Three Signed to Future Contracts

January 7th, 2010 - 4:15pm by Gray Caldwell

The team announced on Thursday that center Dustin Fry, guard Matt McChesney (pictured) and punter A.J. Trapasso have been signed to future contracts. They will be officially added to Denver’s roster at the conclusion of the 2009 NFL season in February.

Fry is a second-year center who spent the 2009 season on Carolina’s practice squad. He appeared in four games with St. Louis after being selected in the fifth round of the 2007 NFL Draft, and spent time on the practice squad with Cleveland in 2008.

McChesney spent 2009 training camp with the team before being designated released/injured on Sep. 9. He has also played defensive tackle during an NFL career in which he has seen time on the rosters of Miami, the New York Jets and St. Louis.

Trapasso was a rookie in 2009 who split the season on the practice squad with Tampa Bay and Tennessee. He entered the NFL with Tennessee as a college free agent on May 1 after being a semifinalist for the Ray Guy Award at Ohio State University. He might be best remembered for hitting the video board at the new Cowboys Stadium with a punt for the Titans in the preseason.

  2. schefffffffff says:

i also agree. wtf happened to hillis?

  3. salasj says:

Why was jarvis Moss on the roster?

  4. TruBroncFan07 says:

Lamont like all of the players that MC D brought in so they could establish the type of culture MC D is looking for. Everyone knows that Lamont sucks. Talent has nothing to why they are on the roster. He also needed them around to snitch on the player that were not falling in line. This why Scheff got benched. One of MC D’s boy ratted Tony out.

  5. TruBroncFan07 says:

Anyone want some MC D cool aid? Go Broncos in 2010!

  6. Chaoticblaze27 says:

As a Bronco Fan i am gonnna Respond to your Comments the broncos have players on the Roster for Back up and to be used in diffrent ways and on special teams and some players are inactive because you can only have 45players on the field. And Josh Does use Peyton Hillis and will use more Running backs when are O-Line does a little better at the line of scrimage peyton Hillis and Lamant Jordan wont make a Diffrence if they dont have no where to go so I think and know that Knowshon Moreno and Correl Bulkhalter are doing a good job its not 1 player fault but the whole team’s fault and it can be fixed and i Belieave Josh can Fix it In josh we trust.

  7. broncosinbmore says:

We need to draft Relando McClain. He is sick! A lot of changes needto take place. In a perfect world we will Trade Marshall to Shanahan in Washington for a 1st and a 3rd. Take Dez Bryant and Relando McClain in the first and move on.

  8. papacy808 says:

once again… We didn’t and couldn’t run the stinkin ball… OL run blocking sucks… Rick Dennison ?????

  9. FTR says:

Back on line Bronco Fans. Pluged back in to the net! Sorry I missed all of the KC Game and the end of the season banter! Due to me moving. So now it’s like I told DD it’s “Just wait till next year” Time, and I am ready to talk Draft and what ever true fans here are ready to talk about.> And you guys thought (or wished I had went away) or you just dont care that I feel that I am that important here! >> Ha

    welcome back

  11. nw3030 says:

broncosinbmore, i agree man we def need to take rolando mcclain. he is a beast on the inside. i have been posting that all week long. but the dez bryant thing proably wont happen. but who knows if we get a second first round pick anything could happen.

  12. brian_schneider says:

So I was wondering this, everyone is talking about Shanny going after some of our players, what about our coaches? Dennison and Turner worked well with him and they did great things with the RBs. I sure hope they stay because Moreno needs a good backs coach like Turner.

  13. nw3030 says:

brian_schneider, I think that some of a coaches will be gone. but i think that dennison may go to the texans cuz Kyle shannahan who is the texans oc will proably go to the redskins. but i think turner stays.

  14. xxgracegunnerxx says:

dude enough about hillis…WE GET IT…everyones mad…hes my favorite player..but it is what it is and its not gonna change..and mcd isnt gonna explain why its not gonna change…MOVE ON…and enough about trading marshall…hes too much talent..too much upside…and he’ll be a bargain to keep around in the uncapped year…eesh..i for one would not have much heartburn if turner bounces out…seems like our running game has slipped the past few years anyways…good coaches get stale…maybe its time to re-up…cant wait for next year…WITH orton, marsh, doom, heathy royal, developed moreno, hungry dawk..we just might be nasty…

  15. tjnartw says:

Can’t wait to see what coach and staff do this offseason. But I’ll bet that it’ll be interesting to say the least. I don’t watch college ball so you experts out there will have to keep me informed on who they should pick up in the draft. I always watch the draft very close but my no. 1 interest is the free agency. Can’t wait to hear Jamie Dukes and all of the other specialists out there tell me how bad the Broncos will do this next season.
    Enough said for now except
    GO BRONCOS FOR EVER

  16. sndvl says:

I like Golden Tate from Notre Dame. KC might grab him though…lol! It looks like the QB draft class will be interesting this year. Especially with Bradford and McCoy injuries. The nose tackle from BCS Champion Alabama looks intriguing as well! But, tjnartw, if you want expert advice, Mel Kiper is my choice for the best source!
    GO BRONCOS!!!!!!!!!!

