With the roster additions this offseason, many have asked who will be wearing what jersey number.
Well here it is, the most updated list from the Broncos equipment staff. The only player from last season to change his number thus far is Alphonso Smith. Smith switched his 33 to 22, with Nate Jones taking the vacated 33. Here are the rest of the new numbers. Some numbers are still being decided upon and once they are set, we will fill you in.
Brady Quinn – 9
Alphonso Smith – 22
Nate Jones – 33
Baraka Atkins – 58
Dustin Fry – 62
Jarvis Green – 93

everyone cares about money. what can i say? I was only wondering where he said something like that.
Orton WILL be gone after his year or I will be very surprised. He’ll have to make his millions elsewhere, too bad the Redskins got McNabb, they like paying HUGE contracts to mediocre players.
texark understood. TRB i love madden too but why not just trade him if he is costing you games or improve your skills. lol
I agree he is not the future but i am not sure if he is gone as soon as next year. I would keep him as a backup
I just can’t wait till the qustions are answered and we are talking about Sunday game results!
marshisboss…
Orton will require a huge contract to keep next year as he will be an UFA. The team is only willing to give him his one year tender to play for this season. They are not interested in his long term services. Thats why I say if the Broncos really wanted to keep him they would give him the contract now while they have leverage on him.
The writing is on the wall for Quinn to be the starting QB beginning around the 5th game of the season.
Orton is a class act and is doing the best with what he’s has to offer. Totally uncalled for the bash this man but I guess we shouldn’t expect any less from some of you. Go ahead and bash him…hope it boosted your self esteem. If you think McDaniels is listening or reading your whining about his ability, you’re wrong. Yeah, drunkenbronc, we could’ve been 7-9 last year, but luck was on Orton’s side that day, whether you care to admit it or not…. “Look at the glass as half full instead of half empty”. It’ll do wonders for you….lol
i don’t know OC what you say for KO, will it fit into all RFA? Doom is in the same boat.
I hear ya DB!!! I can’t wait for game days either!!!! I hope we rack up the “W’s” this year.
The draft shoud be really exciting also.
ILMSDB!!!!
Orton just delivers, quinn has the same arm strength but no accuracy even in the short game so what makes you think he would play any better, honestly i just think some of you guys bash that poor man because of his neck beard and weird face lol. Point blank holmgren traded him for a low round draft pick and Hillis who didnt play much at all last year for a reason and that is because of his inaccuracy and footwork, also his ankle injury so what makes u think quinn is better? Personaly i see Orton being the starter till bradstrater’s third year, then possibly if mcd sees something in him he will start him but who knows i could be wrong and orton goes down and brady quinn will step in and take us to the next level or he could just end up putting us behind the raiders and making us the laughing stock of the afc west. I’d rather have poor neck beard and his whippy arm than jamarcus russel big arm no heart and alot of weight.
way to go royalbroncofan, buzz kill much? lol, just messing with u
It cant be called bashign if its fact. We all knwo he is a grat guy, works hard, and gives us his best. But its also fact that His best isnt enough. orton is the kind of character you want in a QB. The only thing he is missing is the physical attribute and that little hint of cockiness all athletes have that make them awesome (notice i said LITTLE BIT of cockiness)
Quinn wont start this year not unless he is jsut like WOW. McD wont pay the 5 mil. Thats what Cleveland was doing to avoid having to pay him mucho dinero and as a result Quinn never had a chance to really start and get experience. Thats what he needs. Heck I say he plays the Majority of Preseason games so we can see where he is at. Him and Brandstater, Orton can play just the first Quarter, after all we already know what he has to offer. What i want to see is what Quinn and Brandstater have to offer against the the STARTERS in preseason.
