Kyle Orton’s performance at Tennessee last Sunday earned him a spot in the running for FedEx Air Player of the Week. Cast your votes here.
Orton completed 70 percent of his passes against the Titans, threw for 341 yards and two touchdowns and posted a 93.8 quarterback rating. With 1:33 remaining in the game, Orton hit Correll Buckhalter on a 6-yard touchdown pass to give his team the lead.
His output in Tennessee bumped him ahead of Philip Rivers for the most passing yards in the NFL and sustained the Broncos’ status as the No. 1 ranked passing offense in the league.
Orton’s 1,419 passing yards are the second-highest total through four games in NFL history. Only Kurt Warner produced more passing yards in that time span with the Rams in 2000.

He’s got my vote!
If the voters put more importance on the numbers than the passer rating Orton should win that, Rivers did have an impressive passer rating of 148.1 but made only 15 passes to Orton’s 35 with 100 less yards and Bradford who is in the running also had less impressive numbers. Orton should get it.
And I also voted for Hillis in the players on the ground voting/ same place.
Man i thought our special teams play was horrible. how about the dolphins, man lol. goes without saying that the coach just got fired lol
and im sure people know by now. Marshawn lynch is a Seahawk for the equivalent price of a 4th round pick…be patient and shop around more next time McD, not just ex-patriots lol
Ps: voted for Orton and Hillis as well. Im just so proud of him. Glad he finally got his shot and took it and ran with it….literally. woulda been great if that shot was with us but ehn. Now people can now name a starting white running back in the league (cuz we had this convo in offseason) and his name is Peyton Hillis
voted for orton… and hillis. how could i not! still wish he was a bronco. would be a huge help now!
oh well..
Never wanted to get rid of Hillis. I still think it was a dumb trade.
btw… any word on moreno? is he going to practice this week? i hope so cuz if i have to match maroney bounce around for another loss i may be sick!
keep on buckin broncos
THE BATTLE IS WON IN THE TRENCHES
Ortons and Hillis both got my vote too!!!!!!!!
I thought Arian Foster 16-131yds 1 td and 8.2 yds per rush should’ve been on the ballot tho.
Hope Moreno and Larsen both are able to go Sunday.
pdp… i, and dare i say MOST, broncos fans feel the same way. i would maybe feel different if quinn was starting and having orton type success but he has been nothing but a clip board holder so far! i mean in all honesty i dont see him as EVER being anything other than a back up! even if orton goes down this year (pray to god that doesnt happen!!!) do you really think McD would rather start quinn over tebow? i dont. so basically we traded a quality power back (which, as baylin has pointed out many many times, we dont have and are in great need of) for a back up QB. things that make ya go hmmmm…
not much to be done about it now but i wonder if mcd would do it the same way if he could go back in time. the world will never know!
ya bfe me too! anyone else think maybe we should try using larson as our power back on short yardage situations? couldnt be worse than maroney’s consistent stops for loss!
well said rayjr. if quinn was startign and having orton type success i think we would get over it. But a powerback was still much needed than a QB. But whatever McD wants McD gets and he wanted his project and didnt want Hillis. Dumb but oh well. And yes, Most hated the trade but didnt mind since Hillis wasnt getting shots around these parts.
As far as Moreno, Coach is hopefully he will practice this week and be ready to go on sunday. It was breaking news in my fantasy cuz i have moreno.
Orton and the Broncos D” just got a lot of Love from the guys on Playbook people are starting to talk good about Denver.
Go Redskins
Olap has a soul!!! A little of Bronco soul left in him… And I thought he was a lost case…. I was ready to call him Slap Olap, but I will hold back now, LOL.
BFE: Read a story about Arian Foster. Born and raised in Albuquerque NM. His Father Carl Foster was a WR for UNM. Arian was told at Valley High School in Abq that he was not a RB, and they had him at different position. Moved to California and of course later played for the Volunteers.
Coach Kubiak found a gem in Foster for his system.
Hey Ray, sorry I have been so redundant about our need for power backs since the beginning of the year. It’s just that I felt so strongly we were so inadequately set with our backs personel, it was such a glaring need to me, it’s just like this huge wart on the tip of someone’s nose, I couldn’t take my eyes off it, LOL.
