Titans’ New Head Coach, QB talk Broncos

September 21st, 2011 - 4:11pm by Max Henson

A lot has changed for both the Broncos and Titans since the two franchises met early last season, but the two are set to cross paths in a similar fashion once again in 2011.

A year ago, Denver won a Week 4 matchup in Nashville 26-20 with the Titans coming off a win over the New York Giants.

Now the Broncos are heading to Nashville in Week 3, with the Titans again coming off a victory — this time over the Baltimore Ravens.

“We came in off a big win in New York — we beat the Giants — came into home, where we felt comfortable, where we’re hard to beat — and Denver came in and beat us,” Tennessee Head Coach Mike Munchak said of last year’s meeting with the Broncos. “I think it’s something that you don’t forget.”

“Yes, it’s a lot of different players, different coaches, but it’s still Broncos and Titans; so that’s still a memory that we blew an opportunity.”

Munchak is in his first season as Head Coach of the Titans after serving as the team’s offensive line coach since the 1997 season.

The Titans are also featuring a new quarterback under center, with
Matt Hasselbeck leaving Seattle for Tennessee in the offseason.

Hasselbeck may not have been a Titan last year but he faced the Broncos a season ago as a member of the Seahawks.

The veteran signal caller is well aware of the schematic changes on the Denver defense and he offered a brief breakdown of his next opponent.

“Schematically, defensively, they’re a little bit different,” Hasselbeck said. “I think the thing that sticks out is just the pass rushers, the speed rushers on the edge whether it be (DE Elvis) Dumervil or (LB) Von Miller, that’s really what sticks out.

“They’ve had injuries too, so you don’t see (CB) Champ (Bailey) out there; you don’t see different guys that are good players—you don’t see them on the film. If this team was healthy, this is a really, really talented defense… I think this is a really dangerous team. They could do good things this year.”

I think that the defense will put a lot of pressure on Hasslebeck and CJ2K will get plenty of carries, if the Offense can match the tempo of the Defense and play smart, big time Broncos football we will come out of this at 2-1. my thoughts Broncos 34 Titans 17.

Based on recent Orton history I have a difficult time predicting any offensive redzone touchdowns. I think we will get one defensive pick for a touchdown. I think we can count on Decker to run in a long yardage pass. Our run game will be completely stuffed and there will not be any rushing touchdowns. Approx. 70 yards total on the ground. Orton will pass for around 320 yards and get us into the redzone three times from which Prater will kick 3 Field Goals. Broncos 23.

This offensive performance requires one offensive lineman to dominate and the others hold their own especially against the rush, in spite of their inexperience. I don’t expect the line to look foolish like they did against the Raiders. It will require tightends to be reading the coverage well, pick up the rush, and create a good pockets for Orton to throw from. This is what I expect to happen.

If Mays and Woodyard are able to continue shutting down the running game. Broncos could pull off a Win. But I don’t think so. I think the Titans get in the Redzone often and Hassleback will find wide open receivers. The focus of the Bronco defense will shift in the second half to stopping the pass attack and the Titans will run it in. Titans score 4 touch downs. The 2 in the first half will be passing touchdowns the two in the second half will bee rushing touch downs. Titans – 28

Broncos will win time of possession battle, and will exceed Titan production by more than 100 yards. Broncos offense will look efficient and adequate but boring except for Decker going long. (Replace with Lloyd – if he plays) The defense will look like it is dominating by limiting the run in the first half, but it will give up a lot of yards to screens and short yardage plays. Watch Mays and Woodyard and Dawk – they are worth the price of admission. Count on a slightly above average number of QB sacks – say 4 in this game. Bronco punter will keep Tenn. starting deep in their own territory, or else this could get ugly.

You can count on it – Broncs 23- Titans 28

This is fun this week but from here on out it gets ugly. Not looking forward to Broncs meeting Green Bay.

It depends on who is able to play on Sunday, but if all starters are back we should be in decent shape. Well Moreno can sit, that’s ok. It’ll be a good game either way. Go Broncos!!!
