players is not the way to run a team. If you don’t think there is dissection among the guys in camp, don’t believe that. They’ve been told to keep their months shut but we all know what they must be thinking. They are probably just as divided in the locker room as we are on these boards. Mr. Bowlan, put things right. Closing your eyes to this situation won’t make it go away, it will just fester and grow in your players. Your coach needs to right the wrong he did and will gain respect from his players if he fixes what he messed up. Nobody is above right and wrong, be it the owner, the coach or a player. If the Broncos are going to move forward this situation has to be rectified soon!

  39. cutlerking6 says:

Hey yall. The ONLY good thing i can think of that comes out of Cutler not coming back (and pray nightly that he stays) is that ,yes this years sched. is tough and with out Jay we will get a great draft pick which we can use to get another stud in Tebow. If jay cutler reads this by chance PLZ COME BACK PLAY YOUR ASS OFF SO WE CAN SHOVE EVERY WIN UP HIS ARS!!
if he stays every div game will be awsome. jay smacken sd,kc and oak around for the next 12 years hehaw!

  41. mross35 says:

Go Broncos. Either way this pans out, we have started a change, and that is what was needed. 17-20 does not cut the mustard for the Denver Broncos. I dont care if it was Jay or the Defense. We need change, and I like the adjustments thus far. Let Bowlen run his team how he sees fit. Coach McD ran the most prolific offense in NFL History. I beleive we owe him the chance to give it a shot before he is runoff. Players come & go. As I said, Go Broncos.

  42. broncfan1986 says:

I will remain a bronco fan no matter the situation because things tend to change and no matter the change whether the coach owner or players I still will love the broncos. The only problem I have with McD and I believe it is the same for Jay is that McD lied to us as the fans and to him and then would not apologize for his lie and mistake. Therefore yeah trust issues tend to be a problem especially for that player or fan base that the coach lied about. No matter what though there is a contract still and Jay is still the QB until something later on happens. The fact being Jay needs to take his anger out on the field and show that he can be a leader and take this team to the super bowl and win. Not just for his teammates but for the fans who really are the only reason he gets 8 mil a year. In doing that it shows McD up that he was stupid for even considering trading him and maybe he will learn and become a great coach as shanny. The only thing that I hope he doesn’t do as a head coach is bring in the cheating that the pats did. I have no respect for cheaters what so ever.

  43. aSharpeIdea_84 says:

CaliBroncFans – “McD is exactly what Jay and the Broncos need and if Jay can’t hack it then good riddance.”

Good riddance to a top 10 QB? Whoa, not so fast.

One sports journalist put it this way:

“But if you can’t fit a huge talent like Cutler into your system, then you shouldn’t be coaching. Cutler can be great in any system, with the right coaching.

Everybody seems to think the die is cast and a trade now is inevitable. If McDaniels truly embraced Cutler it would not be too late. McDaniels is crazy if he trades Cutler. He needs to flex his system to fit Cutler’s huge talent.

That’s what great coaches do. Don Shula went to the Super Bowl with David Woodley at quarterback, then turned his offense 180 degrees and went to the Super Bowl two years later with Dan Marino.”

texark-fan – “he gave the reporters nothing to write about. ‘loose lips sink ships’ thats the way he played it.”

That’s not what the saying means, in fact it’s the exact opposite. To have loose lips means to have a big mouth, susceptible to talking about everything and everyone. Sinking ships refers to anything from small acquaintances to long and hearty relationships. So when one says loose lips sink ships, one is basically saying if you can’t shut up you are going to end hurting people, usually psychologically or emotionally.

Loose lips sink ships comes from World War I and/or WWII, when sailors on leave from their ships might talk about what ship they sailed on or where it had come from, or where it was going. If they talked too much (had ‘loose lips’) they might accidentally provide the enemy with anecdotal information that might later cause their ship to be tracked, and bombed and sunk, hence ‘Loose lips sink ships.’

Later, it came to mean any excessive talk might sabotage a project.

Bowlen nor McD has not had loose lips. They’ve said very little.

