Top 5 Plays: Offense

February 22nd, 2011 - 3:10pm by Gray Caldwell

Just as with the defense, Broncos TV has counted down the top five plays on offense from the 2010 season.

They are as follows:

5) Against the Seattle Seahawks, Kyle Orton pitched the ball to Knowshon Moreno, who took off running to his right. The running back then threw the ball back to Orton, who launched it downfield to Eddie Royal for a 34-yard gain to the 1-yard line.

“Awesome call,” Orton said. “Those are fun plays. It gets the crowd going, it gets us going. I had a big smile on my face just calling it in the huddle. Knowshon gave me a good throw and Eddie made a nice catch and almost got in.”

4) Brandon Lloyd’s 37-yard, circus grab over two Kansas City defensive backs in a win in Week 8. The NFL’s leading receiver finished the game with 90 yards and two touchdowns.

3) Jabar Gaffney’s diving, 40-yard catch in the middle of the end zone for Orton’s third touchdown against the Chiefs in the same game.

2) Lloyd’s touchdown reception on a dead sprint against the Ravens. The Pro Bowler kept control of the ball as he dove and slid out of the back of the end zone.

1) Tim Tebow’s 40-yard touchdown run in his first start as a professional, one he admitted came on a broken play. The called handoff to Correll Buckhalter turned into a designed quarterback sneak, thanks to a big block by Buckhalter.

“I just ran it and Buck went and led up for me and made a good block, I cut off his block and we scored,” Tebow smiled. “It ended up working.”

In the end, it was the longest scoring run by a quarterback in Broncos history.

Once again, check out the video and let us know what you think of the rankings. Did we leave any plays out? Leave your thoughts in the comments.

Oh and by the way I really like how Champ said several things like how he feels like he’s at home in Denver and how he wants to bring another Super Bowl trophy back to the fans. Now it should be clear to all of us that Champ really does bleed orange and blue. Some guys are just born with it and Champ appears to be one of them even though he was born nowhere near Denver.

  2. Bro says:

thankyou champ for staying!!! the road to the lombardi starts with defense! lets go broncos!

  3. BroncoRoyaltyEst.1979 says:

Yessir! CHAMP IS STAYING HOME IS RIGHT 88. He’s put on for our city. on, on for our city PUUUTTTTT OOOONNNN!!!!.LOL sorry I am just sooo fired up about the Champ news. I think that this is a big W for the the bloggers and true Broncos country fans!

I’m so appreciative that the “Triumvirate” LOL like bay likes to say, got it done. I knew Champ was an optimist & must believe that the team is headed in the right direction by getting Coach Fox or, like I previously posted, really doesn’t put ‘getting a ring’ on his proverbial achievements list, as defining his career, and would like to finish with a city, scratch that a FAN BASE COUNTRY WIDE that has complete loyalty to him. That answer alone lies in HIS heart. To reiterate, I’m just glad he’s staying.

Now I hope all their efforts go to putting money behind monsters on the D-Line and trash that peterson talk. We need a pass rush and a run stopping D first and foremost and that all starts in the trenches.

On Shockey I’m iffy. To be honest I never liked the guy, he just don’t feel like a Bronco to me, I just don’t see him in our uniform, such a narcissist, as well as a trash talker. Yet on the other hand we had one of the most narcissistic trash talkers at TE whom is now a HOFer -need I say his name?- but he always backed it up on the field not that Shockey doesn’t… idk cant call it, I’ll have to break down the pros and cons. All i know is that he will get snatched up by some team, quick.

Just to say… I’d like to thank all the people that posted SIGN CHAMP everywhere especially here, and even to the small crowd of 40 who went and rallied for Champs re-signing. I really believe that it made all the difference. I really do… I should have made ‘SIGN CHAMP’ T-Shirts probably would have sold em all lol. This is one thing I have to smile about this week after loosing my nino to cancer R.I.P. He also wanted Champ to stay and i’m sure this to would put a smile on his face… A good day for Broncos fans.

THE CHAMP IS IN TOWN!!!!!!! I am so happy we kept him, he is a class act and a true BRONCO. He makes me proud to be sport the orange and blue!!!!

  5. BroncoRoyaltyEst.1979 says:

Man I’m happy he’s staying I for one thought he was gone, putting his house up and all, but like a lot of you said, that was a ploy into getting the top brass to get a deal done A.S.A.P.

