Watching the Mocks: March 18

March 18th, 2011 - 2:13pm by Gray Caldwell

It’s been more than a month since the last Watching the Mocks, and plenty more voices have chimed in.

From NFL.com, Charley Casserly, Michael Lombardi, Bucky Brooks and Pat Kirwan each have the Broncos selecting Alabama defensive lineman Marcell Dareus with the second overall pick.

Their peer at the network, Steve Wyche, predicts the pick will be Clemson defensive lineman Da’Quan Bowers.

Another NFL Network writer, Albert Breer, enlisted the help of a college scout from the AFC for his mock draft. Breer (via the scout) sees LSU cornerback Patrick Peterson headed to Denver.

Sports Illustrated’s Don Banks has updated his mock draft, and he echoes many of the NFL Network predictions of a Dareus selection.

ESPN.com’s Mel Kiper and Todd McShay differ on their guesses for the Broncos’ pick, and McShay brings up a name not often tied to the Broncos — Texas A&M linebacker Von Miller.

He has the Carolina Panthers selecting Dareus with the No. 1 pick, and said that while “Dareus should be the pick if he’s available,” in a choice between Peterson and Miller, he predicts the Broncos would choose Miller for his pass-rushing abilities.

Kiper, on the other hand, sticks with his original pick and sees the Broncos taking Auburn defensive lineman Nick Fairley.

From CBSSports.com, Chad Reuter sees the Broncos going with Bowers, and Rob Rang predicts that Dareus will be the selection.

With the draft a little more than a month away, we will keep you updated as the mocks keep rolling in.

Pat Kirwan adressing our needs pretty well right along my way of thinking except he totally forgets about our LBs:

John Elway now runs the show in Denver, and he was smart enough to hire veteran coach John Fox. The switch to a 3-4 defense was a failed experiment, and Fox will switch back to a 4-3 scheme and needs the personnel to run it. Look for the Broncos to take two defensive linemen in their top four picks. There will be a very good defensive player available with the second overall pick.

After the defensive issues are resolved, a tight end and possibly a right tackle could be targeted. Some feel a running back could be on Fox’s list since he operated with two backs in Carolina. Maybe the Broncos hit the free agent market to add backfield depth in the form of DeAngelo Williams, who Fox knows very well.

    * Draft choices: Nos. 2, 36, 46, 67, 181, 184

  2. baylinorcrush says:

Even so we only have 6 picks, you gotta love what we got over what the Raiders have:

    * Draft choices: Nos. 48, 81, 112, 145, 176, 209

We pick 4 times to their one time until their 81st pick!!!

  3. baylinorcrush says:

And three times before they even get their first pick, hahahaha….Stupid Raiders….

  4. baylinorcrush says:

Totally rad post for the top of a page, LOL.

  5. marshisboss says:

I can’t wait for the draft i don’t think we can trade the 2 pick unless a rookie cap is set which i doubt will happen before the draft no one wants to spend that kind of money right now. Pick Dareus and lets get going

  6. baylinorcrush says:

I’m not going to get overly excited before the NFL posts it, but the NFLdraftsite.com are projecting us to get two compensatory picks, #242 and 253, I’ll gladly take those…

  7. baylinorcrush says:

Courtesy of Hillis and Phonzy? I mean they are the only two traded who produced enough, Marshall and Scheffler didn’t exactly do that…

  8. strandoftds says:

Two compensatory picks, I`ll take. Thats if we get them. More ammunition. Nice.

  9. baylinorcrush says:

Yeah, because the way I understand it without a cba, teams are not going to be able to bring in and sign free agent undrafted players this year, not 100% positive though.

  10. sndvl says:

CLEVELAND — A Cleveland Browns fan sued the National Football League and its teams over the player lockout, claiming it violated his contract to buy tickets through his personal seat license.
Ken Lanci, a self-made millionaire who ran unsuccessfully last year for the top county government job in Cleveland, filed the lawsuit Thursday in Cuyahoga County Common Pleas Court.

“It’s a fight between billionaires and millionaires,” Lanci said Friday in a phone interview. “There isn’t any sympathy for multi-millionaires. It’s just not going to happen. And somebody has to stand up and say, ‘Enough’s enough.’”
The lawsuit asked for damages of more than $25,000 from the Browns on both breach of contract and bad faith counts and more than $25,000 from the league and its teams for alleged contract interference.

  11. baylinorcrush says:

Meaning drafted players is all you would get, and that would make it 8 instead of 6…

  12. baylinorcrush says:

Saw that, millionaires always find ways to kill time, haha.

  13. marshisboss says:

would we be able to trade next years picks or only this years

  14. strandoftds says:

I just looked up that site. It looks as if the Bronco`s will be selecting Mr. irrelevent this year. Wild!

  15. strandoftds says:

A team can trade next years picks also.

  16. baylinorcrush says:

Don’t know what you mean, they have us picking Dareus with the #2.

  17. strandoftds says:

Ya Bay, any player who isn`t drafted this year is in the same boat as the free agents already playing in the NFL. It sucks for them.

  18. baylinorcrush says:

Yeah, picks for picks, anything goes, even 2013 picks if you want.

  19. marshisboss says:

    Cool thanks for the info

  20. Yovi21 says:

    Tebow says:

“I didn’t go on any vacations,” Tebow said. “I was at the Broncos’ facility up until the night of the lockout. Now that we’re locked out, I’m still training, still grinding away. Everyone wants to be there. The owners want to get things resolved for this season, the players want to play this season and most importantly, the fans want us to play this season. We don’t want to do anything to hurt the greatest game in America. I hope and pray they’ll come to a conclusion soon.”

Now who wouldn’t want this guy on your team? I think we should see Tebow behind center come….well whenever the season starts

  21. baylinorcrush says:

That’s in between underwear shots, haha.

  22. strandoftds says:

And Tim Tebows book hits the shelves in mid April.

  23. Yovi21 says:

I’ll be reading that haha…Bay, at least he took time out of his underwear interview to talk about how hard he’s working haha

  24. true2broncos says:

Where is everyone today? I love how the #11 VCU guys are putting up a serious fight for the national championship in the NCAA Tournament. College Fottball could learn a thing or two about PLAYOFFS from college Basketball!

  25. orangesunsetgj says:

John Elway said in one of his latest press conferences that whoever the Broncos take with the 2nd. pick in the draft. This is going to be the face of the franchise for the next 10 years. What is the longevity of a Defensive Tackle of a Defense End? The only player that is described by that statement is Patrick Peterson another shut down CB This is a tough decision and the Draft is no gaurantee. I just couldn’t stand it if Dallas of San Francisco was the benefactor of the Broncos not pulling the trigger!!! If they do want to move up make demands so high it cripples their franchise for years. There will still be quality DT at 36th pick. This Draft doesn’t bring the franchise Quaterback that we want. The Broncos want to be in position next year for Andrew Luck

  26. true2broncos says:

FACE of the franchise is usually a QB! Let’s hope we don’t go there again – PLEASE!!!

  27. orangesunsetgj says:

#2 Patrick Peterson CB #36 Marvin Austin #46 DT #46 Christian Ballard DE #67 De Marco Murry RB or #2 Mercell Dareus DT #36 Rahim Moore FS #46 Stephen Paea DT # 67 Sam Acho OLB or #2 Da Qaun Bowers DE #36 Mikel LeShoure RB #46 Martez Wilson ILB #67 Allen Bailey DE
