Heading to Maui

Well to start off, I always welcome in new teammates with open arms. I know Boss Bailey, through Champ, obviously, and we have hung out a few times. He is a great guy, a great athlete and a great addition to the team. The other guys I don’t know as well but I am looking forward to meeting them and getting to know them and welcoming them to the Broncos.  That is assuming I will still be a part of the team. This time of year, you never know what is going to happen.

Let’s see what have I been up to? Chris Rock was in Denver; I went to that and it was a great show. It was really really funny and one of the good things about comedy is you can have your own little social commentary and disguise it as jokes. That is one of the reasons that I like Chris Rock; he is one of my favorites because a large portion of the stand-up was just his opinions and social commentary in general. He talked a lot about the elections and it was all very hilarious and eye-opening at the same time. I assume it will be on HBO; that is what Chris normally does. So I highly recommend it when it comes out or if he comes back to Denver.

On Friday I leave for the NFL Players Association meetings. I will be spending a rough week in Maui. The meetings are long and sometimes heated and emotional because it is a lot of people dealing with their careers. We normally go from about 8 a.m. to 12 noon or 1 p.m. everyday and one thing that does make it more than bearable is walking out of those crowded and hot meeting rooms and going to the beach or doing something fun in Hawai’i. That is definitely the positive of going to the meetings.

It is definitely not all fun and games. There is a lot more work than fun, but it is something that I am passionate about. I know I have expressed my desire to be involved in the union for a while and I think I am going to make a run at the executive committee, which will be a huge step. I think I will be one of the youngest players to have ever made the executive committee. So I will have more on that when I get back in a couple of weeks to let you know how it goes. But I am definitely going to take a shot at being involved a little more heavily and moving up in the union to gain a little more respect.

I have taken my girlfriend with me the past couple of years to Maui and she is coming along this year as well. She is really excited about it this year. Last year she wasn’t that excited, but I have convinced her that traveling is a good thing, so she is really excited. We are also going to take a trip to Egypt before the season starts. Traveling and long plane rides are growing on her, so Egypt should be a lot of fun. But more importantly right now, Maui should be a lot of fun and we are looking forward to it.

She definitely deserves this trip. She is a teacher now, but she has applied to law school and recently got back acceptance letters to a bunch of good schools. Two days ago she got accepted to Harvard and she has also been accepted to Columbia, NYU, Georgetown and Howard. A couple of the big ones like Yale are still out there and I know she got accepted to Duke and Virginia as well. Those are my top choices because they are ACC (Atlantic Coast Conference) schools. But wherever she wants to go is fine with me and I am really proud of her. We will have a good time out in Maui just relaxing.

Right now I am at the CU-Denver bookstore buying props for a College in Colorado public-service announcement that I will be doing soon. The next PSA will promote “College Friday,” which will be held on April 11. We try to get everyone in Colorado to wear an article of clothing from where they went to college or their favorite college to work or school. It really is to promote college for young people just to open dialogue between aspiring college students and college graduates. We got some great stories back from organizations who have participated in this from office Olympics or other weird events in the office. It is a really great event and it shows your support for College in Colorado. So on April 11, wear your college gear for “College Friday.”

I was glad to see so many responses from my last blog. I know there was a bit of lull after the season. I know a lot of responses were based on the rumors of me leaving. I appreciate all the support of the people.

With all the rumors floating around, it is a real helpless position – but it is not as stressful as you may think. When I was coming out of college – and at the Combine – it was really stressful because everything revolved on how well I did and how fast I ran. I ran pretty fast, so it all worked out. But here there is nothing I can do to sway anybody in any direction. The team made the decision to put a third-round tender on me. If they are going to trade me, that is their decision.  If some team is going to come after me in free agency, that will be their decision as well. It isn’t relaxing, but not as stressful as it may appear. If I have to go, I have to go. I will be real upset but I won’t be complaining and either way, I will be happy.

I love Denver, so if something happens the difficult thing will be leaving my relationships with the community in Denver and a lot of people outside of football. I have been really involved and on top of that, we had a tragic situation which has forced us all to grow closer with one another. I have always been prepared mentally to not play for the same team my entire career because very few players do that. But the difficult part would be leaving the community I have been very involved in and leaving the people outside of the football program that I have developed an abnormally strong relationship with.

Before I go, I want to say hello to a fellow graduate of my high school Western School of Technology & Environmental Science who commented on the blog and a shout-out to all the Wolverines, current past and future.

