Guitar Hero with Peyton Manning?

Let’s see, what have I been up to? Well I have been keeping my writing group going and we had some pretty good classes, some better ones than usual which is always fun. That is probably one of my focuses now that we are in the offseason and we are unfortunately not playing anymore, is spending time at the Boys and Girls Club. I still get up and work out in the mornings over at Dove Valley and everyday that I am over there I spend about an hour or more with my guys from the equipment room and go and support their basketball team. They were 2-1 before I started going to the games and now they are 0-2 since I have been going. So hopefully I am not bad luck.

I did get away for a little bit. I went to New York during the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Holiday and saw The Color Purple. It was ok, I am not much into musicals but my girl wanted to see it so I went with her. It was fun and as good as a musical could be.

My girl is involved with Teach For America and she is an English teacher so she has a lot of speeches on her iPod. So on the flight, I felt it was apropos to listen to the mountaintop Dr. King speech on the way there and back. I felt like I did my duty in celebrating the holiday by listening to the speech. It was kind of lazy, but it was one of the better speeches that I have ever heard. It took place right before he died and he references death which is a little scary.

I watched the presidential debates, which I guess is a halfway decent segue because Dr. King was some what of a political figure. The debates were kind of WWF-ish, which made it more interesting and fun.

After New York, we went down to Washington D.C. where she is from and hung out with her family and I got to see my brother who lives in the area also. We had a good time.

While I was there I learned how to play Guitar Hero from her little brother. His name is Peyton Manning, so I played a little Guitar Hero with Peyton Manning. He is like 13 and his grandfather’s name is Peyton Manning so it is not like he was named after the quarterback. I always give him a hard time about it and he always gives me a hard time because we haven’t fared well against the Colts. I had a good time hanging with him learning how to play Guitar Hero. I was exposed to a lot of classic rock that I don’t think under normal circumstances I would be exposed to. But now I can play Barracuda, Rock and Roll All Nite and some Tenacious D. Let me see what else can I play? Ummm… can’t think of any more but we had a good time competing on the Guitar Hero. I didn’t think I was going to like it, but now I think I am going to have to invest in my own. It is the type of game that you need to play with someone because it is kind of weird to play with a plastic guitar all by yourself.

I guess we should talk a little football. I am excited about Coach Slowik running the defense. No offense to Coach Bates, but I was surprised that Coach Slowik didn’t become the coordinator last year. Not that Coach Bates didn’t deserve the job, but I think Coach Slowik is just as deserving. We all expected him to be named the coordinator last year and we were looking forward to playing for him, but I guess when you get the opportunity to have a coach like Coach Bates you don’t pass that up. I am happy that he is stepping in. We are all happy with it, we expected it last year but it took one year to get there but we are happy that it is here now. I am really looking forward to it.

When we played our best defense last year we were doing a lot of the things that we are going to start doing now. It is going to give our playmakers better chances to make plays and I think it is going to shift a lot of pressure on the secondary. He is a secondary coach so I think he feels comfortable with the pressure of us succeeding being on the secondary and hopefully that alleviates some of the pressure on the front seven. I can’t think of anything bad about the situation, I am happy about it.

I have a much better relationship with him than I did with Coach Bates or Coach Coyer, obviously since he has been my coach for as long as I have been in the league. It is very very sweet, but just a little bit bitter because he will no longer be able to focus on the secondary so he won’t be in the meeting room with us anymore. But it is part of the game and something that it took some getting used to. In college you go into the room as a freshman and that is pretty much going to be your core group for the next four years with a few additions and a few graduations. But in the NFL, it is subject to change.

I expect a lot of changes; including Coach Slo in the secondary, I expect a lot of new faces in the secondary to be honest with you. It is going to be a little sad, but hopefully it will make our team better and I definitely feel like it will.

As far as the Super Bowl is concerned, it is hard to go against the Patriots right now. I don’t know if anybody in their right mind can go against the Pats, but upsets happen and the Giants are probably playing the best that they have played since the ’90s. They are playing some really good football right now and they showed that they can compete with the Patriots in that last game of the season. I think that game was the catalyst for their playoff run and maybe the catalyst for them making the biggest upset in NFL history. They definitely have a shot, but it seems like it will be a long shot.

