The Future of Fantasy

June 2nd, 2010 - 4:21pm by Eric Detweiler

The NFL season is just around the corner, which means fantasy football season will be here even sooner.

This season, NFL.com is out to make one of its most popular features even better.

For the 2010 season, NFL.com is the home of the official NFL fantasy football game, and it won’t just be your average fantasy platform.

The biggest addition — it will be the world’s only NFL fantasy game with video, including extensive in-game highlights.

Now, when Knowshon Moreno busts out an 80-yard touchdown run, you can celebrate the fantasy points he earned you while watching the highlight.

NFL.com will provide two free platforms. NFL Custom League lets fans customize a league with their friends, while NFL-Managed League will be a league run by NFL.com that will allow fans to win official NFL prizes.

The game will feature free and fast live scoring, as it is tied to the league’s GSIS — Game Statistics and Information System — meaning the score updates will be almost instantaneous.

In another new feature, for the first time ever, player projections will be tied to Madden NFL 11. As player ratings change on the video game, player projections are adjusted on NFL.com for the most up-to-date information.

NFL.com also has the game-day inactives and injury reports before any other site, provides users with a drag-and-drop function to simplify roster adjustments, and will provide a comprehensive “Activity Feed” for each player and league.

The feed contains breaking news about each player’s fantasy team, transactions, injury reports, discussions and league-manager changes all in one place.

Click here to get started — it’s never too early.

I’ve already joined in. Hopfully I can win this year! GO BRONCOS!!!

  2. footballMANIAC says:

I don’t see how fantasy football relates to Madden

  3. bronconolan24 says:

this’ll be my first year playing. is it difficult to learn?

  4. Orange_Crusher says:

“Moreno busts out an 80-yard touchdown run”? Wow? Now that’s real “fantasy” football… like fantasy island football, maybe.. lol

Na, just kidding. I really hope Moreno has it in him to bust out several long TD runs this season. It’s just that after seeing his performance last year, I am very leary about believing he can do an 80 yard TD run…..?

So, show me up KM! Lets see you find the gaps, see the light in between blockers and Burst throught the holes and put your foot into the pedal for the distance. You need Supurb peripheral vision and awareness with cat like reflexes to do this. IS IT IN YOU MORENO????

Watch some video of Terrell Davis to see the master of VISION. TD’s eyes were his greatest attribute…jomho

I LOVE ME SOME DENVER BRONCOS!!!

  5. footballMANIAC says:

Ha ha, that’s exactly what I thought when I read it, OC. It is possible, but I’ll believe it when I see it.

  6. bronco-blaze says:

So im in cancun right now, and i was sporting my bronco shirt. I was so surpised how many denver fans are down here, its awesome!!

    SIIIIGN DOOM!

  7. baylinorcrush says:

Yeah, Moreno running for an 80 yard TD would require to be in some type of fantasy world, at least for now. Last year he only had 2 runs over 20 yards in 247 carries, his longest run of the season was for 36 yards, only 44 to go, LOL.

  8. samoanbronco says:

    Anyone starting up a league?

  9. MarshMelo15 says:

Bronconolan24…..Fantasy Football is very easy to learn and it is really fun to do because it makes all of the football games exciting as opposed to just the Bronco games. Although none of the other games are nearly as exciting as Bronco games.

MANIAC….I don’t understand how Madden 11 really ties into it either. That’s just weird.

  10. 19bk90 says:

i’ll lol at you haters when he does break an 80 yd run

  11. baylinorcrush says:

Haters??? Whatever tickles your fancy… We talk of what we see on the field is all, we will all love it if he ever does break one for 80, childish remark dude. 2:42 am post tells me it was probably booze or other type of buzz induced, no haters Bronco anything here, just nothing but 36 years of pure non bandwagon fan rooting for the Broncos, from Floyd Little to Bucky and Moreno. You probably won’t be up til the afternoon, but I still had to address the hater thing, bad word in my Bronco dictionary, use it for the Raiders or the Chargers fans instead.

  12. denverbro89 says:

Anyone creating their own league, I’m down to join.

  13. florio's_mom says:

KM will rip off an 85 yarder as soon as Orton throws a 75 yard bomb. :P

  14. baylinorcrush says:

    Funny stuff florio!