Hello
I hate when the blog chooses to post some thigns and not others…the hello was jsut to see if my account was still working cuz i just tried to past something multiple times and it wont show…
texark-fan,
Tis true, the Doominator is in the same boat. I dont know what will happen with him? I’m thinking that since he hasn’t been signed to an offer sheet that he will also have to sign his tender and play this year out. Next season the FA market will determine his value and I’m hoping the Broncos will match any offer.. idk?
b4life well said. Like I said he may not be the future but we are alot better with him than alot of other Qb’s maybe we should trade him for Alex Smith or David Carr or if the arm is what everybody wants Jamarcus Russel
b4life, i think u r wrong about quinn’s arm strength being the same as orton’s and i think quinn is a better qb because he is way more mobile than orton and has way more arm strength too
Now my question is…i thought if u were under contract you couldnt train with the team and staff…how come orton can even tho he hasnt signed his tender?
OC we will find out soon. if memory serves me well the Tenders have to be singed the 15th. do you think that Pat is holding on the the money for now just to prove the point ‘that he is the owner’? maybe he wants them to sing the tenders first and then show up to camp and then he will give them a REAL contract. this is my wish. this puts every one in there places, I am the OWNER, you are the EMPLOYEE. But there is so much relieing on the NEW contract. what do I do about income for 2011? this needs to be by both the owner and the players. Just wondering what the coaches will get paid in 2011!
LOOKING FOR THE RIGHT MAN FOR THE DENVER BRONCOS!
In the NFL the base Defense has turned into some form of the Nickel package. The rules changing every year to help passing you can see how important it is to be able to not only defend the 3WR set but attack it.
We need a fast MAN Corner Back! The main reason I believe we lost 8 of the last 10 was because Jack Williams got hurt. J Williams was a quick 4.3 CB and after the first San Diego Chargers game (youtube link below) Coach Turner said in his post press conference “They played allot more man than we expected!”
TURNER POST PRESS CONFERENCE
http://www.nfl.com/videos/denver-broncos/09000d5d81391ec5/Turner-on-protection-breakdown
Jack Williams got hurt and in comes Tye Law in the Steelers game. Now anyone who knows anything about football, can tell you that Tye Law is not running a 4.3 at this stage of his career and he cannot cover MAN without help from a Safety. Also we played Andre Davis in running situations and Wesley Woodyard in passing situations. If a team knows you are going to be in a zone they will pick you apart. Football is a simple game, as it has been mentioned in almost every press conference…”Whoever tackles the best, blocks the best…will win the game.” It is a simple game but if you don’t DISGUISE what you are going to do on Offense and Defense you are dead.
Nobody has CB as a need but Alphonso is not a nickel CB he is an X or Y CB and I do believe he will have a successful future. Nate Jones will be great for zone and blitzing but we need a quick and fast Nickel CB the can play MAN without help for 6 seconds to allow our pass rush to get to the QB. This is a deep Draft at CB and I hope for all of us we address this NEED in one of the higher rounds!
SIDE NOTE: Taylor Mays is the fastest defensive player in the Draft. He ran an unofficial 4.24 40 which is impressive at 6′3 230lbs. Mays would be ideal to line up against Gates, Clark and the new breed of NFL Tightend’s.
Orton will be the QB this year. Next will be a three way fight. This year we all need to be team people and hang with Orton, he is above average and a good leader. He will be better if B-Marsh is here, even if he leaves will still have plenty of good recievers. The only reason Royal had such a off year, is because Mc D was feeding the beast to try and keep him happy. (that is impossible) Keep him or let him go, who cares. I prefer to ship him, just get something out of him.
As for the draft, I have one word. BEEF !!!!
Go BRONCOS
even if he leaves we (Oooops)
Cant blame feeding the beast for Royals drop, Beast was just always open. And lets not forget Beast wasnt starting the first 4 games, and royal aint do much either. Stokely and Gaf did more than him in those first couple of weeks when Marshall wasnt starting. Heck, when Marshall wasnt starting he did more than Royal. Dunno what the cause of the drop off was, can’t be the playbook cuz others caught except royal. Maybe cuz of too much return duty and injuries but who knows. He was so amazing the year before. I was convinced we had the best tandem WR set.
