This will be my last blog entry – although I guess maybe I could come back maybe as a guest way, way in the future. It has been a little over a year and all of the fans have gotten an opportunity to get to know me and understand what I have going on in my head and off the head. I think I should allow someone else the opportunity to do so. Good luck to whoever that ends up being. It’s been great getting to know all of your through your messages. I appreciate everybody. I am going to miss it. It’s become an enjoyable part of my career, but I can’t be stingy. I have to share the wonderful internet fans with someone else. So, again, this will be my last one, but I might peek my head back into the blog every now and then.

First day of camp was great. Personally, I was a little rusty, but I’m starting to get back into the swing of things, but it was a lot of fun to get back out there for practice. One great thing about this time of year is that there are endless possibilities. We have high expectations and stuff.

I haven’t gotten a good chance to look at the new rookies and free agents yet. I imagine that they are getting acclimated to the NFL life and the mile-high altitude.

I have had a lot transpire in the last couple of weeks. As you may have read I made the executive board of the NFL Players Association (NFLPA). I am one of 10 players and was told that I am the youngest player ever, which is a major accomplishment for me. I am just really proud and honored to be named to this board and I look forward to the responsibilities that it requires to be a representative of the NFL as a whole and not just the Broncos. They added three new members, because two dropped off and one — Kevin Mawae of the Tennessee Titans — became the president. We added Mike Vrabel of the New England Patriots, Drew Brees of the New Orleans Saints and myself.

All 10 positions were elected in. Seven people returned and the rest were nominated. I was nominated all three times, but it got kind of dramatic at the end. The very first time Rod (Smith) nominated me, but I didn’t quite make it. Then for the next spot, T.J. Houshmandzadeh of the Cincinnati Bengals nominated me and I didn’t quite make that one. The last time, Drew Brees nominated me and each person that was nominated had to give a little speech. So I gave a little speech and I guess it put me over the top and they voted me in. I was very proud. The next day I was sitting on the stage next to the President of the Player’s Association and the Executive Director Gene Upshaw. I felt kind of important, but mostly I was honored and proud for the opportunity.

Let’s see, what have I been up to? Well I have been keeping my writing group going and we had some pretty good classes, some better ones than usual which is always fun. That is probably one of my focuses now that we are in the offseason and we are unfortunately not playing anymore, is spending time at the Boys and Girls Club. I still get up and work out in the mornings over at Dove Valley and everyday that I am over there I spend about an hour or more with my guys from the equipment room and go and support their basketball team. They were 2-1 before I started going to the games and now they are 0-2 since I have been going. So hopefully I am not bad luck.

I did get away for a little bit. I went to New York during the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Holiday and saw The Color Purple. It was ok, I am not much into musicals but my girl wanted to see it so I went with her. It was fun and as good as a musical could be.

I guess Sean Taylor is the best place to start. I think if any organization, any group of players or any city can sympathize with what D.C. is going through right now, it’s definitely Denver, the Denver Broncos and myself as an individual. Clearly they lost a great player, an important person to their team and I’m sure a very important person to a lot of people’s lives. Like I said, if anybody knows how they’re feeling, we definitely do here. My personal deepest condolences go out to the Washington Redskins and the friends and family of Mr. Sean Taylor.

Being from Baltimore and going to school at the University of Maryland which is about 10 minutes outside of D.C., I know how important the Redskins are to that community and historically how much they’ve meant to the people in that area. I fully expect the D.C. community to rally around the Redskins and help them in their grieving process. I imagine that this organization and I definitely am open to doing what we can to help seeing as we’ve gone through and are still going through an almost identical situation.

I know here everybody handled their grieving process differently. The Broncos offered psychological and emotional support to the players and I fully expect and hope the Redskins will do the same thing for their players and the friends and family of Sean.
