Who is Wearing What?

April 6th, 2010 - 4:33pm by Kyle Sonneman

With the roster additions this offseason, many have asked who will be wearing what jersey number.

Well here it is, the most updated list from the Broncos equipment staff. The only player from last season to change his number thus far is Alphonso Smith. Smith switched his 33 to 22, with Nate Jones taking the vacated 33. Here are the rest of the new numbers. Some numbers are still being decided upon and once they are set, we will fill you in.

Brady Quinn – 9
Alphonso Smith – 22
Nate Jones – 33
Baraka Atkins – 58
Dustin Fry – 62
Jarvis Green – 93

I guess my point was get used to Orton at the helm for a while…

  2. baylinorcrush says:

broncofanlvnm, about the Elway thing, the only reason I brought it up was to outline the critical aspect of us needing a strong running game to succeed is all.

  3. vabroncoguy says:

Well I for one never liked Orton, I think he was a downgrade at the QB position and a foolish one at that. I don’t bash him for no reason, I actually just learned to accept the fact that he was what we would have to deal with weekly. When we were 6-0, I said (you can look it up) it was despite Orton not because of him. That guy NEVER made a play. I watched 16 Bronco games and that guy did not make 16 plays. Those of you who know the game, know that “making a play” is what seperates bad from good and good from great. I will say this. Nothing is guaranteed in the NFL. You must win NOW. If you think you have a guy who is not the answer, then why do you keep him. Especially at the QB position. This team is one with no face of the franchise. McD has done an excellent job of instilling “his” plan, which isn’t his but Bill’s, but keeps forgetting that Bill siad that there were no players bigger than the team, bit he always kept great players. Dunno guys, I am not expecting much this year, only because I know that whatever we expect, this team will do the opposite

  4. whitebronco#1 says:

hey bay, who would you pick with #11 in the draft? Straight question, lol.

  5. brian_schneider says:

No QB will every be successful in Denver because whoever comes in and plays QB, it still insn’t John Elway.

  6. baylinorcrush says:

Dan Williams is my first choice, I would be ok with McClain and I would also be ok with Pouncey but we would have to drop down a half dozen spots to get an extra third, staight answer, LOL.

  7. florio's_mom says:

Why would phonzy change his number???

  8. florio's_mom says:

I don’t like players that change their numbers…… just ticks me off for some reason.

Doesn’t help Phonzy’s case. I already didn’t care for him and his arrogant attitude and his poor tackling skills.

Keep it coming phonzy. I’m loving every second of this. :D

  9. BeastFromEast92 says:

Phonzy is not used to playing nickel corner,I think he will be a good corner when it’s his time to play x y corner,he was awesome in college.I don’t know if McD drafted him to play nickel or to learn from Champ, but he sure did use a high draft pick to get him.I wished we had kept Jack Williams,we lost a lot of speed when we cut him,but I think Nate Jones will fit in nicely, and he can get the job done,I just hope McBath and Bruton get more playing time this year,I heard that McBath was gunning for Hill’s starting spot, hope he gets it.

I`ve got a feeling that we`ll draft McClain. I`ll be happy with that. I`m hoping on Gerhart in the 2nd round. We must get a power back.

  12. BeastFromEast92 says:

WalterFootball.com has Jimmy Clausen falling outta the top 10,they say Arizona at #26,because if Buffalo don’t take him at #10 nobody else needs a QB until Arizona picks. If he is still there at #11,I know we have other needs, but I don’t see how we could pass up a franchise QB,especially one that is used to playing in a pro style offense.IMO

  13. footballMANIAC says:

BFE, I think Brady Quinn is just as good an option as Clausen. They are similar QBs, played in a similar offense in college. Brady Quinn just has a smaller ego. I think it would be very unwise to waste a draft pick on an unknown QB at 11 with our other needs, especially when you have an intriguing option such as Quinn. I myself strongly suspect that we’ll pick McClain if he falls to us, Williams if McClain isn’t available. Or trade down if McClain isn’t available.

