Vote For Never Say Never Moment of the Year

January 9th, 2012 - 4:53pm by Gray Caldwell

During the 2011 season, the Broncos won the GMC Never Say Never Moment of the Week five times.

The first four wins were for the team’s comeback, overtime win at San Diego in Week 12, game-winning drive late in the fourth quarter against the Jets in Week 11, hard-fought victory at Kansas City in Week 10 and overtime win at Miami in Week 7.

But it was the club’s fifth and final win of the season that is now up for the Never Say Never Moment of the Year.

Trailing the Chicago Bears 10-0 late in the fourth quarter, the Broncos completed one of the most memorable come-from-behind, overtime wins of the year.

It all began when Tim Tebow found Demaryius Thomas for a 10-yard touchdown. After the Bears recovered the ensuing onside kick, the defense forced a three-and-out, and the offense had another chance.

Matt Prater kicked a 59-yard field goal to send the game to overtime, and after the defense forced a fumble, the Broncos drove down the field for the game-winning 51-yarder by Prater.

Voting is now open for the moment of the year.

The Broncos’ Week 15 comeback is up against Green Bay’s Clay Matthews’ game-sealing goal-line stop against the New Orleans Saints, Tony Romo leading a Cowboys overtime victory against the Jets, Jason Campbell honoring late owner Al Davis with a Raiders win and Joe Flacco completing a season sweep of the Pittsburgh Steelers.

“I like Dmt roughly 100 times as much as I ever liked Marshall.”

Me too! but I always go for character guys!

  2. alex4serg says:

BFE, I thought this quote was about our upcoming playoff game:

“lbf…hard to beat a team twice in the same year,I hope LSU wins, but I wouldn’t lay money on it,Bama has been playing better than they was.

Should be a great matchup of 2 great SEC teams!”

You’re right though. It is hard to beat a team twice in one year, and I don’t think NE is going to do it. :P

  3. dad13xbroncsfan says:

Alex – do I get to choose the church that you attend?

  4. Bronco_Turtle says:

So, are they going to bring in a Veteran WR or bring up Goodwin or Orton off the Practice Squad?

I don’t know anything about those two players…

I haven’t quit smiling all day… except this morning about 3am when I was puking my guts out… It was Karma for drinking and being obnoxious… :o

It will be interesting to see how NE plays Tebow this time… I expect alot of intermediate passing, and I think Willis is well suited for this… NE has trouble in the secondary and we will need Willis and Royal to come up big to help DMT get free to roam… I like watching him, he’s SOOO fast, and Strong…

I hope we Re-Sign Royal… I would probably Franchise him if we can’t work out a long term deal… I know Hope is not a strategy but he is a valuable weapon…

Since yall are talking about the honey badger, I can’t help but to post this:

  6. dad13xbroncsfan says:

I think the Broncos have to figure out a solution for Hernandez and Gronk. Hernandez was MVP for that last game against NE.

  7. Bronco_Turtle says:

    Agreed DB…

I have mentally debated the Merit of swapping to a 3-4 for the week… Teams have smashed our Nickel with the Run in recent weeks, and this adds a linebacker to cover Hernandez without adding an extra DB…

However that leaves basically 6 guys to stop the run in the box… which is usually a recipe for disaster against a good coaching staff…

Tough situation really… I would Jam them at the line regardless but they are so talented it will be a huge challenge… Pressure Brady and all of the recieving talent becomes irrelivent… I’m getting excited already!!!

VON TEBOW FOOTBALL!!! One more time!!!

    FTP!!!

  8. millerqbkiller says:

i dont think ochocinco will score off a busted coverage again and if we tackle better some of the long plays hernandez had could be short gains. also we need to protect the football cant afford a turnover.

  9. dad13xbroncsfan says:

Can Bruton shut down Hernandez? one on one?

  10. dad13xbroncsfan says:

Goody has picked up his game. He was alternating good games and bad – but this is playoff and Goody has 85 well in hand.

  11. dad13xbroncsfan says:

That leaves Harris for Gronk. I think that’s a bad match-up. Gonna hafta double him with Carter.

  12. dad13xbroncsfan says:

Help me out – give me instruction here. Does this work out?

  13. Bronco_Turtle says:

Man… at 6’5″ and 255 lbs Julius Thomas is bigger than anyone of our LB’s…

This would be a great week to answer a set of Monsters with a Monster of our own in the middle… named Thomas …Wait a minute, we have one Thomas that is a BEAST already we could match them monster for monster…

He would only need two catches to double his season production…

  14. millerqbkiller says:

i think having bruton in the game vs having moore will help a little. we whiffed on a bunch of tackles last time we played them.

  15. alex4serg says:

What’s with all this draft talk. Our season ain’t even over yet.

And I guess if you are looking at mock drafts right now you are just assuming the broncos are gonna lose this game.