  6. Mikeyb1203 says:

This is a repost form an older blog.

My dream draft(s) would be this
    1st round Nick Fairley DT
    2nd round Martez Wilson ILB
2nd round Rahiem Moore/ Ahmad Black depending on who is available.
    3rd round Best TE available

Or if Fairley is gone this would do nicely also.
1st round Patrick Peterson (the reason why I would take him is because the steelers just showed the best front seven doesn’t always get to the qb in time and I would love to have someone ready to replace Bailey when the time comes, kinda like an Arron Rodgers for Brett Farve.)
    2nd round Stephen Paea
    2nd round Best ILB available
    3rd round best TE availabl

  7. Mikeyb1203 says:

That being said we cannot fix all the holes in one year and switching back to the 4-3 may have fixed some holes already. I tried to address all three levels on defense to make our D balanced and fixed the biggest hole on our offense.

  8. broncos20 says:

thanks for the info and links bf30

this will be an intersting offseason… :D

  9. broncos20 says:

I mentioned a LB from Notre Dame few months ago, Manti Teo
Im still high on him and I hope we could pick him up next year if possible.
THis kid has sideline-to-sideline speed for an ILB .hands-down NASTY HITTER! tackling machine…good instincts

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9FFRPiqBpbk

he once had 21 tackles against Standford.

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8vce0uREA04&playnext=1&list=PLC04863294DFCA612

illl hate which ever team picks him other than the Broncos..aha

  10. TTDBroncFanTT15 says:

bay… i would also love to see more willis, him and TT hooked up a lot in preseason and the boy has great speed, and not afraid to go in the mid to catch a ball…(thats important for me). I dont like players who are scared to get hit. I may be wrong but i was not impressed with how D Thomas went for the ball, for such a big guy he didnt fight for it much (when he played that is).

  11. baylinorcrush says:

Sometimes I say something and I think it just went over everyone’s head and then out of nowhere someone comes up ieons later and gets your point, like TTD just did about Willis, I like that.

Also enjoyed reading Royalty’s post, all my condoleances to you for losing your “nino”.

And yeah, as magic says, it makes no football sense to still think CB with the #2 pick with the poor front 7 we got and now Bailey here for the long run. But each is entitled to their opinions and of course none of us have to buy into it, which, glad to see, very few do now.

NO SENSE ADDING TO THE TRIMMINGS IF YOU DON’T HAVE THE BEEF!

  12. rebelbronco says:

If Fairley goes #1 to Carolina, I wouldn’t mind picking up Peterson. He is an insanley talented player that could make an immediate impact, especially in the return game. If a new CBA gets done we can trade Orton for a second round pick giving us four picks in the second and third rounds. There are plenty of D studs to be had in these roundss. Take Wilson (ILB from Illinois) then Austin (DT North Carolina) then Pea and then Nevis from LSU. Thats one LB and three DL. Use the 6th and 7th round picks on a tight end and fullback. Again if the CBA gets done and we can get an extra 2nd round pick Peterson does make since if Fairly is gone. Peterson and Syd can become our future conrners as Champ transitions to free safety in the next two years, and you secure a solid front seven with the next four picks for years to come. I know most of you don’t like the Peterson pick at two, but in some cases it makes since.

Glad we signed Champ, way to go front office! Glad to see us heading in the right direction.

    Go Broncos!!

  13. baylinorcrush says:

Why do I love Elway and Bailey so much? Because they are both very sharp, the kind of athlete you find in football once in a blue moon, physical talents to go along with a brain, very rare combo in this sport indeed. To proof:

Champ Bailey, the Broncos’ newly signed cornerback, said he was not optimistic a new collective bargaining agreement between NFL owners and players union would be reached before the start of the 2011 season on Sept. 8 (When the Green Bay Packers are expected to host TBA).

“”No I’m not,” Bailey said by conference call. “”I’ve been pessimistic about this thing since Day 1. Ever since our union leader (DeMaurice Smith) came and talked to us last year it kind of opened my eyes like, there might not be football. I know once April, May, June, July rolls around, and there’s no football, I don’t know what the players are going to do.

“There’s a lot of players out there that need this game. That’s a big bargaining chip for the NFL and they’re going to use that against us. I can see that happening.”

