Watching the Mocks: Feb. 13

February 13th, 2012 - 1:48pm by Gray Caldwell

Just as we did last offseason, we’ll be taking a look at various mock drafts leading up to the 2012 NFL Draft.

As of today, Feb. 13, there’s a wide variety of players — seven, to be exact — that writers project Denver to take at pick No. 25. The favorite at the moment seems to be Michigan State defensive tackle Jerel Worthy.

Others see Mississippi State defensive tackle Fletcher Cox, Texas A&M quarterback Ryan Tannehill, Clemson tight end Dwayne Allen, LSU defensive tackle Michael Brockers, USC defensive end Nick Perry and Alabama safety Mark Barron.

The breakdown is below:

ESPN’s Todd McShay: Tannehill
ESPN’s Mel Kiper, Jr.: Cox
(Both McShay and Kiper’s mock drafts require ESPN Insider to view the full list)
SI.com’s Don Banks: Worthy
CBS Sports’ Rob Rang: Worthy
CBS Sports’ Dane Brugler: Allen
FOX Sports’ Peter Schrager: Brockers

NFL.com has all their mock drafts in one convenient location.

The favorite in those drafts is Worthy, who is projected as Denver’s pick in seven of the available mocks. Four see Allen headed to Denver, and two — Pat Kirwan and Dave Dameshek — project Tannehill at No. 25. Steve Wyche stands alone in his prediction of Perry, and Jason Smith is the only NFL.com writer that sees Barron as Denver’s pick.

We’ll check back in on the mock drafts several times as April 26th draws closer.

Bay was a very polarizing personality, whenever his name is mentioned and arguement always ensues. Time heals all wounds. Looking forward to the start of free agency, it will be interesting to see who we resign and who we pick up. Like most, I expect FA young players with a bright future that haven’t been getting playing time because their teams are deep at their position to be signed. Both our kickers won’t be going anywhere , they are key to the field position battle. After that who knows, the one thing I can say is the fan perspective is usually to some degree completely off base compared to the coaches and staff. The things we don’t know about players are usually bigger in signing decisions than what information gets out to us fans. Go Broncos!

Morning Folks. Turns out Tebow has worked with Noel Mazzone before his pro-day in 2010. I remembered him working with Zeke Bratkowski, but had forgotten about Mazzone. He and Tebow share the same agent in Jimmy Sexton. Here’s an old ESPN article about it for anyone interested.

Yes it’s true Tebow is in Cali right now. The 3.0 version will be here come training camp!!!!

  5. 1nOnlyTRB says:

One can only hope. Im a believer and i sure have put my credibility (wateva little i have) on the line when it comes to Tebow on here and amongst all my football knowledgeable friends.

All the agruing and bickering from supposidly Bronco family is ridiculous, this blog is going downhill fast!!!

    No wonder Bay quit!

    GO BRONCOS!!!!!!!!!

  7. Bronco_Turtle says:

    Morning Broncsters!

sndvl, that is crazy you were born in Rawlins… Did you live there very long?

  8. Bronco_Turtle says:

    http://espn.go.com/blog/afcnorth/post/_/id/42417/keeping-tabs-on-quarterback-ryan-tannehill

Finally someone in Browns camp has said something Really Intelligent… Draft Blackmon with your number 4 pick, and take Tannehill at 22…

Give your fans a little glimmer of hope… Please… we know you are really the same old Browns so RGIII will be your pick, but I wouldn’t wish that on any franchise, especially one that has been in the ‘Doghouse’ since its rebirth in the late ’90s…

  9. sndvl says:

    Morning Broncos Country!

    What’s up BFE?!

Turtle, we moved when I was 5. But me and my 2 brothers were born there and a few of my cousins. My grandfather had a high position at one of the coal mines and gave his son in law (my dad) a job. That’s the story!!! Haven’t been back since I was 8 years old.

  10. Bronco_Turtle says:

    :o

Nice Sndvl! I had many family members that worked in those mines!

