The Broncos Have Been Flexed

November 17th, 2008 - 4:08pm by Adam Zinser

It’s a phrase that NFL team employees might use later in the season — “We’ve been flexed.”

And now everyone at Dove Valley can say it.

As part of the NFL’s flex scheduling system, the Broncos’ Week 13 contest against the New York Jets at the Meadowlands has been moved back to one of the late afternoon slots.

Instead of kickoff taking place at 1:00 p.m. EST, it will now take place at 4:15 p.m. EST.

The game will still be broadcast on CBS as originally scheduled — only the time changes.

The NFL utilizes “flexible scheduling” on Sundays in Weeks 11-17. It’s designed to ensure quality matchups in all NFL Sunday time slots in those weeks and give teams a chance to play their way onto primetime and into the late-afternoon 4:15 PM ET time slot on CBS and FOX.

So adjust your calendars Broncos Country, the orange and blue will now play at a later time with an even bigger T.V. audience.

That’s fine. But will someone remind Dre Bly who is playing QB for the Jets?

If he could try to NOT get burned so bad this year, that’d be great.

  2. ddk broncos fan says:

THATS GREAT NEWS IF YOU GUYS RECALL THE JETS LOST TO THE RAIDERS LOL AND WE 41-14 THE RAISERS WITH NO BMARSH SO IT WILL BE NICE TO SEE A 34-7 WIN OR EVEN BETTER IM GLAD EVERYONE WILL GET TO WATCH THE ASS WHOOPIN THATS COMMING TO NEW YORK OUT SEASON STARTS IN NOVEMBER AND ITS ALREADY STATED LETS MAKE IT 6 STRAIGHT INTO THE PLAYOFFS AND SHOW TENNESSEE HOW A REAL GOOD OFFENCE SHOULD PLAY. BY THEN WE WILL HAVE CHAMP DJ AND MCCREE BACK SO IT SHOULD BE VERY INTERESTING.

  3. dtmac3 says:

Very nice… I will actually be able to watch the whole game rather than seeing highlights on TV and watching the gamecast on NFL.com because I am on the east coast. I am looking forward to it.

  4. bronc fan in WA says:

Hey Jack_A**, sorry i meant Jack_Fan…. Why don’t you realize that Bly has been playing well these past few weeks. He has taken on the role of shutting down the top recievers of other teams and has done a good job. Should i remind you that he caused a game changing fumble in Cleveland and had an important interception in ATL yesterday? Get your head out of the gutter buddy

  5. wormyblackburny says:

SWEET!. This means our players bodies and minds will be playing at the normal time instead of 10am Denver time. The time difference usually KILLS west coast teams, this will even the playing field a little.

  6. lynch4prez says:

yeah, Bly has been playing as good as we can ask for in Champ absense, get off his back.. hes been easily the best in the secondary, and arguable best on defence in the last 2 weeks

  7. skidog says:

its nice to see the broncos turn it around. i almost dont want to see some of these rookies fade away when everybody gets healthy. for once, we are all on the same page and these rookies are making a name for themselves. i love it.

  8. 07elway says:

Oh my word, people what is up with some of you underestimating Bly even after what he did yesterday!!! Don’t you guys get the picture?? He is always going to get more attention and more passes thrown his way from the other QB because they know what Champ can and will do. And apparently he’s never going to earn the trust of some of you.

GIVE THE GUY A BREAK!!!!!!!!!! What on earth did he ever do to you for you guys to relentlessly say such stupid things about him?? He’s not perfect you know, he will never be perfect BUT neither will you trash talking “fans”. Just shut it already with Bly. I’d be willing to bet a million bucks not one of you could go a whole week without saying one negative thing about Bly on here. Looks like I’ve already won that bet because some people just can’t give him credit for the GOOD things he’s done. Can’t you just sit back and enjoy this win and not go after Bly for once? For once, that’s all I’m asking. If you’re going to talk about him, say something good for once – you know he did get an INT for us. Apparently some of you missed that part of the game!

You people have got to let it go and move on MAN!!!! There are worse corners in the league.

    GO BRONCOS!!!

  9. Jack_Fan says:

    Attention:

Get off Bly’s back? The man is paid millions to play well. But I shouldn’t be able to say anything negative about the guy??? Give ME a break!

Yes, he caused a fumble against Cleveland. And yes he was fortunate enought to be the guy close enough to pick off the horrible throw by Matt Ryan (not hard).

And if you didn’t forget, Roddy White burnt him for a 40 yard catch and what should have been a game winner in the 4th had he not dropped it.

I have routinely seen Bly play horribly since last year. He has taken horrible angles to tackle. Made horrible attempts to takle runners. And has let multiple wide receivers make a fool of him.

