Not many updates from the first edition of Watching the Mocks, but Sports Illustrated’s Don Banks has chimed in with his prediction for the Broncos’ No. 2 overall selection in the 2011 NFL Draft — Clemson defensive end Da’Quan Bowers.
“If the Broncos switch to a 4-3 defense as expected under new coordinator Dennis Allen, Bowers would be an ideal fit as the best pure pass-rushing end in this year’s draft class,” Banks writes. “With a healthy Elvis Dumervil presumably headed back to defensive end in a 4-3 scheme, Denver’s 32-ranked sack total of 2010 would get a major boost. LSU cornerback Patrick Peterson is another strong option if the Broncos decide a replacement for Champ Bailey is in order.”
We’ll keep you updated as new mocks are released.

SIGN CHAMP!!
The running back is Da’Rel Scott and he is projected 6-7 round
Bio 5′ 11″ 205lbs and 4.42 40 time I like him.
An electrifying fifth-year senior, Scott is an explosive playmaker who finished his Terrapin career with an MVP performance in the Military Bowl. He broke late touchdown runs of 61 (untouched) and 91 yards (broke one arm tackle) in the victory over East Carolina.
Scott’s career stats include 2,400 yards rushing with an impressive 5.5 yards per carry and 17 touchdowns, plus more than 500 yards receiving. Scott projects best in a committee situation at the next level as a change of pace option and a third-down back getting 10-15 touches per game.
does anyone even check this anymore?
SIGN CHAMP,HARRIS,AND PRATER!!!
this better be a good offseason.. we better draft nothing but studs and put in the right schemes.. our defense better be tough and nasty.. im tired of watching a soft, pathetic defense running around like they dont know whats going on..
Hey someone correct me if I am wrong but doesn’t the Panthers HC seem like a guy that does not want troubled players like Fairley? I am just thinking we might get lucky and the Panthers might pass him up because of his “Dirty play” not that I mind or anything.
Trade Orton, Moreno, Buck, Dawkins, Haggans, Gaffney, DJ Williams, Jamal Williams, and anybody else that has SOME value for good DEFENSIVE players. Draft defensive linemen and Gurney at CB and then a power RB, like Thomas from K State. Rely on Free Agency to fill other positions of need, like at least ONE reliable O-lineman. Finally, COACH THEM UP!!!
wow aussie, trade the whole team while you’re at it…..understand what you’re trying to say, but there are some names in there we definitely shouldn’t let go…..
I agree with slivic….just cuz the last era left a bitter taste in our mouth doesnt mean ship everyone off..and half the people u mentioned have virtually no trade value…and I believe we should’nt rely on free agency for ANYTHING not unless we have absolutely no choice, or the player is that good, and that YOUNG.
Mikeyb, blogs are always slow come friday and saturday….well, way more slow than the rest of the week. TRB out….
u dont build a championship roster with free agency, u build ur core roster through the draft then add the few missing ingredients with free agency. if u need an example look at the two representatives playing in super bowl this year, 95% built through the draft. and trading some of the older players like champ and dawkins would make sense but value would b questionable at this point in there career. we need to add youth and talent regardless. and need to hit on all our picks this year, should get 2-3 starters on defense and maybe a playmaking TE to help tebow. all of our offense is too young to overhaul and does have talent and potential, with time and maturation of tebow could gell together and hopefully b really explosive down the road. so forget getting rid of all our defensive starters and going all free agency, dont quit ur day job buddy
AMEN bronconasty
Pro Bowl day! Yay.
Hopefully it’s not like last years situation where a favorite appears for the last time in the orange and blue!
Let’s get the CBA headed in the right direction.
Like to see Champ get a pick 6,and show the top brass that he still has it!!
SIGN CHAMP!!!
I hear that Sndvl…I def watched that game like it was his last with orange and blue on…and he scored and that put a smile on my face…Hopefully Blloyd and Champ have similar if not great success. Pro Bowl may just be a popularity contest but i cant wait. why? cuz it’s football. And I love me some football. Last 2 games for the next 8 or so months. Enjoy It Ladies and Gents. TRB out…
I agree that we need to focus on defense this draft and with FA. Maybe we get Fairley maybe not, but if we dont what do yall think about Marvin Austin out of UNC? With one of our second round picks maybe our third. He played great in the senior bowl.
BSR56,
I like Fairley as well (talent not attitude) but I wouldn’t be dissapointed if we went Bowers or Peterson with the first pick (Bowers 2nd pick, peterson trading down if possible and picking up a extra 3rd)
Theres alot of really good DT talent in the second round and between our 2 second round picks and another 2nd round pick we may get for austin, I wouldn’t mind holding off till the second round to take a guy like DT Paea, DT Drake Nevis, DT Marvin Austin, DT Phil Taylor…There are still options that late…The question however is do you want the best…which many believe is Fairley, but like I said, his attitude is a turn off to me…But like a frequent blogger once said, its a lot easy to tone down intensity/nastiness than instill it in someone. TRB out…
sidenote: If ayers goes back to the line as a DE or Maybe even DT (DT was his second position in college) and at 6’3 275, he is no light weight…I wonder if he will move back to his college number (91) which is a DL number. TRB out…
TRB,I remember when Ayers played at UT in college, but he is nowhere near as effective at DT,he can dominate at DE,IMO.
Ayers-Bannan/Vickerson-Fairley-Doom Dline
with
DJ-Jones-Haggan/Hunter LBs
Would be a solid front 7 IMO.
With Allen and Fox coaching them,I think they can be good!
I agree with both of you guys. I just want our defense to be tough as nails and nasty! Look at the Packers and Steelers they both have great defenses. This draft is so deep with talent on the defensive side of the ball if we draft good we could be back at the top of the division where we belong.
I think if we don’t get Fairley we take Dareus, just me!
Lloyd making the first play baby!!!
Not just you BFE. I’m right there with you man.
Actually I’d go as far as to say get Dareus even if Fairley IS available. I just think Dareus will have a better work ethic/attitude than Fairley at this level.
Lloyd with some uncharacteristic drops. Hope he gets a chance to get in the endzone and redeem him self. (They were tough catche sbut still uncharacteristic lol)
Anyone see that Brandon Lloyd interview on the homepage? Even he doesn’t believe that Kyle Orton will be coming back … said he has proved he can play well in this league and he will be happy with whatever team he lands on and that there are alot of voids at QB in the NFL. He also praised Tebow (but thats to be expected from one teammate to another). We all knew Orton was as good as gone when Broncos released that they will be entertaining a 2nd round pick for him. Not to mention we don’t need a 9 million dollar back up. Now if a CBA can get hammered out, we can get our pick and a team can get thier new QB. TRB out…
Well apparently the critics are saying that Jones draft stock has dropped from the Senior Bowl game. That could be VERY helpful to us in drafting him!

