What They’re Saying

January 5th, 2011 - 10:10am by Gray Caldwell

With the news that John Elway will join the Broncos front office as executive vice president of football operations, we thought we’d compile some recent quotes on the move. All of the quotes came before Elway officially assumed his new position.

Champ Bailey:
“Obviously he doesn’t have a track record of being involved, but for what he means to Denver, great move. I think his presence will definitely rub off on a lot of people, and this program definitely benefits from that. I’ve looked up to him since I’ve been here. He’s the man, he’s always going to be the man. I hope he can do some good things for us.”

“He’s effective. His voice, his presence, that’s all you need — somebody to be positively effective in this locker room. If you can find anybody like that, John Elway might be the guy.”

“I think when you talk about (John) Elway and then (Broncos Owner and CEO) Mr. (Pat) Bowlen and (Team President) Mr. (Joe) Ellis and those guys upstairs — they are going to do what is right. … I think with Mr. Bowlen, Mr. Ellis and Elway running this team, everything will be fine.”

Correll Buckhalter:
“I think it is a great fit — a guy like John Elway who had a lot of success in this league and who was around a lot of great players and knows how to win — I think he will bring a good positive energy to this organization. He will help them hand-select some guys who will help this organization win and get back to the tradition of winning Super Bowls.”

Brian Dawkins:
“He’s a very knowledgeable individual, obviously, or he wouldn’t be coming back in. Obviously he has a love for this organization, so you know he’s going to put his best foot forward on a consistent basis to make sure that we get back to where the Broncos should be. I believe it’s a positive thing, and I’m pretty sure you won’t find anybody that’s going to think that’s a negative thing to have John back in our house.”

Mario Haggan:
“I’m happy for John. It will be even greater to have an opportunity to work with him. We’ll see what happens. This is a business. Things change. There will be a lot of reshaping — hopefully not much because I like a lot of guys in this locker room.”

Texans Head Coach Gary Kubiak:
“I think John would be tremendous. This business, whether you are in the front office, whether you are coaching, whether you are playing it is about competing. What I have said many times, that is the greatest competitor to ever play this game, so whatever John chooses to do in life he is going to do it well.”

Brandon Lloyd:
“I think it’s going to be great. It will be a good situation to have that energy and that knowledge of what it takes to build a team from the ground up. It should bring a lot of excitement to the players. Growing up in Kansas City, I know all about John Elway and what he accomplished on the field. His aura and the level of respect that current players have and should have for a legend. It should carry over.”

Kyle Orton:
“I think John obviously is the Broncos. He knows his stuff — knows football. Any time you can bring that mind and that person into the building it would be a good thing.”

Tim Tebow:
“I think it would be great. I think all the players here, including myself, have a great respect for John and what he did in the NFL as one of the best quarterbacks ever. He knows this game extremely well and he is someone that understands it and knows what the players are going through and knows how to help them and everything like that. I think that players would be totally on board with that and I think it could only be a benefit.”

  23. caramelloo says:

What up royalbroncofan1 and what up Ash aka lil sis. Wow where do I start?! My time in Denver confirmed why I’m a die hard Broncos fan! The loss didn’t mess up my trip at all! I was so blessed and excited to be surrounded by Orange and Blue! We went to the stadium on Sat so we could take pics bc we knew we were gonna be all over the place on Sunday. Let me tell you this! I was so EXCITED that I started to cry a little when we pulled up to Mile High!

On Sunday was the 2nd greatest day after me getting married last May. Everyone showed us and others soooooooo much love that all I could do is smile. While my wife said…… “Wow I’ve never seen anything like this before!” No disrespect to the Saints bc we go to their games but they don’t even show the love like the Broncos fans show said my wife.

The way the vibe felt outside and inside the stadium was awesome despite the cold weather (which I loved). it felt like we were 11-4 and not 4-11!

broncosfreak30 we stood right there where the players enter at and got alot of good pics and video of them. We made a sign before the game that everyone was loving. Tebow smiled and threw his hand up in approval when he saw the sign on his way in. Alot of the players acknowledged the sign as they were warming up. Even McCoy and Wink showed some love. Jabar Gaffney showed much love. He came over took some pics and signed our sign.

We hung out with the Limo Driver man and made so much thunder that a guy on our row threw up is food. He later was escorted out bc he was way too drunk ( code of conduct).

  24. caramelloo says:

One more thing….. Ryan Harris had a little attitude as if he was to good to speak when everyone was talking to him. I started to remind him that I saw him on MTV’s True Life (I want a perfect body) but I let him slide bc it was gameday. We took alot of great pics and if anyone wants to see them just let me know. We haven’t gone through the videos yet but Brady Quinn, D. Thomas, E. Royal, and a few others showed love while we had the video camera rolling.

  25. marshisboss says:

Hey caramelloo what did the sign say?

