A day removed from enjoying plates full of good food, the Broncos got back to practice this morning. They enjoyed another early practice starting at 10:20 am as they wrapped up their preparation for the Jets.
And since we leave early for the long plane ride across the country tomorrow, the early schedule had all the players smiling.
WE KNOW WHERE WE STAND
A lot can be said about players focusing on only the game at hand and never looking down the road, and everyone in the Broncos locker room would agree with that.
At the same time, given the close race for the AFC West title, you can bet that the Broncos have a good feel for how the final stretch of the season is playing out.
“As a player you always tell yourself, ‘Let’s take it one week at a time,’ but I know we’re 6-5, San Diego’s 4-7, and in the AFC West whoever wins the division is going to be in the playoffs,” Ebenezer Ekuban said. “The way it’s looking right now, there’s going to be no wild card for second place. You recognize it, but does it take over your mind totally? No, it doesn’t. Our priority is still focusing on the next play and the next game.”
And in this next game against the Jets, Ekuban sees a pair of running backs in Thomas Jones and Leon Washington that look similar to the 1-2 punch in San Diego.
“They’re very comparable to Tomlinson and Sproles back there,” Ekuban said. “You have your north and south guy in Jones and your cutback, energy guy in Washington. It’s going to be a tough matchup.”
ALMOST HELMET-FLYING TIME?
There’s a chance Broncos fans might get to see the flowing dreadlocks and flying helmet of Nate Webster on Sunday.
He hasn’t played since injuring his knee against Miami, but he has been back on the field practicing. Today, he says he participated fully.
“They kept me in all the drills and I participated in everything, so I’m back,” Webster said.
But that doesn’t necessarily mean he’s absolutely going to play this weekend against the Jets.
“I feel good. I feel ready to go. It’s definitely a good feeling,” Webster said. “But it’s up to Coach right now. So I’m looking forward to Coach’s game-time decision this weekend. Most definitely, for sure I’ll be back next week.”
INJURY UPDATE
The Broncos and Jets have released their official injury report for Friday.
The Broncos have listed Champ Bailey, Eddie Royal, Nate Webster and Selvin Young as questionable. Marlon McCree remains out.
For the Jets, the only two players listed as questionable are LB David Harris and S Eric Smith.

It would be HUGE, and I mean HUGE to get Nate and Champ back this game, and I sure hope Eddie can go, we’re gonna need some offence to keep up with the jets. Good luck boys!
We need Bailey. Bly has been playing great with less opportunities. Once Bailey is back he will get the ball throw his way all game. Our D-Line is improving. They need to stop the run and get an early lead.A desperate Favre will throw a couple gifts to the secondary. I haven’t given up on the Broncos and never will, the Raider loss still makes me sick. Lest get those Jets and Let’s go Falcons, a 3 game lead with 4 remaining would be beautiful.
No doubt about it we really need Champ back but again if there is any question about him being 100% then I’d rather have him sit out one more game and be ready for much bigger games we might have. But this game against the Jets is a huge game for us b/c we’re facing a really really good team on Sunday. We need the best of what we got to even be a close match up to the Jets but there’s absolutely no reason at all why our young guya can’t step up to the plate and make something happen for us. There’s no reason why we can’t win this game whether we have Champ or not. It would help alot if he played but it doesn’t mean we can’t win without him.
I’m ready for this game… last Sunday is gone, done and over with, let’s move on and forget about it. This game coming up is what the players need to focus on and pretend that last Sunday’s game never happened. They can’t let that reside in their minds during this game.
Have faith Broncos Country…
GO BRONCOS!!!!!!
We need to get champ back, but not to soon so he doesn’t get reinjured. Please leave Webster on the sidelines, Larsen is playing better than Nate has, the helmet may fly off when he hits but the misses and lack of gap control along with poor sideline to sideline pursuits kills the Broncos.
Let’s GO Broncos!!!! Let’s edge into that Playoff bracket. The Playoffs don’t care about records!!! GOOOOOOO BRONCOOOOOOOOS!!!!!!!