We all hope he is wrong, but most of us know he may just have it right. I’m not even in the loop and I have looked at it from day one just like he does, too bad I don’t have the physical talent, LOL.

  14. baylinorcrush says:

Why don’t you guys from down the Louisiana way form a Peterson club, there are like a dozen of you on this blog alone, and fly to Denver for a “draft Peterson” rally outside of Invesco just like the hard core Bailey fans did for re-signing Bailey. That’s just about the only chance you got at this point! There are ten of us to your everyone who wants beef first instead of trimmings, just saying.

  15. baylinorcrush says:

    And about that:

There was some nervousness last week when Champ Bailey let it be known he was putting his Denver home on the market.

He admitted Thursday it was all part of a bargaining strategy.

“Everything you say publicly has something to do with negotiations,’’ Bailey said.

It was yours truly who said it here first! Once again my business background is a smart ally in understanding this football world.

Just like anyone with any business sense would know it makes no sense to draft a CB with the #2 money that goes with it when you have a 12 mil per year man there already. Good thing is Mr Bowlen knows and he ultimately will make that decision to the chagrin of all the Mississippi delta folks.

  16. baylinorcrush says:

    About the cba negotiations:

All participants have been abiding by mediator George Cohen’s request not to discuss the talks publicly. One key member of the NFLPA negotiating team, outside counsel Jeffrey Kessler, walked out and got into a waiting taxi. He was leaving town ahead of Thursday’s hearing in Minneapolis in front of U.S. District Court judge David Doty for the union’s appeal of a ruling about whether the NFL improperly negotiated TV contracts. Doty holds jurisdiction over NFL labor matters.

In short the Players Union knows it is screwed to the wall since the NFL will get his TV revenues whether there is a season or not, and the players will get NOTHING!

  17. baylinorcrush says:

This is a good day for stuff to talk about:

The Broncos may have some tough decisions to make regarding four of their most experienced players.

Strong safety Brian Dawkins, 37, is due a $6 million salary in 2011 and nose tackle Jamal Williams, who turns 35 on April 28, and would have to become a defensive tackle in the team’s new 4-3 alignment, is owed $5 million in salary and roster bonus.

Free safety Renaldo Hill, 32, is scheduled for a $2.4 million salary and running back Correll Buckhalter, 32, is on the books for $1.92 million.

None of that money with those players is guaranteed.

  18. baylinorcrush says:

And the lowdown on our FA:

The only Denver player certain to be eligible for unrestricted free agency is defensive tackle Ron Fields, who has six years of service. Those who will be unrestricted free agents with a new CBA, but restricted free agents if the league plays another season without a settlement, are running back Laurence Maroney, defensive end Kevin Vickerson, defensive tackle Marcus Thomas, offensive tackle Ryan Harris and fullback Kyle Eckles, who spent last season on injured reserve.

Thomas may be viewed as a better fit in the new 4-3 defense than Williams.

Two players are eligible for first-year restricted free agency: linebacker Wesley Woodyard and kicker Matt Prater.

Thanks to Klis for providing us the meat of the above posts today.

  19. caramelloo says:

Man I’m gone for a little bit and people still want us to draft Peterson?!?! People let it goooooooooo!! We signed Champ and we REALLY need to shore up that front seven. Peterson is good and one day will be great but we are in desperate need for front seven help.

We need pass rushers and run stoppers! Give Vaughn and Thompson a chance to shine. We wanted them to get their shot this past season, but now all of a sudden people are forgetting about them.

    Sincerely,

A Louisiana man and LSU fan

  20. strandoftds says:

As far as dead money is concerned and no new CBA in site most of those players Bay mentioned are most likely cut.

  21. strandoftds says:

I agree with Mello. I think Thompson is going to be a good solid CB in the near future.

  22. 3rdGeneration says:

Baylinocrush: who do you think WR should draft?

To your other points here’s my two cents:
I think Dawkins and Williams have good football in them, but they’re old, so I’m worried they’ll be hurt a lot. I haven’t seen McBath enough to know how he’ll be, and when he got a shot last year he also got hurt. Im not a big Hill fan, and wouldn’t mind seeing him as part of “the purge.” I think the safety position can be very impact and want a stud. As you’ve probably heard me recently rant about I think we should consider a free agent like Atogwe, Sanders, or draft a safety early. Williams might be a good mentor for our fresh “beef.”

  23. 3rdGeneration says:

Like many folks who have an Elway hangover, I have an Atwater hangover.