There has been talk of adding a Coal Gasification plant near Hanna, so this area could have a population boom same as they did in the late ’70′s… It is really much quieter country since most of the mines have been shut down…

  11. sndvl says:

Lol, I think this is getting out of hand…

Katy Perry got the cold shoulder and Kim Kardashian the Heisman, but maybe young Jamie Walden will have better luck with Tim Tebow.

Walden, a 20-year-old active-duty member of the Air Force, has asked the Broncos QB to accompany her to April’s 2012 Military Ball in Shreveport, La.

“I would be the luckiest and happiest girl if you were to say ‘Yes’ and be my date,” Jamie pleads in a YouTube proposal that’s pulled in more than 150,000 views in just over a week.

The video missive comes complete with gentle pressure from Jamie’s fellow airmen and — look out — her mother, who makes it clear there’s only one right answer to this question.

“I snagged a few people on their free time just to come out and help me,” Walden told KSLA-TV in Shreveport. “They’re all supportive of it. They know my crush on him.”

Walden told the station that Tebow would be a good match for a military woman because they share the same values: “Integrity, excellence in all we do and service before self — and he portrays that in his character.”

(Side note: If Tebow, for some reason, doesn’t accept, good luck to the guy filling those shoes. Nightmarish friend-zone scenario.)

Tebow wouldn’t be the first celebrity to attend a military hoedown. Justin Timberlake, Mila Kunis and even Kristin Cavallari have traveled down this road.

    Ball’s in your court, Tim.

  12. shaztah says:

Hey Greatness what does that mean when you say 3.0?

  13. shaztah says:

Notice that her values don’t say a faith in God or virginity LOL. If he did go it would be to support our service men.

  14. Bronco_Turtle says:

Shaz… Greatness was referring to a Headline that was made when Tebow had his Pro Day… It said something to the affect of Tebow 2.0 to be revealed at Pro Day… So now this is the new and improved 3.0 version!!! :)

  15. Atwater4HOF says:

Highly doubt we’ll go for any top flight FA’s. Guys like Rice, Williams, etc. will likely be franchised. Plus, they’ve had great success with their current teams and would rather stay then take a chance in a new scheme and new team.

Grimes from Atlanta would be my dream FA pickup if he does not get resigned or franchised. The kid is a stud.

In reference to the current blog, I am a huge fan of Brockers from LSU but I do not believe he will be available at our current draft pick. I’ll take a stab at my pre-combine mock draft here in a moment.

The Draft is such an exciting time of the year, I love it.

  16. Atwater4HOF says:

    http://www.draftsite.com/nfl/mock-draft/2012

Here is a full 7 round mock for anyone who is interested. It’s tough to find more than a first round mock now a days.

  17. Atwater4HOF says:

Round 1- Stephon Gilmore CB South Carolina
Round 2- Alameda Ta’amu DT Washington (6’3 348lbs) <<< That's some beef for ya lol
Round 3- Chandler Jones DE Syracuse
Round 4- Isiah Pead RB Cincinnati
Round 5- Tommy Streeter WR Miami
Round 5- Kellen Moore QB Boise State
Round 7- Janzen Jackson CB McNeese State

    2 CB's
    2 Dlinemen
    QB
    RB
    WR

I think that fairly addresses our need positions as well as develops depth at WR, RB, and QB

Kellen Moore is nice since he is a lefty like Tebow. If he were to come in for an injured Tebow the Oline would still be protecting the same blind side and WRs wouldn't have to adjust to the ball spinning the opposite way from a righty.

  18. Atwater4HOF says:

I am really excited about Pead from Cincy. I’ve seen him rough up my Mountaineers plenty of times. Great size/speed combo and underrated in pass protection

  19. Bronco_Turtle says:

The Bucs just released Fat Albert… I still think we should bring him in and Let FoxaRio tune him up… He can change 10 snaps a game if he’s motivated… a Veteran’s Minimum Salary should get him motivated… I’d be for signing him… HE IS BEEF!!!

    BRING ON THE BEEF!!!!

  20. Bronco_Turtle says:

Atwater… I really like the Streeter pick at 5a… I had just got to the film of him a couple days ago, and I really think he can contribute as a Rookie… I hope he is still available then, and he should be

  21. Atwater4HOF says:

Yea I caught a couple of Miami games this year and he is a burner. With Tebow’s ability to extend plays DBs will have a tough time keeping up with him.