Talk to you in a couple of weeks.

All Ready!

hey fox whats up man…this is the b u t t hole that said we should trade you. man i hope your back in denver next season, that would sure stink if your not…but i guess it will all work out for the greater good, or so they say. anyway i just wanted to say whats up and let you know that i wouldnt trade you for two first round picks…maybe three but not two…jus kiddin, your too much of a true bronco to let go.

    peace brother

  2. 2champ4 Says:

    Fox,
I can’t evem imagine seeing you in a different uniform. You are one of my favorite all time Broncos.
One thing that worries me, other than you going to a different team, is a draft pick or free agent coming in and wearing #27. I think you should change your number to 27 in honor of DWILL. If anyone has the right to wear that number it should be you.

  3. topscribe Says:

Foxy, if you were not valued on this team, you would have already been gone. I think you know that. You are an asset to the team and to the community. I want to see you in the orange & blue as a
    cornerback (not as safety, heehee).

Any team you go to will be suddenly a better team, which means our
Broncos will decline just that much. In a word, stay.

  4. Firstfan Says:

    Mr. Foxworth:
Coach Shanahan and the rest of the ownership team know how important character is in a player. The Denver Broncos can never have too many players of your character. I look forward to seeing you in a Bronco uniform until you decide to hang up your cleats for good. You are a good player, but more importantly, you are a good man. As to the executive committee, you will make a great leader.

  5. LYNCHisOUTtoGETyou Says:

Hey Mr. Foxworth, very touching blog. An I agree with everyone else in saying, well, it would be very tough to see you go. Your one of the better players in the NFL that has the right attitude when he plays the game. You seem like such a nice person and I think anyone who would get to know you would feel very blessed to meet you. Another thing, I agree that if anyone is deserving to wear the #27, it is you. If not, I don;t think any other Broncos for forever should wear 27, or 29 as-a-matter-of-fact. I just want to leave saying in the end, I hope your still with Denver, but if not, I hope and pray that you have a fulfilling life and career, and hopefully you could stay in touch with us Broncos fans too.

    God Bless

  6. champrox24 Says:

you HAVE to stay in Denver!!! If you leave i will CRY!!!!!

    -PARIS (#1 BRONCO FAN!!!)

ps - have lots of fun on your trips!

  7. BLWWbroncos Says:

    Foxy,
If you leave Denver it’s going to be sad. Your a fan fave and no one wants to see you go.

Tell your girlfriend congrats for me, she seems like a very driven women and that’s nice to see in todays society. I’ll be sure to represent CSU on April 11, that is a great idea and I will for sure tell all my friends about it.

Have a great time on your trip to Egypt, and dont over work yourself in Maui.

    Love,
    Ashley

  8. WGBronco Says:

Firstfan said it right. They know what they got in you. I really think you’ll be a Bronco for life and the tender thing is just to see what a correct contract should be, after all Denver can match or pay a little more. I trust you will make the right decision and it works out for you.

DWill Forever and you wearing #27.

GO BRONCOS IN 2008 WIN THE BIG ONE

  9. funnycar Says:

Sure hope you stay. Your best days are ahead of you.Hard to figure out the dealings that go down with this club. Maybe they will draft a few more jailbirds to replace you if you leave…….

  10. sivocb24 Says:

Hey Fox..Boss,McCree,and Niko. All good additions I can’t wait for next year….Chris Rock is hilarious, I enjoy his stand ups . I also like Martin Lawrence,Dane Cook,Jamie Foxx, and Denis Leary. Congrats to your girl. Those are great schools, you guys are a very successful couple haha..I heard the Jets rumor and I am upset because you might not be a Bronco but I would be happy for you because you could start and make a name for your self as a great CB…I would much rather you be here though but it is what it is…I agree with the person who said that you should wear 27 this year. I hope you guys are still wearing the decal on the helmets. I have two vacations planned too,Vegas in April (what does a 16 year old kid do in Vegas ??) and I am going to Denver in Late July/Early August I hope to see ya in Orange and Blue at Camp !!!Have fun in Maui and Egypt.

