It is a long season in the National Football League, and while Denver Broncos fans and personnel all wish for immediate success, we also realize that it takes a whole season to fulfill the goals of a team.
But along the way, let us take time to savor the remarkable fact that Peyton Manning takes his snaps in Denver.
When he first became a free agent, people chuckled at the prospect of him coming to Denver. Then, everyone could not believe it was a real possibility. Ultimately, he signed with the Broncos.
And now, as with all things, there is actually the possibility, as absurd as it seems, of taking Peyton Manning’s presence in the Broncos lineup for granted.
Never, ever take a moment of watching this player for granted. He is football royalty, both personally and by pedigree.
Consider the statistics that he is putting up in a new city, with a new system, new coaches, new teammates, and initially with every media member in America asking every conceivable question about health and adjustment.
Peyton Manning completed 31 of 44 passes (70.5%) for 337 yards with three touchdowns and no interceptions in Denver’s 31-21 loss at New England, for a passer rating of 115.4.
Manning became only the second player in franchise history—Brian Griese was the first in 2000 and 2001—to throw for at least three touchdowns with zero interceptions in consecutive games.
His performance through five games marks just the fifth time in NFL history a player has accounted for 1,500 yards and 11 touchdowns, with three or fewer interceptions, and completing at least 66% of his passes through five games.
That list is Manning in 2010 and 2012, Matt Ryan of Atlanta this year as well, Aaron Rodgers of Green Bay in 2011 and Daunte Culpepper with Minnesota in 2004.
Peyton Manning is also on pace for a career best 4,822 passing yards, which would rank eighth in single season NFL history, along with his second best marks for both touchdowns (35) and interception avoidance (10).
And while Broncos fans watch each game with their normal passion and fervor, they also should remember we are all lucky enough to be watching one of the great quarterback seasons by one of the greatest quarterbacks ever.
And quite frankly, that might be an understatement.

“The possibility of taking Peyton for granted”? That’s the first I heard of that. All I’ve heard so far is the need for the D to improve and to cut down on the receivers and RBs mistakes. So you must be talking about folks outside of this blog and I don’t really listen to all that chatter, so I’m oblivious to that type of thinking and it’s a good thing. The only ones I could think would even go there are the Tebow disciples and as far as I can tell most of them thankfully left the Broncos to follow him in N-Y, LOL. BTW GOOD RIDDANCE to all those who thought they were Bronco fans just while Tebow was here. This is a much more sane time with Manning at the helm and his fans, most of them seem to be better level headed than Tim’s disciples, at least better NFL football educated.
Thanks Peyton for playing for us and thanks Pat for paying him.
And thanks John Elway for landing him!!!
A trifecta!
All we have to do is win next week and we will be tied for first place in the AFCW with the edge on SD for beating them at their home field….
We are only one win away from leading our division!!!!
Not to mention that we lost three close games to some of the best teams in the leauge….
It feels awesome watching a hall of fame QB leading us down the field on long drives!
If we can eliminate the turnovers our offense will be unstopable….
To the Decker and the DMT, Tearing up the AFC!!!!!
ILMSDB!!!!
Before the season I chalked up the SD Monday nighter as a loss. SD lost at NO means they’ll really be up.
***** Official score prediction ****
SD 31
Broncos 27
Now I’m going to wash my mouth our for saying that… on second thought wash my hands for typing that. LOL!!!
Wow almost brought a tear to my eye great post
My offical score for the monday night game will be
Broncos 31
chargers 23
Manning has put up good numbers, 116 passer rateing last game agaisnt new england, I dont see a decline at san diego, I think we sweep the division this yr, to put us in the playoffs faceing Pittsburgh at hm again first round.
S.D. has been proven to be weak. I’m putting my chips in for Denver this week. Before the season started I had this game as a loss, and I’ve changed my mind. We’ll win this one.
Prediction:
Broncos 34
Chargers 24
I dont see us slipping either. When our team sees this tape from the Pats they are going to see that it shold have been a win, along with the texans and atlanta game. We just had to many mistakes, so after seeing that I think the coaches and players are going to work hard to try to right those wrongs. The team knows what they are capable and have all the right tools, they just have to figure out the best way to use them. Like in the raiders game I believe they will, and that we will not just beat the but will spank them badly.
Prediction:
Broncos: 38
Chargers: 10
Look at the games between common opponents: San Diego only beat the Raiders by one score (22-14) while Denver decimated Oakland (37-6). Denver lost AT Atlanta by a single score (27-21), while the Falcons trounced the Chargers in San Diego (27-3).
SD has a winning record but against much lesser opponents than the Broncos have faced. Sure Denver is 2-3 but those losses came at the hands of the two top teams in the NFL and a top 5 team. Minus some mistakes (which are fixable btw) Denver is in those games.
Denver is going to route the Chargers much like we did the Raiders.
TwoGunz and RH709: You guys beat me to the punch. I also believe Denver will put together a complete game against the Chargers. I am predicting we create and win turnover battle and not of the apple kind….LMAO!!!!!
Broncos: 34
Chargers: 20
I will continue this trend I think the Broncos throw down in San Diego like they did when they won a superbowl there!!!
Broncos 34
Chargers 13
Jim. I will never take it for granted. I have never been more proud to be a Bronco fan.
checkdown……….
Amen Bay….couldn’t have said it better myself bro…we finally got a Field General behind Center, instead of a mediocre Gloryhound!!!!!!!!!
I agree LPC!!!!!!!!!
I wasn’t able to post ever since last week?
Broncos 38
Chargers 28
Bay and B/F/E
I agree with outsiders chatter does not matter!
We need an Inside LB upgrade and a DT that can read a spread offense. The no huddle offense will be copied and become the new “Scheme” Just like the “Run and Gun” or the “West Coast Offense” Whatever you want to call it!! We are missing key players at LB and DT. I noticed this weekend teams trying more of the wide receiver screen we have had good results from. That is if we don’t turn the ball over!! It’s a copycat league!!
Just me!
ILMSDB!!!
Peace Out

