The 2011 NFL Draft starts tonight, so here’s one final look at how the mocks see Denver’s pick.
At NFL.com, it’s a virtual consensus that Denver will snag Alabama defensive lineman Marcell Dareus at No. 2. The only dissenter is Mike Mayock, who sees Texas A&M linebacker Von Miller as the pick.
ESPN’s Mel Kiper agrees with Mayock, predicting Miller will go off the board at No. 2. His counterpart with the Worldwide Leader, Todd McShay, took the easy route and went with three options for the selection. He stands by his pick all along and goes with Dareus, but he says scenario two is Miller, and scenario three is a quarterback.
As for Sports Illustrated, Peter King chimes in with his opinion — he sees Dareus headed to Denver. SI.com’s Don Banks agrees.
At CBSSports.com, it’s a similar situation to NFL.com. It’s a near consensus that Dareus will don orange and blue — at least according to Chad Reuter, Rob Rang and Pete Prisco. But Clark Judge predicts the selection will be Miller.
At FoxSports.com, a new name enters the fold. Peter Schrager thinks the Broncos will take LSU cornerback Patrick Peterson with the No. 2 overall pick. Mike O’Hara and WalterFootball.com both predict Miller, while Scout.com and Adam Caplan believe it’s Dareus. Former NFL head coach Brian Billick gets his opinion out there as well, and he goes with Dareus.
So there you have it. Click each link for more detailed explanations from the mock drafters. The draft is just a few hours away, and later this afternoon we will have a Day 1 Blog as a central location to discuss the evening’s events.
In the meantime, you can visit our Predraft Coverage page for links to the rest of the editions of “Watching the Mocks” along with combine coverage and draft position previews.
We also have a draft page, which will be updated throughout the three-day event.

Looks like the general concensus is in, but which one is right? We shall see…we shall see.
Hopefully it is Peterson, but we will be happy with any of those listed here, other than a qb.
See, they do pay attention to the fans.
This went from a mainly Peterson vs. Dareus debate to a Dareus vs. Miller real quick lol. I hope the best man wins so that we get him.
The consensus is in:
DAREUS FOR US
And the spare is Von Miller
And PP is the long shot
And a QB with the #2 as our third option???? McShay has been drinking BFE’s moonshine, LOL.
I think that hearing that “Miller is the only player the Broncos are considering with the No. 2 overall pick.” from the Denver Posts’ article being truncated by Yahoo really sent WalterFootball.com off the edge, their mock is crazy!
At least the Mallet pick is weird as they even admit to.
I believe the latest Miller hype used by the Broncos is a way to deflect the attention of the Panthers on Dareus.
Well it does look like PP got pushed out of the race by Miller, maybe because he would help the front seven.
LMAO! I thought the were looking for a face for their Franchise.
It is a better ‘smoke screen’ than saying they’re looking at a QB.
Anyway, final edition of the Mocks deserves a re-post of the contest rules:
FULL DRAFT CONTEST RULES:
The draft contest is open until this afternoon at 4pm Mtn time (same as blog time). It will then be closed for good and ABSOLUTELY NO EXCEPTIONS!
For bloggers wishing to enter, we need the name of the first four players the Broncos will pick in this draft and the order in which they will be picked , #2, #36, #46 and #67 picks as of now, and if you expect pick trades to be made, simply enter the first four players you think the Broncos will pick at whatever picks you figure they will have (example: #5, #29, #39 and #46 picks).
IMPORTANT:
YOU MUST SAY “CONTEST ENTRY” when posting your picks TO BE OFFICIALLY ENTERED IN THE CONTEST.
ONLY ONE ENTRY PER BLOGGER, so if in doubt wait until the 28th deadline to post. NO EXCEPTIONS, too much re-work for me.
AND NO MULTIPLE CHOICES FOR EACH PICK!
Highest number of correct players picked will win with the tie breaker being at what # those players were picked.
No prizes of any kind, just PRIDE, the biggest prize of all!