  11. samparnell Says:

    Bro,
I hope you are not traded. I hope the low tender was just a ploy that didn’t work and that you will soon be paid as much as possible.
Wow! Your girlfriend is smart! What grade level does she teach? Law’s gain will be education’s loss.
When you attend the NFL Players’ Association meetings, I hope you advocate no retreat from any gains made in collective bargaining. I say this to you as a union brother. Some have complained about the money being paid during free agency, but it’s the teams offering it and they wouldn’t if they couldn’t. Have you read “Forty Million Dollar Slaves” by William C. Rhoden? Good luck on seeking the executive committee position.
I’m with you about Chris Rock’s social comedy. Love it! Wish Chapelle would come back. D.L. is good, too.
Good luck in Maui and don’t let Imhotep the MUMMY get you in Egypt!

  12. C2 Says:

Hey Fox, just wanna say that “your the man” and hope to see you in a bronco jersey this season. Go Broncos

  13. thestoll Says:

Hey Fox, hope u are here for many years and I agree that either you should wear the #27 or no none ever should.

  14. berlownacyo7s Says:

    Hey Fox,
I’m really torn about your situation, I really love you as a player and you add so much to the Broncos organization and I don’t want to see you playing for another team, but at the same time I feel sorry for you because you’re defenitely starting material on a lot of other teams, yet you’ve gotten the short stick here in Denver and have been patiently playing whenever and wherever you could contribute. Best of luck to you whether it’s here or with a different team.

I agree. If anyone is worthy of wearing #27 then it’s you.

  15. Famousamos101 Says:

    Mr Foxworth,

I’d very much like to see you stay in Denver, because you’re probably one of the most stand-up acts in the NFL these days. Your attitude on and off the field couldn’t be more appropriate: Nice guy off the field, mean guy on the field. May sound funny considering the caliber of players that play your position of denver, but I try and base alot of what I do (I play corner) on and off the field from what I see you doing.

You’re a Bronco, there’s no denying it. I think Shanny sees it, but what do I know? I’m a nobody who watches you play quality ball every sunday.

  16. BradJamesBroncoFan Says:

As always, a masterfully-articulated blog on your part. Anyway, I sincerely hope you return to us in the fall. The Broncos are class, Domonique Foxworth is class. Therefore, it makes perfect sense to keep you particulary because you are also a versatile defensive back that can fill up some holes if injuries strike. Have fun negotiating in Maui! I don’t think too much of meetings, but we need good leaders in all aspects and facets of society, even in the NFL so do your best and all will go well. You’re a much better leader than I am. Hopefully, once training camp dawns you’ll be posting more of these blogs because that confirms you’ll still be here. Have a good one. Thanks again for being a great asset to the franchise and Broncos fans everywhere!

  17. dgon2587 Says:

    D.Fox,
You’re what a football player should be, a competitor on the field, and a genuine person off the field. The fact that you take time out of your schedule to write this blog, and continue to write in it while the 3-rd round tender looms over you, shows character that surpasses most players in the NFL today. It’s pretty awesome that you’re trying to get involved with the union and keep active in the fairness for all players. Keep your head up, and this Hokie will always keep watch of your stats.

Oh and by the way, I believe in that win against the Steelers this year, you had a team leading 10 tackles. And you complete the only Defensive backfield that can stop the Colts (Harrison, Wayne, Gonzalez), The Pats (Moss, Stallworth, Welker) and The Packers (Driver, Jennings, Robinson) in Madden. I always put you on the speed guy. Haha. Take it easy big guy, stay strong.

  18. atwaters da man Says:

What up! Some teams are going to go after you, you are a great young player in this league but I think that everyone wants you to stay! We don’t have a lot of money this year so the only way I see you leaving you leave is if other team offered you a price that the broncos simply can’t afford. Money, money everyone puts so much into money but at the end of the day money comes and goes as it always will in everyone’s life but what I strive to have is a rich life : ) Enjoying what you do and who you do it with. To say I would be sad if you left in a understatement! You got to stay! Don’t listen to the people around you if they have money to gain by you leaving. R u going to work out with Jay, Tony and Brandon down in AZ this off-season? I own several clubs out here in LA and live by the famous steps that Curtis Martin made famous working out on..so come out and chill in LA if you like?

  19. superchop7 Says:

You can “walk like an Egyptian”….but…..please…..don’t DB like one.

Have a good trip, say hello to mummy for me.

  20. superchop7 Says:

FYI, in Egypt, conversations are held in much closer proximity than they are in the US, touching is also the norm while conversing.

If you stand back for personal space, it is a signal that you find the person that you are talking to distasteful. (DONT DO THAT !!!!!!)

    You’ll get used to it.

  21. bestinthewest24 Says:

Does anyone know anything about Elam yet. We CANNOT lose him, especially to the Chiefs.