    NO TRADE NO WAY!!!

  44. tjnartw says:

I am and will always be a Bronco fan no matter who is qb or coach. I’ve liked just about every thing so far that has happened during this off season, except for maybe the McDaniels, Cutler situation. Now maybe I’m wrong but I heard that Tampa Bay and Detroit initiated the trade talks for Cutler. Coach McDaniels is the Head Coach of the Denver Broncos and he has an obligation to the fans to listen to any and all offers for any player on the team. That said, I wouldn’t be surprised to find out that his agent is pushing this as far as he can to try to get Cutler a new contract so he (Cook) can get more money. I believe that the Broncos organization tried to set things right with the meeting that they and Jay had because the reports said that the Broncos thought that it was a good meeting, but someone close to Cutler said that it didn’t go very well. Maybe (Cook)???? GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOBroncos in 2009.

  45. CaliBroncFans says:

Saying that Shula did it with 2 different QBs only confirms my point. It’s the coach that matters, not the QB. I’m not saying Cutler isn’t good – or even that we wouldn’t be a better team if he stopped his whining and played some football because the kid definitely has a ton of talent. But if he is going to be this disruptive then he will do more harm than good. There are lots of very talented players that I would never want to see in Orange and Blue – TO, Randy Moss, etc… – anyone who puts themselves above the team. More important than a rocket arm and fearless attitude, we need someone who leads by example – and this is not the right example to be setting. Imagine if every player threw a tantrum like this every time the team entertained trade talks about them. We’d be a joke. McD has no choice but to stand his ground and he deserves the support of the fans. Many people don’t like their boss or the decisions he/she makes – but this is not how mature adults handle such a situation. By pandering to this tantrum you are giving Cook more ammo, Cutler justification for this adolescent behavior and you are hurting the team. Support the team not a single player – it’s the only way winning football works.

Look at the facts guys , seldom does a team win a superbowl with great defense and a QB that is mediocre. It has happened, but usually you need an excellent QB and a very good defense. Pointing out rarities in the NFL such as the Ravens winning with Dilfer or Miami winning with two QB’s is the exception rather than the rule.
McD has done nothing as a head coach , giving hime credit for team wins in some of his past coaching positions is obserd. He is an unknown comodity as a head coach. Not much difference between him and a player coming in out of the draft. You just don’t know what you are going to get.
If Culter loves the Broncos as much as he said he does he should swallow his pride and get his butt to camp. The guys who have done battle with him deserve that. For a guy who thinks he should be treated with respect from his coach, he sure gives none to his team mates who have laid it on the line for him.
Pat Bowlan isn’t running his team, he is letting his team run itself. If things don’t work out this next season he is gonna wish he hadn’t sat on his hands. I hope he gets boooooed right out of town for his negligance concerning the lieing by his head coach.

asharpieda-84 thats what i said. pat said nothing. not in referance to any type of a trade, just plane nothing. he didnot want to start the reporters talking again thats why he said nothing. it was water under the bridge and he did not want to bring the conversation up again.
and as far as the history lesson i know that long before you were born, and i know what water under the bridge means also.

As a lifelong Bronco fan, this is the only time, like many fans, that I’m questioning how things are being run in Denver. I hope that things all work out and that Cutler actually stays in Denver, because even though he hasn’t gone to the playoffs yet, GIVE HIM A CHANCE. Elway didn’t get to the Super Bowl until like his 4th year. I’m very optimistic that things will work out and Cutler will stay with the orange and blue. I just seriously think that McDaniels needs to come clean and actually “fess” up and say that he was trying to trade him (Cutler). If he would’ve done that earlier, none of this crap would’ve ever happened. But, no matter what happens, I will stay a Broncos fan until the day I die, and that’s no joke. Seriously, give Jay Cutler a chance and he will perform for you. He’s like a young Elway, altough I wasn’t born when Elway started in ’83, but you get my point right? I hope that McD and Cutler can work something out, and that Jay can stay here in Denver for a LONG time…

    GO BRONCOS!