  24. rebelbronco says:

All I said was that Peterson was a possibility, and made since if certain things happened, i.e. Fairley going to Carolina with #1 pick. Geeeeeeesssss!

I want to beef up the front seven just as much as anyone else. If you bothered to read my post on taking Peterson in certain situations, you would see that with picking him I gave ways to build the front seven with all the remaining picks.

Bay, if your son enlightend on how Mr. Bowlen and the front office think and do business, tell me what the Broncos will do on draft day if Fairley goes #1?

  25. baylinorcrush says:

    They won’t pick Peterson, LOL.

  26. rebelbronco says:

I doubt they will bro, but it will be interesting to see if they trade down with Fairley gone. If that happens. I just feel we could get Dareus at a later first round pick

  27. baylinorcrush says:

3rdG, I go with your #3 option, draft a safety early, but I can’t tell you who and with what pick since it would reveal my draft contest entry way too soon.

Some mock draft geniuses have us drafting Green with the #2, hahaha.

  28. baylinorcrush says:

I know what you mean, I think we could chance it down to # 5 and pick Dareus because I think he would go at 6 for sure, but what a gamble, not for the faint of heart. I personally would play it safe and draft him with the #2, he is the most sure thing out there on the DL this year as I have pointed to many times.

  29. rebelbronco says:

If we want to really know what direction we will go on draft we need to just ask Tebow’s agent. If any of ya’ll watched his draft special (I’m sure we all did) that guy was insane. He new exactly which teams were taking which players before the picks were made. Agents, like good stock brokers, have all the inside trader info LOL!!!

  30. rebelbronco says:

If Fairley goes at #1, I’ll have no problem with Dareus at #2 or Peterson ;) LOL! Pease fellow Broncos I have a sales meeting to attend.

  31. royalbroncofan1 says:

B-Dawk is getting on with age, plus injuries really slowed him down last season. That’s a big chunk of change right there to really consider. He’s a hard working player and an unquestioned leader. His health will be a big factor. Respect for B-Dawk, who’s had a great career.

Jamal Williams is past his prime and should consider retirement. The Team did well in managing his practice schedule and gametime last year, but productivity really has fallen off.

Buck is really niked up thru the coarse of his career. He was not available for much of the season, or so it seemed. I like seeing him catching swing passes and getting out to second level where he can spring free. Not sure about his return.

I see Reynaldo back for one more year. He still has some gas left in the tank, and is a Vet who will help Dennis Allen.

  32. rebelbronco says:

    * Peace

  33. baylinorcrush says:

Pretty good evaluation rbf1, the only thing I would do different is definitely let Bucky go, I don’t see 2 mil for a part time participant who can go down at any time like he has so many times. In short Hill is the only one of those to keep in my opinion because you have to have some veteran leadership at that position, but not at the 6 mil Dawkins cost, 2.4 mil for Hill makes mucho mas sense. And of course 5 mil for a part time NT in Williams would be ridiculous specially that we won’t need one anymore in the 43 and we will draft the right beef to replace him anyway.

  34. caramelloo says:

I aslo feel like we need to get a Saftey to eventually take Daks place. yes he might have another year in him, but he hasn’t played a full season since he arrived in Denver. He’s kind of like the TE people are saying we should pick up. Shockey and Dawkins are old, injury prone, old, and ummm injury prone.

Get a young Saftey and young TE in!

  35. broncosfreak30 says:

Bay, how about you form a Dareus club!

I cannot believe some people are acting like signing Peterson would be the worst thing we could do! It wouldn’t even be a bad thing!!! I mean if you look at all of the mock drafts most of them even have us taking Peterson with still having Bailey on the team! Get with the program that it is a very strong possibility! Some people act as if we are saying that we should draft AJ Green or something!

All of our defensive back starts are over the age of 30! Same thing for our defensive line! With most drafts you would most certainly draft our very first need with our #2 overall pick! But this is a different draft! This draft is SOOOO DL heavy that it is crazy! Several guys have already dropped to the 2nd round and we already have 2 picks there! We could easily take Peterson in the first and then either Paea, Austin, Nevis, Taylor, or anyone of those stand out guys! Paea was going to be a 1st round player and still might be but his injury dropped him a bit!!