  26. caramelloo says:

    It said

    NEW ORLEANS(in black)
LOVES (in orange with blue outline on the O)
    THE (in blue)
DENVER BRONCOS (in blue with orange outline on the O’s)

  27. 07elway says:

Awww, you cried?! haha, sucker for the Broncos, eh? Glad you had a great time! That was smart going to the stadium the day before. Would be cool to see the pics… send ‘em to Coop and he’ll put up on his blog! lol

Yeah, Bronco fans are one of a kind. Tride & true to the Orange & Blue!! Even in their worst season since God knows when. We have hope for a better football team down the road with Tebow & Elway. Deadly combo right there.

Glad to have you back bro! ;)

  28. 07elway says:

Cool sign… bet it looked awesome!

  29. caramelloo says:

We wanted to put Mile High Salute on back of the sign but i was rushing to leave. I wanted to be at the stadium as early as I could bc I wanted to soak up everything.

  30. caramelloo says:

I’ll send them to Coop and I’ll send them to you as well sis. Whoever is on Facebook could just request me and see them on there. Yes I am a big sucker for the Broncos. The people in the stands loooooooooooooved them some Timmy T 2k! All you heard was…. Unleash the Tebow, Lets go Timmy yo can do it, lead us Tim lead us, etc etc

  31. caramelloo says:

I will be adding them to my Broncos Country page tonight as well

  32. marshisboss says:

That sign sounds cool. Elway sounds so pumped and focused i think this will work well for us

  33. 07elway says:

Yeah, I remember watching the game and especially during the 2nd half I could hear the whole stadium chanting Tebow’s name. We got something special in him for this team. Look forward to seeing the pics. Coop will only post so many so make sure you send him the really good ones… I’m sure they all are but pick the best of the best.

Gotta go but I am SO PUMPED for Elway coming back. In case you hadn’t noticed! lol Maybe now I won’t be so stressed as to what our front office will be doing during the offseason… with McD, I feared for what he was going to do next. Later boyz…. :)

    GO BRONCOS in 2011!!!!!!!!!

  34. baylinorcrush says:

Elway’s press conference over, all I can say is AWESOME, anyone who didn’t hear the one hour conference outta read the transcript, that’s for sure. INSPIRING!

  35. seweatherman1 says:

That was a great news conference, except they did not have the questions miced up so we could hear them. Elway had good things to say about everything. Sounded like if the new HC does not like TT then he may not be the man for the job. (If i understood that correctly)

  36. strandoftds says:

Ya 07, It`s a free country. Supposed to be anyway.

  37. Broncos Born & Raised says:

What up Melo I’m so glad to here you had a great time, bro!

  38. broncosfreak30 says:

    Weatherman…

You definitely heard correctly!! Elway said that if the coach that they interviewed didn’t believe in Tebow then it was probably the wrong decision to go with that coach!!!

That means that Elway definitely believes in Tebow and is going to do everything he can to help Tebow succeed!!! Let’s just hurry and get our head coach and start evaluating our players!!

I don’t think us fans have ever been this excited about an off season!! Especially with no head coach, hahah!

  39. broncosfreak30 says:

    Hey guys just reported!!!

Da’quan Bowers is entering this years draft so he is definitely an option for us!!!!

  40. strandoftds says:

Two things that caught my attention. Elway said that the next HC has to remember the fans. It`s also about the fans. And secondly when John talked about having to win in our own backyard again. He said thats very important. John stated that when he was playing no team wanted any part of going to play the Bronco`s in Denver. Not with our crowd of fans. YEEEEESSSS!!!!!!!!!!

  41. strandoftds says:

Where did you get the news Broncosfreak30?

  42. BeastFromEast92 says:

Elway talked about staying with the 3-4,so now do we need Fairley or Bowers?

  43. caramelloo says:

What’s up Broncos Born & Raised and thanks bro! It was beyond AMAZING! I’ve been telling all my Saints family and friends about it and they are a little jealous.

  44. BeastFromEast92 says:

    Fairley DT/DE 6’5 298LBS
    Bowers DE/OLB 6’4 280lbs

  45. strandoftds says:

Man, I can`t wait until April.

  46. danso says:

I liked what I heard from Elway. The next HC shouldn’t and can’t be a control freak because the big decisions will be a three way decision is what I’m hearing which is the way it should be when they are deciding the direction of the team, big trades, whether to pay Champ etc etc. I don’t think a coach like Gruden would fit in to this type system but a smart coordinator like one of the several who will interview should be perfect with most of his efforts directed toward coaching rather than personnel decisions. I like what is happening.

  47. BeastFromEast92 says:

Yeah a HC should do what he is paid to do and that is COACHING,and leave all the business to the businessmen!

  48. strandoftds says:

I just now looked up Da`Qaun Bowers and found that he is enering the draft. The story showed his stats and awards. But sad to see he lost his father before the season. So he overcame adversity and conqeured. What he went through this year was a very tough thing to go through.

  49. footballMANIAC says:

I agree with trading Orton. A 2nd rounder would be great value for him, not to mention a boon for a flagging roster. He was not a franchise quarterback. Franchise quarterbacks don’t cough up the ball repeatedly when the game is on the line. Stats mean nothing other than you want him in fantasy football.

  50. broncos=victory says:

    I LOVE it.. GO BRONCOS!