  17. broncofanlvnm says:

I agree that McClain would be a very good pick up IF we have already solved some of the D-line problems, especially NT, before the draft. Part of the reason McClain is so good is because his team mate, Terrance Cody is taking up two and sometimes three blockers, making it easy for a great athlete like him to make the plays. A guy like him will be able to come in and immediately have an impact for us, but we need D-line help first.

  18. brian_schneider says:

Hillis did some good things for us last season. When we had 6 RBs go on the IR he stepped in and did a good job. Everyone needs to remember that he is a FB and was drafted as such. Shanny probably never imagined he’d have to start a rookie FB at HB, or that 6 RBs would go on IR.
Now I would have loved to see him in short yardage because I’m sure he has more power than moreno. We had Buck and Moreno splitting carries, you put another back in there and no one gets in a rythym. I remember when it used to be one back did it all, then we started seeing 2 backs, I haven’t seen too many times when a 3 back rotation works out too well.
Just think what if we didn’t have 6 RBs on on the IR before Hillis? A lot of people probably wouldn’t even know who he was. Nobody would be saying “where’s Hillis”, they’d be saying “who’s Hillis.”

I watched the NT from Alabama last night. Looks pretty good. His weight brings questions. How good is his stamina and durability? Remember I think it was Gilbert Brown for the Packers he was a huge dude that they used to just plug up the middle, and it worked for the most part. Maybe we take a look??

  19. sndvl says:

Hey, was that a Peyton Hillis sighting against KC?!? There is hope!!!!!!

  20. sndvl says:

Hillis and Willis 2010! Go Broncos!!!!!!!!!!

  21. broncofanlvnm says:

Yeah, I remember Gilbert Brown. The Broncos really wore him out in SB XXXII, remember? Terrell Davis was MVP! Sometimes you really got to question the stamina of big men like him and Cody? If he can build stamina anywhere, it would be in the Mile High City, though.

  22. sndvl says:

It even shows him on the side line in the Bronco Team video. “Breathe Gilbert. Cmon baby, Breathe”! I laugh every time I see it! TD, even with a migraine. Thats playing hurt…

  23. Atwater4HOF says:

My vote is for Brian Price from UCLA (DT). I would definitely be happy with McClain though as well. Who knows, with the possible Marshall trade we may have two first rounders and can get both of them. Aerilius (sp?) Benn would be a nice replacement for Marshall in the first round but I think the D does need to be addressed first.

  24. Atwater4HOF says:

Mid to late round QB pickup, Dan Lefevour Central Michigan

  25. Broncoxxx#24 says:

Finally a good punter. A.J is a beast P with a hell of a boot, he also kicks it extremely high.

  26. mad_orange_devil_27 says:

Hillis isn’t THAT good. He really isn’t.

I know he’s a white tailback, get over it.

  27. mad_orange_devil_27 says:

There is no replacement for Brandon Marshall that you can put on the field, nada, none at all. I think he’ll be a perpetual problem maker, but I pray he stays in Denver.

  28. footballMANIAC says:

    I still want Suh.

  29. BeastFromEast92 says:

Don’t get rid of the “BEAST” or we’ll be very sorry,Gaffney can’t play like he did every week,he damn sure ain’t no Brandon Marshall.I say give him all the money he wants, without him we will surely go downhill on offense.

  30. BeastFromEast92 says:

I like Cody(if he’s willing to commit to losing about 30 or 40 pounds).Suh won’t be there long enough for us to get. He’ll probably go in the top 3 picks.

  31. codybleedsorangeandblue says:

After we address D in FA and 1st and 2nd rounds…I still think we should nab Toby Gerhart from Stanford. Cut Buckhalter since he cant stay healthy and then we have 2 young RBs one with speed and vision and the other with power and vision….good combo. As far as Cody is concerned, the man is a force. He didnt have any injury problems this year or any other year as far as I know and he takes up space, requires double teams, and he blocks extra points….that is who i go after. Maybe we can trade Scheffler for a 1st round pick and get McClain and Cody.