  15. florio's_mom says:

Its plain and simple, KM isn’t that guy. More likely he scores 3 TDs in a game before he scores one 85 yard TD.

  16. brian_schneider says:

bronconolan24: I came in 2nd or “1st loser” last year in my league, which was the first time I’d ever done fantasy football. It isn’t hard at all, if you want to take the time to look into players, matchups, previous stats all that stuff, it is actually pretty fun. A lot of time it is luck, for instance, I had Stokely in my starting lineup last season against Cinci, that “imaculate reception” pretty much won my matchup for me. It is really a good time, especially if you do it with your friends, gloating and bragging are so much more fun in person. LOL!!

  17. footballMANIAC says:

How time consuming is a league?

  18. brian_schneider says:

footballMANIAC: It really depends on how much or little time you want to put into it. If you’re the type to go investigate stats, matchups, players all that stuff to decide who you want to draft or start it most likely would consume more time that say a person that just sets their starting lineup with “whoever.”

I THINK THE STAFF FOR THIS SITE IS GREAT.

BUT DONT TRANSCRIBE A VIDEO OF AN INTERVIEW SESSION INTO A TOP STORY. ITS BORING AND REDUNDANT.

  20. BeastFromEast92 says:

fantasy football takes up a LOT of time,if you’re wanting to be good.If you’re not willing to spend a LOT of time on it,you best not do it,cause you’re wasting your time, believe me.

we had one from last year made up of bloggers from this site…. which i should have won but due to some poor play from eli in the fantasy playoffs… i lost

  23. footballMANIAC says:

Roethlisberger has pledged to be a better person:
    http://msn.foxsports.com/nfl/story/ben-roethlisberger-wants-to-make-the-most-of-second-chance-060310

I don’t buy it for a second. If you’re so set on fixing your reputation, why haven’t you apologized for your actions? Why haven’t you apologized to your team? Why haven’t you apologized to your disappointed fans? Why have you not once said the words “I was wrong”? He’ll have to try a lot harder than that to convince me. We’ve seen in the past that Roethlisberger tends to give his word freely; after his motorcycle wreck, he pledged to always wear his helmet. He was seen the next week riding his motorcycle-guess what- with no helmet. It was actually caught on film, but the footage wasn’t released because the news company didn’t want to damage their relationship with the Steelers organization.

  24. skivett says:

Every year I play in 2 fantasy leagues. In 1 league I draft as many Broncos players as I can, in the other I try to build the best team possible, Broncos or whoever. In Shanahan/Cutlers last season in Denver, my mostly Broncos team went 14-0, then lost in the playoffs.

For those that might not have time to track a fantasy football league there is an option to join this site.http://lasvegas.profootball.upickem.net/profootball/registration/login.asp it is just a pick your winners type thing put I played last year and it was fun. I could look into forming a Bronco site group if anybody is interested. You can post comments after the games.

  30. baylinorcrush says:

Right now you can win your bet in Vegas if you pick us to go 8-8 and we actually do so:

The Las Vegas Hilton Sports Book has put the Broncos’ over/under win total at 7 1/2 for the 2010 season. The San Diego Chargers are at 11 wins. The Hilton put the Broncos at 7 1/2 wins last year, too, although that number plunged to 6 1/2 after Kyle Orton’s early preseason struggles, and Brandon Marshall’s preseason suspension caused a flood of bets on the under. The Broncos started 6-0, but finished with an 8-8 record. Colorado native Jay Kornegay, who is the director of the Hilton Sports Book, said that while the Broncos have an easier schedule in 2010 than in 2009, there remains too much uncertainty in Denver. ”There’s an “if’’ at almost every position,’’ Kornegay said. “”Every time our guys got together, that word came up. It’s a big, two-letter word in that Bronco camp.’’

Hard to argue the “if” thing, in what is now in essence our second straight rebuliding year it is expected to have a bunch of ifs, that’s the nature of going with a brand new coaching staff and a majority of new players while releasing your mainstay players. The Broncos have no choice but to prove everyone that what they are doing is the right thing and only wins will answer all the question marks that all the ifs provide. I am thinking one half or one and a half games better for the season record myself (8-8/9-7, waiting for final QB pick for my prediction). So, in reality last year with my 8-8 prediction, if I had put a bet on it in Vegas I would of won, and with the way I’m thinking this year, if we finish 8-8 I’d win also, seems easy enough, but as FTR knows my betting days are over and I highly do not recommend the betting practice to anyone, in the end you’ll always lose, take my word and experience for it.

