With Denver’s season opener vs. Pittsburgh appearing in primetime on NBC’s Sunday Night Football, Tony Dungy visited the Broncos on Monday.
Dungy, the former head coach of Indianapolis, is a studio host for Football Night in America, which precedes the Sunday Night Football game each week on NBC.
After practice, Dungy visited with some of his former players who are now Broncos — quarterback Peyton Manning, wide receiver Brandon Stokley and tight end Jacob Tamme.
Stokley, who played under Dungy in Indianapolis for four seasons, said he enjoyed catching up with his former coach.
“It’s great to see Coach Dungy,” Stokley said. “He’s a special person, and not just a great coach but a great person. He meant a lot to me and to my family. It’s always great to see him.”
Linebacker Wesley Woodyard said he appreciated getting to meet someone that he’s looked up to for a long time.
“He’s one of my biggest role models,” Woodyard said. “I read his books, just the things that he’s been through and to continue to stand strong in his faith, that shows a lot about what kind of person he is.”
Head Coach John Fox went over to say hello to Dungy on the field after practice as well.
“It’s just always good to see old friends,” Fox said. “I’ve known Tony for a long time. I followed him, really, into Pittsburgh way back in the 80s so from the standpoint as a colleague, somebody you have respect for, it’s always nice to have those guys around.”

How long has it been since we shut someone out!? Since the jets? Guessing 2008?
Who is 1st?
I want to see him get sacked and Von Miller picking up a fumble and bring it back to the house for a score. LOL
If I remember correctly, its the Steelers I think. I heard about this a year ago. I just looked it up and saw how many for us. Man thats a great string of no shut outs.
Didnt we have something like 6 sacks in last years playoff game? Im setting the bar there.
And Big Bens Ankle is still not right. He`s not the same, still hobbling a bit. Ben has a small tear in his rotator cuff too.
I`m not sure of that Ticat06.
Big Ben also has a torn rotator cuff and you have to get surgery to fix that. It will be interesting to see if that affects him. And James Harrison will probably not play.
We will shut down the run and then unleash the Wolfe-Von-Doom on Ben and it will be all over.
I can’t wait!!!!!!!!!!
I hope the steelers o line falls apart. Losing Decastro will hurt, and I think I read Harrison will be good to go but we will see.
Scalp I just read that they don’t think Harrison will play.
Their oline is suspect, that’s for sure!
Dont forget that a new O coordinator in Haley as well.
True horse! Big Ben was not impressed with changing the offense!
Headaing for Colorado on Saturday to help our daughter celebrate her big 50!!! Won’t be there in time to go to the game. BUMMER!!!

So, my Grandpa lost his battle with Cancer today and it was more of a blessing for him to finally go. Sad stuff, but makes you appreciate Football even more as an escape.
There are 29 Season Record Predictions and 16 weekly score predictions! Keep them coming!
B-R-O-N-C-O-S BRONCOS BRONCOS BRONCOS!
Broncos Country 31
rape nation 28
Prater wins this one!
Sorry for your loss Turtle. Sometimes it’s a blessing but still sad times. My prayers are with you.
I predict 11-5 for the season. loses to Balt, SD ,NO ,KC,NE. 23-20 PRATER from 54 yards for the win!
beat up Rapestbuger
Sorry for your loss Turtle. i know we dont always see eye to eye on some things and had a few disagreements. But i too recently loss my uncle and grandfather a few months ago to cancer. my uncle was a broncos fan. both of them a few weeks apart. so my best to you and your family.
Sorry to both BT and Socal. God bless both of you. Know my prayers are with you during this difficult time.
So I guess Dungy feels relevant with his PFM ties here for about 4 SNF games here?
No hard feelings Socal… sorry to hear about your loss as well. Thank you everyone else for your concern. Death is never easy, but when you watch someone being eaten from the inside by Cancer you quickly come to realize that Death is really the thing that relieves the pain…
I’m excited to see Von Wolfe’n'Doom ‘Eat Greedy’ all over Rapelesberger!!! I’m predicting 6 sacks for the game… The biggest hit coming from Irving coming off the edge untouched because of all the match up problems our pass rush will create!
