College Friday this Friday!
What a game last night. It was a fun game. It was interesting to see. The NCAA Finals were pretty exciting. The Final Four was pretty exciting altogether. It was pretty surprising outcome.
It was unfortunate to see Memphis collapse like that at the end. People, all season, were talking about their free throws and it’s ironic that it caught up to them at the biggest moment of the year. So I guess Kansas deserved to win.
It was a fun game to watch. One of the better things about sporting events like that is that it gives myself and some of the guys a reason to get together and hang out and build the team camaraderie and chemistry. I think all of that stuff is important to building a good team is being comfortable with each other, just hanging out. A few of us watched the last two rounds of the tournament together and had a good time.
We are doing a lot of promotion for College Friday which is coming up this Friday. It’s Friday, April 11, I’d like to encourage everybody to wear their college gear, or whatever their favorite school is or the school they went to, to work. To promote college for young people. It opens the dialogue. Show your support for College in Colorado and show your support for young people of Colorado by wearing your college gear on April 11.
It’s funny being mentioned among ‘The seen’ in Penny Parker’s column. There were other people with us and it’s funny that I was mentioned in the article. I think that’s like the third time I’ve been mentioned in that column. It’s big news. As long as they don’t put too much personal information in there. They can say where I was, just not where I live or anything like that.
This weekend was the anniversary of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. being assassinated. I saw a lot of stuff on television about that. I saw a good documentary about that on the History Channel. The History Channel is one of my guilty pleasures. I don’t tell too many people about it because it doesn’t sound too cool. I really like the History Channel and Discovery Channel. I get down with ‘Myth Busters” which is a great show. I don’t tell too many people about that because I have to keep up my cool façade.
I saw a bunch of stuff on there about Dr. King, all aspects of his life. I saw something on VH-1 about the hippie movement in the 60s. There was something else on the History Channel about John F. Kennedy getting assassinated. It seemed like the 60s were quite an eventful decade. I think it would have been an amazing experience to have lived through that. I’m kinda jealous to have not experienced that, but at the same time, I’m black so it probably would have been a pretty awful time for me.
Just to have that kind of kind of passion and camaraderie in just so many powerful movements to happen in a 10-year span with those major assassinations and major social movements and the Vietnam War, it just seemed to be a very interesting time period. If I ever became a true history buff, it would be something that I would look into. I’m sure there are some responders who lived through the 60s, so feel free to respond on your 60s experience if you wish. Give me some insight.
All Ready!

Dom,
People who have fond memories or feelings of nostalgia for the sixties
either weren’t there physically or were somewhere else in their minds at the time.
Assassinations, riots, people having to demonstrate and protest for basic justice promised by the Constitution, the war (do I get drafted or not?), lying politicians (nothing new there), intolerance of the counter-culture, intolerance of women’s rights, etc. were rampant at that time.
On the other hand, cultural developments in art, music, diet, lifestyle, alternative politics, society; a new attitude of inclusiveness for all races, cultures, languages, political views; began then, but not without opposition both of which continue today.
It’s probably a stupid suggestion, but the movie-musical “Across the Universe” portrays the sixties with Beatles’ songs (I sang along).
For someone from your generation and younger (e.g., my students wonder, “What’s the big deal?”), the question of what exactly was accomplished; like the the line in a Curt Cobain song, “I hope I die before I become Pete Townshend.” which is a spin of the line from a Who song (My Generation), “I hope I die before I get old.” At that time it was the generation gap.
Well, now we sixties people ARE old, so what now? Who knows?

Mr. Parnell, that was pretty insightful. Thank you.
Dom, no worries man. I’m the same History Channel fan you are. I wouldn’t exactly run out to tell my friends about it either. I’m the coolest nerd you’ll ever meet. JK. I saw the same documentary about Dr. King. It was really good and I appreciated what I was able to watch.

Who would’ve thought that you were into educational TV? Lol. Its cool that you’re interested in shows and channels like that. Don’t be embarassed. In my history classes in high school we discussed the 60’s at length….I just wish my college profs were as interested in it as my high school teachers. Oh well. Happy College Day!
I go to UCCS….University of Colorado at Colorado Springs.

History Channel is awesome. They do a great job on all of there show. I also enjoy TLC, Discovery, NGC, and History International. Modern Marvels, the Tech shows, and everything is wonderful. History Vs. Hollywood is one of my favorites. Got to watch something during the off-season, NFL Network doesn’t show enough Bronco stuff.