If the O Coaches would have enough faith in the running game and stick to it, I think Hillis and Bell could have a good day and help the D allot. Ya I’m going to say it again. TIME OF POSSESSION is the key to helping the D get through this game. PLEASE CALL A BALLANCED ATTACK AND RUN THE BALL ON FIRST DOWN. If the O Coaches have the faith they need in the running game and dont panic the Broncos have a chance. 90% of the 3&outs begin with an incomplete first down pass. I’m not saying never pass on first down just dont call so many first down pass plays. I dont mind if they only get 1 or 2yrds. but you’ve got to do it to make the linebackers and safeties respect it. Then you can beat them with the pass.
The Broncos do this they WIN!
GO BRONCOS! ! !
Jets defense ranked 3rd in the league against the run. They will try to stop us with their front seven. Their secondary is vulnerable so it looks like it will be up to Cutler and Co. to shred the defense thru the air. On offense they will try to expose our run defense which I hope shows up this weekend. We need to bring our A game. This game will be a defining moment for our Team this year… (playoff caliber).
GO BRONCOS !!!!!!!
Do is DJ Williams good to go, i did not see him on that injury report. I hope webster plays. Last week the team played with no heart at all. Webster always plays with tons of heart.
Elway – There are plenty of reasons we will not win this game against the Jets. Just look at last weeks game, that game was ours to lose and we did a good job of handing the win over. The Raiders have a resonable D but hell we killed these guys in round 1 and EVERYONE knows last Sunday should not have been any different.
I feel the team has the on field personell to come away with a win but they need to play better, they need to have a true desire to win and win big. Like Belichick always says to his team “DO YOUR JOB!” if you worry about nothing else and concentrate on what your suppose to do then the machine will work as it is suppose to do.
Monodono – I agree, a balanced O is required here. Cutler to Marshall is all too predictable. Running the ball WELL will set up that passing game… and Cutler doesn’t need to throw it 90 yds in one hit.. take what your given and no more. Hillis needs to get the ball more often, we have Bell and Pope on the bench ready to help out in carrying the load.
It will be Monday midday here when the boys play so I’ll be keeping a keen eye on the progress… ALL THE BEST LADS!!!
we all know this game is going to be a shoot out, but i agree establishing a running game will be key, our offense is so much better when we can run the play action pass when cutler can fake the stretch and roll out. But still i think to beat the jets we’re going to have to pass about 65% of the time
I think we should allow Spencer Larsen to start At MLB from Now on. Dont get me wrong Webster is very good, but Larsen and Woodyard have really sparked that defense and those two have pushed Winborns play to a new level.
Plaxico Buress accidently shot Himself!!! The giants just suffered a huge loss. Looks like its Domenik Hixons time to Shine!!!

we need to run the ball more i agree but lets face the truth the only way we even win this game is if cutler continue to spread the ball to ALL his recievers,te,and rbs instead of dropping back and looking for marshall, maybe mix in a couple screens[i dont want to give the wrong impression i do believe that cutler is the future unlike some of you on here]then and only then can we hope to maybe get just enough rushing yards to open up the play action part of our game……lets go broncos get the W
we need to hold onto the ball this weekend. no stupid turnovers. You know that Favre is going to turn a couple our way. Our D has to be on. Look for those short passes and screens that Brett is constantly going for. Know that there is a safety over the top and cover the flats. Its time the boys man up and start getting that momentum up for the playoffs. A nice four game streak would be nice to have going in. Everyone’s confidence needs a boost. I think that the injuries that we have had on D has brought out some talent in others. I would like to see Champ back even Williams, but I think we should leave Larsen in there. He seems to be proving himself
im sick of hearing one more game champ one more game. F that we needed him last week he has been ready to go for 3 lets get our best player out there. when champ is on the field he shuts down his half, he can be covering the number one on that side so they try to throw to the slot but he breaks off the number one and swats the ball down. We needed him last week we definatly need him this week get his ass out there
royalbroncofan1 your right the Jets are ranked 3rd. in the league in rushing D which is exactly why the Broncos need to run the ball on first down. Like I said I dont care if they only get 1 or 2yrds., hell I dont care if they lose a yrd. as long as they make the linebackers and safeties respect the fact they will run, Then and only then will Cutler pick on the Jets back field. Jay, please sell that fake and hit your TE in the red zone. THAT’S WHY YOU RUN THE BALL! To control the clock and sell the key plays in the red zone. If the O Coaches call shotgun on the 15 yard line after running the ball well one more time I will call for thier heads. Run the ball to set up the pass, and control the clock. Sell those key play action plays in the red zone.