McD does have a mind of his own and loves to follow whatever idea he has but hates to even give a thought to what the masses think even when, scary thought for him, they might be right. Also known as arrogance, immaturity, stubborness or any other silly character set backs like that he has demonstrated he has here many times over already. But Bowlen is a nice man, so are we fans, and here we are still giving him the benefit of the doubt, hoping he can mature and resolve those inner negative traits so the excellent football man that he is can be exploited to its fullest and bring us back to the promised land.
I wonder if he realizes how lucky he is to be with the Broncos, from Bowlen to the fans, some of the nicest and most forgiving folks you’ll ever meet, he better or he might end up with the Raiders or in Philadelphia or with either team in New York, where they don’t put up with shennanigans like the Hillis kind very long. Count your blessings and make us proud McD, the way your team responded Sunday is a good start, but if you don’t find that running game the honeymoon maybe short lived.
See I can say stuff like this because I have been soooo nice and positive about the team and McD the last couple of days, I earned this one, LOL.
NFL network states Kyle Orton is on pace to throw for 5,676 yards, well beyond Dan Marino’s NFL mark of 5,084.
Orton and Hillis got my vote!
@ trb… ya ive got him too! so im hopin he can go. either way i doubt he will be 100% so i dont think he will be on my starting roster except as a flex player.
@ bay… no worries man. i didnt agree with you at the beginning of the season. i really thought that moreno was going to be awesome this year! still could be i guess but he HAS to find a way to stay healthy!!! regardless, im definately on the power back train at this point! next year will be good with white back i would think.
@ royal….. wow!! could you imagine if orton did that? talk about a QB controversy next year!
that does bring up an interesting question. what if kyle DOES have that kind of season? and a similar season next year? what do you guys think would happen with tebow? i still really want to see him run our offense but how can you justify it? lol
Funny thing about Foster is Kubiak had demoted him for the game and he did not start, not sure what that was about but Foster was said to be uneasy about it and did something about it on the field later, wish McD could of used the same trick with Hillis Kubiak did with Foster, but I think we all know Kubiak and McD are about as opposite character wise as they come, mellow Kubiak mad McD. It’s like Kubiak has a real nice 5 star open air dog pen right by the house were you can be sent to collect your thoughts when troubles show up, but McD has this real nasty looking doghouse way in the back of the property with no windows and a lock on the door, and once you’re in it’s see you never bad dog, LOL.
As much as I pleaded Ortons case, I have equally begged the entire offseason for Larsen to see more time on the field. LB or Powerback. Well, we certainly need help in one glaring area. Ha! Heck, who’s the biggest guy on our team? Line him up back there. Ok just kidding. But I’m serious about Larsen.
Get Healthy, GO BRONCOS 2K10!! Brawl in Baltimore
Btw, too bad Lendale got hurt. He was scheduled to be reinstated this week. Just as we sorely need him
ya and Vick is the security guard!
Honestly I don’t think it’s the backs fault. The line can not open up holes, and there were many times where D backs were in the backfield before the hand off. Nobody is going to be able to be productive under those circumstances. In addition, the play calling is so obvious that the entire D knows its going to be a running play, and they stack the box.
Doghouse. Haunted house. Creepy visual. Why isn’t Maroney in it. Lol
17-16 Denver.
@ mandiego… HA!! funny!
ya bay i guess i will make a pick too… lets see… 16-10 denver
Marino had those kinds of number because he had a quick release, Orton definitely does not, I think when we play some of the top defenses like the next two games, Orton’s #’s will come back to earth, as was the case in the first quarter Sunday. So no reason for me thinking what will happen with Tebow and Orton if… so many things can happen with Orton between now and the end of the season, he ultimately will be the one to make that decision for McD with his play throughout, that means in November and December, I think it’s well known that yards and wins are easier to come by early in the year. Here is to hoping Orton makes it a connundrum for McD.
I voted for Oton and Hillis 5 times so far!