Anyway, I figured posting the Vegas odds of us winning 7 and a half games and San Diego 11 would get the blog going for today, LOL.

  31. brian_schneider says:

So if they have SD winning 11, us winning 7 1/2, what do they have OAK and KC winning?

  32. baylinorcrush says:

Brian, I couldn’t find that info so far (busy mowing the lawn), but what I did find in Vegas are the odds to win the super bowl for teams in our division which are as follows:

    San Diego 11/1
    Denver 50/1
    Oakland 80/1
    Kansas City 90/1

So it seems as they think we are better than both Oakland and KC with KC taking last place.

  33. sndvl says:

KC at 90-1. Weird. Didnt they thrash us, at home? An emerging star at RB, backed up by Jones. That doesnt make any sense to me, especially having Oakland rated higher.
50-1 seems about right for us. 7 and a half wins? How do we get a half a win? Is that a tie. So if we go 7-8-1 is it a push?
Baylin you dont ALWAYS lose. Unless you lose the house. Ive lost my shirt before…but thats a different kind of loss! lol

    GO BRONCOS 2K10!!!!!!!!!!

  34. baylinorcrush says:

sndvl, point was, IN THE END, no matter how many times you win when you gamble in the end you always end up losing, the house or the bookies always win (I’m referring to the end of your gambling life, not the end of a day or of a season even, we can all get lucky sometimes, but it eventually runs out and if you don’t know how to stop, you’re cooked, over and done).

  35. florio's_mom says:

    Tom Brandstater is gone……

  36. baylinorcrush says:

Where did you find that out?

  37. florio's_mom says:

    PFT

  38. baylinorcrush says:

I found the following on NBC Sports:

    Broncos release Tom Brandstater
Posted by Gregg Rosenthal on June 4, 2010 12:17 PM ET
Early this offseason, there was a short-lived school of thought in Denver that 2009 sixth-round pick Tom Brandstater had a shot to the Broncos’ quarterback of the future.

That school closed after the team acquired Brady Quinn and Tim Tebow, then was knocked down Friday when the Broncos released Brandstater, according to multiple reports in Denver.

It’s still a surprising move. By dumping Brandstater now, Josh McDaniels announces that he has no hope the player can help him, even as a practice squad candidate.

  39. 1nOnlyTRB says:

Yea florio just read. Best of luck to Brandstater. He wasn’t the forerunner but I thought he had alot of potential. Apparently he couldn’t cut it. there are alot of belichecks out there, Im sure someone will pick him up.

And then there were 3. Now more than ever, Orton won’t be traded, and definitely looks like the starter (We always knew he was in the forefront). Orton without Marshall may be worse than cutler in chicago without Marshall. I liike the new talent at WR but Lord Help Us all. Go Broncos Twenty-Ten. TRB out.

  40. baylinorcrush says:

So much for the getting something out of trading Orton theory, LOL. I guess only question left is will it be Orton or Quinn starting, Tebow will definitely be on the outside looking in on that race, for the beginning of the season anyway. I did keep telling everybody here that McD had been very disappointed in Brandstater in his scout team performance last year, turns out the writing was on the wall for him all along, the 2009 draft is looking worse as we go, except for Bruton and McBath. Just my opinion.

  41. florio's_mom says:

Agreed bay. Did not like the 09 draft whatsoever. The bad part is the two good player you listed won’t see much playing time this year. Lol

  42. baylinorcrush says:

I know, McD said they were not well prepared for last year draft since they were all new coaches and it SHOWS!!! No excuses for this year crop though, they need better results if they want any credibility as to being good at evaluating college talent, so far they can evaluate free agency talent, but it’s a heck of a lot easier to do since they have proven themselves in the NFL. The jury is still out on McD as far as drafting skills. Just my opinion.

  43. florio's_mom says:

Shanny may have struggled defensive wise, but man did he draft some ballers on offense!