I am tired of seeing comments and gestures about how stupid the idea is of drafting Peterson and people laughing about it! I think taking Dareus with the 2nd overall pick is the most idiotic thing we could do! We could easily move down to the 5th pick and pick him there! That would be a waste of a 2nd overall pick!!!

Peterson would fill a huge need on our defense and we could still improve our front 7 drastically! I would be even MORE comfortable with the CBA getting a deal done so that we could get another 2nd for Orton and then I would say then draft Peterson no matter what!

I think it goes like this!!!

    Fairley then Peterson!

If Fairley is there jump on him. If not, get Peterson! Peterson is the best player in this draft and some people are talking like how he’s nothing at all! Please get real! This doesn’t mean were on a stupid “bandwagon” for him or anything at all!!! This blog needs to get more mature, it definitely wouldn’t hurt!!!

I LOVE ME SOME BRONCOS COUNTRY!

  36. broncosfreak30 says:

    And yes Bay..

I agree with the Bucky part. I hate to see him go but with how old he is and the possibility of us probably picking up Williams when a new CBA is reached is highly probable. That would just be too much money for him at the 3rd or 4th RB position.

I think it will be, in order, Williams, Moreno, Ball/whoever else we have

  37. baylinorcrush says:

Always love to have young behind the ears ones telling us to have more maturity, thanks for the laugh freak.

  38. royalbroncofan1 says:

In reference to picking up Shockey, I don’t see it happening but you never know.
Dan Grankowski is a great blocking TE, although hasn’t shown he can be a pass catching TE. Maybe in a new system.
At 6’5″ 255lbs can run the 40 in 4.79. Not bad for a big man. He isn’t known for his athleticism but more of a blue collar kind of player.
His two brothers also play in the NFL. Rob Grankowski – TE for Pats and Chris Grankowski – FB Dallas Cowboys.

  39. baylinorcrush says:

    It’s actually the Gronkowski brothers.

  40. broncosfreak30 says:

Just like I said before, age has nothing to do with anything on these blogs. It is just what makes over the hill people feel good about themselves. There is nothing wrong with having an idea or anything and the Peterson idea is not in any case a bad opinion. You get on here and laugh at peoples ideas and make them try to feel bad about what they say. You come out now and laugh at me just because I said that everyone should show more common courtesy to each other!

Just like with RebelBronco, he states his opinion, and you get on here and laugh about it!

It all speaks for itself, laugh if you want, that’s all I expect!

  41. royalbroncofan1 says:

Good point bay. We do need to free up some of this money and try to sign DeAngelo Williams.

  42. broncosfreak30 says:

Everyone on here is a fan and no one is higher up or lower than anyone else! If you were a scout or something like that or had NFL experience I could understand. But were are all equals here no matter of age or race or anything! Talk about discriminating against young people. Someone has issues!

  43. royalbroncofan1 says:

    Sorry for typo… “Gronkowski”

  44. broncosfreak30 says:

Yea Royal. There is talk that the Saints might actually release Bush as well but he would be extremely too pricey to afford in my opinion!

  45. Yovi21 says:

Yea, I don’t know who would be good to take in the draft! I dont care if we take Fairley of A.J. Green, as long as when they walk on the field for their first game they make an immediate difference. With this high a pick we cant afford to grab anyone who isnt gunna be an immediate impact!

  46. Yovi21 says:

    or A.J Green sorry!

  47. broncosfreak30 says:

It seems like this year there is a lot of potential players to turn our team around. With the draft and FA. The CBA is holding that up now and delaying us from that unfortunately!

  48. broncosfreak30 says:

    Very well said Yovi!

We just need to try and get the best player on defense! Honestly we need just about everything on defense! When we look back in a couple of years, I would love to hear that whoever we took that they were the greatest player on defense in that draft!

Just like you said, even AJ Green. If he is going to be the next Jerry Rice, which I don’t believe so, I say we draft him!

Our front office just has to do a perfect job in finding the true talent out there!

  49. broncosfreak30 says:

I figured that I would post this for everyone! It is the complete combine schedule of what they will be doing and which position of players!!

    http://www.denverpost.com/broncos/ci_17455122

  50. royalbroncofan1 says:

bf30- Yeah, agree Bush is to high priced for the amount of touches he gets. I did see him play here a couple of years ago and was impressed with his speed getting to the outside.
DeAngelo seems to make more sense as he’s played for Fox previously.