I believe that our pass protection and hopefully run blocking will improve each week as this young inexperienced line gains playing time. Clady and Harris need some time to heal and get back to football shape. I also expect to see baybay and Decker get more comfortable and be able to contribute more. Even thought Thomas did have a few good returns, I don’t like our number one draft choice being put in that situation. I purpose to give Thompson a shot, he showed some wheels in preseason. With that fumble recovery last week you can see that he has good hands. Give him a shot
Foster evidently missed a meeting and was late for another. In turn, his actions triggered the discipline he received from Kubiak.
Good one bay, a place to cool off (5 star dog pen), and gather your thoughts instead of being whisked away to the dog pound like Hillis LOL!!
rayjr… hard to say if Orton can keep this type of productivity throughout the season. So many intangibles to factor in. (opponents, defensive schemes, adjustments, injuries etc..).
If our O-line gets healthy and develops some continuity, no telling what could happen. The type of offensive system he’s in now makes it a strong possibility.
We’ll see what plays out as the season progresses.
Baylin….Orton better find a quick release like Marino Sunday or he might end up like Cutler sacked an NFL record 9 times in the 1st half and left with a concussion. The Ravens Defense is relentless as we found out last year,so we need to be able to run,or they’ll pin their ears back and come every down, all I can say is if we can’t run,McD better have something up his sleeve for their pass rush, screens won’t work either.Maybe some quick slants or hot routes, something to back them off the LOS.
BFE
What if Orton has a great year and maybe makes the probowl, does McD let him go or sign him to a long term contract, can’t trade him his contract is up.Seems to me he’s put himself in a perdiciment.
Never really understood the franchise tag,how does that work?????
The one weakness in the Ravens Defense is at the Cornerback position,so if our Oline can give Orton a little time maybe, just maybe he can read the Defense fast enough to get the ball out,he does have a problem holding the ball too long when the pressure is fierce.IMO
If you know the Defense is coming fast get rid of it,throw it away, for God sake don’t eat it.
actually i think orton is under contract for next year isnt he? i could be wrong…
I just pray to God that the injury bug has no more interest in the Broncos. If Orton goes down we are screwed.
BFE, the franchise tag allows a team to retain a player’s rights for one year at either the average of the top 10 highest salaries in the league at their position, or 110% of their previous year’s money, whichever is higher. Some players have clauses written into their contracts regarding the use of the franchise tag (as in not being able to use it two years in a row or not being able to use it if the player meets certain criteria).
we need to get Demaryius Thomas involved in the red zone he’ll get us TD’s
Thanks FM.
Orton just got a contract extension. Any real fan would know that
No need for smartass remarks moron.
I was thinking the extension was for this year, sorry for not thinking straight,I’ve been a fan since’82 how about you??????
Same scenerio goes for next year, but will he be traded or kept????
Anyone keeping up with that beast of a corner back Alphonso Smith who McDaniels traded for a TE thats done nothing for us. With Goodman being injured we sure could have used him. Whats the point of trading a first round 2010 pick to get Alphonso Smith in the second round of our 2009 draft and basically giving him away.
honestly i couldn’t tell you what McDaniels will do with Orton he so unpredictable. But Tebow is the future of the broncos organization.
yea no need for that killa but yea he did get a contract extension. a one year extension, which is probably the smartest thing McD has done. Why? Because while some may fail to agree, i see orton getting traded at the end of this year. He is our best trading chip and if he has the career year we expect, we can get a steal. Even with his performance im pretty sure McD has decided Orton is not the future a long time ago and if theres one thing we know McD is one sighted and doesnt change his mind.
You got a point TRB,but McD dosen’t seem to be to good at making trades,(Hillis for Quinn,Phonzy for a 1st round pick, etc….) probably not get much in return, who knows if McD is learning as he goes or not.
I feel that the ravens won’t be able to stop us like last season because we have three good wr to go too. I’m not saying we are going to blow out the ravens but this is not the same team like last year. If we can stop their rushing attack it will be a blood bath that everyone will enjoy to watch. I feel our broncos are ready for a team like the ravens.
If you’re right and we do trade Orton at the end of the year, shouldn’t McD be letting Tebow get a little playing time, practices and preseason dosen’t come close to real time game experience.I think he should get at least 4 or 5 plays a game,no matter how the Orton scenerio plays out.
When we beat the ravens we’ll prove to everyone we are a contender in the AFC. We have a better offense and I do believe are defense can stop them