Sorry for your loss Turtle.
As for the predictions
I had said 11-5 for the year
and for the first game make it Broncos 27 Steelers 16
BT
Having lost my father to cancer I know the gut wrenching rollercoaster ride you and all clkose to your grandfather were on. It’s a sad time, but a happy time. Sad that he’s gone but happy that the suffering is over for him and that some semblance of normalcy has been restored to all concerned.
Turtle and Socal, Sorry for your loss as well. OSS said it very well
My Prediction (Forgive me Broncos Country) is going to be Steelers 31, Broncos 24. I think that if I’m the only one that picks the dark side it’s like roulette and if I lose everyone else wins!!! anyway, I’m taking a chance and going for a clean sweep of the points! I think Denver has a far superior team right now, but for the sake of the long haul of the contest I’m going for an early lead
Dy_Nasty I appreciate your honesty. I have us winning because I don’t think the Steelers are any better than they were last January and we’ve improved many assets. However, I have usus
Losing next week in Georgia because its so hard to win there.
Morning Gang!
Hope everyone had a great labour day weekend!
Can’t believe the NFL season is just about here. Gonna be a great game tomorrow night………I’m looking forward to seeing the Giants destroy the Cowgirls……
And then it’s a Sunday filled with games! My wife is so excited! NOT! lol I can hear her now, “Do you have to watch 2 games in a row before your Broncos come on?” hahahaha YES HON, I DO!
I think it’s going to be a close game, and one with each team scoring over 24 points each. Not quite set to make my official prediction yet though.
I agree cat…….will be tough to win in Atlanta……….but tough is not unwinnable. I can see a real old fashioned shoot-out down there…..and maybe squeeking out a W.
GO BRONCOS!
Definitely excited for the regular season to start. Think our first game is giong to be a good one, as far as first games go. It will be the first time that all the starters will need to play together for 60 minutes of football. While we did decent in preseason, I think we’ll obviously still have some mistakes but I think we’ll pull off a victory.
I could definitely see this one getting into a shootout. While Bailey and Porter will do their job, I’m more concerned about Big Ben destroying our safeties. I think there are some big questions there and with a deep threat like Wallace..he could get behind our safeties. I’m not as concerned about their rushing attack, I think last year we did decent against the rush, and we’ve improved there in my opinion. I’m exceited to see Manning for a full 4 qtrs.
I don’t know if anyone is doing the score prediction contest but I going with Broncos 23 Steelers 17
I`m sorry to hear about your loss Bronco_Turtle. You`ll be in my prayers bro.
Also, Socal, Sorry for your losses too. Peace my Bronco friend!
Turtle, did you get my prediction? If not 11-5.
Rejoice in the memory of lives of lost loved ones. It’s always hard to lose those people you love, but we are so fourtunate to have had them in our lives. I always smile when I think of grandparents, mom ,dad, my best friend Rick. They all contributed so much to the happiness in my life. I always feel very lucky to have had them for as long as I did.
I’ve been harping for the last couple of years at least for the Broncos to keep 4 RB’s on the roster. With the strong runnng history of the team in a position that is prone to injury I’ve always though depth at the position could be parimont in determining the outcome of the season. Finally, we have a stable of backs that should carry us though the season. I’m interested to see if my theory holds true , when W. McGahee gets nicked up this season we should have less drop off of talent and their are a group of men to chose from that may give us the right way to attack a team on the ground. I might seem trival now but pay big dividends down the road. I’m ready for some Bronco football!
Hey y’all. Hope everyone had a nice weekend. Great article cat! I might be biased, but the NY Times is always well written IMO. I echo your feelings about the run game imready, as it was an early concern of mine (mostly from a durability/depth standpoint), but I’m feeling better about it, and I’m so glad we kept 4 RB’s, plus a FB on the roster.
The thing that will tilt the odds in our favor the most this season is the no huddle offense, and no one does it better than Peyton. When run correctly it’s a huge advantage for the offense, as the defense can not make substitutions, and as a result, they begin to get tired and most importantly get caught in unfavorable match ups. Peyton will be looking for when those mismatches occur, and call the play to exploit it the most. We’re in for some beautiful football folks, and it’s well deserved IMO.