  22. Atwater4HOF says:

    Correction: Janzen Jackson S/DB

  23. 1nOnlyTRB says:

Once upon a time, I woulda been down with the haynesworth thing but lets face it, the guys a hack, i mean, he makes guys like Moss and TO seem like class acts. In the past like 3 years he has been on 3 different teams and the complaints have been the same. The guy should just retire.

HOF, interesting mock, last I checked tho Janzen Jackson was a safety. Used to play for BFEs Vols opposite the 5th dimension before being dismissed. Heard he is still a safety in McNeese and had a great year. Word is he might go as early as 3rd because of a week Safety class. Personal interviews will make or break him. Much like my boy Burfict. I like streeter. I like your mock. My mock looks more like a combination of yours and that link u posted. Hoping For Still, Brockers or Dre Kirk at 25, 2nd round is all doug martin. Janzen Jackson in like the 3rd or 4th. Draft time rocks.

    TRB

  24. 1nOnlyTRB says:

ahh, i see u corrected the Janzen thing. TRB

  25. Atwater4HOF says:

    Thanks TRB-

Yea Jackson is interesting. Position wise I’ve read he may fit better as a CB but either way his versatility to play anywhere in the defensive backfield would be great for us. I’ve seen him anywhere from 4th to the 7th round and like you said, his interviews will make or break him.

You like Martin over a guy like Pead? I haven’t seen much tape on Martin so i’ll have to check him out.

Brockers would be my ideal first rounder but Kiper has him going top 10 now. Same with Dre, if either of them are available I’d be thrilled. I’m a big fan of Gilmore because he is an excellent tackler, very strong CB class this year

  26. Bronco_Turtle says:

Does Gilmore have the 1 on 1 cover skills to be a number 2 corner? I have read that he is more of a Zone defense kind of guy, that closes well on the ball and like you said is an excellent tackler… I haven’t seen alot on him…

TRB, I think Haynesworth is worth a Vet’s Min contract… worst we can do is cut him. We have good character leaders on this team like Dawk and TT so I think maybe they could motivate him… like I said before it’s all about him being motivated and if what I read about him losing most of his money is anywhere close to true, it sounds like he is about to be financially motivated again…

  27. Bronco_Turtle says:

Hey Atwater, that Mock you posted has Donta Hightower going number 47…

Do you think he will last that long?

  28. collies10 says:

Where is Bay folks?? Have I missed something?

  29. Greatness007 says:

Thanks Bronco_Turtle for telling Shaz what I meant. I had other matter to attend too. I didn’t see his post till now. I don’t wanna offend anymore people on here. Seem like it’s getting personal on this blog. I didn’t think you could quit a blog. I thought it was a choice not a job. Oh well…

Rainer or Demps take ur pick. One is coming to Denver, so which would you rather have??

  30. Greatness007 says:

I don’t think TT can handle Haynesworth. If a owner and coach can’t. What make u think a player can?? lol

  31. millertime2 says:

@ Collies Bay decided to quit the blog because he was offended.

  32. Greatness007 says:

Just think if Demaryius would have did the combine. Maybe Tebow or him might not be on this team.

  33. sndvl says:

Greatness, you need to dish out some more info on this Rainer or Demps poll….first names? Positions? College of FAs?….lol, then I can give my opinion that few will care about :)

  34. millertime2 says:

@sndvl found some info on Demps 5’8 183 out of Florida projected 7th rd didnt find Rainer, I found acouple Raineys. Read Atwater4HOF 10:57 Blog

  35. millertime2 says:

    jeffery demps

  36. millertime2 says:

couple guys that might be probable, whitney mercilus DE 6’4 265 out of Illinois, I know Fox doesnt like DTs for some reason. But if we do get one another prospect could be Jared Cricic DT Nebraska 6’6 285 we need tall pass rushers to knock down passes in the lanes. New York did that all yr.

