They Come In Bunches

October 21st, 2012 - 11:28am by Sam Davis

Two weeks into the regular season, defensive end Elvis Dumervil had yet to record a sack. He was questioned all week about it, and repeated the same message every time.

“When it comes, it comes in bunches,” he said.

Dumervil went on to record five sacks in the next four games.

Following a season-high six takeaways against San Diego, the Denver defense believes that turnovers come in bunches as well, and that Monday night was only the beginning.

“Sacks and turnovers are kind of the same,” defensive end Derek Wolfe said. “Once you get one or two, they start coming in bundles. Hopefully we just keep it rolling.”

The team’s poor turnover differential, sitting at minus-6 heading into the matchup with the Chargers, was a key factor behind its 2-3 start. It was missing the big play.

But finally, the big plays came pouring in at the perfect time. Down 24-0 at halftime, the Broncos forced five turnovers in the second half, six in the game. Two of those turnovers, a fumble and an interception, were returned for touchdowns. On the night the defense forced and recovered two fumbles and intercepted four passes.

Safety Rahim Moore said the outburst began with players getting after the football in practice, which translated to the game.

“We were due, but it started in practice,” Moore said. “One thing about turnovers, once you get one they all come in bunches. We want to keep doing that. It seems the more turnovers we have, we always win the game.”

Harris recorded two of the team’s four passes on Monday night, running his second one back for his first career touchdown to seal the victory. Though it was a long time coming, Harris believes it’s only the beginning.

“We’ve been waiting the whole time to just get a big splurge on interceptions,” he said. “They come in bunches and I think we can keep them coming.”

I know it’s off subject but has anyone else noticed Knowshon’s jersey’s are all on sale? Is there a trade in the near future? Something has to give here….The Broncos can’t keep paying this guy to not suit up.

If they do trade him it will be for probably a 4th or 5th round pick or the unlikely possiblity of another player. The thing is Moreno has shown flashes but nothing consitent. The Broncos aren’t showcasing him either. My guess is they’ll try and trade but after the deadline they might just flat out release him. Can’t say I would be sad to see him go. He really didn’t do the #27 any justice with his inconsitent, injury ridden performances. Bust!

  9. monodono says:

Maybe McDaniels in New England wants him for Vince Wilfork!?!

  10. brian_schneider says:

Haha, you know the worst part about it is then all of a sudden Moreno would start playing like a first round pick.

That was a savage hit Cutler took from Suh. Most people don’t get up from something like that, much less finish the game. It seemed fitting that the final play from the Lions ended with Stafford’s face mask full of grass.

Pro bowl voting has started. Time to get our deserving Broncos to the pro bowl!

  13. brian_schneider says:

    Champ
    Clady
    Manning
    Miller

Not necessarily in that order, but those are the ones that are most deserving.

  14. brian_schneider says:

    Oh, and Matty P!

  15. alaskanbronco06 says:

DMT and Doom are deserving IMO as well.

Dumervil, with the exception of the SD game, really hasnt’ quite found his groove yet. DMt will probably end up having a career season, if he can continue to hold on to the ball. Those are good candidates as well.
