I’ve done a lot of community stuff this past week. I went to the Boys and Girls Club Gala on Saturday. It was an amazing experience. It was just amazing to hear how much promise the kids have. And how much the money and time that’s contributed actually goes to use, because sometimes you feel like when you’re giving to charities you don’t know what really happens.
But just seeing the kids who received awards give speeches and then they had dances and performances and they just lit up. That was just a great experience on Saturday.
I was there with Cindy Galloway-Kellogg, and she’s been amazing for me. And that’s something that’s been important to me is getting into the community. She’s been amazing just setting up opportunities for me — not being too pushy, but letting me do as much as I can.
On Monday I ended up going to Jeff Shoate’s son’s school for an assembly. Myself and Champ, Curome, Steve Cargile — we went over there and did a whole program for them about health and sports and education. And that was really exciting. Shoate asked us to do it.
After that I went to a Boys and Girls Club meeting about the Darrent Williams Teen Center they’re putting up. I plan on being just as involved in that as I can, and actually maybe teaching some programs with the teens. Maybe a writing class or something like that since I enjoy writing so much. I’ll be able to pass that on to those kids.
After the meeting I ended up staying down there and playing basketball and playing games with the kids until like 8:00 at night. It’s just fun to be around those kids. I was pretty much playing point guard — just distributing the rock. I saw some of the kids from the program. You get close to these kids and are really vested in their success.
Today actually John Lynch’s foundation is having their Salute the Stars luncheon and I’m going to that. So, I guess that’s the theme of this week is service and community.
I don’t think people take into account how much we actually enjoy doing it. At least I can speak for myself and a couple of other players — I know John and Champ, some of the bigger name guys, and I know Dre’s done some things in the short time he’s been here. We really enjoy doing that.
I think we all accept the responsibility of being role models, and accept the responsibility that comes with being in the spotlight. I mean, I definitely do. I welcome the challenge of giving that 100% positive role model to young kids. And not only being a role model, it’s going out and participating hands-on. Not only just giving money and hoping they do the right thing with it. You’ve got to go in there and work with it.
But this Darrent Williams Teen Center is going to be my new passion, I think. I’m really excited about that. Cindy’s been talking about ways to raise money, because right now it’s just an idea. Supposedly it will be up by next January. They already have some funding, but they’re waiting on the state. So all you readers can write a letter to your state congressman or whatever to get it straight. And buy the Broncos license plates, too, because that money goes to the center.
You can drive by the teen center one day and say, “My 30 bucks went to that right there.”

Hey Dominique! Great blog. It’s nice to have a player on the team that does it. It definatley makes us “Broncos fans” feal like we’re closer to the team. On your last blog I suggested for you to change your number to 27 for Darret and I don’t know if you saw it or not but I’d like to know if you’re going to change it or not and I just can’t wait till week one! I’m one anxious 14 year old.
If you do plan on changing your number for D-Will could you mention it in your next blog? I’d really appreciate it.
Great blog! Keep up the good work! I want to win the superbowl just as much as you and all the other guys on the team do cause I live in California and I’m sick of all the Raiders and Chargers fans talkin crap. It’s up to you guys to shut em up. Lets bring it home to Denver!!! GO BRONCOS!!!

I think that I’ve come up with different ways to salute D-Will, one of which is getting more active in the community. This teen center is important and teaching this class is actually something that is somewhat motivated by D-Will in just making the best of the time you have here. I think that’s a delicate thing, to try and put somebody’s number on. I think to show him the most respect is to not wear it, to be honest with you.
I think the Broncos should “RETIRE” # 27. That’s the best thing they could do!
true i feel you there dom…best respect is not to wear it///
I agree with both Dom and finkman.
I would love to see a special spot on the ring of fame for D-Will since Atwater was already inducted.
Great Job Dom!!
Great stuff you guys are doing!
Domonique,
I’ve purchased my Broncos plates and they make me proud every time I look at them knowing that the money went to the Darrent Williams Center.

Popular Science…
I couldn’t understand some parts of this article, but it sounds interesting…
Broncos are the best team in the NFL, As far as I m concerned, we have great fans, really the whole city of Denver will say that. In Denver if you want to watch the Broncos in style good luck with that, all the Broncos premium seats get sold out the day they show up in ticketmaster. Broncos tickets are sometimes 2 or even 5 times the face value. Anyhow If you get lost I have a new sight for u guys

I work for te Boys and Girls Club in Scottsdale, AZ on an Indian Reservation, and I love it!
Also, I would like to know how can I get involved in your organzaion where I can build a youth league in football here at the club?
I want to start a league and invite other clubs to play against other cities, how can you help me do this?
But, I like to know where can we get grants for our organization, and how can we get someone a football player to visit our site for the kids?
Also, more information about your coaching league.
Thank you, and have a wonderful week!
