Finishing Strong

June 18th, 2009 - 8:56am by Elvis DumervilOther posts by Elvis Dumervil

So OTAs are finished, and we’ve got a little more than a week left to finish out offseason conditioning. We can go on vacation now that camps are finished, but I’m still around because at this point I plan on getting 100 percent participation this offseason. I might just do it for my own well-being. I don’t get no bonuses for it, I’m just doing it because this is what I do.

The workouts are the same as when we started before OTAs — lots of conditioning. We had a couple weeks of just practicing, kind of shying away from the weight room a little, but now you kind of come back and finish strong the last couple weeks. So you better maximize your strength, take a little break and then get ready for training camp.

Getting Closer

May 20th, 2009 - 7:58pm by Elvis DumervilOther posts by Elvis Dumervil

Last time I checked in we were getting ready for our second mini-camp, right after the draft. Now we’ve had a little break from camps, but we’re still in here working out with Rich Tuten. I tell you what, Rich Tuten has had a great offseason training for us. It has certainly got me on the right track in terms of my conditioning.

We’ve had some good camps so far, and now we’ve got a stretch of about three weeks of camps staring at us. These are pretty much the same as the first two mini-camps — you’ve got to go out and compete. This time around you want to be a little more crisp assignment-wise, technique-wise, especially with the new philosophy we’re trying to get established here. You won’t be perefct, but your goal is to aim to be perfect.

Welcome Aboard

April 29th, 2009 - 1:51pm by Elvis DumervilOther posts by Elvis Dumervil

So the draft is behind us and I have to say I’m pretty excited. I’ve seen flashes of guys we got. The DE, Ayers, I’ve seen him at Tennessee — he’s pretty good. So I thought that was a great addition for us. Then the running back for sure. I think we did great with all the picks, getting the players that we needed to get. So now we’re trying to get everybody in here together this weekend with the mini-camp and get this thing rolling.

I’m excited to meet all the rookies. They’re part of the team, and we want to welcome them on board so we can try to achieve this goal we’re trying to achieve. So that should make this weekend exciting. It’s been a great atmosphere so far, so I’m looking forward to meeting these guys and embracing them as part of the team.

Back to Work

What’s going on, everybody?

It’s been a while since I’ve last updated, and plenty has happened since then. Most importantly, we’re back in the locker room for offseason conditioning and I couldn’t be happier.

Coach Tuten has got us going, working hard, but as far as I’m concerned it’s fun. He has taken a little different approach this offseason — it seems like a lot of the stuff is a little more football oriented. He’s got us doing just enough to get guys pumped, but not enough to kill you.

Starting to Rebuild

March 4th, 2009 - 7:57pm by Elvis DumervilOther posts by Elvis Dumervil

I’ve just been down here in Miami, chilling with my family, but at the same time I’m eating right and getting ready for the offseason training.

I’ve already been doing some training actually with my Dad. He’s a trainer so I’ve been doing some different things, as far as from Coach Rich Tuten’s workouts.

March 16 is when the first workouts start at Dove Valley, and I’ll probably be in town on March 14 or so for those. I haven’t had a chance to talk to many of my teammates — just a couple guys like Brandon. For the most part, I’ll talk to them for the first time since the end of the season when I get back in Denver.

It has been a pretty hectic time back in Denver though. As far as Cutler and that situation, I haven’t spoken to him about it, and we don’t talk about those kinds of personal deals. As far as Brandon, I’ve heard it’s just a big misunderstanding. I know everything is going to be fine though, and I can’t wait to get back on the field.

Meeting With the Coaches

February 4th, 2009 - 4:18pm by Elvis DumervilOther posts by Elvis Dumervil

I’m back down in Miami now after spending most of last week in Denver. Back at my place in Denver, I took care of some little things around the house. I took care of my cars, ran a couple errands — did all the little things and all that.

Then I went down to Dove Valley, and I was able to meet and speak with the new coaching staff — I met everybody on the defensive side actually. I also met with Coach McDaniels. We had spoken on the phone a couple of times, but we hadn’t seen each other in person yet. We had a good meeting. It was really energized, and we’re both really pumped for this new year. We’re excited for the new challenges, changes. We’re heading in a new direction, trying to get a championship in Denver.

Checking In from South Beach

January 22nd, 2009 - 12:39pm by Elvis DumervilOther posts by Elvis Dumervil

Sorry it has been a while since my last blog, but I wanted to give y’all an update.

To be honest, I’ve just been eating a lot, relaxing, enjoying the South Beach weather. I traveled a little, but now I’m in Miami with all my family, watching over my little nieces and nephews, spending time with grandma and mom, chilling with my brothers. It’s all about family.

I’ve got to say I’m excited about Coach McDaniels. It’s a new beginning. Everybody is excited. We’ve still got a lot of pieces of the puzzle to put together, but he did a great job in New England and hopefully he’ll do the same here.

End of a Season; End of an Era

January 1st, 2009 - 11:15am by Elvis DumervilOther posts by Elvis Dumervil

It has been a wild couple of days. I don’t think any of us saw this coming, but that’s the nature of the business in the NFL. It’s a big shocker — I know I didn’t see it coming — but the organization wanted to go a different route.

Coach Shanahan was great to us — he meant a lot to the players. He was a great coach, so I’m sure he’ll do well wherever he ends up. I want to thank him very much — he was one of the guys that helped to draft me. That really means a lot, and as my first coach, he taught me my first scheme and philosophy in the NFL. He really means a lot.

And while we didn’t see it coming, this fits right in there with the whole up-and-down nature that we’ve seen this season. We’ve had some real highs, like beating the Jets on the road, and we’ve had some real lows, like last week. Then you look at all the injuries we’ve had, and it wasn’t easy. Shanahan did an excellent job of trying to keep us prepared. There were a lot of things going on, but at the end of the day, as he said in his press conference, he just didn’t get the job done. As far as effort, he gets an “A” for it. I think he left us with a good team, a young team and we’ve got a promising start on the future.

Our Last Shot

December 24th, 2008 - 8:42pm by Elvis DumervilOther posts by Elvis Dumervil

It all comes down to this weekend. We played the Chargers the first time around and beat them. We got over a hump — we hadn’t beaten them in years. That’s all I really remember about that first game. Finally beating them was a good feeling.

But that was a long time ago.

Now we’ve got a great opportunity ahead of us to be able to take care of our business and get a first round playoff game at home. The Chargers are flying high on consecutive wins. Philip Rivers is playing his best game, and now it’s not so much L.T. all the time. They’ve got different guys who can carry the load, and that makes them more dynamic. We’ve got to go out there, start fast, get Rivers out of his rhythm. We have to start fast then finish strong. It’s our last shot to get into the postseason.

As Important As Any Game

December 17th, 2008 - 8:01pm by Elvis DumervilOther posts by Elvis Dumervil

The Carolina Panthers — they’re a good team, maybe the best in the NFC right now. It was a tough task going into their house, where they’re undefeated. They were the better team that day. That pretty much sums it up. Give them credit because they played the better game on Sunday.

Now we have the Buffalo Bills, and this is really important. It’s all coming down to what we talked about in OTAs — making the playoffs. And it all comes down to what we learned in OTAs — the basics. Everything we did in offseason training, it all comes down to these last couple games.

We played the Bills last year and managed to came away with a win, and it was pretty intense. It was the first game of the season, and we had a crazy ending to it with the field goal unit running out there to win it for us.
