Touchdown Brings Broncos Closer

September 17th, 2012 - 9:38pm by Sam Davis

Following a Falcons punt, the Broncos started the drive from their own 12-yard line. Denver quickly moved the ball into Atlanta territory with first-down receptions to receivers Brandon Stokley and Matthew Willis and a 17-yard catch-and-run from running back Lance Ball.

On second-and-20 from the Falcons 40-yard line, Manning threw an incomplete pass to Demaryius Thomas near the first-down markers, but a defensive pass interference call gave the offense a first down.

On the next play, Manning connected with Thomas for a 12-yard pass, setting up the Broncos with a first down inside the red zone.

A pair of runs from Willis McGahee combined for 11 yards to put the Broncos near the goal line, but a false start penalty moved them back to the 5-yard line.

McGahee took it twice more, this time punching it into the end zone on the second carry from 2 yards out.

The score brought Denver to within 13 points, trailing 27-14.

On the drive, running back Willis McGahee topped the 100-yard mark on the ground for the 31st time of his career.

He now has 19 carries for 107 yards and a touchdown. He is the game’s leading rusher.
