The Broncos trimmed their roster Monday when they waived Toney Baker, Kirk Barton and Patrick Carter.
Baker signed with the team in April as a college free agent out of N.C. State. The running back registered a pair of special teams tackles in the preseason opener at Cincinnati but did not have a carry in either of the first two preseason contests.
The team was awarded Barton, an offensive lineman, off waivers from Detroit on July 7.
Carter, a wide receiver, joined the squad on August 5. He did not record a catch in either preseason game.

Eight more days until the real cuts. GO BRONCO`S!!!
Yup, things are about to get real serious real quick. 3rd preseason game. Gonna be hard fought. People are fighting for a future here.
There go the Camp fodder
And what pray tell is a camp fodder?
Havent posted in a while, so heres some thoughts on the preseason.
Orton, always liked the guy, gonna get his jersey because he is a class act. He looks solid out there, personally I wish he was a franchise QB if Tebow dont work maybe he will be, I know Bay aint gonna agree lol.
Quinn, personally dont like the guys style he justt seems nervous.
Tebow, no comment.
Offensive line, if healthy soon should be good, able to open up some holes with a little experience, I see us passing early and running more down the stretch. Once some of these guys get a little game experience and gell a little more we shoud be set.
Wide Recievers, good depth like Willis with some experience he could be the new slot machine ka-ching lol. Nice to see an 87 on the field but someone should tell him Ole Eddie never would have slid.
Defense cant say as to that yet. As stated in other blogs its base defense, so we cant really make any assumptions except one.
Champ will be Champ, nuff said.
Cant wait to see who the starters are gonna be, Cant wait for that first game. Its getting hard to sit still in Broncos Country, and the forecast is suspossed to be getting cooler in Denver so IT REALLY IS STARTING TO FEEL LIKE ITS TIME FOR SOME GOOD OLD FASHION SMASHMOUTH FOOTBALL UR-RAH.
GO BRONCOS IN 2010 A NEW ERA HAS JUST BEGUN!!!!!
P.S. With that hit during the forward pass in the first game for Tebow all I can say is Welcome to the NFL Rookie.
Bay I saw your posts earlier haha I feel the exact same way man. Sometimes the realistic approach hurts a little but it’s the truth. Hard to fully judge them since half the team is hurt. But we can judge their health and investing in injury prone players get you just that, injured players. I pray buck stays healthy cause his 5 yards a carry average is needed. He’s yet to play a season with injury though!
Without injury*
You gotta cut off the rough edges to get to the Smooth!!!!!!!!!
Sorry guys good luck to you landing elsewhere!
Gotta crack a few eggs to make an omlet, eh BFE! Lol
Wow predictions coming in already! That’s hardcore fandemonium! I must admit, I love it. Only in BRONCOS COUNTRY!
While I will be rooting for a blowout Bronco victory, if memory serves me correct, they have all been nail biting, grind it out, immaculate deflecting, no time left on the clock FG kicking, low scoring affairs!!! And I expect nothing less this year in the hot, sticky, you can chew the air humidity that is Jacksonville in early September.
Sorry, no score prediction for me quite yet. To many unknowns thus far. However, I will opine about my 5 keys to a successful season (since I can’t wait to share)
1. Get healthy
2. Stop the run
3. Stay healthy
4. STOP THE RUN
5. Beat Oakland at HOME
GO BRONCOS 2K10!!!!!!!!!!
It’s Presason Ya all!!
FTR
Relax!
FTR
sndvl….I will agree, stop the run and get healthy! and beat the f’n Raiders at home for Godsake!!!!!!!!!!
Alright….FTR…now I’m relaxed.LOL.
well I think we are doing pretty good and as for Brady he looks the same way Orton looked last preseason, now look at Orton.I think the offensive system must have a steep learning curve maybe we will get to see some more this year of why Bowlen thought Mc D was such a prodigy,as for Cutler and Marshall thought I would miss them more but honestly the guys we have now have ten times the heart they ever will. The D looks good Bailey is like 88 said just that a HOF lol…..at least that’s what I think.this was a very deep class Parrish Cox was a fifth rounder and he looks better then Alphonso smith,I can’t wait to see Moreno tearing it up on the field it’s going to be sick
PS:I still think Quinn is going to win the super bowl here but I guess we shall see……
The only way Quinn would be winning a superbowl here is holding a clipboard, LOL.