  16. millerqbkiller says:

what if we took a page out of billichecks book and used a wr to play db to cover gronk or hernandez. like troy brown did for years with the pats. just an idea. lol

  17. Bronco_Turtle says:

It is a tough call DB… It’s hard to double anyone if they send out 5 in the pattern without sacrificing your pass rush…

We have to get after Brady… Bruton may match up on Gronk well and be able to use his speed advantage to beat Gronk’s size, but if Gronk gets inside he is about as unstoppable as a TE has been for many years…

It could be worth mixing in some Zone coverages, but Brady is not easily confused and usually shreds the Zone… I’d only do it if we were really getting after him with the front 5 and was trying to force a turnover…

  18. mainBroncos60 says:

    Hello Broncos Country! Great win!

Does anyone remember where the post was of team highlights, then Elway on the sideline jumping up and down, and then Elway hugging Tebow in the locker room? I went back but couldn’t find it. It was on UTube. I’d like to see it again.

    Thanks!

  19. sndvl says:

Well that was fun! Amazing. Fantastic. Improbable. Electrifying. Basically, one of the best experiences of my life!
And I’m talking about the walk down the ramp! After that 80 yard strike 11 seconds in playoff overtime that won us the chance for another week of meaningful Denver Broncos football!
    Unbelievable!
The energy in that stadium. Especially when the pulse of the fans in the various parking lots was rather somber… One in particular had a gigantic jello shot on hold for after the game to help “cope”. She was taking it in victory fashion afterall. And as horrible as that thing probably tasted, I’m sure in that moment it tasted like sweet victory!
What a game! What a day! Oh and I still have no voice left…

    GO BRONCOS!!!!!!!!!!!!

  20. dad13xbroncsfan says:

Main60 – that was a Broncos TV video. It has been reposted on you-tube.

  21. dad13xbroncsfan says:

    Hey SNDVL !

  22. dad13xbroncsfan says:

I’m happy with Rosario and Fells.
    J. Thomas – I don’t know who he is.
    Virgil Green – who dat?

  23. dad13xbroncsfan says:

I never did see a good rerun to determine if the pass that Rosario missed was on Tebow or Rosario? Opinions?

  24. PatientBronco says:

Hey, did anyone notice Merril Hodge looking pissed that he had to say nice about Tebow and Broncos on NFL Live today? Looked like he had been eating crow all morning.

  25. Bronco_Turtle says:

SNDVL I also have no voice today!!!

It is hard to explain the feeling that came over the stadium after it was dead quiet when Pitt scored the final TD… People were looking at me like I had two Heads when I told them to stand up and make some noise…!!! :o

  26. alex4serg says:

The Refs already get heavily reviewed and downgraded when they make important mistakes.

Not only will the refs that missed those calls get downgraded, they will probably change the rules in the offseason. Two huge mistakes in the playoffs like that almost always lead to a rule change.

most likely they will just do a little change like “defense gets the ball if there is a clear recovery.”

  27. PatientBronco says:

I couldnt tell on that pass, Tebow only had a couple bad passes at all yesterday (thought he led Decker a little too much and made it hard to avoid that bad hit). Just glad they finally opened things up and he stopped being hesitant.

  28. alex4serg says:

lol dad. No, but if Tebow wants to take the time, I will attend the church of His choosing.

(lol. see what is did there? capatilizing ‘his’?)

  29. sndvl says:

Couple more thoughts before we get back on the highway…

Tim Tebow delivered. DMT delivered. That stiff arm sprung him! The victory lap taken by the players after the game was special. I was impressed with the respect demonstrated by the Steelers fans after the game. Classy (which is another huge surprise to me). But seeing John Elway and his emotion…that was awesome!

So? How coincidental that last time we were in the playoffs, we faced NE & Pitt? This year it is Pitt & NE….

I’m still enjoying this win. Won’t even start talking about the Saturday matchup for another day or two. I will say this much, Josh McDaniels rehire in NE basically validates my theory that he was sent here for a specific purpose.
This matchup just became a little more significant. And a Broncos victory would be that much sweeter…

    GO BRONCOS!!!!!!!!!!!!

  30. alex4serg says:

Some writer made a good point. Elway looked so excited after that game that you might have thought he was still our starting QB.

Hard to imagine Elway is gonna entertain any notions of trading Tebow this off season after how excited he looked after that game,

  31. mainBroncos60 says:

Thanks, Daddy. I watched again. Awesome!

  32. alex4serg says:

Well. I caught up to the blogs. But it seems most everyone has left.

Well … At least I didn’t end up saying anything I need to apologize for.

  33. alex4serg says:

BTW, NFL network is gonna replay the game on Wednesday.

  34. dad13xbroncsfan says:

Elway is going to need to get back into polyester suits if he is going to keep doing those arm pumps. Thought He was going to tear up his $1200 wool fashion statement there!!! LOL

  35. dad13xbroncsfan says:

Did Elway run the track – high fiving the fans?

  36. 1nOnlyTRB says:

    Alex4serg,
I didn’t say no one in the league is better than Marshall … I said no one in the league does what Marshall does and like him or not no one does the things he does when he has the ball … and he fumbled alot early until he started walking around dove valley with a ball in his hand. Next year he had no fumbles or was it 1. Thats what im talking about. Many receivers are better than him … i dunno about Vincent Jackson but to each his own. The convo of WRs can always go eithe rway .. but u are right … he is not on this team so no need to talk about him but peuple pull up the comparisons ans to me, Bay Bay is only faster in my book. I don’t think he is stronger, but we all have short memories .. which is good at times. Same way people talk about Morenos Fumbles … but werent that much … McGahee has fumbled way more than he ever did in a season … but people see what they wanna see … and its ok.

    Morning Everyone!

Watched the coaches show where it was mentioned that McD’s return to NE while the season is still in play is questionable at best.

In my opinion, it is a conflict of interest issue and the league should step in and stop such acts. Moves like this should not be able to happen until the season is over……….FOR ALL TEAMS.

That being said, I don’t think that McD will actually have much inpact on the game and his insight on our personel won’t really give NE an edge.

  38. brian_schneider says:

I’d still like to know what this “insider information” is that ESPN keeps speaking of. If it is strengths and weaknesses I’d think that Fox and McCoy would know how to combat those. If it is with his defensive reads I’d guess that they can help simplify them like they did against PIT. I’d just like to know what McD really knows…Tebow’s favorite color is white..everyone wear white to distract him…he’ll think it’s God trying to talk to him. They still have to account for our rushing attack too.

  39. killerkod says:

wonder what the line will be on this game? Prob have the pats by 14 or something crazy………….

They may have scored 41 on us last time out, but we spotted them 17 of those with some horrible turnovers. If we can eliminate the turnovers and actually cause 1 or 2 of our own against them, I think we have an excellent chance of pulling out a W. BUT IT AIN’T GONNA BE EASY!!!

  40. baylinorcrush says:

The line is Pats favorite by 13.5 and the over/under set at 50.5

  41. brian_schneider says:

You’re close killerkod, I think the spread was the Patriots by 13.5.

This game will be totally different than our first meeting this season. You’re right you take away our turnovers and it’s an entirely different ball game.

  42. brian_schneider says:

Crap, baylinorcrush beat me to it.

  43. 1nOnlyTRB says:

I’d bet on the broncos if I knew how lol. I dont think McD ill be a factor at all … i just dont think its fair for a coach to coach for different teams in the same year. Trading up to a playoff team … but nothing to cry about however.

    Broncos 30
    Patriots 24

Interesting, Fox has exactly the same outlook I always have with my Broncos:

Now the Broncos have to get back to business. The celebrating is over. Coach John Fox has told the players to “be the same guy. Don’t get too high, don’t get too low. Whenever it’s bad, it’s never as bad as some people might say. And it’s never as good as some people might say. Stay even keel.”

I always say I’m way too old to get so high as to fall so low, no way it’s a good think for the ticker at a certain age.

But when I was young of course I was all over the place, a lot like all the over emotional bloggers on this site.

Glad to know Fox knows that’s not the the way to go for the team, keep everything even keel and under the proper perspective. Like we are about to play the Patriots who are the most playoff-tested team remaining in the postseason field, Brady is a three-time Super Bowl champion and the Patriots know how to deal with the swirl that gets bigger the closer you get to the NFL championship game.

  45. 1nOnlyTRB says:

“n other news from Denver’s wild 29-23 victory, Twitter claimed Monday that Tebow’s 80-yard, game-ending touchdown pass to Demaryius Thomas was the most tweeted-about sporting event in the site’s five-year history.

According to Twitter, the play spawned a record 9,420 tweets per second.”

Broke more records than we thought.

Woody putting a funny spin on a not so funny subject:

Hoodie and The Blowfish are back together again.

Josh McDaniels is reuniting with Bill Belichick for “I Spy: The Second Sequel.”

The Broncos certainly should not hold a walkthrough practice at the razor stadium on the eve of Saturday night’s playoff game. They don’t know who’ll be watching, taping and stealing signals, schemes and plays.

Will Belichick and McDaniels be rehiring Steve Scarnecchia too? The former Patriots and Broncos videographer is the son of Patriots longtime assistant Dante Scarnecchia , and was McDaniels’ roommate on the road when they originally joined the Patriots. He was a willing, admitted participant in both Spygate and McSpygate.

For Saturday’s game, Belichick and McDaniels can wear matching gray, hooded sweat shirts and toenail polish.

What a crock of a coincidence this is.

Belichick said Monday that McDaniels will be a “good asset to our team for the remainder of the season.”

And Fox is just awesome in answering the issue and about the NFL allowing it:

Broncos coach John Fox seems indifferent to the McDaniels hire.

“I just stay in my own lane. Other people make the rules. It doesn’t matter, is what I think,” he said Monday afternoon during his news conference.

“I just stay in my own lane”, CLASSIC!

  47. brian_schneider says:

Even if McD wasn’t going to join back up with NE, Bill would still call up McD and ask him for some inside info.

  48. baylinorcrush says:

And like Klis says, what does McDaniels know about Tebow anyway, he wasn’t even smart enough to play him.

  49. 1nOnlyTRB says:

Understandably. Same way im sure he will call romeo crennel … etc … I actually believe Romeo would do more damage than McD. I just don’t think McD should be on the staff. Assuming they make it to the superbowl, that will just be another BS he can claim he had a hand in when he wasn’t even there. But like I said … nothing to cry about.