Here is also something that is very interesting on Jones, a must read!

In other news, the Panthers have let go of assistant coach Skipper!

Here is something about Peterson and the Broncos!

Here is a mock draft with highlights of each player at every position for the first 2 rounds!!
http://bleacherreport.com/articles/590601-2011-nfl-mock-draft-first-two-rounds-post-senior-bowl-with-highlights#page/1
Phil Taylor has been talked about a lot after this Senior Bowl and some have him going in the first round! I think that if he does fall to the 2nd round then he should definitely be one of our picks!!! I would be thrilled to either see Taylor a Bronco! I think that he should be first priority if he falls to us with our first 2nd round pick!!
Broncosfreak30, We should sign Skipper to some assistant coching position. He would be valuable for us since Skipper and Fox have worked together for a long time.
We should definatley pick up the Linebackers from UNC.. Sturdivant and Carter.. Man o man
i bet everything that they both are studs in the later rounds
Natsy I agree about drafting cater 100%! He fits the mold of linebacker we need to draft I think. I dont know much about the other guy though.
my take on dis is y would u give up champ is my question if yall have ne knowelegde abt his rise 2 da best corner do yall rememba he played wit darryl green n deion sanders his rookie yr n washington back n 99 he learned 4rm them 2 mature his game i was 13yrs old then n back n 04 i felt da skins got nothin bac 4 him but a injured pron hb n a 2nd rd pick.
all im sayin is get peterson 2 play wit champ so he can learn 2 play da game right n da only way i would let champ go would b if we got dat free agant corner 4rm da raiders otha than dat we would b sum fools lettin him go
hamma, couldn’t of said it better myself, glad to see you’re around, LOL as usual.
I agree hamma.. why not take CB Peterson with the second pick and with the great depth at DT, we can take Paea, Drake Nevis, Marvin Austin, or Phil Taylor with our first pick in the 2nd round, and then we can choose any linebarker with the other second rounder?
But defenses are built around the trenches do you think that adding another corner in an already talent filled position would do any good? especially since denver is switching to a 4-3 front i think you gotta go defensive end and tackle in the first rounds. Defensive end more than DT because dumervil is undersized i dont quite know what the plan for him is like i stated before it would be smarter to keep him at outside linebacker then to put him back down on the line. This way you would have a good rotation on the front 4 and if you get pressure you dont really need a shut down corner yes they are nice to have but i dont see the steelers ever having one they CBs are average but make plays because pressure causes turnovers thats the only way to go this draft you get pass rushers and run stuffers build a defense that can deliver punishment and challenge an opponent to do anything because they know as soon as the ball gets there they are gonna get hit and they are gonna get hit hard with the intention that you will think twice before cutting it up field or catching a pass down the middle.
