Three Broncos Named HOF Semifinalists

November 22nd, 2011 - 4:06pm by Gray Caldwell

The semifinalists for the Pro Football Hall of Fame Class of 2012 were announced Tuesday, and three Broncos made the list.

Steve Atwater, Terrell Davis and Karl Mecklenburg are among the 26 modern-era candidates still in the running to head to Canton, Ohio.

For Atwater and Mecklenburg, it’s the first time the two have been named semifinalists.

Atwater was voted to a franchise record-tying seven consecutive Pro Bowls during his career, serving as a defensive leader on the Broncos’ back-to-back Super Bowl championship teams.

Davis rushed for at least 1,000 yards in each of his first four seasons, including his 2,008-yard season in 1998 when he earned league MVP honors. He also was part of the Super Bowl XXXII and XXXIII squads.

Mecklenburg spent 12 seasons with the Broncos, starting 141 career games, a total that includes all 16 games in a year during five different campaigns. He played in six Pro Bowls and helped the Broncos reach the postseason seven times, including three Super Bowl berths.

All three players are Broncos Ring of Famers.

The next step in the process sees the list shortened to 15 modern-era finalists with an announcement in January.

The final class will be named at the Hall of Fame Selection Committee’s annual meeting on Saturday, Feb. 4, in Indianapolis the day before Super Bowl XLVI.

not sure why everyone wants to know if TT will be the starter next season, or if he’ll be the broncos franchise QB.

We’ve still got 6 games to go………..and we’re in the midst of a playoff berth……….I couldn’t care less about next year at this point. I’m just concentrating on the present and immediate future……….as the events that take place over the next 6 games will be a major factor as to how things unfold in the off-season.

    GO BRONCOS!

    ***RECIPE FOR VON TEBOW FOOTBALL***

    INGREDIENTS:

    1. VON MILLER
    2. TIM TEBOW
    3. A STRONG BELIEF IN SMASH MOUTH FOOTBALL

    PROCESS:

Step 1: Start out with a healthy dose of TIM TEBOW & Co. running the ball down opposing D’s Throats for about 20 minutes of game time in the first half… Score once to get the opposing Coach and QB ancy and playing from behind (7 points isn’t alot but physcologically behind is behind)

Step 2: Release the VON DOOM… You want to be sure not to release too much VON DOOM as your game may spoil from lack of competition, but it is important to tenderize the opposing QB to the point of flinching, rendering him essentially useless…

Step 3: Watch as your team rises to the occasion taking it’s Que’s from the two SuperStar for which this Dish is named and gets better in all aspects of the game…

Step 4: Sprinkle on a little Special Special Teams… and Bake for 60 minutes… *NOTE… it is very important to let it go the whole sixty minutes, because if you give up on it early you will be missing out on something special!!!

Step 5: Relish for years to come!!!

and that is a simple Recipe for VON TEBOW FOOTBALL!!!

    *SAVE THE TEBOW!!!*

Two things. I wonder why they have not made the announcement here that they signed Weber from the practice squad to take Orton’s spot on the roster, and two, how many of you think that Quinn will actually be the next man up in the event Tebow goes down? With Weber coming off the practice squad, I see Weber being the next man up instead of Quinn.

  4. Yovi21 says:

I agree killer, and honestly if Tebow wins more than 2 of our last 6 and we trade him I probably wouldn’t support Elway farther, I like john, but sometimes I see glimpses of his inexperience as a front office man. Mark my words, Tebow will be a dominant force in the NFL someday whether it be with the Broncos or not. Elway needs to put his pride behind him on this one.

I don’t know that we are going to bring up Webber from the PS… We may bring in another safety or RB as those are two areas of concern now with many players in those groups nursing injuries..

The Broncos will sign rookie quarterback Adam Weber from their practice squad to replace Orton on the roster, according to two team sources.

  7. Bronco_Turtle says:

Did they sign him to active already? or is that the report from yesterday speculating that they might?

  8. Bronco_Turtle says:

Either Way, from what the reports say the kid throws a real good ball in Practice… I already like him better than the ‘O’…

Broncos 24 Chargers 17, Rivers 3 picks (2 to Champ)

  10. seweatherman1 says:

It was from this morning. They posted it at 4:17 a.m. It says they will sign, so I take that meaning they haven’t yet but plan to.

I said they meaning The Denver Post.

  12. stevecan2 says:

shanny and kyle thought they saw enough in rex to keep him at qb1. they are obviously really confident in their coaching ability. tebow has qualities that keep rex from being a competitor. shanny knows it.however I agree that he is not in a position to take the tebow risk. unless of course schneider backs it 100%. also can happen considering he allowed j campbell years before giving him the boot. Unlikely as it seems in the end, i am going with the convential wisdoklm. Ko will not be a redskin

  13. seweatherman1 says:

If KO is not taken on waiver by 2 p.m. he becomes a free agent, and collects his remaining 2+ mil from the Broncos. If he doesn’t get a contract to his liking, he isn’t going anywhere except to his home and sit with his new baby. He isn’t going anyplace to be a potential back-up to anybody, and he isn’t going to don anyone’s uniform for minimum salary.

From the ESPN Blog… Funny these two are just getting started

With Da Bears offensive line, Orton won’t last one game, he’s just not mobile at all….more

  15. Bronco_Turtle says:

It’s karma that whatever team Orton goes to will play and beat the Raiders this year… Orton owes us that much after 12-21…

  16. stevecan2 says:

I have heard nothing but positive things aboit weber. I can’t link from my phone but the nfl dot com archives of draft coverage said that the biggest fault of his was playing for minnesota and the lack of interest/funds to have a top caliber agent represent him. Also that he has touch on his passes that bring a tear to the eye. Lol

  17. Bronco_Turtle says:

What does Bronco Country think of Tyler Wilson? the QB out of Arkansas? Seems to be a baller… Accurate and a stand in pocket passer that has good mobility… Just a name for some of the non-hardcore guys to look into… Saturday he plays LSU, so there will be lots of Pro-Level Talent in that game to watch!

Quiet in here today… so far

  18. OrangeTsunami says:

I’m sure everyone knows this already, but Weber played with Decker at MN, so you have to figure that those two have some serious chemistry..

I’m all for giving Tebow this year and start next year, but if it breaks down, I think Weber is our guy