Broncosfolife88, you need to do more reading, this is what I posted yesterday about Orton on the Cooper blog:
As far as Orton, well deserved of the high price one year extension. It now evenly compensates him for his season last year and this one where he’s been paid peanut fees for a starting QB. But Obviously McD wants to leave the door open for his grand scheme long run with Tebow, but if that doesn’t come through he can fall back on Orton and sign him long term in a couple years, so vey smart move by the Broncos, they put themselves in a no loss situation with this signing.
Point is I believe anything is possible even Orton being the man long term, but only if Tebow can’t.
With the 53 man roster looming on the horizon, the DP posted how many players we kept by position last year:
3 quarterbacks, 4 running backs, 9 offensive linemen, 6 wide receivers, 3 tight ends; 7 defensive linemen, 9 linebackers (including Spencer Larsen), 4 cornerbacks, 5 safeties; and 3 specialists.
Since Larsen is now a full time Fullback, I wonder if we might keep 5 RB’s this year. I would.
BTW, with these three cuts we are now down to 77 players, so there are only two players to cut by August 31st deadline of 75, so no big deal. The big deall will be to decide what other 22 to cut by September 4th, and that’s why the starters hardly play at all in the last preseason game, that game is THE game for the other guys to show whether they deserve a spot on the roster or not, it’s for all the marbles for them.
It seems to me that Branson is starting over Larsen at fullback. I have not seen every preseason game in its entirety but in the first quarter I have seen a lot of Branson and no Larsen. I know Branson is more of a H back (running pass routes) but I still don’t understand Larsen’s role. Maybe they plan on using him with the first team running backs. And since we have not had our first team running backs he is not playing?
I’m just thinking to myself and was wondering if Baylin or one of you other guys had some insight.
Word just in….we just released Akin Ayodele and the next starting ILB will be either Joe Mays or Wesley Woodyard..
I prefer Wesley only because I feel he’s ready, knows the system longer that Mays and with him being a Captain he’s already the team favorite….who would you guys perfer??
Larsen is now reported as the lone Fullback on the roster, while Branson can line up as a fullback also, he is a full time TE and has been out there mainly as a receiving TE which is what we were all hoping for since we need to replace Scheffler. I guess the reason we haven’t seen much of Larsen is, as we well know, McD doesn’t use fullbacks very often, maybe he is holding back on that to hold some of his cards for the regular season, but you are correct, haven’t seen much of Larsen so far.
Ayodele must of had something about him coach didn’t like, more than just performance since he was one of the most experienced LB acquisition this off season, not just a practice squad player like so many others, he actually had a pretty impressive resume, latest with Miami. He maybe had an attitude problem, work ethic problem or something is all I can figure, little strange since Haggan, Mays and Woodyard don’t exactly make me confident about our LB’s corp.
Something is amiss here, this is the latest depth chart on this website at ILB and Ayodele was first team:
DJ and Ayodele, first team
Woodyard and Mays, second team
Worrell and Johnny Williams, third team
He must of really p!ssed McD off, no doghouse, straight out of the house!!!
So starting LBs are Ayers-DJ-Haggan-Moss??? with Woodyard,Mays, and Kirlew as backups???
Is this correct or is there anyone else in the equation???
W.Williams and J.Williams backups too???
This is what Ayodele just said about the release:
“They released me this morning. They coaches couldn’t really give me an explanation. To tell you the truth I was really caught off guard. They said I did everything right, but that they just wanted to go a different route. That is the last thing I would expect because I started the last two preseason games. This is the first time this has happened to me like this, but I have to stay encouraged the same way I have encouraged other guys over the years. They told me they let go of me early out of respect so other teams can have more time to get at me. Right now I’m truly just as shocked as you are.”
And I was just posting yesterday that I hoped McD had grown up in his handling of players, and here we go, McD better give an explanation about this otherwise I’ll assume he has made no improvements in his handling of players whatsoever, just saying….
Hey Beast92…Haggans is moving back outside…its an open competition for the spot next to DJ..so its Ayers,DJ…open…Haggan as of right now
McD is making me not like him so much again, dumb moves keep coming.Once you think he’s learning from mistakes,he comes up with a blockhead move again,we don’t have any depth at ILB,and he gets rid of prob the best one we had, dumba**!!!!!!!
Moss?????????????
BFE list of all LB’s:
OLB1 Mario Haggan Jarvis Moss Baraka Atkins Jammie Kirlew
Elvis Dumervil
MLB D.J. Williams Wesley Woodyard Worrell Williams Joe Mays Johnny Williams
OLB2 Robert Ayers Kevin Alexander Jason Hunter Darrell Reid
Baylin…I thought Hunter was a DE,why would you take someone with 5 sacks last year and move him from DE to OLB??