I don’t really watch football when we are not playing. As my job I get more than enough of it. I assume everybody reading this, whatever their job is, doesn’t immerse themselves in their work during their free time or at least they try not to. I try not to get too involved in watching football but I definitely try to catch the end of each game because they are pretty exciting. I enjoyed the Giants game, as a compassionate person it was good to see Lawrence Tynes hit that field goal. I guess you can look at it a lot of different ways, it was sad to see Brett Favre… I don’t know I have never been a big Brett Favre fan so it wasn’t that sad to be honest.

I have been able to catch a little college basketball. In fact, while I was in New York I came into the hotel and saw the (Maryland) Terps and the (North Carolina) Tar Heels were playing and I was sure to text Dre’ Bly cause the mighty mighty Terrapins pulled off a big upset. It was a great game and I was impressed. I don’t know anyone on the team because I have been gone for so long, which really reminded me how old I was because there was not one person on the team that I recognized. I have been in the league three years, so maybe there is one guy that was a freshman then and is now a senior, but who knows. I enjoyed watching it and I got to know a couple of guys; (James) Gist played well and the point guard from Venezuela (Greivis Vasquez) was really impressive. So go Terps!

Anyway, I will talk to you all again after the Super Bowl.

All ready!

Welcome to the evil world of Guitar Hero. For the past two years or so, the only video games I’ve been playing have been various iterations of Guitar Hero, and nowadays, some Rock Band.
“it was sad to see Brett Favre… I don’t know I have never been a big Brett Favre fan so it wasn’t that sad to be honest.”… Awesome. Great phrasing, maximum humor on that one. Glad to have you back, Fox, keep up the good work.

    Foxy,
Im glad you had some time off and enjoyed a trip to New York, sounds like fun! Guitar Hero sounds like a blast, never played myself but my friends swear by it, so I guess Im going to have to try it out now.

For the Super Bowl Im going to go with the Giants! I would LOVE to see an upset, and that would be a pretty big upset.

Oh and I absolutley love your comment about Brett Favre, I really thought that Green Bay would be going to the Super Bowl, but when he threw that INT pass I didnt feel for him at all. Im not a big Packers or Brett fan.

Cant wait to hear from you again, when I saw you wrote I literally freaked out. I know Im a dork but I was use to reading every week and then just like that they were gone! So thanks for the update!

    Love
    Ashley

So glad to hear from you! I wasn’t sure how long of a break you would take, so I am very happy I decided to check in today. I think most Broncos fans are rooting for the Giants, we want to see the Pats lose. But I agree, its going to be tough. Love the Guitar Hero Peyton Manning story! I look forward to hearing from you soon!

I’ve been to D.C. and I really liked the city. I got to see the Secret Service escort Cheney (I think it was him or some else very hight in the food chain) leave the Eisenhower building. There was plenty of security and the Secret Service had automatic weapons pointing out of their SUVs. That was pretty cool because that is not something you see everyday.

I will admit I watch football whenever I can but right now NFL Networks’ re-airing the AFC Championship game, so I’m watching Fresh Prince instead because I’m tired of seeing the Pats succeed. GO GIANTS!!! Oh yes, Fox, there’s something else you should know. Traditionally, no one smacks the Patriots better than our Broncos. In your time, we’ve had great success against them. I wonder if there are current Maryland Terps that will become good Broncos this April. Tomorrow, NFL Network will have classic reairs of Super Bowls with one airing every day between now and Feb.3, so that’s exciting. However, I don’t do radio station work in my off time, so I get your point. One more thing, a college professor I had at Southern Utah University taught Peyton Manning while he was at Tennessee, so I’m connected to the real Peyton Manning. Beat that! Just kidding, keep progressing under Coach Slowik and I know next season will be better as we battle the Bolts for AFC West supremacy.

    Fox,

We, as Bronco fans are so glad to have someone with your class and inteligence with this franchise. Personaly, I was bummed when we traded for Dre Bly. He is a good corner, but I think you are every bit as good as he is, and no disrespect to Mr. Bly, but I think most fans would agree with me when I say we would much rather see you lined up along side Champ. It is my hope that you remain with this franchise for many years. Please keep up these posts. They always make my day so much better!!

    Thank you & GO BRONCOS

He’s back !! I can’t wait for the Pro-Bowl to see Champ and Lynch play. I just hope we keep you Champ Bly Paymah Abdullah Lynch and Ferguson lol I want you all back.I never played Guitar Hero. Everyone says they love it I just never gave it a chance. That is weird that the kids name is Peyton Manning.Hahaha I don’t think your bad luck….maybe lol. I hope we see you Champ and Dre’ making plays all 2008. I hope this system works out. That Giants game was sick my best friend is a Packers fan so I kind of felt bad but then I thought of the AFC Championship in 2005 he wanted us to lose so now I really don’t care.I do love Brett Favre though I am still mad that he beat us in OT though. As for the SUPER BOWL I am rooting for New England. I am born and raised over here but a die hard Bronco fan lol. I met Ellis Hobbs a couple of weeks ago I got a hair cut with him. My barber Troy is friends with him so it was cool. Go Broncos in 2008 and PLEASE STAY A BRONCO FOX !!!

