Watching the Mocks: Feb. 13

February 13th, 2012 - 1:48pm by Gray Caldwell

Just as we did last offseason, we’ll be taking a look at various mock drafts leading up to the 2012 NFL Draft.

As of today, Feb. 13, there’s a wide variety of players — seven, to be exact — that writers project Denver to take at pick No. 25. The favorite at the moment seems to be Michigan State defensive tackle Jerel Worthy.

Others see Mississippi State defensive tackle Fletcher Cox, Texas A&M quarterback Ryan Tannehill, Clemson tight end Dwayne Allen, LSU defensive tackle Michael Brockers, USC defensive end Nick Perry and Alabama safety Mark Barron.

The breakdown is below:

ESPN’s Todd McShay: Tannehill
ESPN’s Mel Kiper, Jr.: Cox
(Both McShay and Kiper’s mock drafts require ESPN Insider to view the full list)
SI.com’s Don Banks: Worthy
CBS Sports’ Rob Rang: Worthy
CBS Sports’ Dane Brugler: Allen
FOX Sports’ Peter Schrager: Brockers

NFL.com has all their mock drafts in one convenient location.

The favorite in those drafts is Worthy, who is projected as Denver’s pick in seven of the available mocks. Four see Allen headed to Denver, and two — Pat Kirwan and Dave Dameshek — project Tannehill at No. 25. Steve Wyche stands alone in his prediction of Perry, and Jason Smith is the only NFL.com writer that sees Barron as Denver’s pick.

We’ll check back in on the mock drafts several times as April 26th draws closer.

LOL @ Jarvis! Maybe it was Santana..

  2. Tide Bronco says:

Definitely. Close to Florence, in north Alabama. I have relatives there. Don’t get up that way too often anymore, but it’s pretty up there. I’ve lived in the Birmingham and mostly Montgomery areas the majority of my life, except for a short time in Atlanta. Appreciate your support of Bama!

  3. strandoftds says:

Oh yeah, forgot about Santana. Hey Carlos, bring your guitar man! LOL

  4. Tide Bronco says:

Maybe Turtle will post the link. I’d like to know too, whether it’s Jarvis or Santana.

  5. strandoftds says:

It can`t be Jarvis, he struggled for to many years with us. IMO

  6. Tide Bronco says:

Strand, I don’t think it is either, but who knows? Randy just announced yesterday that he wanted back in, so it may not be him either. And I can’t find the link that Turtle referenced. Maybe he, or someone else, will post it.

  7. OrangeTsunami says:

Of course! I always root for/defend anything Alabama, not always easy up here in NY… Btw, did u say a while ago that the Broncos never have had anyone from Bama before, or it’s just been a while?

  8. strandoftds says:

Yeah, I`m curious to say the least. If we get Tolbert or Lynch then a RB in the 2nd round is not even in the equation. Got to go defense. I`d get Rainey in the 3rd or 4th for a speedy RB and elusive Slot. Also a productive K/R.

  9. strandoftds says:

Theres Bobby Humphrey RB we got in 1989.

  10. Tide Bronco says:

OT, I said it’s been awhile. There have been two that I remember: Bobby Humphrey and Jeremiah Castille, both from the last 80′s. And currently, Ramzee Robinson is on the practice squad, as of a couple of weeks ago, but he was never a starter at Bama, so I don’t know how long he’ll last past camp.

  11. Tide Bronco says:

    *late 80′s…..

  12. Tide Bronco says:

I should have said Ramzee wasn’t a regular starter as Bama. He actually did start some games.

  13. OrangeTsunami says:

    Gotcha, thx guys.

Btw, a follow up to our earlier discussion:

  14. strandoftds says:

And of course it was Jeremiah Castille that caused (THE FUMBLE) and recovered it too against the Cleveland Browns at Mile High in the AFC Championship game to send us to another SB. Great memories.

  15. OrangeTsunami says:

    Anyone heard of Mazzone before?

  16. Tide Bronco says:

Yeah, he coached at Auburn with Tommy Tuberville for awhile, before they brought Bobby Petrino in.

  17. strandoftds says:

We got to sign Prater, Bunkley, Woodyard, M. Thomas, and Royal. Then its onto FA.

It’s down in the Blog, where 805 is talking about things… Like I said, I’m not sure this is more than rumors, but that is what is there…

I’m also assuming they meant Randy Moss… but it just says Manning and Moss… and then the next feed talks about Tolbert and Lynch coming in Next week…

  19. Bronco_Turtle says:

I post as Wyo_Turtle on that blog… just because it’s hard to talk football if you have a team name in your tag… everyone just takes you as a homer for whatever team it is…

I like to agitate the Raider Fans…

  20. DenverOrange says:

I have a few of them in my basement

  21. Bronco_Turtle says:

Hehe, Nice DO… hopefully chained to a chair watching non-stop reruns of TT’s come from behind vitories this season… every other game being a repeat of the smashing we gave them in Oaktown…?!?

  22. Tide Bronco says:

    LOL, DO.

@Turtle, I saw that one, but didn’t read the comments. Yours to R&L was hilarious. Maybe Greatness can fill us in. Wonder if he (Greatness) knows 805sosa?

  23. Tide Bronco says:

Wow! This is what 805sosa had to say:

“Peyton Manning called Randy and told him he was going to DEN because Elway is the only guy who will give him what he wants and told him that if he came outta retirement and was the old Randy that he would get him a SuperBowl if not 2 or 3. Also, Marshawn Lynch and Tolbert will be in DEN next week to discuss coming there too.”

Crazy stuff. Wonder who his info cow is. I won’t believe it until it happens.

  24. DenverOrange says:

I the history of the Denver Broncos Dvd playing nonstop.
Also I once completed a three legged race with only 2 legs Amazing!!!

  25. Tide Bronco says:

    Funny, DO.

  26. DenverOrange says:

No way is any of that True but man would that be cool

  27. millertime2 says:

I just read the 805 blog, dont know if its rumor or if its true, but if you look at how the wk is going. The timing of randy coming out of retirement and paytons going to know sometime this week if Irsay wants him or not, looks like possibly the timing could be correct but just speculation, it would be great for us thow.

  28. strandoftds says:

There`s going to be a program special on Shannon Sharpe later this week, I think its on friday night on NFLN.

  29. strandoftds says:

Manning hasn`t been released yet. The media can`t even say that Peyton Manning is going to visit the Denver Broncos. They`d be in trouble if they did. You can`t put the cart before the horse. Just football talk is all on that blog.

  30. strandoftds says:

We see what happens after Manning is cut. But the FA RB`s Tolbert and Lynch, now thats a different tun Both of those RB`s are only 26 years old too, young bucks.

  31. millertime2 says:

Yah just speculation but even if we just got the 2 RB that would be nice

  32. Tide Bronco says:

Crazy football talk at that, Strand. And the media hasn’t said anything about where Peyton is going that I’m aware of. Just that blogger, 805.

I like and admire Peyton, but nobody knows how long before his nerves will regenerate and when he’ll be able to throw effectively again. Besides that, I can’t imagine him promising Randy Moss 2 or 3 Super Bowls, when he only has the one win in 2007, in the 14 years he’s been in the NFL, and only one other appearance in 2009. Like I said, crazy stuff.

  33. strandoftds says:

I don`t even think Peyton and Randy have each others phone #s. They probably don`t talk to each other. LOL

  34. strandoftds says:

I only see us going after one RB, either one is cool by me.

  35. strandoftds says:

For all we know Peyton Manning may never recover fully from the surgery. If his velocity is shot, then Mannings career is over. A QB has to make all of the throws to be productive in the NFL. Manning might be force to hang up his cleats.

  36. 1nOnlyTRB says:

Lions and tigers and bears oh my. The plot thickens. Good ol none lock out offseason. Speculations out the wazzu

    Later days TRB

  37. OrangeTsunami says:

Maybe it’s just me, but I would be completed shocked if we sign any big name FA, hasn’t really been our MO as an organization. I could see a Tolbert or Bush signing, but not a Lynch signing for example

  38. strandoftds says:

Breaking News: Jim Irsay wants to work out a deal with Peyton Manning to stay in Indianapolis.

  39. strandoftds says:

So march 8th is the NFL deadline to cut players by this date to save against a teams Salary cap. In other words if the Broncos do cut Goody, they have until March 8th to do so.

  40. OrangeTsunami says:

Why wait until the 8th, just cut him now! Quit avoiding the inevitable!

  41. OrangeTsunami says:

    Goody is Gonzo….

  42. strandoftds says:

So if Peyton Manning wants to stay with Indianaplis, he has to agree to a restructured contract and no 28 million bonus. That money is out the window. The contract will be based on how healthy he is with the surgery and the regeneration-fusion heals.

  43. OrangeTsunami says:

Btw, the decision to put Warren on the IR and not save a roster spot for him has not been discussed by anyone that I can see… I’m not sure if he would have been available come playoff time, or if he would’ve made a difference, but I’m kinda of surprised no articles have discussed this..

  44. 1nOnlyTRB says:

Hate to burst bubbles, but neither are coming. Our best shot at a FA is if the original team doesn’t want em cuz we are not outspending anyone. Raiders have already said they would make it a priority to sign back bush. And who can blame em, as good as mcfadden is he gets hurt every year and bush filled in mighty nice last yr. Ryan Matthews is coming along but is still raw and suffers from fumblitis at times, not to mention injured alot. They also utilize tolbert a lot. The lost sproles but I doubt they give up tolbert. And finally lynch who wants to be a hawk and who da hawks plan on locking down, which is fine cuz he has some character concerns that new administraion may not be down with. I did want him over maroney tho. So the chances are slim. Back to the draft and maybe hillis cuz his team doesn’t want him

  45. strandoftds says:

The Denver Broncos hired a new Capologist this week. He`ll make the decisions along with EFX on what Contacts are structured correctly and what contracts aren`t. Who stays and who goes. He starts this week from what I read in the DP this morning. They`ll figure it out in a matter of a few days to a few weeks.

  46. strandoftds says:

TRB, there might be truth to what your saying, call it a players comfort-zone or familararity to the team he knows. Theres a franchize tag that can be placed on them also. But if they remain FA`s, money talks.

  47. OrangeTsunami says:

Well, let’s see what this new capologist has to say about Goodman, b/c it’s a horrible contract for a mediocre, aging player… Cut Goodman, and this new guy would be off to a great start in my eyes!

  48. OrangeTsunami says:

I hear what you’re saying TRB, and I’m not suggesting that it will happen, I was just saying both Bush and Tolbert are mid level RB’s IMO, whereas Lynch has to be considered close to elite after the last few seasons, and I don’t see us going out and signing any elite players in FA

  49. strandoftds says:

Goody will be cut, its the inevitable. A young up and coming CB can do just as good as Goody but younger, quicker, you name it. Goody is 34 and way to expensive against the books.
