Tebow Exemplifies ‘Never Say Never’

January 10th, 2011 - 3:29pm by Gabe Hiatt

Tim Tebow’s performance in his second start as a pro has earned him even more attention.

Tebow won the awards for Pepsi Rookie of the Week and GMC Never Say Never Moment of the Week in Week 16 after leading the Broncos to a one-point win against the Texans.

Now that performance has earned him a place in the running for GMC Never Say Never Moment of the Year.

Denver trailed 17-0 at halftime, but Tebow accounted for two touchdowns in the fourth quarter to help lead his team to 24-23 victory. The quarterback completed 16-of-29 passes for 308 yards with one touchdown and one interception — good for a passer rating of 89.4 — and had 10 carries for 27 yards and one rushing TD.

He threw for the most yards by a Broncos rookie quarterback since John Elway passed for 345 yards against the Baltimore Colts in 1983. Frank Tripucka is the only other quarterback in franchise history to bring the Broncos back from that large of a halftime deficit (he did it twice — in 1960 and ’62).

Tebow’s 308 passing yards also tied for the most by a rookie signal-caller this season.

You can vote for Tebow here.

Well, I for being as open and consistent in expressing my desire for an offensive first approach to football will not react to any result in the selection for our new HC as an i told you so. I wont hope that we fail so I or some sports analyst talking points that I regurgitate on a daily basis and take as my own, proves to be accurate.

In no matter what fashion, a return to a winning tradition in Denver while being under the command of offensive minded coaches, just may need to be lead by a defensive one. I am fine with that. John Fox is the new HC and that makes him my new favorite coach in the NFL, while he is under contract he is the HC of my favorite team. I want success for him come hell or high water, the I told you so’s don’t help me sleep at night when we are 4-12

    The latest info from Legwold:

Broncos offensive coordinator Mike McCoy is expected to to remain with the team, but the playbook will likely get a makeover. Whereas former Broncos coach Josh McDaniels preferred a three wide receiver look as the team’s base formation, Fox routinely has fielded teams with more of a power look that would cocoon a young quarterback who needs to improve his play from the pocket.

In the three years Fox led the Panthers to at least 11 victories, the team finished in the top seven in rushing twice and was in the top 10 in rushing attempts in all three of those years. In the four seasons the team finished with seven or fewer victories the Panthers did not run the ball more than 47 percent of their offensive snaps in any year.

As Elway has put it: “What I see is (Tebow is) very raw when it comes down to drops, he’s very raw when it comes down to anticipation. He’s very raw when it comes down to anticipating throws. Those are the things that he has to get a lot better at. He’s got the intangibles. He’s going to make the plays that you can’t coach. But he’s got to be able to, for us to win a championship, he’s got to win it from within the pocket.”

It’s funny, it’s kind of heading to pretty much what I was talking about in my previous post, perfect timing Jeff.

Funny Bay after I posted that I immediately thought, “That’s exactly what I thought about McDaniels.” But hey this time we have our weaknesses and an experienced guy who seems tailor made to address the two biggest: the run and the D. And with an improved Tebow at the helm who is already known for his ability to extend plays and to take off with the ball I don’t think the offense is going to be entirely devoid of flash. As many have already pointed out the best QB Fox had to work with was Delohme. I know our hero Tim isn’t proven yet but it’s hard not to feel like we have a franchise QB on our hands – and that might have been the key ingredient that kept Fox from having a championship ring on his finger. And yes is will be different. That’s the one thing we do know. And different is more likely to be better than worse in this scenario.

Unfortunately we would of wasted a lot less time if some folks in high places had listened to some of the I told you so earlier. But I see where you’re coming from, you have nothing to I told you so about since you bought McD hook, line ans sinker, but some of us did not and actually have some I told you so material of importance to share… I respect that you don’t like it, but it does help me building up my credibility so I keep on going my way, you go yours and we are both Bronco fans, so it should be all cool.

    @bay
My last post appeared more pointed at you than was intended. It does not fit my approach to life in general. Murphy’s law, etc. I refuse to hope for failure at anything only to be able to say I told you so, type of thing. if I am wrong about anything and it turns out for the better regardless, so be it.

And yes I bought into McDaniels philosophy and still do. It just did not work in Denver, but he is still young and plenty capable of turning his dismal yet very short tenured HC resume into great and prosperous things. He came in with a vision and threw away the “conventional” approach. If HC’s are judged based on only 2 years of time, no one other than maybe Lombardi or Schula would be considered successful.

  6. baylinorcrush says:

Yeah, if we kept him we would be on our way to having one of the most complete football practices video collection on record, haha. Just having fun with that is all I can do now… The past is behind us and the present is the John and John show, here are the Jooohhhnnnnyyyyys!

  7. Broncos Born & Raised says:

Lombardi, Schula and Fox haha. He had his team in the Super Bowl in 2 years. And he is the only other coach besides Lombardi to inherit a 1-15 team and and go to the Super Bowl 2 years later. But I’m just playin with you Steve. My stance is I’m glad McDaniels is gone because he wasn’t going to work out anytime soon in Denver, but I do believe he will find a lot of success as a HC down the line. He has a great football mind and I loved that he wasn’t afraid to do things because they weren’t “conventional.” What I don’t love was the scandal, always ending up on the wrong end of trades, and the way his presence polarized the fans. As you can atest, that last part is still lingering.

You guys seen the 1 on 1 with John Fox yet? It’s just a tidbit but I’ll take what I can get until noon tomorrow. And apparently he still loves Tebow and went as far as to say he’s looking forward to working with him.

    Feeling better baylin? Lol

Why is McDaniels name still being mentioned? He’s history. I could care less if he has the potential to be successful. He was not here. I will further add, he was unsuccessful and that IS an understatement. He has too many flaws to ever be successful. You can paint spots on a cat and call it a leopard, it’s still a cat.

Fox is definitely a fresh breath of thin air. While it’s not an “attractive” hire or the most popular choice, he does bring the experience. The no nonsense attitude and players generally enjoyed playing for him. I can’t ever recall a story of his players quitting on him or berating players on the sideline or splitting the fan base into sects like you see in high school. That and the fact he’s a D minded person. So nice!
DC, OC, the rest of the staff and then the draft! TRB, Bowers Island may be the best place no ones ever heard of!

stevecan2, McD did alot wrong…he was young and headstrong. he also would not put up with self-centered players, so he traded them. But you know pat bowlen had to sign off on all the trades also. But he did leave us with a young and improved o-line in Beadles and Walton being added. and the WR we have are the best. Lloyd improved vastly. Gaffney improved. Royal was back and ALL of them cought over 59 catches. and the new young WRs IMHO are going to be the best there is in a year or two. D Thomas, Royal, and Decker. I am not a Moreno fan as a full time back. Cox and Vaughn should replace our CB soon and still be good. Ayers showed he could play with the big boys. and I’ll keep Colquitt as our punter. McD did alot wrong but he did a lot right that the bronco fans will never admit, like #2 #35 #47 and #66 in the draft AND I WILL ALWAYS THANK HIM FOR EVERY GAME TIM TEBOW WINS.

    Food for thought.

McDaniels name is only mentioned in retaliation.

  13. ghostman says:

i think tebow is a great player and he is an experienced played and a key part to the denver broncos offense and orton if he can get better for next year we should have a great offense with john fox as the head coach

  14. ghostman says:

i cant believe even after todd hailey blew josh micdaniels off after the game aginst the cheifs the cheifs have mcdaniels as offensive corddinator that just amazes me!!!

  15. baylinorcrush says:
