On the starting quarterback
“We announced that [QB] Tim Tebow would start the Miami game, and we’re moving forward.”

On the reasoning behind his decision
“I think (being) 1-4 has a lot to do with it. We haven’t gotten it done as a football team—it’s not one guy. It’s not all [QB] Kyle Orton’s fault, but we do have to make adjustments and we do have to change. We have to do something to win football games.”

On Orton’s reaction
“Great, just like he’s handled everything thus far. He’s one of the more professional guys on our football team. The way he goes about his business, the way he handles everything, I have nothing but respect for Kyle Orton.”

On if Tebow will start the rest of the season
“Like every position—and I’ve said this before and I won’t deviate from that at all—we’re one week at a time, and all our efforts are into one game. Right now it’s getting healthy and getting a little bit better at our assignments, and when we come back we’ll be getting ready for Miami.”

On potentially changing the offense to suit Tebow’s skillset
“Our job as coaches is to put players in positions to make plays, and it will be no different with Tim.”

On what he hopes to see from Tebow
“There is really nothing like being in the game, but I think Tim has improved all season. He’s gotten reps in practice; he’s been in meetings. Like I said, we’re about two months into it as a staff, but he’s improved like most guys on the team and he will continue to.”

On challenges Tebow faces
“It’s not like we signed him off the street. He’s been in meetings the whole season, and as I’ve mentioned before, it’s the next man up. We’ve done that before due to injury, due to changes, and [we will] continue to do that throughout the rest of the season.”

On whether Tebow gives the team the best chance to win
“I think right now we’ve won once, so all we’re trying to do is win. It won’t be around one guy.”

On using the shotgun
“We’ve utilized the shotgun in every game this year. Whether it’s the shotgun or under center or defense, offense, special teams, we have to get better because we’re 1-4.”

On making the decision
“We’re 1-4. We’ve got to move on. We can’t be S.O.S., and we’re going to do whatever it takes to get out of that. So, whether this works or not, time will tell.”

On DT Kevin Vickerson
“He did have some ligament damage in that ankle after further review, and it looked like it was going to be an 8-10 week injury. So, we put him on injured reserve.”

On DT Marcus Thomas
“We finally got him back, and I’m sure he’s going to improve as we go.”

On choosing Tebow over QB Brady Quinn
“I think they are both fine players, and only one of them can play at a time. Right now it’s Tim.”

On Tebow lining up under center
“We’ll address that, and that’s why we practice. That’s why we prepare. We’ll try to prepare him to the best of our abilities and see where it goes.”

On other lineup changes
“We’ll look into whatever we can to try to win football games. We’ll do that from this point forward, and we’ve been doing that up to this point.”

On self-scouting during the bye week
“We just have to execute more consistently. I think probably one of our more consistent phases has been our special teams. We have to get up to par with that on offense and defense. We’re not real far away, but it hasn’t resulted in that win-loss column. As coaches and players, we’ll continue to try to be more consistent. That was really the main thing that we saw in the film study.”

On his message to the fans
“As I’ve said all along and I’m not changing it today versus a month ago, I think we have passionate fans, great fans. We have a huge home-field advantage, and at the end of the day we make decisions on what we see. We do it full time.”

On what contributed to making the decision now
“At the end of the day, we’re in a production-based business. We’re a 1-4 football team. I’m a 1-4 head coach. We have a 1-4 coaching staff. We have a 1-4 team, and it’s my job—our job—to make decisions to try to change that. We’ll see if this is one that does that.”

On FB Quinn Johnson
“He’s a guy that we’re familiar with. Our pro personnel department felt like he was a guy that could help us, and we’re going to make those moves throughout the season if we feel [they] can help us.”

On Orton being a backup quarterback
“He’s been nothing but a pro the whole time. I don’t anticipate that changing whatsoever.”

On factors that went into the decision
“It is a choice, and we made it. You always have choices. Like I said before, it wasn’t so much ‘fan outcry’ as that we are in a result-oriented business. We’re 1-4. It’s not one guy. We’ll see if this helps.”

On if it was an obvious decision
“No. Again, you don’t like to be S.O.S., and we had to do something to change, and hopefully this is part of that.”

On if they had to sell the decision to the team
“It’s like everything else we do. It’s something you tell them whether it’s what time you have breakfast or what time the plane leaves. That’s my job.”

On the team’s reaction
“Everybody in there understands that we are in a production-based business, and right now all of us are 1-4 and we’re trying to change that.”

Tebow time has arrived in Denver !!! The Broncos are also getting skilled receivers back healthy again. Can you imagine the match-up problems for other teams if the Broncos go with a 5 wide-out, Tebow in the shot-gun alignment ? I believe Lloyd, Decker, Royal, Thomas, Thomas ( as a group ) are the best 5 receiver group in the NFL today and few teams would have the nickle and dime packages to cover this collection. Imagine a no-huddle with Lloyd and Royal on one side, and Decker, Thomas, and Thomas on the other. Tebow gets to the line with plenty of time to look over the coverages and determine which receiver has the largest advantage. Royal then goes into motion to flood the 3-wide side. Tebow gets the snap and can hand the ball to Royal on an end-around or can flip it to Royal on a bubble screen with the three 200+ lb wideouts blocking corners in front of him. If Tebow gets blitzed, then that leaves one-on-one coverage for 3 or 4 of the wideouts. With wideouts standing at 6’0″, 6’3″, and 6’5″, quick slants are also in play. With the field spread out, Tebow can tuck the ball and scamper upfield, outracing linemen to the sticks. Passing lanes also open up, with less chance of linemen batting balls down. With 5 wideouts, opposing linebackers will spend a lot of time on the bench. A no-huddle keeps opposing personnel on the field and limits substitutions — a definite advantage for the home team in mile high altitude. 5 wideouts allow a plethora of combination possibilities for crossing patterns, slants, curls, stop-and-go’s and flat out sprints for the deep ball. I can’t wait until all the skill guys get back into the game. Denver does not have many advantages over other teams, but I believe their receiver crop is one of them. Time to exploit that advantage with a mobile quarterback taking the snaps.
