Watch Matt Willis on American Ninja Warrior

August 2nd, 2011 - 11:04am by Max Henson

As an NFL wide receiver, Matt Willis possesses tremendous agility and strength.

Often, Willis utilizes those abilities on the football field as a member of the Denver Broncos, but this offseason Willis decided to test his skills somewhere else… as a ninja.

A ninja warrior, that is.

Willis said he occasionally watches the American Ninja Warrior television show on G4 and he always came away impressed with the participants. Willis also has a passion for obstacle courses and physical challenges, so when the opportunity presented itself to join the show in Venice, Calif., Willis jumped on it.

“My brother-in-law — he plays water polo for the U.S. National Team — and he got a call from a lady involved in the show and I was with him at the time,” Willis explained. “And I got all excited and told him to sign me up.

“Then I got the opportunity to do it.”

Willis was happy to report that he successfully maneuvered his way through the initial challenge, but his time on the show ended there.

“I completed the first part and then they take the top 30 times and do an extended version,” Willis said. “I didn’t make it that far, but I’m proud I made it through the first part.”

Now, Willis is back to work on the football field, but when asked if he’d be interested in an obstacle challenge among NFL players, Willis was quick to respond.

“Absolutely, I’d be the first one to sign up,” he said. “I have a buddy who is a Navy Seal and I’m trying to get him to sneak me onto the base so I can do their obstacle course. I love that kind of stuff.”

Below is the video from Willis’ time on the Ninja Warrior program:

The main difference between you and I is you are mainly optimistic so that you can wait for one time to be right, and I am somehow often looking at what is bad so I don’t get disappointed yet again when nothing goes right. Different approaches, mine is much easier on me than if I used yours, all that can happen is great elation if the team performs above my expectations and absolutely no disappointment if nothing goes right. After being as hardcore a fan as I have been since 1974, I probably added at least ten years to my life with my approach than if I used yours, just me.

Anyone here anything about a three team trade (eagles & Redskins) for Orton?
Or is this just a rumor with nothing Factual to base it on?

Osi for a 2nd round pick next year, jump on it EFX!!!!!!!!!

We spent two 1st round picks on Ayers and Moss!

As far as Asante Samuel goes,if we can get him,we should definitely do so!

For everybody who wants Orton out to clear the way for Tebow, Sam Wyche (NFL.com), offers his cautionary tale…
Denver : If it ends up being Tim Tebow time with the Broncos, it means Orton is out of the mix and Brady Quinn moves into the backup role. We’ve already seen what Quinn can do and that is why he’s really not in the “competition” to be the starter.

Haha. Profootballtalk.com is reporting that at training camp the Dolphins fans were chanting “We want Orton.” They also said that Denver players and staff want Orton to stay but it is the fans that want him to go.

  6. Yovi21 says:

I’m sure no one in Denver thinks Tebow can out perform Orton as a traditional QB at this point, but let me tell you why I would like us to trade Orton…If we keep Orton this season I’d say the most we can hope for is a 9-7 run (sorry but no one can deny this is a rebuilding year) after that I would bet my paycheck that Orton will split, leaving us with a handful of questions on Tebow and a year behind…that would inevitably turn 2012 into yet another rebuilding year. That means we probably won’t see the playoffs until 2013 at the soonest!

If we start Tebow now we can watch his development through the season and really find out if he has that franchise quarterback in him…if he does we can build off of it…if he doesn’t we can use the pick we get for Orton and maybe some other picks to trade down and get Luck.

As a Broncos fan, I would much rather watch Tebow build in a losing season than watch Orton be ordinary in an average season….all im saying is that unless we are really considering Orton a potential franchise QB (God forbid) then we need to move on with the future!

We are chasing our tail right now! Get on it!

  7. O&BinCostaRica says:

VERY well said Yovi21! That is what a lot of us think.

  8. baylinorcrush says:

Yeah, it’s like he’s paying attention, well worded.

  9. xRAY says:

I agree its just we want to see what Tebow can bring to the table whether he is better or not.

  10. BroncWild says:

Man the eagles are looking better and better. They just signed Ronnie Brown to a one year deal.

  11. O&BinCostaRica says:

It isn’t about winning now, it’s about building to consistently win in the future.

  12. Puluke53 says:

Orton is far better than everyone is giving him credit for! Fix the DEFENSE!
Create a run oriented offense and Orton will kill with accuracy and reads!

  13. Dumervilfan15 says:

Yovi21 im sorry dude but unless we win 0 games there is no way in hell we could ever get luck cause no one will give up a number 1 overall selection and this isn’t a rebuilding year more like a year after a bad one that all we needed was a few missing pieces and a much better coach i think we’ll be a dark horse and maybe make the playoffs all i really care about is beating the damn raiders twice

  14. baylinorcrush says:

This is exactly what was said:

“this isn’t a rebuilding year more like a year after a bad one that all we needed was a few missing pieces and a much better coach”

Just had to post that since some things just blow my mind on here!!!!

  15. baylinorcrush says:

LMAO, he did it for me, hahahahaha, too funny.

  16. baylinorcrush says:

    Oooops, wrong blog

  17. broncofanatic66 says:

Just cut Orton and get the 7 or 9 mill or whatever his contract is worth freed up. Can’t stand Orton! Even though Tebow is not doing as well in TC put him in there at starter. He’s clutch and a gamer. Orton is the anti-clutch.

  18. Broncos Born & Raised says:

    3:35pm – too funny Bay!

  19. 1nOnlyTRB says:

Matt WIllis is only 27. Wow nice. Enjoyed that. Jap version is funnier but this was cool too. Hope he makes the Squad. We did not need Anderson. We have, Lloyd, Royal, Decker, Willis, and … Dell lol. Well guess anderson wouldn’t hurt but if we count Bay Bay thats 6. TRB out…

  20. orygunbronco says:

I just want Jeremiah Johnson to make the RB squad he is a powerhouse. And obviously from the Ducks… I thought that Willis looked winded on that course like he was in need of some cardio… just my opinion.

  21. BroncosFan Duh says:

I like hearing about the broncos but i hate hearing them talk about the same old things, i like the traditional school of thought, let um battle it out over training camp and preseason then take the better qb, Ortons gone next year anyway, tebow could really use another year to develop, he was a rookie last year and went through some mechanics changes, all that said trade orton for good value if offered only time will help that, and if tebow plays the remaining games if we’re out of a playoff hunt ill take that.

  22. alexanserg says:

Starting to resign myself to watching another year of Orton playing. So, I wonder, if we lose the first couple games will Orton get benched? Are we gonna have a QB carousel like a few teams did last year? All three QBs gonna start a game or two?

Honestly, if we have a good defense and a good running game this year, maybe any one of our QBs could win in Fox’s system. So if Orton starts all year, and we end up go 9-7, making the playoffs, and maybe even winning a playoff game, Orton will have won me back.

Perhaps the most likely (if not slightly optimistic) outcome is that Orton starts. With what should be a greatly improved defense (moving back to a 4-3 which better suits our Dline personnel, the addition of Rahim Moore, Von Miller, and the return of DOOM, and the architect of the Saints’ leading defense in Dennis Allen, with Fox as the new defensively oriented HC) and greatly Improved run game (addition of O. Franklin, Walton and Beatles should be better with a year under their belts, Addition of McGahee, Moreno should improve, and Fannin may just be a star in the making) Orton should be good enough to win games. But his body will break down at the end of the season like it has every year he has started, Tebow will probably play at the end of the season. Maybe even in a playoff game.

Sorry bout the wall of text. Go Broncos!!!
