The Broncos announced on Thursday that running back Selvin Young has been waived.

Young joined the Broncos in 2007 as a college free agent from the University of Texas. He played 23 games (13 starts) in two seasons with Denver, totaling 201 rushes for 1,032 yards (5.1 avg.) with two touchdowns and 38 receptions for 247 yards (6.5 avg.).

I hate to say. I said this was coming. So I won’t.

I think Torrain will be next. No biggie that’s how the new Denver Broncos will roll. Lucky 13 is right we need this. 2005 was good but we came up short. People have dubbed us New England Patriots west. Well the Cardinals were bad until Ken Whizenhunt arrived and the Cardinals are Steelers west and they went to the Superbowl last year. I hope we can become a dominating dynasty like the Patriots.

  3. aSharpeIdea_84 says:

Yeah, too bad I liked this kid. Remember it’s not about last year. This is a NOW league, and things are very different now.

I’m glad they kept Torain because Shanny has an eye for greatness at the RB position and he saw a lot of potential in Torain so that tells me something.

After drafting Moreno, and I LOVE that pick, I figured Young or Torain would go. I think they let go the right guy, but I also think Selvin, like the Terminator, will be back. I hope he doesn’t go to KC.

Best wishes Mr. Young, and go tear it up somewhere man!!

broncos~4~life, man your right, he’s taking control of these guys, and McDaniels is playing DB. Love it, though I didnt like that low throw by Orton (could of been Simms since the camera didnt show who throw it) into the ground that Royal caught. Lol “Hey use this hand, thank you”
Thats one of the perks about having a young coach, he get physical with the guys. He’s not afraid to boss the QBs around. If you havent watched the vid on the home screen do it now, open a new tab or window and watch it you have to see how well McDaniels is coaching these guys. This gentleman is a nice example of how you coach at any level.

  5. Greatness007 says:

Don’t forget fellas. They like the Rookie free agent they signed from Florida running back Kestahn Moore.

  6. Dynamicdave says:

thatdude807, I agree. I also think Vernon Fox won’t be kept.
Coloradocutler, agreed. I also like JJ. He will do well. “Deify_you” thought Jordan would be waived? That won’t happen. He was signed to a lengthy contract with guaranteed money. He is here for awhile. He is one of NE castoffs and is a McD favorite.

  7. Deify_you says:

Dynamicdave yeah because 2 years is considered a lengthy contract and 2.5M with 500k signing bonus in guaranteed money is really nothing. Come on you really think they wouldnt release Jordan if he wasnt proving it on the field? They fired Shanny, now he’s sitting at home collect 20M. FYI I think your thinking of JJ. he signed a 4 year 10M contract.

  8. McDanielsDomain09 says:

i actually think that knowson will be the primary rb this year nd for years to come. nd i believe that hillis will actually be the second rb. hillis runs harder than the others nd both lamont jordan nd corell are more injury prone than hillis is. plus hillis is a better reciever outta the backfield than just bout every one except knowson. plus i think that jj arrington will be a special teams player. but well see. im excited about every aspect of the team. the linebacker corp looks amazing. we got woodyard, bailey, doom, williams, nd ayers not to mention larson had a great year. Im excited bout the secondary. im excited about the backfield nd of course the GREATEST recieving corp in the NFL! C. Jackson, Stokely, Gaffney, Marshall, Royal, Scheffler, nd Graham. u serious man. I cant wait for the season !!!

    GO BRONCOS!!!

  9. Dynamicdave says:

Deifey_you, I think you’re right, it was JJ I was thinking of. I still think Jordan will stick, though. McD knows what he’s capable of, being a NE boy. He would be excellent on short yardage plays. Of course, we always have Hillis to pound the rock.

  10. Dynamicdave says:

McDanielsDomain09, yes, they talk about how Moreno can be a 3 down back but I would hate to see him have a short career like Terrell had. Use the big backs like Jordan and Hillis for the short yardage.

  11. SBXXXII..Iwzthr! says:

Ahh, I’m sad.  I really liked you, Selvin.  I really thought you could be great.  I hope you catch on somewhere else!  God speed to you!
    Go Broncos!!