This contest is not affiliated with the Bronco organization, just an in house bronco blogosphere fabrication.
In my opinion…we have a face for the franchise. We just need someone tough enough on the DEFENSE to get him the ball back so he can woerk his magic with it.
Than we should go Dareus or Miller
Then*
BTW, PP here will be a problem because he won’t be able to wear his #7, haha. (courtesy of Woody)
IDK what it is, but I think I flat out just don’t want Dareus…I don’t even know why! I would love Miller or Peterson, but Dareus seems like a wasted pick to me..probably because this draft is loaded with talented DT…whatever happen I hope the guy we get is a difference maker!
No matter how unlikely I still want Peterson!
Good news is that our team showed up at the Facility today. From La Canfora.
Meanwhile, a dozen Denver Broncos showed up at the team’s Dove Valley headquarters in Englewood, Colo., and had a meeting with team president Joe Ellis.
The group included safety Brian Dawkins, defensive end Robert Ayers, linebacker Joe Mays and tight end Spencer Larsen. The players weren’t allowed to work out or do any football-related activities at the facility.
Team spokesman Patrick Smyth said Ellis met with the players in the team cafeteria for about 10 minutes. He explained that “everything is on hold at this time as we figure out how to proceed on our football business.”
Several of the players left right after the meeting. Smyth described as “professional and cordial.”
We don’t need a TE after all we got one right here in Larsen lmao.
“Everything is still on hold”, that’s the bottom line for now.
Did you guys notice that in the last two days many of the writers nationwide have been completely flipping out over their picks, as in a total state of panic, pretty much exactly like how many of the bloggers here have been acting the last two days.
Good thing Fox will be in the war room this time around, cool and collected, unlike his predecessor McD, uncool and unraveled, like many of the writers now, just saying, there are only very few who can handle the stress of the draft and these late changes of mind attest to all that.
I can’t get over Xanders telling that they have ten different scenaros ready to go this evening, and on through the higher rounds. Man, this draft is going to be something to watch. It is going to make history in more ways than one.
Hopefully this is the draft that is the building block for the Denver Broncos to be the first to win 3 Superbowls in a row. I can dream cant I.
Its typical practice Bay. All these so called experts say one thing but the closer to the draft they get they start flipping and flopping. Which is why I don’t put too much into drafts. They are almost always wrong. Still holding out for P-squared cuz I think he is the best pick. As far as him not being able to wear number 7 …. can DBs even wear single digits? lol…yea yea, i know, woody was cracking a funny lol. TRB out…
I dont put too much into MOCK*** drafts…
Yeah I liked hearing how thorough they have been in projecting the scenarios. At least we know that we won’t be pulling picks out of left field like the last couple of years.
If we had beaten wild card Jacksonville in Denver in the 1996 season divisional playoff game, we would of had a real good shot at 3 SBs in a row, the worse loss in our history as far as I’m concerned, at the very least the most consequential loss.
Another “mock” heard from.

Just no QB plz!!
PP is out because Bailey is re-signed.
Dareus plugs the biggest need. We have enough linebackers to make it work…pick one in the 2nd or 3rd if wanted.
Wow we have enough linbackers to make it work. I would rather have my linbackers being my strong point rather than a liability we have enough of those already with the safetys and DL.
Mikey, give the guy a break, it looks as it is his first post, like it was yours a few months ago, and he did say get one in the 2nd or 3rd, that being said I agree that LB’s is like the major weakness on D with DTs.
Almost Miller time kids!
Then Austin or Paea at #36 and RB R. Williams at 46.
If we could get Paea at #36 and Austin at #46 that would be killer. Then that TE lat name starts with a “K” in the round or a RB in the 3rd. Wish I wasn’t so old so I could remember something once in a while.
ok bay what time shall we look forward to you draft entry. or did i miss it.
Sorry just got excited. Welcome to the blog ThatWasQuick and I hope you will enjoy your blogging experience, it should get better after the draft lol.
does anyone think we will trade down. hope not.