  32. footballMANIAC says:

I agree that there is no replacement for Brandon Marshall, but I think he’ll quit causing problems once he gets a new contract (a big one). And he and McDaniels need to get used to each other. But I doubt that will happen since McDaniels handled this idiotically. WHY would you alienate the best player on your team right when you need to resign him? Don’t blame him for your team falling apart. That’s on you.

  33. BeastFromEast92 says:

    Exactly right, FootballManiac….

  34. footballMANIAC says:

I don’t know anything about Cody, but there’s no way Scheffler gets a 1st rounder. Maybe a 2nd, but even that is pushing it as even though he’s good, he hasn’t really been proven outside of last year.

  35. BeastFromEast92 says:

We need to keep all of our good players on offense and go defense in the draft if we wanna be good next year.DL and LB.

  36. codybleedsorangeandblue says:

footballMANIAC – I was being optimistic about a first rounder…maybe I was just dreaming….either way I think Scheffler is done as a Bronco

  37. BeastFromEast92 says:

I hate to see him go,he’s the best pass catching TE in the league.IMO,Graham or the rookie can’t take his place.

  38. BeastFromEast92 says:

But it dosen’t matter about Marshall or Sheffler if we don’t have a consistant QB that can get them the ball, every time Orton tries to throw a lot of deep balls he ends up throwing ints(3 last week).

  39. BeastFromEast92 says:

But on the other hand if our O-line was blocking better our screen passes bubble passes and short yardage plays would work a lot better also,so Orton wouldn’t have to throw deep so much, also if we didn’t give up so many yards on Defense he wouldn’t have to throw as much either. All things said we need (D-line) help bad.

  40. BeastFromEast92 says:

Does anybody know if the Patriots have signed Wilfork? to a extended contract or not,or if he’s going to be available in free agency, sure would be nice to get him.Even if we get a good NT in the draft or free agency we still need depth on the D-line,those big guys need rest from time to time.

  41. BeastFromEast92 says:

I heard that Richard Seymour is a free agent next year also.

  42. Atwater4HOF says:

Mad Orange… didn’t say Marshall and Benn are equal, I was referring to grooming a new number 1 wideout with the height and physical attributes similiar to Marshall. Hard to be a good passing team with all small guys. Benn was a beast without a good quarterback, just like Marshall. It’d be ignorant to say he doesn’t have the potential to be as good as Marshall

  43. BDawk20 says:

NO NO NO, im telling you all, yes I might be new to blogging on here, but I was often in the chat room talking throughout the game on a old name. Listen Colquit and this dude is not the answer, im a Nebraska fan…..believe it or not, if Alex Henery goes to the draft which its up in the air right now, I really believe we should take a hard look at him, he kicks 55 with ease, kicked 58 winner in colorado, he PUNTS to, not saying hes better then Matt because I love Matt hes the best (screw you Nate Kaeding) but this guy is so versitle say Matt gets a hammy? We got a punter and a good kicker in Alex….just if he goes to draft, on past blog I wrote I thought Alex was a senior so really if he doesnt then I dont say get a punter/kicker because I dont know one out there that has showed me they can kick in the NFL. Not being bias at all, youtube this guy or look at his career long and all thing hes a plum studd, not alot of guys get mentioned before everygame as playmakers when introducing the lineups lol…but he did everygame with my boi KING KONG Suh

  44. casinoroyal19 says:

if we are talking about punters on here then we probly should be looking into Zoltan Mesko from Michigan. Hes got a boot man

  45. broncos20 says:

Beast, keep watching Seymour..if the Raiders dont lock him up, McD and Nolan will be trying to bring him in for our 3-4 defense. same can be said for Wilfork, who will be a FA this offseason if the Pats dont lock him up. It would be good to get them this year, while they are still dominantating. I’m still for Peppers as a possible 3-4 OLB in Denver, though its a long long shot.

Draft Mclain. He’ll be one of the smartest MLB years to come. No injuries so far, and no off field issues that I’ve heard of…hopefully…oh and yea, theres no way Scheff’s value is that of a 1st rounder..

  46. iowa-bronco says:

ok i actully am going to go a different direction then most of u and say we should get a wideout with first round pick (if have another first-rounder get mcclain) who else besides marshall has produced this season i mean even if we do keep marshall we still need another wide recevier unless gaff’s performance against kc was a sign of things to come. let me know wat u think

  47. mad_orange_devil_27 says:

iowa – It was pretty clear that the passing offense was focused on getting Brandon Marshall the ball. Royal, Gaffney, Stokley, and the others can produce. We could use more talent at WR, but in my view, it’s the last of our concerns.