Just because the guy finally does something right, doesn’t mean he’s off my hook.

But, if he keeps improving and makes plays, I’ll be the 1st to say he did a good job!

  10. bonzotodd says:

FYI, Jack, it wasn’t bly that got burned. Marquand Manuel. if you point to one player who’s won these last two games, it’s Bly. Braylon Edwards, 1 catch for 17 yards? Comon, even with the dropsies, he didn’t get thrown to. Bly has turned it around in Denver. Keep it up Dre

  11. Professor Broncs says:

I have to agree with 07 ELWAY.
Bly’s biggest problem is that he’s lost a step or two in speed just like many of the greats do when they are in there 30′s but his technique and skills are pretty sound. He’s not CHAMP but if you give him a decent saftey over the top he can be very effective just like when he shut down Braylon Edwards and besides that one pass to Roddy White where he timed it wrong he did a good job against him. Our Safteys deserve the weekly bashing that you guys like to do so much but DRE is alright at his respective position.

  12. bronc fan in WA says:

It’s amazing how retarded you really are Jack_Fan

I watched the whole game yesterday, and as I recall, our safety manuel was the one that almost got beat on that deep throw in the endzone when White dropped the TD. And any INT in the NFL is hard. Bly had to be there and time it right to get that INT, even if it was a bad throw.

Also, I recall Bly shutting down Braylon Edwards to like 9 yards in the game in Cleveland.

The reason most of you bash Bly is because he doesn’t live up to the superior talent that Champ Bailey has over THE WHOLE LEAGUE!

Trust me, im not doing this just to pick fights, im saying this because i know Bly is a good corner and has played well.

  13. Broncogram65 says:

Leave Dre Bly alone, he is an awesome player and may I remind you, he is a “BRONCO”?

  14. b4life says:

It wasn’t dre’s fault that pass was almost complete to white it was cover two and Marquan Manual did not get on top in time to break that pass up if anything Denver should give another talented rookie (barrett) a chance see what he can do because Denver safties are terrible right now.

  15. Cutlerizer says:

For the record: Bly and Champ both got burned for long td passes vs. Favre and the Packers last year on Monday night.

That’s just Brett Favre. At certain times, the man can beat up on even the best of CBs. For the record, Bly is playing great this year. Our lack of pass rush earlier in the season has left us without interceptions. However, there has been marked improvement the past three games. Once Champ gets his groin back, things are going to get interesting. I have an idea that Brett is going to wish he were a year younger on Sunday night!

The ol’ reflexes aint quite what they used to be…
…But let’s not get carried away. First things first. Let’s think of creative ways to humiliate further Al Davis and his Jokeland Raiders. Anyone?

  16. baileythebronco says:

jack fan you gotta realize everyone is against you because you are wrong. dre bly in his career is very impressive so shut up about what you dont know you clown. 2nd most interceptions in the league in the past decade. only second to who>? oh yeah champ bailey, kinda hard to be better then champ so shut the 0000 up jesus. you needs some stats on bly? he was a shut down corner the same as champ bailey. and forget about barrett anyone who watched the game and saw number 43 roderick rodgers needs to get on his band wagon right now, what a hard hitter this guy is. hes from wisconsin he’s good i like him ten times more then barrett and obviously shanny does too or itd be the other way around. i have a lot i could say but i get tired of typing and dont see the point in having to defend a player as good as dre bly every week he was the best corner on the field hands down the since champ has been out(for either team). so listen to elway07

  17. baileythebronco says:

BLY ALLOWED TWO CATCHES TO EDWARDS THE 40 YEARD ONE THAT PAYMAH SAVED THE TOUCHDOWN ON WAS ONLY BECAUSE HE READ THE PASS AND TRIED TO JUMP THE ROUTE HE WAS A HALF SECOND SLOW. THE OTHER HE HAD GOOD COVERAGE IT WAS A GOOD CATCH MADE BY A PRO BOWL WIDE RECIEVER. i should quit reading i didnt see jacks second comment i mean get real there are like 8 other people here saying your a jackass. i m making a list of “fake bronco fans” here it is so far
    1. raider hater he is a complete idiot knows nothing about football
    2. jack fan you worked your way up the dumbass ladder congrats
    3. icarcus or something like that always predictiong the broncos to lose always being a pessimistic jackass the list will grow with all these fake fans commenting on here we need more people like elway07 and b4life and broncogram bronc fan makes a good point as well proffesor bronco as well keep it up guys go broncos baby you guys are awesome i like what i see

  18. royalbroncofan1 says:

07elway – there is only one blogger here that’s dogging Dre’ Bly so try not to throw the the rest of us under the bus with the plural form of “guys”….thx.  Changing gears here, I do agree with you !! Right now Bly is the only DB with plenty of experience and he is providing sound leadership as he’s leading by example for the younger guys.  We all know that he has been picked on by the other Teams as playing opposite Champ Bailey is tough. Bly is a veteran and probably one of the few vets besides Stokely that has a Super Bowl ring. Bly has stepped up !!Take out the Faiders — GO BRONCOS!!!!!!!