All I know is if the Beast leaves and Royal and Mkinnley don’t step up,it won’t matter who plays QB I think we will all agree,we will suffer.Stokely is a good WR but not what he once was,Gaffney can be the #2 WR,but if Marshall leaves Royal will have to be #1.IMO
adm good point I think Nate Jones will do a lot better than Law,and better than Barnett.
Hopefully the other team won’t have much time to throw, with a better Dline, our Backers will be able to wreak HAVOK on the opposing QB.
marshall to the redskins for haynesworth and a second?
Redskins don’t have a 2nd,they traded it to Philly for McNabb, and Haynesworth is a 4-3 guy and we can’t afford him he will get 21 mil this year, that’s why Shanny wants rid of him.
Exactly, no way we inherit that ridiculous haynesworth contract, and after he got the contract he hasnt been the same. Ill pass, and yes they dont have a 2nd. We need a good pick this year, and 2nd round wont cut it and neither will a first round next year for Marshall. This can be solved by paying Marshall his worth here in Denver instead of trying to get him to sign his tender and produce another pro bowl season for chump change…Its just not logical…And its not a character or isolated Marshall thing because Doom aint getting one either (yet)…Pay your deserving players, happy players are productive players. They can only suck it up for soo long.
Anywho, MARSHISBOSS, About the Orton and Madden thing…He sure isnt my QB in my Franchise but when I play online on madden or against friends I have to use that bum. And they didnt update the roster to ad Quinn
lol
That’s what I don’t understand,(management) goes out and brings in FA’s(great job in doing that) and signs them to multimillion $$ contracts but can’t structure a contract for Doom and Kuper.Of course Kuper signs his tender the poor guy will get like 2 mil,he only made like 500 thou last year, sure to us that’s a lot of doe,but Kuper should’ve been making at least that much anyway.I don’t understand bringing in players signing them to 3 and 4 year contracts all the while you got great players producing big time and make them play the wait-and-see game.If you want respect from players AND fans treat the players right…Just one man’s opinion that don’t mean a helluva lot…GO BRONCS 2010!!!!!!!!!!!
Humm. We have Orton and BQ so that will play out to who ever McD thinks gives us at the best chance to win. My guess is Orton starts. Great posts everyone!! I see some posters returning from last year. Anyway I still will go with Pouncey and Spikes in that order. Or Williams and Spikes. Or we could package all our picks and get the whole Gator draft class. Ha I am also with OC and DB in its time for questions to be put to bed and let’s play some Bronco Football.
FTR
in the end all, it all comes down to production..i’d be willing to pay the players who produce constantly..Clady top of my list(when his time comes) , Marshall (always productive w/ any mediocre QB; put him with Manning and they will be unstoppable), Doom (sack master) he’ll be double teamed this year so I see Ayers going crazy nxt season…
broncos20 I can see Ayers dominating next year,by the way he’ll be making 5 mil,if our Dline plays as good as expected all our LB’s should have a great chance to shine, can’t wait to see what our D will be like, hope we dominate.the Jack LB whether it be Haggan,Larsen,or McClain should do well also.
And Clady should be at the top of the list,he’s a freaking BEAST.If Harris stays healthy and we fill the Center/Guard spot and get the running game going,no matter who plays QB(it’ll be Orton)with a good D we should be able to compete with anybody.IMO
agreed BFE92, Clady and Harris make one of the best young Tackle tandems in the league right now…
might not be the best topic for conversation here at the broncos site but i believe peyton manning knew what he was talking about a lot of years ago when he told the colts if you dont pick me then ill kick ur butt for the next 15 years. That is what i think is going on with the Rams and Sam Bradford
Pay Marshall, Pay Doom, Orton is our starter, he just needs to learn to get it in the freaking endzone! He is a smart player but a little to conservative. this year he’ll be better. Draft Kyle Wilson!!!!!!
In my opinion Marshall has earned all the money and we need to show it to him. If I was him I’d be pissed too. Top three easy in the league in my opinion. How many games would we have won last year without Marshall? I cant believe we would even consider letting him go. Talk about off the field issues, look at Rothlesburger, and Ray Lewis, (I know rays was a long time ago) but look at what he was involved in.Do you think the Ravens or Steelers are going to let those guys go.
This game is about team. Any part of a professional sports team can tear it down or make that team conpetitive. It’s about time the business side of the Broncos joined the team and paid the players who get the job done. They are creating discontent and distraction. They are creating bad behavior and keeping this team from reaching is potential. Get it together on the business end of the Broncos . The stands are full and have been for a long time. The Broncos are one of the most popular and successful teams in the NFL. If any part of the Bronco organization is guilty of bad behavior, it’s the business side of the Broncos! Pay the guys that get it done. Doom! Marshall! They’ve earned it! Go Broncos!
Sounds like everyone is doggin’ on Orton. No one was bustin’ his chops when we were 6-0. Then we start going downhill and everyone jumps on Orton can’t do this and can’t do that. Well there are only a handful of QBs that have played the game that can win a game without any help from the running game. That’s why beefing up our o-line will be huge help for the offense. The running game will hopefully open up more and therefore will allow Orton to be more effective, maybe McD will open the playbook a littler further. I’m not saying Orton is going to take us where we want to go, we all of sudden trade for Quinn and now everyone hates Orton. I know Orton has a lot of work to do especially with mobility and accuracy but having a full healthy o-line will give him more time to go through his reads. Mabye Quinn or Brandstater is the answer long term, who knows. I for one and I’m just one guy, think that until Orton proves he hasn’t improved from last season or just isn’t getting the job done that he deserves to be the starter. Orton’s biggest problem is he needs to not just play according to what McD calls, if he sees a guy open downfield but the play calls for something else then just throw it downfield. He needs to play to win not just play to keep his starting job.
Hello Broncos! I’ve been reading, just sitting back and watching the talk! I like Orton a lot! I think he is smart and a very accurate QB. I also think he is a little too carful with the ball, but when he was the most careful with the ball we went 6-0 at the begginning of last season. Then as we all begged and pleaded for him to throw down field and open up for the big pass his accuracy diminished and game depleated. Their is a lot of factors going into our downfall last season. Just like it takes many elements to build a great team; it takes many elements to destroy a great start as well. Orton’s play is 1, diminished run defense at the end of the year is 2, issues in short yardage gains is 3, Team cohesivness is 4, and I am sure many of you can think of many other things that hurt us last year in the second half of the season.
Now in Business Competition breeds INTEREST from consumer perspective, and SUCCESS in business relations! So what Josh does in brining in players that can compete in every phase of the game is great! He did not open up the QB Starting position. Orton is our man, BUT should Quinn out perform Orton I believe the man will play the best player that buys into his system! Lets face it if you don’t buy into the coaches system he isn’t gonna play ya! ie.. B-Marsh, Hillis, etc. etc.
On that note, I just wanted to say thanks to the regulars on this blog! You keep me informed and laughing through out my days.. I promise I won’t be so few and far between on my posts!!!
BWK, yeah the laughing part is real imporatant to me, yesterday started out real nice then it all went into the dark ages with the relentless ganging up style of bashing on Orton, so I just pulled out to do better things. I guess everybody gets their kicks different ways.
BTW, brian very well put about Orton, saying it like it is without the need to attempt to humiliate the man.
Orton is working hard to improve. If he was just being lazy and not trying to improve like Russell then I’d have a problem. He’s trying to improve and I have to appreciate the fact that he is at the offseason workouts. I do feel a lot more comfort know that Quinn or Brandstater will be the one to step in if something happens to Orton. Hey, if Quinn wows the coaches and is just awesome heck start ‘em. Everyone is saying how do or don’t pick this person because they haven’t proven anything. Quinn hasn’t proved anything, Orton has proved he can be effective in this system at this level.