If the TEAM calls a ballanced game and executes well they will be VICTORIOUS! ! !
GO BRONCOS! ! !
P.S. WOW! baileythebronco that was harsh.
o well people cant say we lose before we do any team can win anyday we saw that last week
woodyard was said to be too small, thats why he wasnt drated he is the same and hieght and 12 pounds less then dj i he is anything like him ill be happy. as good as he looks he can start left side when he comes back
NO NOT NATE…. PUT WOODYARD AT MLB OR LEAVE LARSEND THERE
Does anyone else think that we are going to switch to a 3-4 next season. We have so many great LBs now and not a whole lot of good D-Lineman. Im thinking Larson and Williams in the middle and Bailey and Woodyard on the outside with Jarvis moss and Jamie Winborn as primary backups. Then we could have Ekuban, Thomas and Robertson as linemen. The odd men out would be dumervil and Webster. I think we could get a really good trade for them though… maybe a safety. I think that would be a great grooping of personel.
On Offense, it would be great to get Royal in there. Our offense tends to explode when we least expect it and they have gotten the last 2 jobs on the rode done. Royal also tends to give us good field position. With Bell and Hillis in there, we have our own extreeme version of the 1-2 punch. With Hillis as a much more powerful runner but not as fast ast Thomas Jones and possibly having Selvin Young back again. Although he isnt as much of a scat back as Washington… he can still get the job done. O yeah. We might have our firepower back. Ryan Clady for Pro Bowl!!!
BTW, someone in the locker room: Go tell Matt Prater that he doesnt have to strong leg everything…. just remember what Jason taught you and go out and do your job.
modono… agreed. We do need to establish our running game. A key factor will be whether C Casey Weigman will be able to contain Jets NT Kris Jenkins, who has been one of the main reasons they’re doing so well against the run. Jenkins is 360 lbs and usually draws a double team, which tends to free up other defenders to make the play. It will be interesting to see how our game plan unfolds.
GO BRONCOS!!!!!!!!!!
keep ekuban and trade dumervil lol and keep winborn and get rid of nate lol glad your not the coach
nate is a beast if you dont want him back you dont know anything about football and in a 3 4 it should be
doom thomas moss
williams webster larsen woodyard
bailey ( draft a ss and fs) bly
and i dont hate any members of this team so im not picky about this i like winborn and ekuban and crowder and roberstson and all i just like this group better but im not the coach either so what the hell do i know lol
TIME OF POSSESSION! ! !
Jazzyfrizzle: D.J. Williams was listed as doubtful for today’s game. My apologies for not listing that.
i pray every night before i go to bed that we never run a 3-4 defense again
Sad,… but FUNNY.
GO BRONCOS! ! !
well the reason i say that is the linebackers and D-line guys we have are not fit to play in a 3-4.. we dont have a big NT that you need, our DE arent guys who can contain their gaps as good as they will need to be, DJ plays the best when he can read and react in space and get to a spot
Our defense is better than it was last year.. barely, but they have had 3 different D-cooridinaters in 3 years, even though i’ll be the first to say i think Slowik is doing a terrible job, let them get comfortable in a system so they can play instinctively
i completly agree with lynch4prez and ive said it b4[i think ted cetrell or romeo crennell are either looking or will be looking 4 a job next year]