  19. 07elway says:

royalbroncofan1 – I’m saying “guys” because I know (and there is proof on older blogs) that more than one person has been going after Bly. Only one person I’ve noticed so far has said anything negative about Bly. I wasn’t trying to pick a fight or anything but I know there are other Bly-doubters so that’s why I said that. I’m not trying to categorize anyone that hasn’t said anything negative about Bly when I refer to more than one person.

And its good to know we agree… sorry I made you feel like you were one of the Bly nay-sayers. Eventually, others that disagree with us to some degree will come on here (most likely on another blog) and talk their trash. Again, sorry for the misunderstanding.

    GO BRONCOS!!!!!!!

    Here’s some food for thought…
1.Champ got hurt and is out for XXX amount of time.

  21. 57Yellow T-Bird says:

    2. The starting LB unit is decimated with injuries, as well.
    3. A bunch of very talented rookies are put in to take up the slack of the various injured players
    4. The rookies not only pick up the slack, but they shine admirably, because they’re HUNGRY!
    5. Bly sees these hungry young pups and gets excited himself, thereby raising his game to another level.
    6. Everyone raises the level of their game and the whole team benefits because of it.

…..just a little food for thought.

    GO BRONCOS!!!

  22. Broncomania56 says:

I for one have been down on this Bronco team with the losses they were piling up. I was a harsh critic of the defense and offense as well. If anyone challenges my loyalty to this team, I would love to invite you over to my house to view my Bronco Shrine. The Win over Atlanta was an awesome TEAM win. With the adversity the Broncos are playing against, the injuries, I was super impressed with the way the TEAM responded yesterday.

I was extremely pleased with the effort on both sides of the ball. The defense is as aggressive as I’ve seen in years. Truly it started in Cleveland. I will admit there were some mistakes made by this young defense, but something I did notice is there is some depth on this defense with Heart!!!! Although 4 starters on defense were out, the young guys are playing with emotion and speed. They never gave up. They were in a fight, one that the critics said couldn’t be won and they stood up and punched the bully in the nose and won the fight. The reason I was down about this team at first is I did not see this sort of effort in the beginning of the season as I’ve seen the last two games. I can live with mistakes, it’s lack of effort I will not live with.

The Broncos D actually made me feel good for a day. The offense too. I am stoked about getting Bailey back. I almost think he should take one more week off, so that he can return against the JETS. But I would love to see him back in action sooner than later. Just wishing him the best and hoping for no set backs. Groin injuries are a mother to come back from.

  23. Broncomania56 says:

    Well Said T-Bird. :)

  24. BradJamesBroncoFan says:

We’ll make the bad Brett come out of the woodwork against the Jets! First things first, though, let’s crush the Raiders! Hopefully, the next week we get to play in primetime!

Please dont kill me gentleman but I have one complaint. If I am coach, the ROY, Eddie Royal, does not field my kickoffs. I dont think its smart. YES, I ADMIT, it has been working, but give it to someother player. Too risky for a starter! Just my .02!

  28. 07elway says:

Thanks royalbroncofan1 – glad someone reads my novels!! ;)

And delux304 – I’m on the fence about what you said. I mean Royal is just way too good to not be fielding our kickoffs but like you said it is risky with him being a starter now. But its also risky when we can’t get good field positioin – I mean seriously, think about it – we haven’t had good kickoff returns in how long??? Or at least not as consistently as Royal has done it for us. I don’t like the idea of another player taking that on b/c Royal has done WAY too good of a job to put someone else there. I say if its okay with him – fine by me!! And plus if Shanny didn’t think he could or should take on being our returner and play on offense then he wouldn’t let him do it. I’ve said this once before and I’m saying it again:
Shanahan KNOWS what he’s doing – that’s why he’s the Head Coach and not us. Give him some credit for taking some risks that have proven to be worth it in the end. Again, you got a good point delux304 but he’s obviously fine handling both responsibilities and he’s extremely good at it. Someday here real soon, that boy is going to go ALL THE WAY!!! and get us a touchdown. Let him do what we all know he’s good at – running that ball like a mad man.

Keep it up Royal, Shanny – the whole TEAM!!!
    GO BRONCOS!!!!!!

Hope Peyton & Pope are ok this week. I read they were a little banged up.
