Woodyard Encouraged Fellow Wildcat in Oakland

December 13th, 2012 - 1:58pm by Tyler Everett

Though an ankle injury prevented linebacker Wesley Woodyard from travelling to Oakland, it didn’t stop him from supporting his teammates, particularly rookie linebacker Danny Trevathan.

With the Broncos in Oakland while he remained in Denver, Woodyard texted his support to Trevathan, whose role at weakside linebacker increased. Woodyard’s encouragement was not lost on Trevathan, who played 34 snaps at linebacker.

“I just remember seeing some stuff to motivate me, because he wasn’t able to play,” Trevathan said. “It kind of gave me a little boost during the game. I’m sure he knows that.”

“I just tried to go out there and perform my best and try to play like he would, or even try to do a little bit better,” Trevathan added. “The standards are set high here, and I think with him going out there playing like that, it’s only going to make us want to play better.”

Trevathan turned in a solid effort in his most extensive action of the season, recording four tackles as the Broncos held the Raiders to just 13 points. Trevathan’s performance followed a simple but helpful message he received from Woodyard prior to kickoff.

“He just told me, ‘It’s time to shine, while you’re out there, go get yours,’” Trevathan said. “Go out there, go 110 percent. Know what you’re doing and be sure, just play fast and physical.”

Looking back on his performance, Trevathan said he was pleased with his play. But at the same time, he has already seen room for improvement.

“I think it went pretty smooth,” Trevathan said. “Some errors, I kind of picked up after the game, but I wish I would have known a little bit during the game. But I’m learning, and I’m going.”

While Trevathan noticed mistakes he plans to correct going forward, his play earned the praise of Woodyard, who wasted no time attempting to let his fellow Kentucky Wildcat know that he approved of his effort.

“He did some really nice things out there,” Woodyard said. “He came up and was beasting. I texted him during the game. I sent about six text messages to him during the game—obviously he couldn’t check them but after the game he let me know that he received them. It was good just seeing him go out there, fly around and make plays. That’s what he did in college.”

Lets see Ravens own Broncos in Baltimore. Manning owns Ravens. Ravens lose 3 straight (2 at Home)? I think Ravens will win
    BUT, i can’t pick against the Broncos so 23 – 20 BRONCOS

Past record against the Broncos has no bearing on the future. Just as Mannings past record has no bearing.

This Ravens team is not the one from the past. This team has a ton of injuries and a terrible defense.

The Ravens defense is hurting massively at the LB spot. The middle of that defense is ripe for the picking. Enter, Stokely, Tamme and Dreesen. BTW, DMT and Decker can both run some good crossing routes too. Plus without LBs, it’s tough to plug holes in the run game…oops there goes Moreno for a gain.

9-4 means very little here. This Ravens team is highly overrated.

The standards are high here in Bronco Country and we love us some Denver Bronco football!!!!!!!!!!

    Go get it Trevathan!!!!!

Love our teams attitude and not looking past the game in front of them….so i will.

We will need the A game to beat the Patriots after watching the MNF slaughter. Billy and the boys mean business. I was watching the offensive line for NE and somebody is going to have to put some pressure on Brady or he will kill you.

    WolfeVonDoom to the rescue.