Dom:
I lived through those times and they were not all wonderful. I had to make the tough choices between getting drafted, going to Canada or jail or enlist. It was also the era of Frank Tripuka, Goose Gonsulin and stripped stockings.
However, I don’t come to this site for nostalgia. I come here for information and I would prefer an update as to your status to a history lesson. I say this with all due respect as I feel you are one of the good guys and I hope like hell we are able to keep you. I know this is the company site and you can’t really say too much, but a crumb or two would be helpful.

Firstfan - don’t you think that if there was anything meaningful that he could tell people about his contract status, he would? I’m as curious as the next guy, but I can practically guarantee that people like us (i.e., those that go to denverbroncos.com and read the blogs) will be among the first people outside the organization to know what happens to Fox. In the meantime, I just love the way he writes, so he can write about anything that crosses his mind, as far as I’m concerned. No matter what he writes about, I’m reading it with fingers crossed that he stays a Bronco.

who would have thought you would like educational tv shows? that’s pretty awesome. I love Mythbusters too
I don’t really tell ppl either, cause unlike you I’m not famous, I’m more easily perceived as a nerd. lolz
I hope you stay here!! but we’ll all love ya no matter where your at.

dom!!
It was today in my AP U.S history class that we talked about the 60’s. (I’m a junior in High School=)) And i would have LOVED to lived in that decade. The vietniam war was harsh, but intresting to talk about. There were so many assissinations not only in the U.S but in Vietnam too. I can’t even imagine what people felt and went though wile living and seeing live those assissnations.I would love to live back then for the music though. I LOVE Elvis, so to be able to see live about his career would have been cool! That has to be my fav blog from ya! =) I’m looking forward to wearing my New Mexico Lobos shirt with my CU sweater.. haha. I’am having a difficult time deciding where to go to school, but I’am sure it’ll come to me! =) Ihope you have a great week! Go Maphis! haha.. Man that was harsh! But the Lady Vols cam through for Tennessee, which was great!! Thank’s for the blog, talk to you soon!! =)

Where to go Fox. A true class act. Fans like to hear what you have, and we know that you’ll stay the course. That period -60’s sounds interesting and I may go to read up more. I know you guys are waiting for the draft and paractice to start, really season to start, and we can’t wait either. Take care and keep on doing what you do. We like your blogs regardless of what others say. Broncos all the way.

Foxy,
“MythBusters” is definently the show! I also like “How to Catch a Thief”, it gives you good in sight on how to protect your home from burglary. No need to be ashamed we all have our shows we watch.
I find the 60’s very interesting also, for my history class I really wanted to read a book on the JFK assasination but someone got it before I did. We also watched a movie on it in another class which was pretty intense, it took us through everything from the assination to the funeral.
I have to be honest I was not happy with how the NCAA Championships turned out. For my bracket the two teams I picked to go to the finals was UCLA and NC but they get ousted! Man after that I didnt even want to check up on where I stood.
CSU all the way this Friday!

Domonique,
Even though I’m not a Coloradan, there are plenty of colleges important to me whose apparel I can wear this Friday. I’ll probably wear University of Arizona, and Texas-El Paso apparel to honor the institutions which were in my LDS mission, as well as my Southern Utah University shirt because it’s my alma mater. Of course, I also have Texas-Austin and Penn State clothes, so I have various options. Congratulatiions to Kansas, the BIG 12 is my favorite power conference after all. As for geeky networks I watch, it’s all about the National Geographic Channel for me if I’m not watching NFL Network, NBA TV or a good game. Go Mavericks in the NBA! Anyway, Domonique, so long as you make plays for our Broncos consistently, it makes no difference how big of a geek (allegedly) you are. Yes, I think it’s in your best interests to look back on the ’60’s longingly but not necessarily wish you were alive in that time period. Like you, I’m young and I didn’t live through it, but I do know plenty of people addicted to the chronic from their experiences at Woodstock. That sucks, you have all those memories and all you have to show for it is an addiction that instantaneously leads to suspensions from Commissioner Goodell. Recent dabbling with the ganja may cause Aqib Talib’s prospects to plummet, so it’s a stupid addiction to have. Anyway, keep on being you, Domonique, you’re obviously one of our favorite Broncos!

I am also a History Channel fan. I am also History Channel Club member and I get a magazine from the History Channel. I guess that makes me a history nerd, but I am majoring in the social sciences so I sort of have to be a history nerd. I guess I should keep that on the down low so I sound cooler. Anyways, I hope Tiger Woods wins the Masters. Go Broncos!