  14. strandoftds says:

If we drafted Claussen that would be the surprise of the 1st round. That could be a monkey wrench in tha makings. I don`t know what to make of it just yet. Interesting. Two Notre Dame QB`s.

  15. BeastFromEast92 says:

    Just a thought.

  16. BeastFromEast92 says:

Orton said we need more pass plays of 20-30 yards.Last year on passes of 30 yds or more he was 4/22-18%,in his career he is 7/48-14.5%,pretty pathetic.

  17. Orange_Crusher says:

    BFE,

Are those #s true? Orton only made 7 total 30 yard passes in his entire career so far???? That includes the immaculate deflection?

Is that 30 yards in the air or does yards after catch count?

  18. roya1fantasy says:

VABroncoGuy. How can you say Orton Was a downgrade, Did you see how many games Cutler Lost for us (throwing interceptions in the endzone all the time) last season the only person who threw more interceptions than Cutler was a Rookie named Sanchez…..Orton went the first 6 games with 0 int’s. Regardless of the fact that none of our recievers were helping him out. no one was getting open. Marshall pretty much had to Make things happen. Orton is not a bad QB. He might not be able to throw the ball 60 yds down the field but he also won’t throw 5 or 6 ints in One Game. and definitely not over 20 in a season.

  19. TheRoyalBeast says:

If Jimmy Claussen Drops to us. I have a feeling we are gonna be stock piled at QB, cuz I think McD would take him. I dont like the idea ut wont put it past McD.

I like McClain both size and sub 4.7 speed. But if we were going for a cover ILB that can run from side line to sideline I suggest Jamar Chaney in the 3rd round. Look at some youtube video on him. Excells in Pass coverage and does good in run game. 6’1 242lbs 4.4 speed. Thats impressive. And if our DL does their Job we wont need a big guy like McClain, altho I do love that his football IQ is off the Charts. But if Larsen gets a chance ( He will be good agaisnt the run) and Haggan is moving Inside, Then we dont really need a 1st round ILB all we need is depth and a great cover ILB like Jamar Chaney but like I said, I am still all for McClain. But my suggestion is

1 – Dan Williams (Gives depth and a future. Assures our line will do what needs to be done even when Jamaal Williams is on the bench)

2 – Pouncey/Tennant (depending on who is available)

3 – Jamar Chaney ( Depth, future, Cover LB, good agaisnt the run. potential)

4 – Akwasi Owusu Ansah (KR, PR, Ball Hawk, CB specimen at 6’1 207 with 4.3 speed)

the rest is a toss up. This is my approach with the picks we have now assumming we dont trade down. This would be my approach in my opinion but I dont care who they get as long as it makes sense….

Ps: seriously, look at video on Jamar Chaney. Might like it. Tired of getting torched by Gates and other TE’s

  20. TheRoyalBeast says:

    OC

I think he means passes that gained 20 – 30 yards. I dont think he included anything more than 30 yards. At least thats what I got from the stats but please clarify BFE. Cuz if those numbers are true that is unbeleivably sad….

  21. BeastFromEast92 says:

Gimme a few and I will try to remember where I read it at and get back to you.

I guess the guy is correct, sorry if he isn’t.

  23. Cdudbronc24 says:

If Clausen falls to us we will probably trade the pick to either Minnesota or Arizona. I find it highly unlikely he will fall to us. Buffalo will snatch him if he falls.

Jamar Chaney, with the sideline to sideline speed he has, he might be more of a reality than we think. Sure tackle and good in coverage, Altho Highlights can be deceiving, he is projected in the 3rd round, we have more pressing needs as many say, so I would be all for this….

    BFE

The way he shows the stats looks well done and that he got it from an outside source so I am inclined to believe, If that is so that is kinda scary. On another note, I was shocked cutler wasnt on the list….But those stats look real about orton and that is sad, 2 of those in the last 2 years came on those two deep passes to Marshall against the Redskins…

  26. Cdudbronc24 says:

Royalbeast, I wouldn’t expect Larsen to get much time at ILB. Hillis is gone, so he will probably get more special teams time and more time playing FB.