  12. Deify_you says:

Dynamicdave I read an article on Rotoworld 10mins ago(I know they’re not legit, most of their stuff are rumors) they predicted the next RB to go is Torain. Which yeah the guy hasnt proven himself like Jordan, Buckhalter, Arington. Thats why its important for him to give it his all. Right now he’s not participating in mini camp, neither was Young, due to injury(Young failed the physical if anyone didnt know, thus was waived) so he has a disadvantage since all the RBs are going to have better knowledge of signal calling, audibles, and their assignments.
Incase you were wondering why I thought Jordan would be gone, last night some of the guys this site and I were trying to figure out who would be what like starting RB and a 3rd down back. So I was looking at the 2008 stats and he was the only guy who wasnt preforming at the same level as all the other RBs, it was just a prediction based on 2008 stats.

  13. mrbroncofan says:

i like the wide variety of rbs we have from veterans in buchalter and jordan to a return man in jj to a big man in hillis to the unknown in torain to a speedster (he’s more than that) in moreno. when one guy is strugglin we can use one of the others. what ever we do opponents will have to be ready for more than one kind of rb.

would not be surprise though if another one of these guys gets released. not sure if there will be room for all of them to be on the team. kinda think that next time will be during training camp or one of the last cuts to give these guys a chance to compete against each other.

  14. mrbroncofan says:

so has moreno taken a number yet? maybe he will take 35.

  15. Broncobailey99 says:

I think we’re gonna keep a lot of our RBs and store some in the practice squad for when/if we need them…

  16. Deify_you says:

this is the predicted Broncos offensive depth chart made before we aquired Moreno. http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/teams/depth?team=den&formationId=17
    Defense 3-4 http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/teams/depth?team=den&formationId=15

    sounds good to me.

  17. Greatness007 says:

Fox, Moulton, Bell, Green, Jones, Putzier, and Willis are on the clock. They are on my next to get cut list!

  18. UUB says:

Everyone before you post! Let give a final MILEHIGH SALUTE to Selvin Young! Here’s to you buddy! Get that groin healed and get back to you form.

  19. hotsizzle says:

Anybody know anything about Champ? Has he rehabed ok. He needs to be 100% come august.

Hillis is going to have a huge year, as is woodyard. I am going to be bold and predict that woodyard get some type of award this year, maybe probowl honors or something like that.

  20. Deify_you says:

hotsizzle Champ will be a 100% come August, still unsure about Boss though, havent heard any news on him. Wonder how Torain is doing also otherwise he could be waived by next week.

  21. Dynamicdave says:

Last I read, Champ is going to be ready for training camp. Boss is healing well and also should be ready for training camp. Torain, I have bot heard. He needs to be ready in a hurry or as you all have said, he will miss his chance. That window of opportunity gets smaller and smaller.

  22. Dynamicdave says:

    Meant not heard, not “bot.”

  23. Greatness007 says:

I though when Mc Daniels was back pedaling. I thought he was gonna pull a hamstring. Forgot till he turned around that he’s young enough to do that all practice. If he wanted to. He’s showing energy and like B-Marsh was twittering. He gonna try and have career highs this yr in the new offense.

  24. Dynamicdave says:

Oh, forgot to mention. New to the blog. Just signed up today. Used to post all the time to the RMN. Hate the postings at the Denver Post. Too negative. Too angry all the time. Like to talk football, not “whoa is me” type stuff. Looking forward to an exciting season of Broncos football. As new as this team is, I truly can’t say how Denver will do, but I like the talent we picked up and I feel that they can be something special. GO BRONCOS!!!!!!!!!!!

  25. BradJamesBroncoFan says:

It’s sad that Selvin has to go but that’s the nature of the NFL. Hopefully, he latches on somewhere else and has a productive career, just not here. Thanks again for all you’ve done, Selvin. GO BRONCOS!!!

  26. hotsizzle says:

D-Dave thanks for the info. With all the activity I am looking forward to seeing some improvement with the special teams. I spend some time in Chicago and was always envious of their special teams play. It’s such an underrated part of the game.

  27. Greatness007 says:

Well let extend my welcome and hope you get and can give good info.(Dynamicdave) I been thinkin they might try and play Boss as a InsideBacker. I think if he wanna start he gotta do it there. Any thoughts?

  28. hotsizzle says:

We never got to see Boss really play, but when healthy he is pretty awesome. Quick, big and can tackle. If he can get and stay healthy he will be a starter.

  29. Greatness007 says:

Hotsizzle I seen him when he was with the Lions. Thats why I was excited when he came here. I think at the WOLB it will be Doom. At the SOLB it will be Ayers. Both starting this yr. So I think he can play beside D.J. as the other ILB.

  30. UUB says:

They might put Ayers as a 5-tech. I know he’s kinda small for that position. It might work though.

  31. hotsizzle says:

I can see that working. Honestly the LB’s that we have are gong to be great. To be honest I am still waiting for D.J. to have a huge season. He is due.

I was also thinking about the Jordan situation and I think he was signed because JD wasn’t originally going to draft a RB. Moreno was available at I think JD thought he was the best player on the board. I really don’t think Jordan can do anything that Hillis can’t do. Plus, Hillis is young and hungry.

  32. Greatness007 says:

I was thinking they would put Kenny Peterson at that position. With Carlton Powell on the otherside. Hopefully Chris Baker can play the NT like i think he can. Nt doesn’t have to do much passrushing. Just eat up blocks and Let our wolves(LBs) roam.

  33. hotsizzle says:

Ya what’s the deal with Chris Baker. I have seen that he was highly thought of, but had some character issues. Kind of like Marcus Thomas. He might be a nice suprise.

  34. Greatness007 says:

Hillis is not going anywhere. They gonna play him at FB, HB, and RB. he’s gonna be all over the field

  35. Greatness007 says:

He was a beast at Penn State. Even though he got in trouble I thought he’d still get drafted.

Oh yeah I forgot about Marcus Thomas. He will compete for that position too.

As well as Crowder and Moss well be back-up OLBs

  36. UUB says:

Reid might be in the mix too. They signed Andre’ Davis to play that ILB position. So don’t forget him.

  37. hotsizzle says:

Well regardless of how this season ends up, you have to admit it has been a entertaining off season. I am so ready for some football. I’m frothin’

  38. Dynamicdave says:

With Denver trying to trade Moss in the 7th, I have a feeling he won’t be on the team when the final cuts are made. Boss needs to stay healthy 1st and foremost. I would think he may play, as Greatness007, said, at ILB. There is going to be a lot of competition, so Boss needs to be at the top of his game. Being out with injuries, rust may have set in. I think Chris Baker on the O side of the ball, is going to start. He is a big kid (6’2″, 326 lbs.) so he will open some holes for our new star RB, Moreno. The possibilities for this new team are endless. I’m ready.

  39. Dynamicdave says:

Yeah, almost forgot about Davis as a MLB. This ought to be interesting to watch over the next 3 months. We have all seen for ourselves, nothing is safe.

  40. Dynamicdave says:

Sorry about the Chris Baker thing. I forgot he is D. Someone mentioned him today on another blog and losted him as a OG. DOH! Big kid, anyways.

  41. Dynamicdave says:

So, to talk about Baker, will he start at NT or will Fields start and teach him the ropes for the 1st year?

  42. Dynamicdave says:

Seth Olson was the kid I was thinking of. Do you think he will start as a G?

  43. hotsizzle says:

I don’t think Olsen will start, but he will get playing time. I think he is versatile and will move around.

  44. Dynamicdave says:

Hotsizzle, I noticed that McD is going “big” with his picks. He likes bulk over speed/finesse. This team will be so different to watch. I’m psyched.

  45. hotsizzle says:

Oh yea, this years team will be so different from the past. Which I think is great. Shanny, love him, was so predictable. He was trying to remake the same team he had when he won the superbowl. The game has changed!

  46. Dynamicdave says:

Yeah, with all the changes Denver is making, it will be “entertaining” to say the least. With the talent Denver has acquired, I think it will be difficult for other teams to get a handle on them (which teams were doing with Shanahan). I think the Chiefs will be very different, as well. The Chargers will be better on D and the Raiders, well, they will be bottom feeders.

  47. hotsizzle says:

With Shanny gone and the Raiders being so crappy will the bitter rivalry be the same?

    I am not sure

  48. hotsizzle says:

Don’t get me wrong I will always hate the Raiders, but I hate the Chiefs and chargers also.

  49. Dynamicdave says:

I think Al and Pat still are rivals, so it will continue. I also know there are still a few Broncos on board who dislikes the Raiders (like Champ, although he hates Rivers even more). Royal doesn’t like them for all those “cheap shots” they took. Me, I’ve been a Raider hater since 1972. I also dislike the Cowgirls.

  50. mrbroncofan says:

with all these players that everyone is talking about on the front seven: davis, boss bailey, d.j., doom, fields, thomas, baker, woodyard, moss, ayers, etc.

man we got more than i thought. the potential talent is there. maybe that is why mcd was so willing to take moreno. if mike nolan can coach these guys into monsters than there will be nothing to worry about.