  22. Al Wilson 4 Mayor Says:

Hey man! I love having you on the Broncos. I think you are a talented, very hard working db. I would hate to see you go, not just because of your ability on the field, but I think it is important to try to keep guys like you around for team leaders. God bless you!

  23. imready Says:

You love Denver and I know Denver loves you too Fox! It may be a good thing for you this year with the Broncos picking up a couple of safties, you should get to play more DB which seems to be a more natural position for you. It’s great to have 3 DB’s with great talent as you don’t miss a step when one comes off the field. Have a nice rest of off season, it will be soon time to get back to work! Go Broncos!

  24. 6cutlerfan6 Says:

    Have fun in Maui :)
And good luck getting on the executive committee

I wish the best for you wherever you end up next year
But I hope you stay with us!!

    go broncos!!

  25. cbracken2 Says:

    Hey Fox,

I know what your talking about with Maui and the beach. I lived in Hawaii for 3 short years and loved.
Man, I really hope you stay. We could easily have the best secondary in the league with you, Champ, Dre, John, Hamza and Marlon. Seriously, I think Denver should easily break the top 5 defenses this year.

Good luck wherever you go. I know you could probably start for almost any team in the league (don’t go to Oakland or SD ever. Please!!).

  26. b4life Says:

Dom if anyone should again wear 27 it should be you. People in denver have embraced the memory of D-Will and no one wants to see another player take that number except you. I know you wont wear it because tons of money is needed to do that so hopefully they retire it. To remember D-Will i think everyone in the secondary should get a frowhawk that would be a great tribute(just a thought). I was wondering if you could tell your audience what number you ran at the combine im guessing a 4.4 forty. Like i said if you leave denver i hope you have a great career and if you are a big free agent in the future hopefully denver will pick you up again. You didnt go to the probowl but your still gonna go to hawii. Hope to see you in denver for your whole career if not peace and hope you make a big name for yourself.

    GO BRONCOS.

    All ready

  27. ColoradoTeams#1 Says:

Don’t Go! You are such a great person on and off the field. You are an excellent rolemodel for youth. Be proud of yourself! This is how great you are: My cousin who is in college at Mesa State in Grand Junction is a Haters (Traitors I mean Raiders) Fan, and he admitted that he likes you as a person, role model and player. Now that’s big. You know how them Hater fans are, always be hatin’.

    Take Care,
    Julia

  28. neightp3 Says:

What’s with the talk about you leaving? You can’t go anywhere you have a legit chance to start, Bly is not… how should i say this… allergic to getting burned (not very physical either). Stay here and take it from him.

  29. tigervixxxen Says:

Great hearing from you, as always. Thanks for sharing about your girlfriend. It sounds like you both are lucky to have each other, which is a great thing to have. I can tell how proud you are of her and I hope she’s read what you said about her. Enjoy your trips together, thats amazing that you are able to go to those places. I really enjoy traveling myself so I’d love to know what other places are on your list.

I also enjoyed hearing about your aspirations in the union. As fans I don’t think we know much about how exactly the players union works so anything you can share with us about that would be very interesting. I hope all goes well for you in the meetings.

Its a long off season here for us Broncos fans. There is so much to look forward to but its a long ways off. It seems like the draft is so far away still. So its great getting a little update from you. Keep up the great work!

  30. cornersfan Says:

As always great to hear from you! I hope you have 2 wonderful trips! Tell your girlfriend congratulations on all the acceptance letters!! If she’s getting in to that many schools she must be smarter than you! :) You both make a great team in promoting colleges. Graduating in 3 1/2 years is amazing and then there’s your girl. It was my goal to graduate in 3 1/2 years just like you but when I changed majors it set me back a bit.
Again have a great time on your trips and tell your lil lady how proud we are of her :)

  31. killacal Says:

please don’t go you are one of my favorites in the league right now. when we drafted you i wondered what the he_ _. but you proved me wrong and showed me that you can be a shutdown corner, and a starter

  32. fem.foot.fana. Says:

Thanks for a great blog..Let us know when Chris Rock is back in town. Best wishes for deserving vacations, to both of you
Looking forward to you staying on board!

  33. rev79 Says:

I hope the rumor I just read on rotoworld.com is true… I hope we do get you signed on a long-term deal. I’d like to see you starting opposite champ this coming season, and using Dre in the nickel package… I think he’s valuable, but undersized against several of our division opponents big WR’s… Anyways, regardless of where you play on the field - I hope it is as a Bronco!