  27. TheRoyalBeast says:

    Cdud

Good call, if he falls to us, we might be able to get the trade down many fans want by trading him to the Cardinals or the Vikings for their late 1st and maybe a 3rd or 4th round pick. That way we can get Pouncey with a late first roudner, where he should be gotten. Assuming the Cardinals and vikings don’t just rather wait till he gets to them….

  28. TheRoyalBeast says:

Yea I know Cdud, but their is a very large fan for Larnsen at ILB. m not a fan of the idea but the man can hit. he might be good on Running downs, not neccesarily play ILB but situational downs….But yea I see him as a special teamer, but I think we should get a FB with our 7th pick or something…

  29. TheRoyalBeast says:

sorry for the double post to BFE, but my first one with all the links was under moderation and I didn’t know how long those usually take. It was relatively short this time.

  30. BeastFromEast92 says:

TRB OC The 4/22-18% was for the last 2 seasons,7/48-14.5 was for career.

  31. Cdudbronc24 says:

BFE, I think those stats might be wrong. he had more then 4 passes of over 30 yards last year.

    That’s 7 catches of over 30 yards

  32. texark-fan says:

KO was #14 that makes him in the top half of that list, right? I don’t think his list jives with anything.

  33. broncos20 says:

    NICE draft board TRB!!!
awesome vids on Chaney, first time i’ve seen film on him..fast..but looks small…can always bulk up…

add CHarles Scott to that list and it’ll be an AWESOME draft..

    Scott vid:
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ROrIY31e7yE

ignore the music..lol..he is a beast!!

  34. TheRoyalBeast says:

    Bronco20

funny you mention charles scott, if you look at my previous boards Charles Scott is always there, I am a fan of his potential and have been pushing for him. I think he is what we need as a situational pounder and the round we will get him in will be a steal…great game speed too for his big frame, he is explosive….

  35. TheRoyalBeast says:

    lol Broncos20

thats the same video i use when i am trying to promote song…dont mind the music either lol. but yea he is a beast and he moves really fast for his size. 0:45 – 1:05 shows how this man will not go down. Maybe college players are just slow or something but he looks really fast. I usually have us taking him in the 4th round but I also want Akwasi Ansah, you should see video on him too, he is impressive. But like I always say dont care who we get as long as we need em and it makes sense….But yea my list with Charles scott in there would be the ideal way to go IMO

  36. Cdudbronc24 says:

sorry my comment took so long. If you scroll up to 3:36, you’ll see the stats are wrong, he had 7 deep passes over 30 yards last year alone.

  37. broncos20 says:

oh TRB,,,sorri didnt see you previously mentioning Scott…he is powerful.
and Chaney looks like Patrick Willis, same size and same speed..
    i looked up Ansah, this kid is hard to pass up..such size and speed {big plus on returns and ballhawk skills}

  38. BeastFromEast92 says:

Whadda you guys think of Mardy Gilyard WR/KR for a 3rd or 4th rounder???

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lwkfF54rAEk

  39. BeastFromEast92 says:

    Not in the air.

  40. bronco-blaze says:

So i take it everyone believes no one can change? How bout work on mechanics..? Orton is a great qb, but cant throw the long ball blah blah. His arms too weak blah blah…SO what happens if he buffed up this off season> what if he continues to work on his arm strength? Then what?