I hope not too, but, I bet it all depends on what (or who) Carolina takes.
dunno if you guys already know but
Breaking News!!! NFL to open team facilities to players Friday
League announces offseason activities may begin Friday at 8 a.m. ET. More details to come.
it is as breaking news as us taking von miller.
full article
The NFL has notified its clubs they can resume operations, including most offseason activities, beginning Friday at 8 a.m. ET.
According to a statement issued by the league, team officials may immediately contact players to advise them about the hours the facilities will be open for use, to schedule medical and rehabilitation sessions and to set up meetings with coaches.
The league likely will address the start of the 2011 League Year on Friday. That would encompass player transactions such as free-agent signings.
The league said it was taking the steps as an appropriate response to the preliminary injunction granted by U.S. District Judge Susan Richard Nelson. The NFL’s request for a stay was denied Wednesday. The league is awaiting further guidance from the 8th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals, with which it has filed an appeal of the injunction and sought a stay.
The statement details eight points that deal with everything from players’ use of facilities to contact with team officials and the start of voluntary offseason workout programs.
Players who showed up at team complexes around the league on Thursday were again not allowed to do any activities.
NFL Network insider Jason La Canfora spoke with Washington Redskins center Casey Rabach, who reported to Redskin Park on Thursday morning. Rabach spoke briefly with general manager Bruce Allen, but he was not allowed to enter to work out.
“I stopped by to talk with Bruce,” Rabach said via text. “Everyone was good there. He told me they are waiting to hear on the stay filed with the 8th district court.”
When asked if he went to the facility hoping to work out, Rabach responded:
“I went there knowing it wasn’t going to happen. It would have been nice.”
In Minnesota, Vikings linebacker Chad Greenway showed up at Winter Park but was “cordially” informed that he would not be allowed to workout at the facility, The Star-Tribune reported.
“I went down to the weight room before I got changed and I didn’t know what was going to happen,” Greenway said. “The strength coaches were there, just getting there, and they said that they didn’t know what we could do. I was called by (vice president of football operations) Rob Brzezinski. He said, ‘You can hang out as long as you want and we want you to be around, but we don’t know what rules to go under so there’s no workouts available today’.
Sooooo, is this going to affect anything with the draft this evening or the next two days?
The league is going to let teams know tomorrow about player transactions including trades and free agency. So we might be able to shuffle orton out the door tomorrow just in time for a second round pick.
Didnt think about it that way potter. The second round is still tommorow, so he could still be traded. I doubt any trades will happen but anything is possible I suppose but I wouldnt hold my breath…
Wow, free agency trades can start as early as tomorrow.
I don’t see contracts being discussed with anyone until this cba is settled, but, I wonder how many teams are going to say “great, nfl is letting us start business as usual with our players by opening the facility, etc. in the morning, so tonight I am going to get some trades set up for picks in tomorrows and Sat. rounds.”
This I see as a possibility happening.
I know its not probable TRB, but if one of those teams that need a QB miss there chance in the 1st round we should start shopping Orton to them. One might take the bait and then all of our draft predictions are wrong!!! lol
If we can trade Orton for more picks on this years draft, I will gladly concede defeat on my picks I have entered.
CONTEST ENTRY
2-MARCELL DAREUS
36-STEPHAN PAEA
46-RYAN WILLIAMS
67-CASEY MATHEWS
HAPPY DRAFT DAY EVERYONE, IL BE HAPPY WITH DAREUS PP OR BOWERS
But in breaking news, it just says that the league has filed for the appeal with the 8th circuit court and is asking them for a stay and the decision on the stay could be rendered as soon as tomorrow. So does that mean the players go in teams’ facilities in the morning and if the stay is granted in the afternoon the players get kicked out, LMAO, it could just happen though.
Anyway at this point I don’t give a crap about all that and will keep my mind totally clear of it until tomorrow, today I have a good time party ahead of me, the draft at 7pm, that’s all that matters.
I would love getting Cinci’s 2nd rounder. We would get the 35, 36, 46 spots in the 2nd round. That would make my weekend.