Yeah, Haggan did move back outside, in last game he kept getting beat on all the outside runs, LOL.
Anyway we still have pretty good depth at LB,forgot about some of those guys, but nobody really sticks out as a quality backup.IMO
Hard enough coming up with 4 starting LBs that can pressure the QB,that’s our biggest problem right now,and stopping the run isn’t looking to good either.
Yeah Haggan is to slow to be outside,I thought Moss was looking good enough to start opposite of Ayers.
I can’t wait till Doom and Reid both are healthy, best 2 pass rushing LBs we have!
Well with the way moss played last week I wouldn’t be upset to see how he does with the starters! Does anyone know if demaryius will play…tebow too?
our you kidding me there isnt a wr on the roster that can fill marhsalls shoes cutler ya but marshall no
Ayers, Haggan, DJ, Mosservil
Woodyard is DJ’s backup at 222 lbs, that’s awful light for an ILB,kinda hard to stop OLinemen at that size, don’t ya think???
take that back theres maybe one if they play him right thats big time eddie royal go broncos an they should put woodyard in elvis spot until hes back
We should be able to at least see where we stand next Sunday against the Steelers,if we don’t look any better than we have,I will be disappointed. If Tebow is healthy I think we play Orton 1st half and Tebow entire 2nd half,Quinn is gonna be a flop,as bad as it pains me to say it.I’d like to see Tebow play with the 1st stringers to see what he really has to offer, just me.
I agree nitewolf but thats just me. None of the WRs can fill Marshalls shoes (yet, maybe bay bay but only time will tell), they just dont have the talent (lets be honest). But luckily McD said in a press conference like a week ago, that the goal is to NOT have a number 1 reciever (Which is funny cuz thats what Bay Bay sounds like he was drafted to be). So I guess according to McDs funny logic, it works out for him in the end.
Still gotta lotta question marks going into this season, hard to tell when half the Damn team is injured,we need to get healthy fast!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!I’m gone!
And Gaffney is not even close to the caliber of the BEAST period!
steveatwater5
Yea, Cox is good and he was a fifth round pick, but in all honesty he shoulda been at LEAST a second round pick like phonzy was the year before. But because he ran a slow 40 and had some character concerns because he missed curfews in college and was suspended from a bowl game. He dropped that low. But he was definitely one of the Best DBs/Specialists in College last year. But as we see from that return, he may not have track speed but he has game speed and his lateral movement to the side is impressive. So to much for the 40, and as far as the curfew thing goes, not a big deal, he was a college kid.
Not one player will fill the hole left by Marshall. It will take all the WR’s to do that.
Gaff is really emerging, Deck looks promising, Lloyd is good, he just seems to disappear at times. Royal, seems to be coming off his slump, Willis is a pleasant surprise and don’t forget our #1 pick Bay Bay.
Interesting to see folks discussing the WR’s so much, since them and our backfield is about the only positions I don’t really worry about. I don’t see what the big fuss is about losing Marshall, he was a nightmare off the field, I could care less that he is gone, but I would imagine we are going to have to sit here and read about him all year since this is a free country, making me sad…
McDaniels: “We’re going to move Mario (Haggan) back inside.”
sounds like Jarvis has earned the other outside spot.
I think McD saw all he wanted to see of Haggan outside, you wouldn’t know that TRB since you didn’t see the last game, but Haggan was plain awful outside.
Akin Adoyle released today…. Think some one else will be coming in? And I thought he played quiet well for us, had eight combined tackles in the two games and started both.
I see the comments above. Good reporting.
OrangeAndBlue,
Didnt know about Ayodele. From the stats I had seen, he seemed to be doing good as well especially in the tackles. But we cant keep em all I suppose, and Woodyard has established himself and is younger. Hopefully Worrell Williams does well or he could be the next to go, but I think he will AT LEAST have a year on the practice squad, because his brother is a bronco. So that will buy him some time to prove his worth and if he doest, he will be gone as well. Sounds like they favor Joe Mays over Ayodele, prolly more so for special teams…
Ryan Clady and Lendale will return for practice 2mrw but Clady might not play sunday but im shocked he’s practicing at all (its all a little ahead of schedule) but im not complaining..lol
Also Bucky, Champ, Bay-Bay thomas, Kuper and DJ Williams will return to practice today…but Tim Tebow won’t practice today
There has been a new blog for a while now about the injuries progress.