I just had a chance to watch Jamal’s interview he may be 34 but he has the personalitly of a 24 year old. He’s going to totally destroy Rivers. In the huddle with Rivers, “ok, guys, I don’t care if all 5 of you lineman have to block Jamal just make sure he doesn’t touch me because I’ll crap myself if he does, then I’ll cry like a baby ok..ready break!”
In my opinion, Jamal will bring the needed leadership to the D line in a kind of similar way Dawkins has brought it to the secondary. I believe he will be by far the biggest one man improvement this team will have this year. My excitement for the season has gone up considerably since the D line rebuild, now onto O line and power backs so we can be running all the way to the playoffs making the QB’s job easy.
Orton played good last year, and all some of you guys do is bash him and say he isn’t a starter, explain that one. Is it because he doesn’t have elite arm strength,or because he’s not a 1st round pick, his worst games this year were against Pittsburgh, Kansas City(last game), and Baltimore. Other than that his lowest QB rating was 83.5, his game against Cleavland, where he threw no interceptions, just had a bad completion rate. And the SD game cannot truly be counted because he was not even supposed to play that game, and it showed, he’s the best we’ve has since Jake Plummer
Let’s never forget it took Elway 15 years trying to go all the way and falling short without a great running game, until year 16 and 17 when he finally got the running game going full tilt with Terrell Davis and won back to back SB’s. There is got to be a lesson here than us Bronco fans shouldn’t be able to miss as it is so glaring, we desperately need that top tier running game again, regardless of who is QB. It’s like people worry about having Marshall to help Orton…. Even if that’s a start, it in no way compares to how much a great running game would help Orton. Just misplaced priorities if you ask me.
When I said Jamal had the “personality of a 24 year old” I mean it in a good way. He’s got some playfulness to his attitude and doesn’t seem to take himself too seriously. Plus I like the fact that he wants to help the younger guys improve too. Just so nobody gets me misunderstood. I like Jamal I think he’ll make Rivers cry in his sleep.
John Elway, as we all know, was one of the best if not THE best QB of all time. That is a given. Having that legacy to live up to for any QB that comes to play in Denver is what makes a lot of fans so critical against Orton and the others that have tried to fill Elway’s shoes. That is why there are so many Orton bashers. Everyone needs to complete the grieving process over the loss of our great HOF QB. It’s been over 11 years since the back to back SB win and Elway’s retirement. Orton has been here over a year now in the new system, which is a very complex and efficient system and we shoule all see marked improvement from him this year. Give the man a chance.
should see improvement. oops
Sadly, the history of Orton in this blog. 6-0, “but with Cutler we would be 8-0″ (even with 6 games played)… There’s no way Orton can win any sympathy in this blog. If we get into the playoffs this year 10-6, then “with other QB we would have been 12-4 or better”… if we reach conference championship, then “other QB would have take us to SB”… and even if we win the SB in 2010, “with other QB we would have won SB in 2009″. This thing is boring now. It’s not objective anymore, just foolish bashing for the sake of bashing.
I’m not an Orton lover, but there are better things to discuss about than that. Boooring. And for those who think that a good QB is the one with strong arm and mobility… then Jamarcus must be your ideal offensive leader, huh? He fits that requirements quite well.
For all the ones who think Quinn may be the second coming, or at least the answer to our QB woes, we all need to take a serious look at what he actually did last year on the field, regardless of the “he played on a crappy team, he didn’t have an O line, he got hurt some, blah blah…” arguments.
Quinn’s 2009 stats:
136 compl. out of 256 att. for 1,339 yards. Compl % 53.1
8 td 7 int. Rating 67.2
Orton’s 2009 stats:
336 compl. out of 541 att. for 3,802 yards. Compl % 62.1
21 td 12 int. Rating 86.8
I am in no way shape or form ready to say that Quinn is the answer to anything at this point, he will have to show all these numbers wrong to me on the field before I see him as a valuable option. For now, just like Brandstater, he brings competition to the table, that’s all.
