Not many updates from the first edition of Watching the Mocks, but Sports Illustrated’s Don Banks has chimed in with his prediction for the Broncos’ No. 2 overall selection in the 2011 NFL Draft — Clemson defensive end Da’Quan Bowers.
“If the Broncos switch to a 4-3 defense as expected under new coordinator Dennis Allen, Bowers would be an ideal fit as the best pure pass-rushing end in this year’s draft class,” Banks writes. “With a healthy Elvis Dumervil presumably headed back to defensive end in a 4-3 scheme, Denver’s 32-ranked sack total of 2010 would get a major boost. LSU cornerback Patrick Peterson is another strong option if the Broncos decide a replacement for Champ Bailey is in order.”
We’ll keep you updated as new mocks are released.

BFE my friend. I gotta hit the hay bro. Talk to you later man. SR BOWL bro. Have a good one.
JINKS!!! LMAO!!!
We could do a lot of damage in the second round this year. Especially if we get a 2nd for orton! Then we could maybe get Jones, Rudolph, Moore/black!
Im glad im not the only Bowers fan. That man is a complete beast off the edge. Put him and doom and QBs are dead when it comes to Pass rush. And Pass rush = mistakes which = fumbles and interceptions. No doubt we need to address run D but theres still some Interior Dlinemen in the second. Good ones too. When Fox got to Carolina his first pick was DE Julius Peppers, I see it happening again with Bowers and If Fox believes Bowers is worthy, I am not gonna doubt the guy who drafted Peppers. Its hard to picture the draft with so many FA Questions and CBA questions…But I am holding out that we sign champ, Cox gets off, and Syd becomes our Nickle. That way as much as i like peterson….we can do without. Can’t have em all. Im just worried about what we will do with Ayers if we get Bowers…but I am definitely number 1 Bowers supporter around here. TRB out…
wow. i just realized what i got in common with strand and bfe. ac/dc is by far my favorite band and dream theatre is right there with them. not many people i talk to in life even know who dream theatre is. if you know dream theatre, you know good music. could listen to their albums for hours and hours. theres nothing ac/dc has come out with that i havent got. and have LOVED every second of it. was cool to read that conversation. wish i knew more people here in my town who would talk about that!
as for the broncos i still say bowers could be a bust. fairly i would take but like i said peterson is a sure fire game changer that is a rare player. to pass on fairly or bowers would be tough, i’m not denying that, but you just have to take peterson. once in a decade talent. take him. i like nevis too but would rather have jones ilb than sheppard. tho sheppard is not a bad option at all. if he’s there in the 4th and we missed on jones, then get him cuz it would be a steal. dont forget about paea from oregon. someone mentioned the next ngata and thats possible. peterson in 1st round, jones or paea in 2nd, and rudolph or moore with other 2nd. that would be a good set of picks. and trading orton for a 2nd wouldnt be a bad idea i just dont think we will. we need assurances behind tebow if he doesnt pan out or gets hurt. and beleive me he very well may end up hurt alot. quinn just doesnt make anyone feel good being the 2nd qb.
oregon state. paea
Louisiana, You know your stuff bro. The Bronco`s and Incredible music. Anyone who knows of Dream Theatre I instantly have to have respect for. They by far are musical genuises. There`s nothing like them. As for our Bronco`s I`m looking forward to the draft. Today is the SR Bowl. Way cool. So lets find some diamonds in the rough.
Broncos freak30, Those three players would fit us perfect bro. Good call dude.
Get rid of Orton and bring in Jake Delhomme as a back up for Tebow. At least with Jake he’d try to help Tebow and not pout like Orton. Jake will understand that he’s not a starter and his purpose is to be a back up.
i know a bust when i see one and Bowers is definatley a bust.. I knew Jarvis Moss was a bust and Gaines Adams was a bust.. Bowers is the top rated bust in this draft IMO
No offense bro but no one KNOWS anything. Bowers was one of the top talents coming out of High School and now also college…he is not a bust. He is a very talented speed rusher. Peterson as lauded over as he is, could be the bust. But this is clearly all opinion based but theirs fact to back it up. Point is, no ones a gaurantee. Im not saying we will get bowers but i believe he is VERY talented. I dunno if we get him, like i said, theres still that Ayers thing since he is a DE and too big to be a LB in 4-3. So Bowers may not be chosen, but im personally a fan….just me…
ya u got that right, strand. there is def nothing like them. masters of music for sure. pure talent. gotta say i agree with bronconasty. theres bust potential in bowers. i too did not like the jarvis moss pick up when we did it. i couldnt figure out what shanny was thinking there. he was small and just didnt even look like an nfl player. bowers could be great tho. he’s one that could go either way. too big a risk at #2 tho to me. jake delhomme would be good for tebow for sure but i would really be hoping he wouldnt play. he has fallen far. good football mind tho. gonna watch senior bowl and all programming associated with it and we’ll see after all of that what we think about some of these players. may have another “must have” player emerge, or may realize one of the guys we want really sucks. man i love this time of year. as for the league and the players… GET A DEAL DONE MAN.
TRB… peterson will not be a bust. other than that u have good points
Bowers Bannan Thomas Ayers honestly with that line up you would be better than last year. Keep Dummervil at linebacker send in the blitz in key situations are you kidding the quarterback might as well kneel it down on 3rd and long. Dummervil is to small to be a 4,3 end it would compromise the run defense everyone would run to his side might as well keep him at outside linebacker. At least that’s my opinion, he would be a situational player at end and at linebacker you could bring him in on most downs. You could also get Fairly, either way either player would be an upgrade at the position you could also trade back try to pick up a DT and another linebacker or a DE but at the end of the day you dont want to over analyze everything but to move Dummervil back to the end position that would probably mean less downs for him he wouldn’t be on the field on 1st down 2nd down he would mainly be a 3rd down player at end and if your going to give the guy superstar money you want him on the field as much as possible.
If Xanders, Fox, and Elway don’t resighn Champ it will be a sad day in The Mile High City. I say we keep Champ that way he can break Peterson in if we can get him in draft.
I am in the Peterson camp. Only because I believe Carolina will take Fairly. Bowers is a high risk/high reward type. Peterson is a gamer. End of story
If we do take Bowers I won’t be disappointed. I like the idea of Doom at OLB. A front with Ayers-Bannan-Williams(Thomas)-Bowers. Put DJ behind Bowers and Doom behind Ayers. Draft the best ILB available with our first second. Mays, Haggan and Larsen if ever given a legitimate shot. We look good on paper. With Fox and Allen running things, we won’t have the “basic flaws exposed”.
Let’s get the CBA signed please!
man i can hear the crickets today on this blog
Nice to see some fellow metal heads on this blog! BTV always playes some cool riffs in the background. Pumps me up!
Hey I liked 2 guys in that bowl game one both were form the North one was #7 CB played very well gave receivers little room and #33 HB was fast and powerful. I don’t remember their names though. Sheppard was disappointing he was slow and did not have an instinct for the ball.
Lets see if that sparks a conversation.
The CB is Richard Sherman
Here is his Bio he is projected as undrafted.
Sherman, 6-2 and 192 pounds, started 12 of 13 games for Stanford this season. He posted 50 tackles and led The Cardinal with 13 passes broken up, including four interceptions. The lanky Sherman has the height teams are looking for in a press corner, but has struggled, at times, in coverage. – Chad Reuter, NFLDraftScout.com