Just to echo what others have said before me, we are proud to have such a standup guy playing for the Broncos. Not all NFL players as you know are that humble and down to earth. As far as your girl being an English teacher, so is my wife. We both work at Ridgeview Academy. A school/dentention facility for adjudicated youth from Colorado. I know she gets as much pleasure from her job, as you do from working at the Boys and Girls club. Keep it up the work on and off field and you will always be remembered.

Sounds like you’re having a good time. Well I’m stuck in Chem 111 now. :( So my Broncos offseason is not so hot right about now. Keep the blogs coming and keep on having a restful offseason!

Don’t feel too bad about Guitar Hero. It takes a while to get use to it, I prefer Madden.

Sounds like you had a good holiday, but consider yourself lucky, I would give about anything to be able to see The Color Purple on Broadway.

Great to know u are back Fox. I know the team is going through some growing pains, and we area all BRONCOS 4ever. I look to see u making things happen in the secndary. You should be starting, so we hope for the best. I think the D will back again

  17. Denwu Says:

    To be Honest Fox,

I’m really happy that Bates is gone. I think he is the big reason why our defense struggled this year. I was unhappy with some offensive playcalls too, but one thing is for sure, Bates did not help this team and I loved seeing that Shanny’s first move of the postseason was get rid of Bates. I mean Coyer had us stout and strong, with big Al Wilson out, we needed something better than what Bates was selling. I hope Slowik is as good as you say he is. I know you’re a team player which is why I’ve always liked you. Hell you surpassed your expectations coming into the league starting with Darrent and Bailey, and to see how far you’ve come makes me happy as a lifelong Bronco fan. Let’s hope that O line heals up and that D Line matures a little more into what we could be and let’s start the year with perfection on our minds.

I think Belicheck started a new mentality for elite teams and as Broncos we should use a similar motto of “Do Your Job”. Because it brought out the best in NFL History. Remember that the Patriots struggle against the Broncos and are lucky they didn’t play us this year, but we’ll get them next year. Be safe and be smart in the offseason. Stay focused some guys don’t have an offseason.

  18. superchop7 Says:

Not sure why we would need a bunch of changes in the secondary.

Hell, it’s as good as it gets.

    It’s a strength.

If you want to win, play to your strengths.

Add Kenny Phillips and your done.

I know you guys will be playing alot of bump and run,,, It’s about friggin time !…..I’ll live and die with the quality of corners we have…..Paymah was lights out in the Vikings game…..looked like Lester Hayes was on the field.

I hope that Slowik is a blitz machine, I hope he allows the DT’s to penetrate all day long. Brady can’t hit the broad side of a barn if you flush him out of the pocket, ie pressure wins.

    And zone sucks.

BTW, the shop I worked at in Denver (I have worked there many times since 1980) was the one that did some work on G Warrens 63, his brother was tough to work with, but G came by and we were able to explain the situation. (Previous work on vehicle was done by amateurs, OK thats too nice, the car was screwed up by a bunch of hacks) He couldn’t get all the work finished due to the Oakland deal, however, it purred like a kitten when it left.

When I think of MLK, my thought is….(being part Indian)….that Indians need a voice and a leader, MLK did great things, and yet most of my people live in poverty. I would love to be the voice, but I’m only part indian, that would never fly with the tribe. We were invited to join the million man march, but declined, I wish MLK was here today, I think he would have had something to say whether the elders liked it or not.

    Peace.

You are awesome on the field and it sounds the same in Guitar Hero. I, personally, am decent guitarist in the game.
How close are you with the other guys in the secondary? You guys seem to have a close bond. I hope you guys get an NFL record interceptions this coming year.

So Bates is gone. No offense to him, but I think that’s a great move. You guys have a ton of talent on the field, but his scheme just wasn’t getting it done. Hopefully next year you can tighten things up a bit.

I heard rumors that there might a move involving Walker. What are your thoughts on that?

Great blog again. Glad to see you’re still doing it. I’m already pumped up to watch the Broncs next season.

    How about those Giants?