Dave 888259-
I know, I know. I get frustrated this time of year when a whole bunch is going on at Dove Valley and we can’t be privy to any of it. I am starved for information and we get a feel-good story about the 60’s.
I do really really hope we can keep Foxworth. We need Broncos of character who contribute to the community, even if we have to read nostalgia for now. Peace Brother

If you want information that bad firstfan, go to the denverpost.com or check profootballtalk.com
Both are very good sights with new articles everyday on NFL news.

Sorry I hit tab and sumbit too quickly without realzing whatelse I wanted to say.
Nice blog Foxworth and I hope everything works out with your contract, I enjoy you being on the Broncos and I think you are an all around good man and a classy one.
Take care of yourself and try to not wrestle next to any television sets after eating McDonalds and leaving the bag on the floor.

Dominique-
I like your blog and love having you on the Broncos, but I have to call you out. You state that you don’t liketo let too many people know about your cravings for the History Channel, and then you put it in your blog?????? By the way, it is cool. I watch a lot of public television. Atleast it stimulates your mind instead of turning it into mashed potatoes.

Hey I am a huge bronco fan from texas. I am always getting mouthed about the broncos organization and everyone from my coworkers and students. I am a teacher. This year I am helping with a non profit organization Relay for life Cancer Society to raise money for my small town. I have emailed the broncos donation requests and was turned down because I do not live in Denver. ALl i am doing is asking for something for a silent auction or something. One to raise money for cancer and two to shut up everyone who mouths me for being a denver fan. It would be nice to get help from the broncos living so close to dallas I hate the cowboys. I have broncos everywhere on my house and truck. Please let me know if there is anything i can do to get something for a silent auction or anything. thanks

I’ve had seasson tickets since the mid 60s. My job moved me out of Colorado in 1989. Like you, I requested taht the Broncos donate an item for an major auction our local Humane Society has each year. Like you, I was turned down because the charity wasn’t local. There are very few professional organizations that will honor a request made outside their geographic area because of the massive volume of requests they get. I wouldn’t be surprised that an organization such as the Broncos gets at least 100,000 requests a yeatr. At, say, $10.00 a pop, that’s a bunch of money. Don’t bother buying a Bronco item and sending it to be autographed. I sent a Broncos hat with a self addressed envelope to Rod Smitn c/o the Broncos and didn’t even get the hat back unsigned. I also didn’t get anything back from several other pro teams, so, again, the Broncos are not unique in this area. You’re lucky, you have several close by pro teams to ask for autographed items. I live in Upper Michigan and the closest pro team is the Packer over 250 miles away. Your best bet is to go to some games of the sundry pro teams in your area and ask for autographs way before the game. Have an item you wish them to autograph with you.

Hey Dominique –
Keep up the lifelong learning. It will pay off in the long run…
If you are interested in the civil rights movement, the 60’s and music, you have to read Just My Soul Responding: Rhythm and Blues, Black Consciousness, and Race Relations by Brian Ward. It is the best book I have read about all three of the topics listed in the title, all at the same time. It gives an intimate protrait of life in the decade, and the struggle for equality, but all through the lens of what people where bopping their heads (and shaking their rears) to.
Amazon has it here:

Hey Dominique i heard you signed a one year contract and its great to know your going to be a denver bronco even though you might not want to be here because of issues with playing time. I was wondering if you had any good tips for the ACT i got it coming up soon and i was wondering if you knew a website for a practice one becaue i do not want to do badly if anything i want to do great so i can get into the college of my choice. We just started studing the civil rights movements and about some of the events that occured during the 50s. I also learned about Emit Till and i was swept with overwhelming anger about how those men were just let go. We also are learning about the little rock nine and their stuggles in that school. And the law seperate but equal and i dont get why or how those injustices were commited. I loved MLKs speech on how he wished that his children were judged not by the color of their skin but by the contents of their character and it really just gave me a urge to go do something for the comunity. learned about Malcom X and MLKs different outlooks on how to get equality and i dont know which side i would have gone too because i do not know how MLK could just turn the other cheek but sometimes i see that he had reason behind everything he said but i dont think if i would have been spit on that i would have just stood there its hard to imgine times like those. The sixties were a period of change and progress for the nation and civil rights and even though the south did not want to change it ways it was forced to and it was a grear period of term oil it is great to be learning about those things and i really liked the subject in class.