  41. BeastFromEast92 says:

I like the story on McBath and Bruton,we had a great secondary last year, and with the revamped, and hopefully much improved Dline,we will be even better next season,I look forward to seeing what I think WILL be a terrific Defense. We should be a lot better against the run,our LB’s should have more room to roam and make plays, and our secondary which was 3rd in the league I think, shouldn’t have to cover as long, hopefully with a better pass rush from Green,Bannon,Williams,Ayers, and of course Doom.I think we are primed to have one of the best Defenses in the NFL next season, and hopefully by the time the draft is over we have the pieces in place to get the Offense juiced up.GO BRONCS 2010!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  42. BeastFromEast92 says:

bb then Orton becomes a lot better QB,and our whole Offense will profit.IMO

  43. BeastFromEast92 says:

Champ has been thrown at 291 times since 2006 and been called for pass interference only once, that solidifies him as one of the elite CB’s in the NFL.

  44. BeastFromEast92 says:

For those who like Dan Williams at #11

    http://www.nationalfootballpost.com/Source-Williams-working-out-for-Broncos-today.html&team=137

He is working out for the Broncos today.

  45. 4broncosjeff says:

We have two young QB’s on the team now, why would we take Clausen? I dont think that will happen, unless the sky is falling. lol Orton is the only proven QB we have, and with the age on this team we need to win ASAP. Like it or not he’s your QB. Tom is not ready or McD would not have gotten Brady. Brady needs to learn the system and prove he is ready. Brady needs the extra time to re-coop from being beat on in cleveland. We cant just give Brady the job, Thats just setting him up to fail. Let him learn the system, so he can be confident in his job.
Gilyard would be nice to have when Marshall is gone, he has good speed and just gets open. Big play maker for UC, the last few years. Broncos need more BEEF!

    Go Broncos

  46. BeastFromEast92 says:

Jamal Williams acts like he is refreshed and ready to go,hope he plays like he did in years past,we need a big nasty NT.I still think we take Dan Williams NT with #11 pick, gives us great rotation,(Williams learns from Williams)LOL,and a NT for years to come.

  47. Orange_Crusher says:

    BFE,

I think Jamal Williams and Ronnie Fields will rotate nose just fine next year.

I would love to see the Broncos trade down and go with the best center and guards in the first two rounds… as 4bjeff says, “BEEF”.

We have D-Beef, now we need to get us some O-Beef….

We need some O-Bison to protect the Mighty Quinn next year…

There’s no doubt that some Big Blue Oxen up front will drastically improve the run game…

  48. TheRoyalBeast says:

    Cdud,

You are correct if the are including yard after catch, I think they are talking about throwing over 30 yards.

    BB

Arm strenght really has nothing to do with buffing up, at least thats what I have always believed. Its either you got it or you don’t accuracy on the other hand can be improved. And like I said, if Orton turns into Manning over night, I could care less, put in the best man for the job but the chances that Orton Just starts to blow our socks off is very unlikely. Minus the fact that he lacks the Arm, he doesnt know how to improvise, isn’t mobile enough, and just isnt the guy you look too when all chips are down and you need a hero/QB. But if he becomes that guy (highly unlikely, Go for it)

    Broncos20

Glad you like the list and we are on the same page with what we believe we need. If only the coaches could get there as well. Glad you like Ansah as well, Doesn’t get respect cuz of the division he played in and the competition he went up again but I believe he is a diamond in the ruff.

    BFE

Glad to see the Dan Williams thing hope we get him (as you can see in my new draft list)…wouldnt be mad if we got McClain, but once the DL is solid and can eat up blockers then our LBs can do what they do best. And with a ILB like Chaney with sideline to sideline speed and Coverage skills in the 3rd round, we will be just fine. But Im also cool with taking 2 OL like OC suggested. As long as its positions we need. 1 more thing, all this is irrelevant without THE BEAST :-) lol

  49. BeastFromEast92 says:

OC if Fields rotates good, and plays better against the run than he did last year,I’ll be satisfied.Agreed we need beef up front,Pouncey would make sense if we trade down 6-7 spots and pick up another 3rd or 4th pick.I don’t know McD’s mind,so I don’t know how Olsen and Frye figure in on the Oline.

  50. BeastFromEast92 says:

TRB agreed, without the BEAST next season just won’t be the same.IMO