Just to be clear I still hate this out side chatter:
Woody Paige from DP said:
“As it turned out, though, Manning had no more success against the Patriots than Tim Tebow did last year, and Manning might be wondering why he chose to finish a distinguished career with the Broncos.”
Like the Broncos are not considered his best choice he could have made!!
Outside chatter!!

JFTR… Everyone who liked tebow isnt bandwagon fans or nuts… i have always been a Broncos fan and I liked tebow last season for what he did for our team and for who he is as a person. I hope the best for him.. I was also skeptical of peyton being able to return to old form quickly. But all i have seen so far is peyton knocking a little rust off and now looking better than ever! I am not blaming these losses on him he is one of the things keeping us in games. Only game anyone can even remotely think he was partly to blame for was the loss at atlanta… but i love football … its a team sport. I love his approach.. He does not throw his playmakers under the bus when they make a mistake… Cutler should take notes and learn from this Man’s leadership!
GO BRONCOS!
Random Thoughts.
I have a good feeling about this game!
Phillip Rivers is about to start throwing his picks again… *fingers crossed*
I was impressed with our run defense until last game.
Still think they are good just had a bad game.
WE NEED TURNOVERS!
One last Thought… VON MILLER is playing Lights out! Love how he is becoming a complete player with no decrease in sacks!
I have to agree with people on the Linebackers… as far as character i love joe mays… love his hits but hate the misses… i hope we see some more nate irving or danny trevathan. Personally i hope he bounces back with an awesome game… I thought he did a great job a few of the games… i think he was just overwhelmed with the speed of the game and the speed of the players last week… he don’t seem like a speed kind of guy.. just a good run thumper…
The stat I am concerned about is W-L.
Why aren’t we running more?
why are the majority of our running plays from shotgun?
If we are going to open up with 10 pass plays in the first drive then why not take more shots deep?
Frankly our biggest challenge has been stopping people on 3rd downs. It won’t be as easy to drive the ball in the fourth when the team is only up by 1 TD. It’s easy for the patriots and Atlanta and Houston to take it easy in the fourth when up my 30 points.
Absolutely right that we are being treated to a very special opportunity to have Peyton play for Broncos. I just hope we don’t waste his limited years left with underperformance from the rest of the team. Peyton has more than done his share of lifting this team but he needs the other key players (Doom, Mays, Porter, Wolfe) to start making impact plays…especially on 3rd downs so he can have 2-3 more possessions which could turn into at least 10 points and probably more (21points). With current average of 28 pts./game, another 10 points will put Broncos at 38!…definitely will win most game even if defense gives up too much yards!
Does it bother anyone else that the Colts have a 3-2 Record with Luck, after that team was 2-14 last season? and we were 8-8/division Champs, Signed an Old Man’ing without a plan B and are 2-3?
Just a curious logic we have, they cut the guy (Manning), save alot of money and improve their entire roster… We overpaid for him, neglected serious issues on our Roster and have yet to show any real benefit short of getting to see a couple 300 yard passing games… How does this get us to a Superbowl Championship? Just Curious
And a little Football 101… Until our DT’s can occupy more than one blocker at the line of Scrimmage or start to actually penetrate a little and keep OL’s off the Defense at the second level you will never be able to accurately assess our LB play…
It starts up front, and you can’t blame the second line of Defense for the failings of the first… BRING IN SOME REAL BEEF and watch what happens when our LB’s can simply fly to the ball the way BAL and SF do…
say what you want about tebow and his bad stats the one that mattered was the W column and he was getting us that, you can have all of Peytons great numbers, unless he gets a win it means nothing. I like the guy but to give up our future for the now was stupid.
Go Broncos!!