Denver Broncos Free Agents To Let Go
Published: 14th Feb 12 11:31 am by Mark Stringer
Denver Broncos RANT It! Ron Chenoy USPRESSWIRE
This is a list of Denver Broncos free agents that I feel they should not sign back for the 2012 season.

    Marcus Thomas-

He has been a bust since day one when he was drafted in the 4th round of the 2007 draft. He was projected a 1st rounder, but fell to the 4th round after some character issues at Florida. He did play in almost all the games this season and recorded 43 tackles and no sacks. The only way we keep him is if we’re in desperate need on the defensive line, which we may be. He was payed $1 million in 2011.

    Brian Dawkins-

He is 38 and has played in 16 NFL seasons. He does however have a little left in the tank, especially in run support. He is still a leader in the secondary. He is on this list only if injuries linger in the offseason and if he’s not willing to play for less than the $6 million he played for this season. He recorded 51 tackles, 3 sacks, and forced a fumble in 2011.

    Mario Haggan-

He started in 1 game and played in all 16 games, but only managed to record 23 tackles. He is a decent utility LB who can play all LB positions. He is one that if the money is right I may would try to keep. He was paid $1.9 million last season.

    Derrick Harvey-

He’s a DE that came over from Jacksonville this season when Jacksonville gave up on him after drafting him in 2008 in the 1st round. He played in parts of 5 games and managed 4 tackles and 0 sacks. He just hasn’t produced.

    Brady Quinn-

Lets face it; if your starting QB had to be Brady Quinn because of injury how would you feel about your chances for the playoffs? Denver must cut him and find a more capable starter to push QB Tim Tebow. Quinn made $700K last season.

    Dante Rosario-

He started in 3 games and played in 14 while he recorded 7 receptions for 117 yards. He was brought over when his former coach at Carolina, John Fox came to Denver. He was supposed to help as a passing threat, but that didn’t happen and fellow TE Daniel Fells is a more balanced TE. We need to let him go.

    Jonathan Wilhite-

He was signed mostly because of some injuries at the corner position. He is a below average option at the position. He did however manage 2 sacks and an INT, but he’s not worth keeping.

    Wesley Woodyard-

Wesley is a LB who started in 7 games and played in 15. He is 25 and has 4 years of experience. He recorded 97 tackles and 2 fumbles forced. This is why I think his asking price may go up. He may see himself as a starter and want to get paid like one. If not and he’s willing to be reasonable I say keep him.

  38. BroncoRenegade says:

IM looking at OLB zach brown falling from the top line backer spot on nfl network and to me his playing style reminds me of von miller and has good cover skills when time to drop back I say that this guy would be a steal if we can pick him up. DJ needs to go back to middle and this guy wesley can compete if not share that OLB spot.

  39. BroncoRenegade says:

    *and wesley.

  40. Bones1965 says:

    My Mock Draft

    #1 Micheal Brockers DT LSU
    #2 Chase Minnifield CB Virginia
    #3 Joe Adams WR
    #4 Ladrius Green TE La-Lafayette

  41. Bones1965 says:

    #5 Aaron Corp QB Richmond
    #5 Jaye Howard DE Florida

  42. Bones1965 says:

#7 Gerell Robinson WR Ariz State

  43. broncoslifer07 says:

I def think we need a disruptive D-lineman, but Haynesworth over the last 3 years has been awful, the highest paid defensive player and hes gonna cry about his position, we dont need that.

What about taking Alabama safety Barron in the 1st round if hes available? I think Worthy or Brockers would also be solid, but if we resign Bunkley we may find some great value in 2nd-4th rounds, and who knows who we pick up in FA. But Barron could be the next Ed Reed or Troy Palomalu, i dont see Rahim Moore developing to that level, however, i do think Quintin Carter was a steal for us in the 4th last year, and Moore and a RB in late rounds is a great idea.