  34. jmonk Says:

the lions just released jones i saw he wouldnt be a bad pick up he ran us pretty well last season anoy 1s thoughts?

  35. jmonk Says:

    sorry people cant type today.

  36. ramboskithefan Says:

hey i think KJ would be good if we needed a running back…he is sick but injury prone and expensive…we just need to solid up that d with paymah and fox back and maybe sum young speedy cats from the draft and sum time in the same system….i mean when we won the superbowl…..we were getting ran on alot durring the season..but tightned up during the playoffs, kinda like the colts did last year…but anyways…that d cordinatior for us then, greg will overall wasnt the best but with time and reps the team fed into it…so lets keep the players and coaching and let them blossum…the O will be fine in due time….with cutler and marshall and sheff…all we gotta do is fill in the rest!! peace

  37. Cutler2Marshall Says:

we better not trade him and a 5th or just hime for d-rob, denver post said we would. i want him and paymah to take over for champ and bly when they retire

  38. ncheel2 Says:

Fox we just want you, one of the best on the field as a bronco. I hope the team can still measure excellent talent. Not many people can man the corners, the nickle and free and strong safety as you did. Most have problems at one position, so your value is tops to the team.

    Charles

  39. steveatwater5 Says:

I hope they let you come back here if not I think that there will be a void on the team and the community.your one of my favorite players

  40. steveatwater5 Says:

sorry the thing was being weird but to continue.your a very special player next year I think you could be in the pro bowl even,If you can’t make it back just make sure to take a good job one were the organization is top notch.I think your best game last year was against the chiefs in KC I don’t even know what to say anymore but il tell you this even if you end up leaving im still putting you on the broncos in madden every year lol, have fun in Egypt make sure to see the valley of the kings and all.well take it easy Fox I will be looking forward to your next Blog

always happy to hear from you

    Frank

  41. Orange_Nut Says:

    Fox -
Good to hear from you and glad to see you’re still here giving us insight into your life and the broncos org. Looks like I took more of an off-season than you did. But I’m back to the boards and blogs here and excited about the new season. I hope they don’t trade you but, if they do, thanks for everything you have done for the team and the community…and even for the NFL. I know you will continue to do great things wherever you go. But, for now, let’s plan on you staying here and helping the Broncos to kick butt in the AFC West!!

  42. broncos20 Says:

did u guys hear the trade rumors??the Raiders are trying to acquire Deangelo Hall for a 2nd and 6th round pick….AHAH@those guys..Hall and Asomugah ..trying to create a tandem like the BRoncos have in Bailey and Bly…..their both good but neither cant keep up with B-Marshll……

  43. sayre111589 Says:

Foxworth you will always be one of my favorite players for coming over on the last day of Training camp and autographing that ball for a little girl. You are awesome man I’ll root for you whatever colors you wear, hopefully Broncos blue.
You are well respected, and I know when you get out on that field next year people will know why you are untouchable in trades, and I have a crazy feeling that is why Shaun Rogers is not on the team.
You and Paymah are probably the best situation corners in the league, and I would hate to see either of you go. We will be sorry if we let you go, but good luck to you, and never change

  44. RaiderHater9899 Says:

Another great blog! For my writing class we have to bring in an article or opinion page & typically I”ll bring in yours. They are amazing!

But, I’m really curious to find out how feel about the whole Javon thing.

Can’t wait to see you back on the field!!!

  45. RunYouOver Says:

    Fox!

I just read that you were elected to the executive committee!

    Congratulations!

  46. tigervixxxen Says:

I just heard about your achievement of getting on the executive committee. Congrats! I can’t wait to hear all about it. You make us Broncos fans proud.

  47. // / yardo Says:

Congrats Fox on making Executive Committee.

  48. ncheel2 Says:

I wish our players at Miami were as talented on the field and off the field as you. It seems they can only handle one thing at a time, but when it comes to football they do it so good. But, Fox you are the man- NFLPA executive committee- WOW! Man you bring so much to this team, and to think that they even were considering trading you is rediculous. I can see you starting for the bronx one day and hopefully soon, if not you are the best 3rd corner we have and nickle. Thanks for taking time to do this blog because I know that you are working out also. Too bad other teams don’t have players like we do on this team. Can’t wait til practice and the season starts.

    Charles,Miami

  49. b4life Says:
