Yellow Jacket Connection

December 30th, 2011 - 9:07am by Stuart Zaas

Broncos wide receiver Demaryius Thomas spent his first season at Georgia Tech with Lions Pro Bowl wideout Calvin Johnson. Thomas soaked up as much as he could from Johnson, who was a senior, which was evident this past December.

Thomas and Johnson finished the month with the exact same statistics. The pair tied for the NFL lead with 414 receiving yards in December, and both did so on 22 catches. Each player caught three touchdowns, which tied for fifth in the NFL during that span.

“It’s cool — two guys from Tech with the same numbers,” Thomas said. “It was just funny. I’m actually going to call him about it today and talk to him.”

The two have remained in touch since their days as teammates ended, and crossed paths earlier this season when the Lions visited Sports Authority Field at Mile High in October.

Thomas, who says that Johnson was one of the main reasons he decided to attend Georgia Tech, watches film of Johnson’s play throughout the season to try to pick up on things that the Lions receiver does well.

“When I started playing football, I went to Tech to do the things he did,” Thomas said. “We’re both big, fast receivers.”

Johnson has set a good standard for Thomas to strive for — the fifth-year receiver ranks second in the NFL with 1,437 receiving yards this season and is tied for the league lead with 15 touchdown catches on the year.

Thomas battled back from injuries early in the year to post a breakthrough December that saw him record his first two career 100-yard games. Johnson and the Lions clinched a playoff berth last weekend against San Diego — Thomas and the Broncos would like to continue that mirrored success this Sunday versus Kansas City.

BTW- I did attempt to take down the Christmas tree on the day after Christmas. I got informed by wife and kids that such was not permitted. Trees and lights go up on Black Friday and they stay up until the 2nd of January as a minimum!!! LOL

Some opinions are facts to some and not to others, that’s the whole point, and no one here owes you or anyone else the so called facts you so often request and feel entitled to, lighting up indeed would be nice.

    Official prediction

    Denver 14 – 17 Kansas

I hated typing the above but the facts are we are slumping. I asked Bay at start of year did he think it was possible we could go form 4-12 to playoffs. He said it is possible but generally you need depth in your roster. He said injuries will catch up with an average team. THats what has happened to us.

We have stunk last 3 mtches not just Bills and Pats. Bears also. No depth at secondary killing us. McGahee is like walking wounded (love the effort he has put in). Miller due to injury or long season not firing 100%.
If I was fox even if we win we will not beat steelers or ravens. Maybe you rest dawkins and mcgahee and hope the dice rolls your way. Then you have a better chance in playoffs.

Bay, my apologies for missing ‘The whole point’… I thought facts were supported by evidence, and Oppinions were spoken as speculative beliefs…

My Speculative belief is that we need a Freakin TE… ASAP!

Show of hands, how many here would try to make it to Sports Authority Field for the Playoff game should we win?

And, I’ve been pondering what Orton’s bigger motivation will be Sunday… Winning obviously is his goal, but you know he wants to showcase his talents…

There should be lots of fun subplots Sunday, and I am getting really excited for the Game…

  11. Bronco_Turtle says:

Orton’s mind is clearly all on Football this week as well…

  15. daddybronc says:

Just once I’d like Fox/McCoy to come out and state that the Bronco losses represent coaching failures. I have heard them admit, they (the coaches) have got to get better. But, never…you know – we put together a game plan that failed to meet the needs this week. We got out-coached. The coaching staff needs to step up and do a better job.

I don’t say this because it is all on the coaching. But rather because it is good leadership.

In coaching high school. We had far less control over personnel on the team, we still as coaches took responsibility for the losses.

This is a business principle, and it works in churches and ministries.

It may be that Coach Fox takes full responsibility for losses when he is with the team (oh, and it is critical that the players get the credit for the wins and successes), but…from the outside looking in…when Orton or Cosby walk the plank…it sure looks like an atmosphere of fault-finding and blame.

This post again fits under the file name of Locker Room Chemistry.

I love the chainsaw too. I just wish I didn’t end up cripple for 3 days after a good chainsaw workout.

  17. shaztah says:

I cant wait for the game. I am scared as crap to watch it and hope my heart holds out….

  18. shaztah says:

Bay, I have never watched RGIII play but I did hear about his intellegence and what he says about it. He has a plan for the future and I think that is a great thing. I look at someone like Sanchez who came into the NFL after his freshman year in college and i see a kid who is not doing well in football (this year) and who is not disciplined enough to push himself. In many ways he is too immature. What does he do if he has a career ending injury or just bombs out? He has no degree and no education. Just saying I think RGIII’s head is in the right place.

  19. sndvl says:

Bronco_Turtle, this is me raising my hand. Although, in order to make the 1000 mile trip to see a playoff game in Mile-High, there is a small matter that needs to be taken care of on Sunday afternoon. So. First things first. Beat KC. And our recipe to do that, falls directly on our defensive front 7.
4 of which are 1st round picks, 2 are 4th round steals and a MLB who hits like a truck!

    GO BRONCOS!!!!!!!!

  20. shaztah says:

I am a fan of Tebow and I will be until the day he retires or decides that he has had enough of the ridicule. That does not mean I can not have a favorite QB and a favorite team right? I also like Aaron Rodgers a lot and watch him play every game. My husband says I always go for the underdog and I guess I do. When Rodgers first played he was haunted by Favre comparisons so I guess he was the underdog. LOL

  21. shaztah says:

I would love to go to the game but the only way I could is if the Tebow foundation would answer my request for my husband (who has cerebal palsy) to meet Tim. I guess he just reserves his time for kids and not adults.

  22. brian_schneider says:

We need to be ready on defense while they will definitely run the ball, I’m sure Orton has got an itchy trigger finger.

  23. daddybronc says:

    Shaz –

Tebow is young and he has set up a good system through his brothers to manage his time and money.

I am wanting him to speak for us at a banquet and have been refused twice. I’d bet Tebow knows nothing about it. He has systems and people in place to manage all of us who desire to have our little piece of him.

My recommendation – keep trying and never give up. It is not personal. And Tebow does like to make himself available to ‘real’ people.

  24. collies10 says:

daddybronc exactly he will be distant from alot of decisions. He only has 24 hours a day not enough for what he does. Shatzah he will do whatever he can.

  25. shaztah says:

I know and I am hopeful. My hubby lived in Gainesville and got to see him play a few times there but never got to meet him. I watch him (my hubby) struggle every day with simple things and I just wanted to try to do something for him. During the training camp his foundation did send me an email and said that he was placed on the list to receive a call from him but I guess he got too busy or there was just too many. I know that there are millions of people who want a piece of his time and who knows maybe one day when we move to Gainesville we will get luck and see him.

  26. shaztah says:

I might need to make some coffee just in case BFE is celebrating tonight. He is always entertaining but I usually can’t keep up with him.

  27. baylinorcrush says:

Shaztah, hopefully all your wishes will come through for you and your husband. As far as BFE is concerned he did it all here last night seriously doubt he does it all over again tonight, he is not a young pup anymore, needs recovery time, LOL.

  28. shaztah says:

LOL Bay. I saw his stuff from last night but maybe he will be on. Did you get all the lights down? I still have the tree up and will take it down this weekend.

  29. baylinorcrush says:

Yeah, I got everything down, inside and out, main reason being our 22 months granddaughter lives with us now and I wanted her to realize that Christmas is a pecial time signifying the birth of Jesus and when that time passes it’s over, no need to have her any more spoiled than she already is, LOL.

  30. OrangeTsunami says:

    Two things:

    1) I’m shocked that NO one has mentioned Optimus Prime when referring to DThomas.. Man, get it right! Lol

    2) I’m white, but saying that all black people come from Africa is like saying all white people come from England.. Lol

  31. baylinorcrush says:

Actually TRB is a Nigeria native, so he does come from Africa.

  32. OrangeTsunami says:

Right, but I’m referring to someone saying that all black people are African-American, we don’t refer to white people as being European-American.. :)

  33. baylinorcrush says:

I now it’s not politically correct but I call them black and none of the ones I know have a problem with it, I think it’s more of a white person problem.