  44. dlmyers says:

    Trade down from #25 scenarios; What happens if Ryan Tannehill is available at #25? Does Denver select this top prospect or trade with;
Washington – If they miss out on Peyton Manning, Matt Flynn, Robert Griffin, they’ll have to either trade down from No. 6 or move up from no. 38 to acquire Ryan Tannehill.
Jacksonville – at no. 7 do they take BPA or focus on Gabbert shortcomings. Same question at no. 38.
Miami – at no. 8 do they have Manning, Flynn or a plan for no. 42
Philadelphia – It’s very possible that the Eagles will spend a Day 2 selection on a quarterback. Their current starter will be 32 soon, while Mike Kafka is just backup material.
New York – the front office may spend a Day 2 selection on a quarterback to provide some competition.
Denver then can select the following, with the Round & Time
*Stephon Gilmore CB South Carolina Jr 6-1 193 2 4.52
*Brock Osweiler QB Arizona State Jr 6-7 240 2-3 4.83
    *Bernard Pierce RB Temple Jr 6-0 218 3 4.59
*Marcus Forston DT Miami (Fla.) rJr 6-3 300 2-3 4.95

  45. JWestbrook says:

I’d like to see our offseason go like this.

Use our 1st round pick on Jerel Worthy, 2nd round pick on a QB who’s good enough to be backup, 3rd round pick on a CB and 4+ picks on depth for O-line, a safety and a TE.

In FA, sign Marshawn Lynch a nice, fat contract. McGahee is too old to rush 1000 yards again and I don’t think Ball has developed enough to be starter. And Moreno will get injured again. Also sign another quality corner and resign Mays, McBean, and the other LB I can’t think of right now, along with Jason Hunter. Everyone else isn’t worth resigning.

  46. alaskanbronco06 says:

    My bronco FA wishlist
Ryan Grant OR Marshawn Lynch RB
    Le’Ron McClain FB
Jermichael Finley OR Fred Davis TE
    Dwayne Bowe WR
    Jared Gaither OT
Ben Grubbs OR Carl Nicks OG
    Calais Cambell OR Cliff Avril
Curtis Lofton OR D’Qwell Jackson LB
Brandon Carr OR Aaron Ross CB

I would say Flynn to motivate Tebow but he will be picked up by a team who needs a QB and as for Mario Williams I would love to see him in a Bronco Uniform but I dont think Kubiak and the rest of the FO for Huston will let him leave. I also thing that the should think about a trade for Asante Samuel. We need a upgrade for Goodman. I swear the last two years any big pass play Goodman was the one who was supposed to cover.

    Resign
    Bunkley DT
    Dawkins S
    Hunter DE
    Mays LB
    Prater K
    Royal WR
    Woodyard LB

    My Draft

It all depends on who is available at that pick and who we signed in FA for the lower rounds a pick that fell a down the board to the following round would be a nice choice.

    Round 1
i would love for Quinton Coples To fall to 25 but i doubt he will.
So Fletcher Cox, Jarel Worthy, or Zach Brown.

    Round 2
Chis Polk RB Washington, Vontaze Burfict, ILB, Arizona State University, Chase Minnifield, CB, Virginia, Andre Branch, DE, Clemson, Trumaine Johnson, CB/FS, Montana

    Round 3
Alshon Jeffery, WR, South Carolina, Stephon Gilmore, CB, South Carolina, Doug Martin, RB, Boise State Brandon Boykin, CB Georgia, Tyrone Crawford, DE/DT, Boise State, Billy Winn, DT, Boise State

    Round 4
Joe Adams, WR , Arkansas, Brandon Weeden, QB Oklahoma State, Dwight Jones, WR, North Carolina, Josh Kaddu, DE/OLB, Oregon, Kheeston Randall, DE/DT, Texas

    Round 5
James-Michael Johnson, MLB Nevada, Donte Paige-Moss, DE/OLB, North Carolina, Josh Robinson, CB/KR, Central Florida, Dan Herron, Running Back, Ohio State, Jaye Howard, Defensive End, Florida, Ryan Miller, Offensive Guard, Colorado

    Round 6
    No Pick

    Round 7
Olivier Vernon, DE Miami, Derek Wolfe, Defensive End, Cincinnati, Garrick Williams, Inside Linebacker, Texas A&M, Moe Petrus, Center, Connecticut, Terrence Frederick, Cornerback, Texas A&M, Sammy Brown, Outside Linebacker, Houston.