Morning OT. Thats a good observation. You know, Moreno still might be trade bait. The trade deadline is week 8 now. I was talking to a buddy of mine last night and he believes JJ might be back if we trade Moreno. I thought to myself, hmmmm, could be.
Hey strand. I think trading Moreno is a real possibility, and probably a good decision, as next year is his last year under contract, and his salary jumps in his final year. If he can stay healthy and start to put together a good season, his value will increase dramatically.
I know we traded Portis for Bailey, but in the NFL, rarely are players traded for players, especially mid-season, as draft picks is the norm. This is possibly due to the new schemes, and making contracts fit, etc. With that said, the FO will have a tough decision if things go as planned, and we’re looking like a playoff team. While trading players for future draft picks might be prudent, it will be hard call to make if you’re getting ready to make a playoff push…

ALL HAIL THE NECK!!!!!!
Happy Tuesday and warm greetings from Costa Rica, Broncos Country! Tried desperately to rescue my old username O&B but gave up a few months back…
Anyway, great to be back posting and SUPER excited about the BEST time of the year! FOOTBALL SEASON IS FINALLY HERE!
WOOOOOOO!!!!
Back to Back AFC West champs, this year at 12-4! Let’s get it going on Sunday with a 28-10 victory!
Theres a shot it might happen, but a team has to be interested. If Moreno flourishes in Peytons Offense he might be worth keeping. I still say he stinks up the middle.
Hey O&B, cool that your back. New handle huh? Its gonna be a great season. BRONCOS 2012!i!i!i
Trust me, I’m not a Moreno apologist, but I have read articles that claim his troubles stemmed from McD’s switching the blocking scheme of our OL back when he was drafted. Of course, there’s no defending his injuries, and hopefully that is behind him. It will be interesting to see what we do with him that’s for sure!
Just heard that the NFL and the officials union are as much as $70M apart on their negotiations…
Wow…I’d say that’s not even in the same ball park, but that’s not even in the same hemisphere.
Turtle, my condolences brother.
OSS- to clarify one of my BBBP, Von Miller leads league in Defensive TD’s not tackles. Lol (I forgot I mentioned PFM starting 15 games, as he’s rested in #16 for the playoffs)
As for our stable of RBs, I can’t help but think baylin is grinning from ear to ear at that!
For 70 milion? For how long, a 10 year span. WOW! They`ve got to get this figured out. These scab refs are horrible. I still say thay are fighting for pennys. The NFL is a multi-billion dollar industry. This is a joke right?!
Goodell is always talking about the “integrity of the game” and “upholding the NFL shield.” The league, by not coming to an agreement with the ref union are damaging the integrity of the game just as much as an illegal hit or a player having an off the field legal issue. This whole thing is hindering the game from being played at its fullest potential. Players have enough things to worry about from their assignments to the rules, now they have to worry about getting penalties missed or no calls that are called? Referring is always a judgment thing, but the replacement refs just don’t quite cut it. Think of all the calls that are missed by the regular officiating crews, now how will that number change with the replacement refs?
The officiating was unacceptable but livable cause it was only preseason and the games didn’t count……
But starting tomorrow night, the games actually count and team’s seasons are on the line……….there is absoutely no room for the comedy of errors I have witnessed from these replacement refs in the preseason. It takes the highest level of professionals to play this game, and the same can be said for the officials as well. These scrubs don’t understand the nuiances of the game……..I’m not even sure if they understand the rule book actually. They will drag out games, convening after every single flag and it scares me how much will be missed, or the other extreme, how much will be called.
The NFL is a multi billion dollar industry and an issue with the officials just doesn’t make sense. And like you said brian, Goodell states he’s all about the integrity of the game…….and by letting this situation drag into the regular season, he is certainly comprimising that integrity.
I sure now have the upmost respect for the regular NFL referees. The blow a mistake from time to time, but these scab refs are ridiculous. you guys are hitting the nail on the head. we`re not stupid, we have eyes and can see the real thing.
